The Medicine Man Gallery is one of the most prestigious galleries in the Southwest. Dr. Mark Sublette is an expert on Maynard Dixon as well as Cowboy Artists of America and Taos artists. I have known him for several years, and he is always incredibly helpful and willing to share his knowledge with all who are interested. I highly recommend his gallery for anyone who is just curious about art or for any serious collector looking to buy or sell.
It was purely by accident I came across the Medicine Man Gallery while researching a dirty old saddle blanket I found in storage that had belonged to my father-in-law. It looked Navajo to me, but I couldnt really be sure, even after searching the internet and local library on the subject. I reached out to Dr. Mark Sublette via email, not really expecting a reply. But to my amazement, I heard back right away with good news -- my find was not a saddle blanket (although had been used as one), but rather a 1930s Navajo Ganado rug. Mark not only identified the item, but gave me information on having it cleaned, and an approximate value. This is a man who loves his subject and work, he is happy and willing to share his expertise. I hope to get to Tucson soon to see in person his impressive gallery of Native American and Western art and artifacts.
Marks complimentary evaluation of Native American artifacts is a wonderful service. I sent him photos of a friends basket we thought was of Papago origin. Turns out it wasnt, but Mark let us down courteously and kindly. He knows his stuff! I would definitely trust him for buying or selling!
Our family have had two Navajo weavings for fifty years, but weve never been able to get details about the meanings of the designs. Jaime generously wrote back giving a detailed description of the woven designs. These are invaluable weavings to our family and Jaimies thoughtfulness to take the time to do this was a wonderful gift. We can now pass down his information to future generations. Thank you.
I contacted Mark about 2 baskets I acquired some time ago. He responded very quickly and was very kind and informative. Now I have an estimated age and the origin of the 2 baskets.Visited his Gallery a few years ago while on a vacation trip ((Im from Luxembourg, Europe) and just loved it. If youre in Tucson and youre interested in Native art, make sure to stop at the Medicine Man Gallery. You wont regret it.
Very responsive to requests. I wrote to get information on an item I own and received a quick response. After sending photos the response was again quick and I got a description of my piece with approximate date and era.I feel that Mark is very knowlegable and helpful to getting more information.Highly reccommend this business.
Sent Mark an email with pics and info on a Navajo Blanket/Rug I inherited since after I did my own research I still had questions. Mark was nice enough to answer them and give me a quick good appraisal! Thanks again Mark!
We received 4 Navajo rugs from a relatives estate and knew nothing about them. I contacted Mark and sent him some photographs. He responded very quickly and provided us with estimated dates and regions associated with them. It was great to work with Mark on this and I look forward to doing business with him in the future.
This is like a wonderful trip to an art museum. Make sure you bring your pocketbook because the prices are high, but the art is amazing.
Great Experience. Fast, Honest Evaluation and Professional staff. Thank you!
I was trying to gather information for a friend. Mark was so helpful and informative. If I am ever in the market for an addition to art collection, I would go to him first. What a great experience.
I work for an art auction house in Florida and contacted Mark Sublette because we recently received a large consignment of southwestern American Indian pottery, and I know him to be an authority on the subject. Among the items in the collection was a beautiful basket that I was unable to identify, so I sent him a photo requesting his opinion. He wrote back right away with the identifying information I needed, thanks so much Dr. Sublette!
I emailed Mark Sublette with a question about identifying a basket and he was kind enough to respond quickly with an answer. It was refreshing to correspond with someone that is generous enough to share their expertise.
I contacted Mark by email (I live in Spain) for asking some questions about how to detect old art and reproductions. He was very handful and friendly. I liked very much his expertise advising so I am happy with the help!

WOW! Havent been to the Gallery, but found them on an internet search in my efforts to determine the origin of a weaving I found. Emailed Steve and got back to me on the SAME DAY - a Sunday, nonetheless, with some good information - even though the outcome was for no benefit to the Gallery. Im super impressed with his integrity and commitment to sharing his expertise - THANKS!

Mark Sublettes Medicine Man is the apex of a Native American Art Gallery. Im from New Mexico, lived in Albuquerque and shopped in Santa Fe for years. This gallery is one of the best in the Southwest. Their prices are fair. Their selection is knowledgeable and exceptional. Their service is unprecedented. Truly a must stop for those who truly know the Southwest culture.
Mark Sublette and his team have made this Gallery a destination! I live in San Diego, but always make time to stop here when visiting family in Tucson. Can’t believe there’s not a ticket booth at the front door to charge admission. It’s half gallery, half museum of fine Southwest pieces of art, ...and half history class if you spend time talking with Dr. S. He is a wealth of information, and he graciously shares his knowledge and passion via his podcast videos.
