It was great period the staff were super friendly, they had a great variety of mixed media, and they sell have airbrush guns. Excellent selection of ink, graphite, charcoal, and markers! The only thing lacking was sculpting material,as the selection was small.
I love this place! great deals on all sorts of things and if I could win a bunch of money from the nylottery I would give some to the cny spca and then do a shopping spree in the art store. Sharon Blair is a wonderful art teacher it is was meant to be to find this place! below is some art work I did at home on my own a picture of Parker Schnabel from Gold Rush and my Osprey picture.
Absolutely fantastic staff, extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. I had a variety of different projects that needed supplies from airbrush stenciling to miniature painting, and they had everything I needed. Additionally, they offered not only tried and true recommendations, but also some very interesting esoteric options that piqued my creative interest and had me thinking long after checking out. And thats not even mentioning the 25% student discount. Will absolutely be back!
It is the best art store in NY and quite possibly the whole world. The selection out does big chain stores, great sales, friendly staff, organized, super clean. Incredible SELECTION. Stuff I have never seen ..... and Ive seen it all!
The Art Store has knowledgeable employees which you dont get when shopping on line. They have re-done the entire store and added lots of new product. It only sells on line through Amazon and does not sell through their own web site. I was told at school that they offer a student discount, but I asked for it at check out and was told they already discount most product 30% off product??? As a big portion of their local business is serving Syracuse University students, I was dismayed and a little shocked. It does have an awards program.
Great local art supply store! Reasonable prices and wide selection.
Love this place. The people who work there are super helpful. Wouldnt go anywhere else for my architecture supplies.
Great local shop with a super friendly & knowledgable staff. Why spend days waiting to get your supplies in the mail? Shop local and get it today!
They had what I was looking for and a good price
My girlfriends parents were in from Montreal, Quebec and her dad was looking for a very specific paint. Although the store didnt carry it in stock, they quickly shared information on how to get it and they were very informative about how he could use other paints in their stock to achieve a similar color and consistency. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.
This art store is the only one for hundreds of miles for me, its a guilty pleasure for me to hit up when in Syracuse. Joe, I love you! He is the sweetest manager in the best store! They have a discount table that I usually hit hard, some great sales and a great variety for an artist! LOVE this place!
I love the new changes made...looking forward to seeing the finishing touches.
Friendly helpful and great prices!
An artist paradise. They have everything you need for your project. Friendly service with helpful suggestions for what you need. The supplies are endless. The place is clean, well organized, even painting lessons are offered on the premises. I could loose myself here. Its my vibe.
Decent inventory for students and amateurs, very helpful staff
Very nice store. Friendly staff
This place is great! Prices are great, staff are amazing and knowledgeable. Staff are always available and willing to help. I drive up from Cortland for this place. So glad I stumbled across it last year!
Attentive, knowledgeable clerks. Lots of wonderful supplies for professionals and duffers alike. Fun things for kids, an upstairs art gallery, and its a LOCAL BIZ!
Really cool place just to check out. They offer many art supplies that can be difficult to find at other locations. They also offer a plethora of classes run by local artists. Sometimes their prices can be a little higher than competitors but in my humble opinion the extra money, which is normally only a few dimes, is worth it to support a local business.
Very nice and neat.
The Art Store has a great selection of products and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
JoJo is awesome!! Super helpful staff. Warhammer paints, airbrushes, citadel paint line, Windsor & Newton brushes, its all here.
Just starting art as a retirement hobby. I was welcomed and assisted with my questions with competent advice and service. Ill be a regular.
Perfect variety for your art needs. Whatever your craft, they probably have it! That being said, most of their products are high quality and therefore things can get pricey very quickly. Its difficult for me to not spend a lot here because I want everything!
Excellent informed service. Explained a brand of acrylic paint to me that I had never used before. Awesome sale on canvases, get em while you can. The gentleman that assisted me was the best. I am sorry I dont remember his name. Thank you to the guy who worked 6/26/19 Wednesday afternoon.
Everything for the artist under one roof. Definitely going back when I get paid...
Amazing place with everything you could ask for! There was even a garage sale area with unbelievable deals. Very helpful and friendly staff too. I will be returning and I live over 2 hours away!
Employees are awesome and very helpful!
Very friendly and approachable staff with a wide selection of products to purchase. Not to mention displaying real local art while also providing classes and samples. Cant wait to do more business with them!
Outstanding staff!! Im never looking around for help. They were right there when I needed advice with materials, answered my questions and were so very nice.
A wonderful place filled with all can need. The staff are super friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable. I certainly will be visiting there many times more
A nice find! All kinds of arts supplies. Quality otems.
This store had such a wide variety of high quality art supplies ranging from Copic to Prismacolor! Employees are always very helpfil!
My favorite place!! I love everyone there ️️
I wish there was a store like this when I was in college...they has such a great assortment of oil paints that I will never have send away for my pigments ever again...the prices and selection is far more superior then any other art and craft store in our area
Saying that it was a well worth 2 hours drive is an understatement! The folks there were friendly, helpful, and well knowledgeable in the field. Would go there again!
Living in Maine as I do, I dont get back to Syracuse often enough. A chance holdover waiting for a rental truck left me the opportunity to go explore The Art Store. It still has all the supplies I needed for my years as an art student at SU, but theyve added a tasteful gallery with work by local artists on display. This was a trip down Memory Lane with some white paint pens to boot.
They carry pencils that I cant get anywhere else. Im really picky about my drawing pencils.
Great gallery of local artists
No one came up to us to see if we needed help
Very helpful employees !
Thay had avery thing I needed .
Amazing staff and tool selection. Def support this place before going to michaels etc. They offer classrs, will help you with your shopping list and project bbudgets. Huge selection oof brushes and paints. Knowlegable well trained staff.
They have so much stuff.. Pricey.. But if Youre a student they will give you a small discount on everything.
I could have a field day in the store. So many things for the accomplished and budding artist
I work here! Stop in and let us help you find the perfect art product or get your questions answered. I also teach classes. Sign up for emails to be notified of upcoming classes and get discounts.
Red and big
Enjoyed looking at the exhibits. Had everything I was looking for.
Great selection, very helpful & friendly staff
Great place fair prices for local and good people
Staff is very knowledgeable, helpfull and friendly. Love this place my main place to get all my supplies.
SUPER HELPFUL STAFF
The couple times I have visited have been wonderful. There are a few things that I wish they carried, like daniel smith watercolors and empty watercolor pans, but I can understand not stocking everything. Any time I have ever had simple questions they have always been as helpful as they can. Having so many mediums in the store, its definitely understandable to me that the clerks may not know everything. If you like art, I definitely recommend stopping in.
I had a sales person help me get the stuff I needed. He was the best
Very thorough amount of supplies
Quiet art supply store near downtown Syracuse. Perfect place to get the things you need to restock your supplies or find new things to try. This store had a large stock & the staff tends to be knowledgeable but not pushy.
Very helpful staff and quality art supplies.
Its a pretty good place to start. The older short haired redhead is knowledgeable and a huge help. But the staff doesnt always know what they are talking about. So do your own research before completely relying on the staff. Prices are decent. I tend to price check with online stores. But this location is great in letting you try out the paints (you obviously cant do that online).
I went there to find some special paint brushes. Oh boy do they have brushes!! For art supplies this is a full service stop.A very interesting find was a large selection of drafting templates and supplies. If, like I, you still want drafting templates this is likely the last store in CNY to carry them. I wish I had thought of this place a few months ago when I spent a fruitless day trying to find them locally. Sigh.....A frame shop is part of the store as well as lots of supplies for those that want to do thier own framing. Of special interest, and worth a trip there, is that the store displays some art, my guess from local college students, that are for sale.Worth a trip to just see what they have.
I feel like this is one of those places that you see the exterior, and go whoa, what the hell is that building doing pretending its a zebra? Who is that gonna fool? And then you go inside and you go hang on a second, this isnt a zebra! Its a really nice art store with a great selection of art products! Im not a student, so its pricey, for sure. But where else are you gonna get some of this stuff, michaels? Eh, no thanks.
Good selection, great customer service.
The store has a large selection of art supplies. The staff is very open and friendly. Prices are good. Public transportation is close by two blocks. There is no public restroom. They offer many different types of classes.
Good selection and prices. The employees are very friendly and helpful. It’s nice having a local art store to support and supports us
Excellent art supply store for the struggling college student. They offer a lot of great deals for students and most things there are cheaper than wholesale. I find the staff to be very knowledgeable and helpful when searching for specific items. I also here they offer classes although I dont live close enough to go there frequently
Great store. Staff so helpful. Get all my colored pecils and supplies there.
Great art supply store, they have everything from drawing supplies to making your own picture frames, drawing tables to easels, along with clay making.
Very helpful staff and had everything I needed.
What a fun place! It is so nice to go into an art store and have such a friendly & KNOWLEDGEABLE staff! It is disappointing to read the few negative comments below because I do not feel as though they are a true reflection of this GEM OF A STORE! Dont let a few bad apples spoil the bunch, ya know! This store employs working artists who actually use the materials they are selling to you. I feel so fortunate to have this store in my community. I have taken several classes offered at the store and have been able to improve my personal practice as an artist... because... I have this wonderful resource available. I am now a loyal customer. &&&&& I LOVE TO SHOP LOCAL :)
Ive been going to this art store since I was around 5, an Im 36 now.
They have beautiful paper!
So great to discover a local artist store! They seem well stocked in all mediums and have a printing and frame shop too.
Disappointed - they do NOT carry artist grade watercolor paints (Schmincke, Daniel Smith, etc), their prices are on artist grade papers too high for local market & online market; and while they will honor a competitors coupon, it is a process involving them calling the other store and confirming they also carry the EXACT same item - thus eliminating any need for me to return ... no quality artist grade items I searched, 3 times staff approached other customers to inquire if they needed help - but never asked me or my daughter - we were ignored until check out, then questions were answered curtly. Also, while trying to find anything I could use at a decent price - another customer inquired if the had Cross pens - the employee had no clue what a Cross pen is. My questions were met with similar unsure answers. The ONLY social media they keep up to date is they apparently send out a weekly email blast. The well stocked and attractively laid out store, that I loved in the 80s and 90s is long, long gone.
Great variety of artist grade supplies.Updatede 11 May 2017 — this place is a real gem for artists and art supplies. Nor since I lived in San Diego have I lived this close to as well stocked art supply store. It isnt easy to run a supply store such as this. The amount of inventory and the cost associated is huge and this store offers such a wide variety of supplies. So many different artist mediums and techniques are available here. When I first posted my review it was shortly after moving to Syracuse and I wasnt aware of the demos they offered. Regularly a wide range of demonstrations on an equally wide variety of products are offered free. Showing up a tad bit early is all you need to do, and the time is fairly consistent, 2P. If you are an artist or crafts person check this place out. Seriously.
Love this art store I take my daughter there but every time we never leave without spending at least 80 bucks for like 4 things but its definitely worth it
Sales person was very helpful and answered all my questions. Ive also had some needlework pieces framed and been very pleased with the results
Best place to shop for art supplies in syracuse. Also the only real art store in syracuse. Good customer service. Allows me to test materials before i buy. They also have classes, and frequent demos. Their stock is sometimes thin, but its understandable given the struggles of brick and mortar stores. Im willing to pay a little more here, than buy something online that I cant touch or test.
Well stocked art store, perfect for students.
Excellent store, they are always pleasant and extremely helpful, I LOVE getting my supplies here. You folks rock, keep up the good work!!(This post brought to by the American Association of people who huff paint fumes)
Amazing selection of art supplies, including a test room to try out products or brands before you buy them.
Excellent helpful staff
I had very good experience the salesman was knowledgeable and knew what l needed to thanks
Cool art supplies and knowledgeable staff.
It was quite a letdown. Truly lacking in supplies.
Amazing selection of art supplies and the staff is very friendly and helpful
Great products, great help and service. Classes too
Great place, great service, great products!
Im not an artist by any means, but someone special in my life took me there to buy her Studio supplies, I was impressed by finding a place thats not an Art&Crafts shop, two different worlds. Therefore if U need Art supplies from, Novist,to Pro. Thats where U go, not too many such places are available.Go see the 5rue colors.
Very nice store. Huge selection of all type of art supplies! Prices are reasonable but not great, Michaels or hobby lobby is deffinately cheaper if youre using a coupon, but many supplies at the art store are not sold elsewhere in Syracuse. You also have the option to try out lots of pens and markers in the store. Generally a great experience!
It is Nervana for art supplies.
Helpful knowledgable staff had everything I was looking for
Great selection, good prices, helpful & knowledgeable staff
Very helpful Staff. Everything you will need for Art Supplies available under one roof!
A regular stop for my wife when we go to Syracuse. Offers a wide variety of art supplies at reasonable prices. Insufficient parking is our only complaint.
Looks cool as heck and very neat
It has everything you need and then some
Great place - I know I can get what I need there, plus the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.
Helpful, friendly staff. Student discounts.
Meh...CNY deserves MUCH better. The 6+ times I’ve visited in the last 4-5 years, customer service in terms of knowledge and attitude varied widely. There seemed to be a lot of holes where dust had accumulated so obviously unstocked for some time. Prices compared to Blick, Jerry’s brick and mortar stores are much higher. For example, a large sheet of illustration board is twice what I paid in Blick’s store. Bookbinder board is twice Amazon’s price. Decorative paper used by book artists is twice what Jerry’s charges for the same identical design. Most recently the price for a large sheet of student grade watercolor paper took my breath away. I hate to say it but CAS/TAS may be going the way of so many brick and mortar retailers. Since this is the only real art supply store within 2+ hours of Syracuse, I think it could be salvaged with some re-thinking. First, GET A WEBSITE at least listing the product lines carried. The store certainly needs to be brighter and more inviting. While I may have missed it, I saw no signs for workshops or product demonstrations. Blick and Jerry’s have these all the time. CNY with Syracuse University, Lemoyne College, Onondaga C.C. and four SUNY’s an hour away is by no means a wasteland for talent to teach or customers to buy.The location SUCKS! It is in a part of the city that is commercially dead and rundown. Road construction ongoing and planned for the future makes getting there difficult and it will just get worse. I think relocating to a somewhat smaller, more refreshed space with a classroom in a busy retail area with parking, preferably east of the city, would help tremendously. Add classes & demos, make prices more competitive, hire knowledgeable, friendly staff and CAS/ TAS would be a real asset to the community of artists. I know I would be very happy to drive the hour to support this business if prices were better and it had what I needed.
Way more suited towards an artist than Michaels, Hobby Lobby and AC Moore combined
