WHAT A GREAT LITTLE MUSEUM!!! Husband & I took a drive and ended up here. We were immediately shown around and the curator was fantastic. We were the only people there at the time and got a very personalized experience with each room we visited. Donation based and we were happy to give the $8 fee to get in (actually just gave them $20 for two because why not?). A great place for anyone that wants a glimpse into a pastime (almost) long forgotten.
I could have spent hours in there before learning that they hide a little hot dog vendor on their display, then I wanted to spend more time there. Most of the Museum is hands off but they offer a room for children to play with a toy train display. It was hard to get my son out of there so we could enjoy the rest of the Museum.
This is by far one of the greatest model railroad museums I have ever visited. You can also buy products from them new or used for your own railroad. people who running or super friendly and super educational as far as railroads and model railroads are concerned.
Warm, friendly and educational atmosphere. Attention to detail is a absolutely incredible in both N & HO Scales; would take a number of visits to even catch even half of it. There is literally something for every model train enthusiast be it operator or collector. The staff are super knowledgeable and all hands-on enthusiasts as well. Wonderful place for kids of all ages that is an ongoing work of functional art.
This place is absolutely interesting.!
Interesting place. The man who created this museum was very informative.
A very impressive display of a classic hobby. The welcome center shows a variety of different trains, different sizes of them, and more. The muesem itself is stunning, even though it is currently unfinished. Donations of trains are taken, and you can even get yours fixed.Admission per person is $5.Your one and only complaint will be the lack of air conditioning. The owners are aware of this and have donation boxes set up around the building.
Dont bother going, if you dont have a mask. I will never return to this place or donate again. Drove almost 2 hours, no mention on the Facebook page that masks are required. That we could find only mention of childrens train room closed.
Hidden gem in Washington, MO. The hobbyists here put a LOT of time and effort in to the model train sets and scenery. There is so much intricate detail on everything. I swear everytime I come here there is something I didnt see before. Not only is this a model train museum but I will say it is an art museum of sorts. Great place for kids and adults to look around.
Great place for all your train accessories and train sets
Super awesome, groups get a great rate, the museum was still in progress but was very great detail, thank you for the wonderful morning.
Great place has some very nice and odd trains. Stop on by and enjoy the trains and the history or trains .
Plenty to see and knowledgeable volunteers. Thomas the Train room.
Super neat place to visit even if youre not a train buff. Be sure and check out the train and layout made from legos! Such friendly people.
Great railroad museum. A lot to see and more to come. Very friendly and enthusiastic people involved in the operation.
There was a lot to see here! So many small details that I would have missed if the volunteers there had not pointed them out. Like the moonshine still or the Hobo in the boxcar. Made me want to dig out my old O gage train and set it up.
Ive been here many times. Fun, positive atmosphere, tons to see for all ages. There are dozens of activities to keep the kids occupied - for hours!Even if youre the parent, grandparent, caregiver of toddler who is sick to death of seeing and hearing about trains - You will still enjoy your visit. You may even find a spark of joy :)Claire is incredibly cordial and welcoming. All of the VOLUNTEERS (yes, everyone here is a volunteer) are dedicated to making sure every guest enjoys their visit and are as informed and educated as they wish to be.Id like to stress the fun, truly FAMILY FREINDLY and truly INTERACTIVE environment. My family and I have been to every train shop, museum and display within a 200 mile radius of St. Louis . This place is very different. Almost every single place weve been to, its the same dank, musky environment. A space full of cramped, disappointing displays with Do not touch signs all over - Because even though its advertised as a family friendly and interactive place, the seemingly depressed person behind the counter would rather lock you out as you approach the door than to allow you to come in with child who will touch things. (Dont get me wrong, there is a lot here that should not be touched but theres much more to play with than there is to avoid). I have never, not once, witnessed a shop owner or museum curator bother to get out of their seat while visiting their place. Seriously, not once. If you ask a question, they hollar at you from their seat. I stress - This is NOT the experience you will have at Iron Spike.Don & the volunteers are constantly working on new set ups and displays and changing out the themes and decor seasonally. If you went to visit last year or the year before - Go back again! A lot has changed. There are always new things to see, learn and do. With the many other things to do around town, you can easily make it a day trip or weekend away - I promise, you wont regret it.
A lot of work going on at Ironspike. What an amazing collection of miniature trains, and the detailed legacy of private collectors.Fantastic! Great for all ages. We took our kid, he loved it.
Nice large area of working models to see. Great area for kids to play in. Nice staff! Conductor Dan does presentations once a month.
This is a great place to visit for a day of fun. The volunteers here are all friendly and knowledgeable. In fact they also work on the railroad! Great details in all of the different gauges. I for one loved the N scale RR. Wonderful plans to expand and grow with two caboose and a dining car. Im looking forward to a return visit soon!
What a great idea and fun place to loose yourself for an hour or more. If youve ever wanted to see a group of model trains from all over the world and amazing skill and grace in putting together the tracks and surroundings, you cant go wrong coming to this converted car dealership and checking it out. Simple fun and worth the admission.
Wonderful place to take your family. We love it.
We thoroughly enjoy this place it is an outstanding plethora of information for model railroad hobbyist and enthusiasts. There are a lot interesting things to see and individuals with a lot of information. Will definitely back there very soon!
If youre a model train enthusiast, this would be a great place to spend a few hours looking around. If youre a veteran, it is free to tour otherwise $5 and well worth it. Kids would love this place but keep an eye on them, no touching.

Good family fun. Like all non profits, they struggle with technology but their hearts are in the right place. If you like model trains, this is a fun way to spend some time looking at approximately one gazillion miles of track, trains and miniature villages.Just $5 and well worth it.
Great place to bring kids of all ages. Lots to see. A a great playroom- hands on Lego trains. Our 4 yr. old grandson LOVED it. Looked and played for hours!!
This was so much fun for everyone. Grandpa and Grandma, my 10 and 7 year old loved it as did my 17 yr old nephew. My husband took a lot of pictures and the staff helped show us around and turned on the various things. We spent three hours here and no one was annoyed or antsy to leave.
Extensive and interesting display of operating model trains. Big and highly detailed O, S, HO, and N scale layouts. Knowledgeable staff.
Love it, have a very big train play out. 3 sizes of trains. 10,000 square feet of trainsWill go back. Still working on it. Small fee to see
Great spot. Spent a couple hours checking out the active, running dioramas Super knowledgeable staff, some of whom built some of the dioramas. Kids room for full hands on experience Our grandson was fully engaged the whole time
A bit overpriced for just looking at model trains. The kids liked playing with the train table more than anything and we can do that free at the Frisco Train Store in Valley Park. The signs about not touching were a bit much lol.
I havent been inside but the nice lady who owns it used to let me park my tractor trailer there so I could have some time at home. :)
Wonderful surprise. Severely underestimated the quality of this place by the looks of the outside. Made my day and would go back.
Wide variety of models and scales. Good place to visit if someone is trying to decide what scale to model.
Fun place to spend the day.
If you havent been in to check this out you are missing a great day!!
On our first visit we became members. The setups are nostalgic and realistic. A lot of love, history and creativity have gone into the development of this museum. My 4 yearold grandson introduced us and finds his way there once a week. If you even simply like model trains you will enjoy Iron Spike.
Great place and it is always changing.

Enormous model railroad layouts, a Thomas the Tank Engine room for wee ones, a railroad history library, and special outreach events await you in Washington, Missouri. Bring the whole family!
