Friends dragged me here to ride the river but I had no idea there was a hike involved. The hike starts with a steep descent through a bunch of paper bark trees where you use their roots as steps, its very steep. After that, you walk along a root-covered trail (be careful not to roll your ankle like I did) through the forest having to duck under and climb over fallen trees several times. We went around the trail counter-clockwise and about 1/3 through theres a really cool river crossing where someone has a little taro farm growing. After that theres a long hike up and down steep hills covered in tree roots, theres lots of places to rest at least. At the halfway point of the trail theres a path that leads down to the river, thats what we did, its extremely steep and the tree roots mostly are gone for this part, theres a lot of sliding down steep hills on your butt because theres nothing to grab onto. The river itself isnt great for floating down because about half of the river is so shallow you have to get up and walk across slippery rocks, at least in June its that shallow. Still fun and beautiful though.
Risa McDowell I don’t understand how you feel that because you own a house up in the area, that makes you owner of the street parking? The street, and the parking belongs to the City, and is considered PUBLIC! You do not have any say, or the right to kapu that area as your own. Sorry to burst your “Entitlement “ bubble but if you’re unhappy about it feel free to move! That area is for everyone to enjoy. It was that way before you moved there. You were completely aware of what you were getting into.
As residents of this area we don’t like the hikers parking near our homes. There is ample parking along the fence on California Ave. as you come up to the residential area. It is by the opening for the Army training area. It is a short walk up to the trail. Be mindful for all the residents up here who want to have available parking for their family and friends. The Bus comes up here too so we can’t block both sides of the street.
Its great all the residents dont even care we park by there homes.
Great hike! A little steep on the entrance but easy on the way our. Awesome little stream spots if you know where to go.
They dont make down the trail, Its easy get lost.
Kinda not what we were looking for. The first mile or so runs directly parallel to a military base where they had a few helicopters hovering around. There was a local man who claimed to be a police officer on active duty at the trailhead. I personally think he had deepset and unaddressed mental health issues. It was a shocking reminder on the state of mental health care in the US. Neigh, most of the world. This poor guy was rambling about how he was due for a promotion and was on active duty. He had the look of someone that might live on the streets.Sometimes there has to be an allowance for cultural differences but I dont think it was my British sense of reserve that led me to believe he was crazy. Occasionally the situation arises in America when one will believe an American to be crazy when in fact theyre just friendly. This is an alien concept to us as times. So, Officer Gregory, if youre reading this and youre dismayed I am deeply sorry. But cheers for the parking advice.Trail was a let down and very confusing. Plenty of waaaaaay nicer hikes on the island.
Deffinetly a trail to go on. It is a pretty difficult trail of you dont come prepared. Like me, but all in all absolutely beautiful trilogy to hike. The water is real nice to go swim. After all that hiking you will be ready to jump in! Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks!
The information is available on your way there and have a beautiful heart condition that is the best way to get your names and back into a hospital room with the best of the house now for and oo a hotel or a problems room with the a man who is a common practice for a healthy lifestyle and you can its a bit of a risk to the fullest extent of tacos and beans
Real easy to get lost. Careful not to stumble into the army training area or off trail. Otherwise its pretty easy and offers something a little different than the majority of Oahus trails
Beautiful lakes with great folks many from the military down schofield
Bring some sort of GPS or trail tracker, trail has many branches and is not well marked.
Its the outdoors. Things are going to go wrong. Its going to be muddy, inclines, declines. If your not an avid hiker find a park.
As beautiful as it is difficult
Terrible to ruck if you want to punish your soldiers send them here
Closed, disappointed
Not much to do here.
