A hidden gem in the Washington DC Art Scene. We were invited there for a corporate dinner presentation, but it gave us a chance to see a variety of great art work from modern masters to classic artists. Thrilled to see the work of living local Washington DC Artist Betsy Stewart in their permanant display. This used to be open only by appointment to private groups, it is now a public museum.

The Kreeger is an architectural gem designed by Philip Johnson that contains art from such artists as Degas, Picasso, and Kandinsky as well as more recent artists works. The home is lovely, as well as inviting with an outdoor sculpture garden. It is uniquely set in a neighborhood of single-family homes. If it didnt have a sign one would think it to be just another house in that neighborhood.

A hidden gem in DC. This is a very nice art museum. The layout is great. It features sculptures indoor and out door. It has a ton of nice art paintings. One of my favorite things about this museum is the outside area, it has a path you can walk through that is a shaded and features very cool sculptures. It also has a really cool fountain where sometimes there is live music playing. This is for sure a low key place with not a lot of parking. They also change the art out having different themes every few months.

Wow. Simply wow. This was a personal collection so you will not care for all of it. But to be so close to so many masterpieces, so very approachable and intimate. Picasso. Cezanne. Monet. So many. Wow.

It is hard to imagine anyone lived in this temple of art with its marble walls and floors. Our guide explained architect, Philip Johnson had stopped designing private homes but offered to build them a museum instead. It was outfitted with lighting and other features which made the transition from residence to museum an easy one.Our guide was amazing, genuinely the very best museum guide either my husband or I ever encountered. She was well informed, engaging, and provided a balance of art history, interpretive commentary, and some tidbits of trivia. The outdoor sculpture garden had a few very good pieces in it. This feature seems new with freshly created paths. If they continue to work on it, it will be a valuable edition to what is already an excellent museum.

Secret gem in a city of museums. This collection featuring rooms full of paintings and sculpture by Monet, Picasso, Kandinsky, Miro, VanGogh, Renoir, Gorky, Hoffmann, and Frankenthaller and Gene Davis just to name a few. Intimately set in what was once the home of the collectors, the Philip Johnson designed architecture is unparalleled in its ability to house and display fine art.

Small but quality museum housed in a magnificent home with a great court yard. Has all the important 20th century artists from Picasso, Braque, Manet to current contemporary artist like Larry Poons. Its a narrated tour. The lady who was giving the tour knows the basics but offered a lot of her own opinions. No fee assessed and there is parking on the premise. This is a good museum to visit once you have been to all the public ones near Smithsonian or if you just want to spend only a short time with your guests ie. The in-laws.

On Thursday, December 19th, the Kreeger sponsored an evening with Heifitz International musicians. All were young and amazingly talented. It was a memorable evening in a beautiful setting. The Kreeger Museum and Sculpture Garden has many beautiful representations of 19th century to modern day art. If you live in or around DC, you must go if you have never been. You wont be disappointed.

When the museums along the National Mall are for tourists, the museums off the National Mall are for the locals. The Kreeger Museum is a small, art gallery in NW DC between the neighborhoods of Foxhall Village and Glover Park. If you are driving or biking by the museum, it would be easy to mistake it for just another NW mansion, but its more than that. Its the former home of David Lloyd Kreeger and his wife, Cameron. Professionally, David ran GEICO for years. Personally, he collected art and invested in developing the next generation of artists. His home now showcases his art collection in 4-5 rooms. However, the real gem is in the outdoor courtyard. Its beautifully designed and when the sunsets the light bounces off its design. Theres a fountain too making it a dream location for a DC event. Around the corner from the courtyard is a sculpture garden that is not to be missed. If youre a DC local, its a must-do. Theres a suggested donation of $10 to get in and I recommend paying it to support the museum. They also have a history room when you enter with two restrooms and a coat closet.

This is a very small art museum in a gorgeous building. The collection is beautiful, but the the outdoor sculptures and building architecture are what make the museum impressive. If you want more detailed information about the pieces, you have to attend a tour. There is extremely limited parking, so I would recommend going early and during the week.

An absolutely transcendental art experience where less is so very much more. An eclectic and delightful collection of art spanning centuries, cultures, countries and styles, not to mention artists, all in an approachable, rambling, beautiful mid century home and setting where the Kreegers lived And entertained in the heyday of the latter years of the 20th century. A wonderful and engaging treat.

Before yesterday i knew nothing at all about the kreegers or their art collection. But this visit and the docent who took 12 of us through the collection were amazing. Six monet in one room. One glorious chagall, kaminsky and picasso and so many others. The building itself is a work of art designed by Philip Johnson and clad in gorgeous travertine. Our amazingly fine docent knew and communicated a great deal, but she also promoted discussion i give this visit five stars.

A 60s architectural residence in Washington DC, invisioned and built by the owners in order to host their art collection. The stark and massive travertine marble structure exteriors, providing large fenestration openings for natural light, together with carpeted and hardwood wall interiors perfectly exhibit original paintings by artists such as Picasso, Kandinsky, Monet, Miro...in harmony with landscaped gardens nestling sculptures by Henry Moore, Alexander Calder and other.A pleasant and peaceful surprise for those who like to contemplate a selected variety of impressionist, post impresionist, abstract, cubism and contemporary art among others. The tour guides are nice, knowledgable and friendly.

The Kreeger Museum seems like a hidden DC gem. I had never heard of it, but I went recently with an acquaintance, and I was pleasantly surprised by its impressive (albeit small) collection. They have a number of Picassos, Rodins, Monets, etc., so if you like the masters, you will enjoy yourself. I also enjoyed the really cool outdoor sculpture garden area. My least favorite was the temporary exhibition (The Lure of the Forest), but all in all, I would recommend checking this museum out..! Just keep in mind that its not that easily accessible by public transit, so go with a friend who has a car.
