CLOSED - Tried to visit in late November 2018. The entire building was empty with signs all over it saying it was for rent. Compared what I was looking at to several other photos to ensure I was at the right place. Reported to Google with multiple pictures of the empty building but they will not remove the listing. I did not see advertising for it while checking out every other museum in the city, so I dont think its been relocated within DC.

Its a pretty standard museum had a good time looking at some of the exhibits. Whats really interesting I learned some of the things I didnt really get a chance to talk too much of the staff or take a look at the rest of the facility however.

This place is really awesome. I’ve been back multiple times. It’s always interesting to read up on the deadliest murderers. They have several different tours guided and Unguided. The guided tour is simply just an audio device with headphones but it gives extra information that isn’t on the placards end it is nice. Always check their website first because they usually have some kind of deal if you buy your tickets online. If you serve in the National Guard you will get a discount.

I want to go to his place over here. Sadly, I heard that this placed closed in 2015. I heard that this museum has autos that belongs to killers, such as Ted Bundys Volkswagen that is displayed. There are also other belongings that belongs to killers as well. It will be fascinating to see only if the place is opened up again. I recommend this place if you are interested in true crime things but, I gave four stars due to its closing. I hope in the future it opens up gain for attractions.

I had visited this place shortly after it opened in 2008, and I must say, I am rather disappointed that this place no longer exists. Its a shame because this place certainly did have a lot to offer to visitors.

I had such a wonderful time at this Museum … I spent two days there and barely got through two thirds of it. It encompasses three huge subjects: crime, policing, and punishment. Of course, lots of major, famous crimes and historic figures are missing, but the nation has one huge, dark underbelly that would take several more buildings to house; so given the limited space and money, the Museum has done an incredible job – especially in making the exhibits interactive for younger people. If you are interested in the dark side of the human mind, don’t miss this Museum when you visit the nation’s Capital.

Its too bad this museum is currently in limbo -- while it does cost money, unlike a lot of other worthwhile museums in DC, the exhibits are top quality. I especially enjoyed learning about bank robbers and walking through an overview of crime and punishment since the middle ages. Just dont expect a critique of the police state or police brutality -- this is a pretty biased view of the criminal justice system.

It was just okay. I was disappointed that many of the artifacts were only replicas, movie props or illustrative. The real things are few and far between. The crime lab is uninteresting and they could put o better use the space devoted to counterfeit name brands. If you are nearby and have $33 to blow, its okay, but there are better options try the International Spy Museum!

Ive been to the National Museum of Crime & Punishment 10 times as I bring a group of students each semester. The museum is fun and informative, it walks you through the history of Crime and Punishment from the medieval ages until today, it highlights different eras of law enforcement like the mob era and the age of pirates. It is quite fun with interactive opportunities to undergo law enforcement training exercises and many please touch type exhibits. Definitely worth a trip once while you are visiting or living in DC.

I had a great time visiting the Museum of Crime and Punishment. There was so much information - every aspect of both crimes and punishments through history were displayed. Its a bit off the beaten path from the Smithsonian museums, but its well worth the walk to get there. There were some fun interactive areas that showed more about how criminals are treated - I especially liked having my finger print taken and watching my friend as she tried to break out of jail!We also participated in a one hour workshop in which an experienced crime scene investigator walked us through the steps of solving a crime. We analyzed crime scene photos, discussed the processes followed by police and investigators, and even examined some specimens (dead pigs) to see if we could figure out how they had been killed! It was really an interesting experience and the workshop leader was a great instructor with lots of information. This museum was really well presented with a variety of styles of displays. We spent about 3 hours going through and really could have spent more time. It was a great afternoon!

I loved the idea of the museum. But really really disappointed that box magazines are called clips . that tells me that little more research should be done by curators. Funny that apparently i was only person from visitors that knew that Ted Bundy car was owned by lead singer of Korn. Otherwise its a fun museum. There is a lot there to see. I didnt mind the price since i went to other museums that are free.

I went with my mother recently, and was pretty unremarkable except for one thing: there were innumerable errors in the museums information placards. I started counting, but lost track after 15 errors in the first set of exhibits. Grammar mistakes, punctuation errors, misspellings, and even several verbatim paragraphs printed one on top of the other. It was very distracting, and left the overall impression that the person(s) responsible for curating the museum were not very on top of their game. This in the face of a minimum charge of nearly $22 for adult admission made this a real disappointment. We left halfway through and didnt come back.

Im sad to read this museum will be closing this on September 30th. I enjoyed a visit with my brother while he was on break from school. We checked out most of the exhibits, learning from disturbing but engaging multimedia exhibits of notorious criminals. Great photo opps in some of those exhibits!

I love this place. I went with my thirteen year old brother and he loved it which made me proud and thankful.it has everything one would expect from a crime museum, however I just want to point out my favorite aspect which I feel like is overlooked. I love that the decor mkes you feel like like you are in a prison. At least thats what I felt. The museum is full of blank black bars and rails, with yellow lines in specific areas and that just got me engulfed in a criminal atmosphere which is just awesome. Will definitely come her again, as we werent able to see everything. My only complaint is that I feel it is a bit pricey.

I gave it three stars because there are so really cool items and information in there. However, there were several instances where we found information outdated- even tho they have signs that are updates on cases, it doesnt look like they have been updated in the last year- and it was a super long walk. It felt like the museum was never=ending. Also, with all the the info they gave you, maybe i missed it, but a lot of plaques didnt give you any background on who the people were or how they were connected- especially in the mobsters area. It was a bit disorganized.

Great experience. Rip off pricing. I took my wife there for their Valentines day event. The museum itself was very educational and had far more information than expected.Pros: Very well put together.Great place for families to learn about criminals and the prison system. Even covers some medieval era.Cons: No drinks. I dont mean adult drinks. There was not a water fountain, soda machine or bar on premise. Plan accordingly.Long walk. You will feel like you found a new kind of ikea. No end in site. By the time we got to the csi section we were thirsty and ready to leave. The Valentines day event is a scam. For $160 we got the everyday show plus a couple extra signs and fuzzy hand cuffs. The melting pot is cheaper and we get adult beverages. We will go again when our son is older but its at the bottom of the list compared with all the free sites.

We spent 7 hours in the museum on a saturday (we wanted to get our moneys worth and read everything!). We used groupons that cut the admission down from $22 to $12 apiece, and I would definitely recommend waiting for a discount! I would have felt disappointed had we paid the full entry fee. Dont get me wrong, though--we had a lot of fun!We paid an additional $8 apiece to participate in the crime lab downstairs. It was fun, though parts were surprisingly challenging compared to others given the time constraints (the alibis section). The instructors in the lab were great, and very knowledgeable. Older kids and teenagers might find it fun too.Throughout the museum, they had some interesting artifacts and reproductions, and they had two simulators that were pretty cool--supposedly the types of simulators police use for training.Unfortunately, what detracted from our impression of the museum were the grammatical errors, spelling errors, typos and random formatting errors throughout. We caught at least a dozen and Id bet there were plenty more we didnt even note. Its hard to believe in then credibility of a museum when they appear to have kept these obvious errors on display for a few years now.Overall, it was a fun museum visit. Its too bad they dont allow for multiple-day entry like they do at the Newseum because there was so much to see and read.
