I am a U.S. Master Swimmer and recently decided to swim at the Princess Anne Recreation Center indoor pool. I am certainly glad that I made this decision! The staff are friendly, considerate and go above and beyond to make certain you have a good swimming experience at their beautiful recreation center. The Princess Anne Recreation is very clean and covid-19 compliant.Lpswmmr

Went swimming on Sept. 26th, 2020. Didnt like that slim male life guard checked me in with no mask on. Then proceeded to do push-ups at the edge of the pool deck with no mask on. Would have rathered he went to an unoccupied part of the swimming deck to exert himself and not breath so heavily on the the rest of us swimmers.Just spoke to aquatics manager and she informed me that she would address problem. Changing 2 star review to 4 star review.

Membership has hiked its way up from $84 to $98 to $108 for an individual the past few years. The childcare cutoff age is 8 years old...so there still is a gap in the older kids/tween department. Other facilities offer supervised care through age 12, or allow the older child to come with you for a class. So thats something to consider. In addition, if you do want to take unlimited classes, that is $34 a month. If you just want equipment use, pool, no kids in tow, a gymnasium with b-ball games etc, then the $104 rate is what youd pay. If youre a parent, you will pay for the childcare, which is currently ages 2-8. The pool here is well kept and, its basic vs other locations in terms of no slides, but the showers get hot and it is a family friendly environment. There arent gym type people here, all are welcome the same...I do wish the city would offer local residents more bang for our buck and extend programing for a broader audience range, making the rec more accessible for single parents and grandparents with their grandkids. Depending on WHAT you need, this may be a great deal. Read what is included, talk to other parents etc. and see what will work for your budget and situation.

Love this place! Have been a member just over two years and regularly work out, play adult pick up basketball, put my children in childcare, and rent rooms. Ive also brought groups of summer campers to use the pool. By far, the best thing about the center is the quality of the staff. Center director, managers, front desk, child care, weight room attendants, swim staff, theyre all friendly, helpful, and accomodating!

All my children are in their 20s, but one. I started taking them to the rec center when they were very young. My 25 yr old daughter was 4 at the time when I signed her up for the ballet classes back then and she loved it. Through the years, they graduated into working out with me. My heart was happy having 3 out of 4 children working out at the same time. My youngest one was too young to workout at the time. They are all grown and moved, but the times spent as a family together at the rec center was priceless. Do I still go to the rec and workout, now that I have an empty nest? Heck yes because the rec center just keeps on improving and I will have Grandchildren to share the future fun with!

There are a lot of reviews focusing on different things, but honestly I feel this is a steal of a deal! We pay around $10 a month for membership and a get a decent gym, pool, and activities. The YMCA is around five times as much for the same thing! Save some money and enjoy a city subsidized healthy experience.

We had my daughters 1st birthday here and a few days before the party, we got a call that the rain ruined the room we rented. They let us come in and check out the damage. They cleaned as much as they could and made it look really nice. The staff was so friendly and attentive. I really appreciate all the effort that went into making my daughters first birthday special. It really meant alot to me and my family.

My experience is with the registration office staff. Very rude and nasty. I called to cancel a week of my sons camp because his basketball team made Nationals and would be gone for that week. When I went into the rec center they tried to move him to another week which was full and even to another location. They were great. I give them all credit for trying. The system would not let them do it. She gave me the great 0402 number to call and the lady was horrible. I understand you have a job but when I’m paying my money you come at me with more respect and a better personality. If you don’t like your job I suggest you fine something else where you don’t deal with the public. I went out of he country and received notice of payment for his upcoming week. I called the rec center to ask about it because the email said I had to pay it that day. The lady I spoke with said n you have til Friday to pay. I thought about it and called the next morning to the number on the email, the great 0402. The lady I spoke with, rude as usual said, “I don’t know why they told you that, they don’t know what they’re talking about because we are already removing kids as we speak.” So I had to ask her had my son been removed and she, “He probably has, what’s his name.” Really? You hadn’t looked and hoped for the worse. Fortunately he had not been removed and was able to go into his only week I was able to get him in. Lost the money paid for the other week. My son loves going to o the camp and I love the camp instructors but what we have to go through sometimes to get them there is ridiculous.

Best deal around with activities for every age. Decent before and after school programs. Yes its a hassle when you forget your card and have to get a day pass, but really who fault is that. Always friendly staff, wish they cleaned the racquetball court floors more thoroughly... however, I can see past it considering the annual cost is about that of a month for the fancier social pick up clubs

The early childhood program at The Princess Anne Recreation Center is a great program for young children. My four year old twins attend the program and they have learnt so much in a short period of time. Ms. Kim, Ms. Cheryl, Ms. Destiny and Mr. Ryan are the most caring and amazing teachers that I have ever met. Thank you for all that you do for the children in your care.

I understand that it is the first day and they have new aid helping them but its very unorganized. last swimming lesson I was really happy with Liam my daughter actually learnt a lot from him. so if your child is taking swimming make sure that you ask for Liam. he pays attention to the children and make sure that they paying attention as well.

The closing times are completely ridiculous, almost all gyms stay open later. Plus they close at random times and are overly generous with holidays. I pay a subscription to your gym, every other business that works this way is available for their customers. These items need to be fixed as a first priority to be competitive with even the cheapest private gyms.

Princess Anne rec center: Closes at 5pm on Saturdays??? Then theres the bad customer service & policy. Forgot my 5 yr old sons membership card for his swimming lesson, but I had mine, and the lady says, ...youll have to line up over there and get a day-pass for him... Really? So we line up for the next person behind the counter, and after looking up my son on the computer, he treated us like the Gestapo and says something like, ...youre free today, but youll have to pay a dollar from now on... Really? Why? Hes already verified on the system! Is this what we get for paying for a year-long membership? He threatens us with fines, and I wait for the day-pass but there doesnt seem to be one! So I had to ask him, Can we go now? Wow... Wonder if this is an East-coast thing... Or just Princess Anne Rec Center...

Not bad for the price although going from a $84 membership to $98 last year was a big pill to swallow, BUT still a good deal considering membership pricing for others. A majority of the staff is very friendly, greeted by front desk most every visit. Only cons/peavs....waiting for available treadmills(not enough in P.A. rec) that are filled with slow long walkers and even though the new treadmills have visual running/walking programs, my only other option is to stare at the wall they all face. I use to enjoy watching others working out as I ran(for motivation/inspiration), sometimes laughs. Cant get that from a wall. And sometimes, the music from spin or body pump class is so loud, I can hear it over my headphones. Other than that, I am happy with my membership and keep coming back every year. Did I mention that I can use any rec center in va beach as may times as I want?!

Its ok for the money but every one goes there because its cheap. You can never get on anything. The opening time at 11 am on Sunday is not good, the day is over already. Dont put your child at risk and avoid their swim program!UPDATE: Ive had my son enrolled in the swim program the YMCA for a month now and its way better than the Rec Center. The classes are limited to 6 kids with two instructors broken up into two groups! The Rec Center has 10 kids with 1 instructor. The YMCA is a little more expensive, but the amount of individual attention is worth 3 times the cost! Your child will excel much faster at the YMCA!Ive been a member with the Rec centers for over 30 years. This location has decent workout facilities but the swim program is severely lacking. My 6 year old son has been taking swim lessons with this location for the past 3 years and we finally got tired of the inconsistency, neglect, and employee attitudes. When my son first started lessons at this location he was 3 years old. One class there were storms outside so they moved all the kids (except mine) to the classroom. When I saw that my son had been left alone inside the swim area, I took him home and spoke with the instructors the following class. They showed no concern that they left a 3 year old alone in the swim area.Several times he was placed in the wrong level. When I would inquire why he was moved back to the beginners level, I was told that they had no record of him. They would then go back and find his record on file and place him back into the correct class. The final straw was the last class he attended. My son had taken be in the Learn to Swim Level 3 class for the past 9 months. When he started the new class my wife noticed he was moved from one class to another with in the first 10-15 minutes. When we inquired why he was moved the instructor (Judy Marsh) told me that my son wasnt good enough for her class. She said this while my son was standing next to me. When I asked why, she told me that he wouldnt listen to her and just wanted to play with the girl next to him. When I asked what this had to do with his swimming ability, she told me that he couldnt do a flutter kick. She then tried to demonstrate to me what that was. I told her I know what that was. She told me I would have to speak with the person in charge and then blew me off. My wife came up to speak with her afterwards. Judy proceeded to tell us that shes the best instructor and that our son should not be in Level 3 class. We told Judy that he was placed there 9 months ago by the swim league coach (Kathryn Guevara) and received instruction in the Level 3 class from Teresa Weissman and Jaclyn Guevara) during that time. Judy told us that shes the best instructor there and the other instructors didnt know what they were doing. When I spoke with the person in charge at that location, I was told that he wasnt aware that my son was moved. He also told me that Judy has an attitude problem, and that I wouldnt want her to teach my son. I spent half of the second class just trying to get my son into class.I then tried reaching out to Marybeth Woelfel about my concerns with Judy. Marybeth told me that she wouldnt have taken her child to have the speak with Judy in the first place. I asked her what I should have done, since I couldnt leave my 5 year old son alone in the pool area and was told by another instructor to take Adam to Judy. She didnt have anything to say. So I reached out to Carol Fernhei who suggested I put my son in private lessons. I told Carol that we dont have time to add more swim lessons.I got the feeling that Judy is good friends with Marybeth and Carol, as they seem to have no issues having an instructor that bullies little kids. We have since moved our son to the YMCA and see a significant improvement in instruction and care for the children. The VB Rec centers management has gone downhill and lost members that grew up going to these centers.

Gym charged me a recurring monthly payment after I told them I was only in town for 8 days. They said it was a 1 time payment. 3 years later I see a charge from them for 36$. They said nothing they can do about it. I told them I was lied to. I am out $1300. I filed a complaint with BBB. Yes I do a bad job of checking my CC.

Friendly staff, exercise-oriented, equipment well-maintained. UPDATE on July 20, 2014: We quit going to the PA Rec Center after about 5 months as it had become like Muscle Beach, with all the athletes co-opting the machines and not adhering to the 30 minute guideline for max usage, then freeing the machine (bike, treadmill, weights, etc.) for the next user. Administration did nothing to remedy the situation, so we departed, leaving the remainder of our years dues behind.
