One of the most Interesting places in the area. Great parking, Handicapped accessible, and reasonably priced. The people who work here add to the wonderful experience of visiting because for them it is not just a job. They are very proud and knowledgeable about the museum. They had the most wonderful insights to items and their history. The inside of the museum is easy to navigate and maintained nicely. It is a fun place to take the family or just a regular trip. We will definitely be returning.
Love the Alabama Pioneer Museum. We havent visited in over 20 years... time has taken its toll. Many outside exhibit buildings have degraded and needs attention. The covered bridge is in good shape, so its safe to cross.Inside exhibits in good shape and well worth the visit to get a glimpse of AL past.Impressed with the tribute to Alabama Baptist Childrens homes and orphanage history.
Very interesting lots of cool things to learn about I only wish I could enter more of the buildings.
Loved it! The staff was so welcoming and informative. The exhibits were wonderful and we will definitely return!!!
It was a awesome! Will definitely visit again
Lots of history of Alabama, and the south in general. Very nice military memorabilia building. Loved looking at the Old Log Homes and farm buildings. . Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. There is a large picnic area on the grounds. .
Long hours by very hard working people sitting in a beautiful spot of Troy Al. Well worth the admission, this is a not for profit and depends on sales and donations.
Watch out for the old ghost lady that is very disrespectful to children and demands money for looking at the train !
Closed on Sunday.Not an issue...
Huge disappointment. Like another person mentioned all the outside buildings are locked. You cant see anything from the few that have windows because its so dark inside. If only looking at the main building and small drug store is worth your money then check it out. Personally I thought it was a waste of time and money. Apparently they only open the locked buildings up for childrens field trips. That would have been nice to know before paying.
Super cool place and the scenery is amazing
If you like old tools you will like it
A lot of history packed into this place. Loved it.
Nice museum, but the historical buildings were locked and didnt allow for viewing the interior.
Nice place for old things and to go back in time with the military.
Because I like giving others a glance at how we lived.
My 5 year old said,THANKS FOR BRINGING ME HERE! It was well worth it!
Loved it!Very informative and friendly staffSuffering from a lack of volunteers so if you are a local looking for something to do with your spare time, here it is.
If you love history you will enjoy it!
Interesting and well done displays. Friendly and helpful staff.
This place is a good 2 hour or so activity that is both fun, interesting, and educational. Its pretty amazing how many old artifacts they have, although they do need to do a significantly better job with signs telling about the items. It will be a job though as there are thousands of items. The main building has dozens of displays of all tyoes of things used in pioneer life. One of the buildings outside you will find is a general store. But, nothing is for sale. It is a general store from years ago with original items still on display! Very cool. Theres also a nature trail and many other buildings. Groupon can save you about 60-70% on tickets. Definitely worth a visit once or twice.
Not sure what people can ask more from a site that has endless amount of artifacts and sets that take you right back in time. Great place if you want to learn history, see objects used by people back in the day and enjoy a museum that is not overly packed. It is a great place for kids and adults.
Nice staff, an unexpected fine but really enjoyable. Loved walking around on the grounds and taking pictures
This place is great! One our tour buss Kincaid Of Panama City Beach broken down right by this place. It is great place right out Troy, Al that has lot History about AL. The people there very knowledge about local History of AL. You will have great time going back into time what and how AL. came to be. Must go place.
The inside of the facility is nice but everything outside is a complete waste of money. The buildings outside are all closed and there is trash and plastic lawn chairs everywhere. It makes the entire exhibit look cheap and unauthentic. There was even yellow caution tape inside of one of the pioneer buildings. It looks like the employees dont care about at least keeping it clean.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.. The museum was very well set up, displays were all labeled and well preserved..
Good sights, however, after paying $18 for admission we were told to leave the premises due to a photography policy and received no refund!
Love the Pioneer Museum. Been on several field trips there. Each one was great and I even learned something!
We came on a Tuesday so some things werent open, which is maybe why.But in a lot of the buildings that werent open, or around little corners they just had junk and garbage stuffed.A lot big metal things, such as the stationary steam engine, are just left out in the open to rust and decay.Inside has some cool stuff and some of the buildings outside are pretty cool. Definitely cool to go to once. They dont take great care of a lot of the things they have
Awesome to see the past whole family had a great time.
A great collection of things from the past.
I had been seeing the Pioneer Museum of Alabama for several years on trips I would take to South Alabama but never had an opportunity to stop. My wife and I love to visit places like this because we love the history and the things that can be learned. So we were coming through Troy, AL today 5/20/17 and decided to stop. They have an inside museum and also the grounds with lots of historical buildings and an old locomotive. We paid the $10 each for the facility. They have a museum inside that was filled with a lot of very interesting things and some great history. The grounds were a different story. They have a pretty decent collection of historical buildings on the property along with a covered bridge and an old locomotive. We enjoyed the inside, but were very disappointed with the grounds. More than half of the buildings were closed and locked so that you could not even look inside. I understand that volunteers are hard to come by these days, but they could have at least opened the buildings and roped off so that you could not go in, but could look inside. We were not the only people that were disappointed, we spoke with another couple who felt the same as we did. We spent our money, and $20 may not be that big of a deal to everyone, but I didnt plan on just wasting $20. I have been to Burritt Museum in Huntsville, AL. Save your money by not stopping at the Pioneer Museum and make the trip to the Burritt Museum. They have a lot more buildings and they are all open. On another note, the staff that we encountered at the Pioneer Museum were very nice. All in all, a disappointing visit.
Beautiful place with very extensive collection of historic pieces.
LOTS of interesting stuff! Dont miss the Cornbread Festival tomorrow.
The people are wonderful and extremely helpful. The museum is beautiful and lots of history.
So much history! All of our kids need to learn about it! Steam locomotives and engines. How to live off the grid.
Very nice place. My boys had a good time there
Interesting educational cultural place; but needs better maintenance.
Interesting place. A look into the past
Nice historical place to visit on a beach trip!
Lots of things to see, and such a friendly staff. Very much worth the stop!
Had a great time
Very awesome place loads of history
No handicap accomodationd
Love it.
Too expensive
My family drove 2hours. The first site was a broken down car in the entrance. This was really no big deal except that the rest of this visit felt like it was broken down. The houses were in disrepair. The gardens completely overgrown. The chicken coop had one chicken. The train which was offered on the website looked like it has not run in years. The making butter demo was a hoax. Nothing was as it was offered on the website. I have some familiarity with pioneer villages because my family has a museum in Christmas, Florida. We have pioneer homes and a museum. I was very disappointed. This museum should close. It is obviously not cared for any more. Very sad....
Have visited this place once. Was not really impressed with the set up of things.
