I always felt this tiny park was once a home for a civil defense observation post. There is a small landing atop two polls poised at the summit of the steps that rise from Euclid Ave. Atop those polls one could see for miles. Or perhaps a signal light was once mounted on said platform. The steps are not for the timid. I believe I counted 144 and they will get your heart pumping. A unique spot that has always piqued my curiosity regarding its origins. It seems quasi-military. The small circle of grass a physical training calisthenics area or pugilistic pit. The stair climb being part of the training. I could be way off. Go check it out for yourself.
My fiancee and I found this set of steps and have committed to getting in shape together utilizing them. The are 8 flights of 18-25 steps each. The area is shaded by trees and very serene. Upon reaching the top, one can celebrated and take a victory lap around the circle before heading back down. I would caution potential users to be cognizant of their footing as some stairs are broken and debris falls on them as well.
Great view, I love running these stairs
It wasnt that bad place to visit.
Very small park. I can see how it was once a good view of the city of Syracuse. However as the trees have grown, you cant really see the city unless you visit during early spring.
Good views of the campus. And I like how this park has lights on late after midnight.
Great view.
