Really informative war museum. Plan to spend at least two hours or more if you really like to get into all the details. Friendly, helpful staff.
Make sure you watch the video when you first get in! Everyone is so nice and is more than willing to answer questions! Employees & volunteers take pride in their jobs!! The museum itself is great! It is very informative and has some amazing artifacts!! Great for all ages! I also want to mention that the admission is reasonable!! Only $9 for an adult!
Very cool, Well done museum. Excited to see developing exhibits
Plenty of cool things to check out. Lots of history
Very nice museum. Hidden Gem! Worth a quick stop! Plan on a 30-40 min visit to read and look at everything. Thanks to all Veterans who served this Great Country protecting our freedoms, rights, and way of life!Nice Job VFW!
Great little museum to honor Richard Bong and all WWII veterans
This one was a big surprise... its actually one of the best museums Ive visited. Good for teenagers. Great displays, lots of artifacts, and smart explanations of the history. I never say this about any museum but Ill be back. Dont miss it.
Learned about Richard Bong and all he accomplished in his career.
Great War memorials. P-38 Lightning was very cool and lots of things to look at.
Lots of time and effort to put together. Somebody had more time and money on their hands than necessary. Admission too spendy, wouldnt recommend.
Very informative about a local man and his accomplishments in the 24 years of his life.
A very fine tribute to veterans. Awesome artifacts
Beautiful an so many nice displays. Highly recommend.
A great tribute to Richard I. Bong, a WWII ace, and our veterans.
Great low-key museum. Takes about 1.5-2 hours to see everything. The big focus is Richard Bong, and the P-38, but the museum also does a great job covering all sorts of different parts of WW2 and more modern conflicts. There is also a nice playground outside.
Very professional museum. It is focused on Richard Bong, but it also has nice displays for events during the 2nd World War.
This is a great museum. It has great family information. I especially liked the Audio/Video overviews of the events leading up to different parts of the wars. Very good reminders to us all of the sacrifices that so many men and women have made to make our country free. I highly recommend enjoying a visit here.
Excellent museum. Everything presented well. Good thing I didnt take my wife since I read almost everything. Well worth it for the history buff.
Really liked this place. Love the history and love the fact they included the Cold War Era.
A great museum and tour that displays the accomplishments of the Ace of Aces.
Was there for my grandsons graduation party, VERY NICE
It is a excellent place to see apart of history
Stopped in with 3 kids and had a good time. As a army retiree of 21years it was a joy to see lots of people visiting. Lots of stuff to see and more is to come. Very clean and super friendly! the kids had a fine time! The M60A3 would be even better with the 50 cal and 7.62 mounted. This was a good tank and the fourth M60 series tank. Needs some TLC though- thank you for the fine museum
Just visited June30 staff was great super friendly, awesome tour guide.thanks
Was awesome to show our 10 year old a bit if history, and we learned a lot as well. Definitely worth the visit!
Very friendly staff. Small but well done exhibits. Kids enjoyed. Loved the kid scavenger hunt packbacks.
This was so worth the time to stop by and check it out. Will come again
Great little museum. A very kind and knowledgeable volunteer greeted us. Friendly staff. The place is well kept and the displays are interesting. My 10 year old was talking about it for days.
Awesome exhibits about wartime and lots of artifacts and relics.
Had a very good time there with the gentleman Peter! A great place about military and history!
What a cool little place! Lots of interesting military artifacts on display, as well as a P-38 Lightning, an M60, and a real Congressional Medal of Honor. Well worth the price of admission. The Heavy Metal tour only really lets you look in the cockpit of the plane, which is neat, but not exactly worth the extra money unless youre feeling generous.
Good place to visit and honor our veterans.
Very well presented and very interesting!
Very well done museum. Lots of interesting artifacts.
Really interesting display of the history of Richard I Bong, WWII ace pilot, local boy! Plus other WWII memorabilia and display of the fighting in the Pacific.
We really enjoyed the experience
Ive been driving by here for years on my way to and from the Boundary Waters, and it finally worked out for us to stop. Lots of memorabilia about the all-time leading American fighter ace, including his plane or one of the same type. Well worth a visit.
Awesome little muesuem
Great displays! A real honor to the memory of Americas Ace of Aces
A small museum honoring a local WWII veteran. Located off a tributary of Lake Superior. Besides the museum there is a park and walking path along the banks of the tributary. The museum is very well done with a lot of history relating to WWII and Richard I Bong including the plane he flew. The volunteer staff where very friendly and welcoming. Ample parking with handicap accessibility. Highly recommend.
A great place to learn more about our airforce & Richard Bongs contributions
Its a wonderful place. Its program with the Duluth high school is great to see. Id like to see more programs like this
First time here, amazing!! Definitely will be back.
This is a great stop. Plan a few hours.
Wonderfully thought out and put together! Such important history.
Laura was amazing, we told her we were trying to explore the area for cheap/free since we just moved in. She gave us all kinds of awesome suggestions and didn’t rush us out when she realized we weren’t paying customers
Great place to stop in and see some local military history. Well done displays throughout the museum.
Great museum on a beautiful site! The people were very friendly and helpful.
Lots of interesting things to see, a missile, a p-38j lightning (one of 25 left in the world) and other interesting things. Highly recommend visiting. And a gift shop.
Thank you for including the W.A.C.s my grandmother would have been honored!Thank you Veterans and Families for your sacrifices.
I am really into history, and I fly a Cessna 182 RG. Climbing up and looking into the cockpit of a P38 made me want to fly that instead of the 182.
Definitely need to give yourself plenty of time to see everything in the museum!Highly recommend!!
Loved the exhibits and finding my Dads name on the wall. Great place to take kids, I loved watching the little ones trying on uniforms.
Really neat museum, something you can easily fit into a day trip, especially if you are a WWII buff.
If youre a history buff, this museum is the place for you. Hundreds of unique WWI and WWII memorabilia, interactives, displays and many with local ties. Beautiful setting on Lake Superior.
We do enjoyed our time here. Very well done displays.
Truly an amazing exhibit. So many amazing treasures at this museum. Even if you are not particularly into aviation history this place has a lot to offer. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The exhibit can be seen in probably and hour or you can spend all day depending on your interest level. For parents with kids there is a nice playground area outside the museum.
I love the WWII book club through the Bong Center. A great learning experience.
Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center in Superior, Wisconsin. Housed in a structure intended to resemble an aircraft hangar, it contains a museum, a film screening room, and a P-38 Lightning restored to resemble Bongs plane.Richard Ira Bong (September 24, 1920 – August 6, 1945) was a United States Army Air Forces major and Medal of Honor recipient in World War II. He was one of the most decorated American fighter pilots and the countrys top flying ace in the war, credited with shooting down 40 Japanese aircraft, all with the Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter. On May 29, 1941, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet Program. One of his flight instructors was Captain Barry Goldwater (later a U.S. Senator from Arizona). He died in California while testing a jet aircraft shortly before the war endedPhoto by: Rossy Rey (July.24) / Superior, Wisconsin

This museum is full of factual information and amazing exhibits and their films are great. Spent all day there and barely got to read everything!
Cool little museum, low cost and the kids enjoyed it
Great War Museum! Was there for a fund Raiser and as usual, had a great time. Its another great museum to visit after or before the S.S. Meteor Whale back Museum in Superior Wisconsin. They are only one mile apart.

Very enjoyable and affordable museum. There are cool WWII relics that you get to see up close, including a P-38 plane and several firearms, as well as personal stories of real people who lived through the war.
AWESOME ! Everyone should see it!
Friendly staff, great displays, my kids and I loved it
Under-visited place, reasonable cost, good parking, right on the Bay
Very informative about u. s. War history.
Information overload. But nicely done. Didnt make it to the historical scene inside. Next time definitely.
Highly recommend, my ten year old loved it!
A very interesting military museum. It has an original bomber, and many other relics from the wars. I enjoyed listening and watching the movies and explanations of the displays.
I visited last year with my sons 3rd grade class. The staff was very friendly, very patient with the kids, and very knowledgeable. I would recommend this place to anyone.
What a great place to learn about a true hero and see a gorgeous restored P38 Lightning with unique nose art... Marge. Lots of nice little exhibits throughout a nice facility. Well worth a pit stop on a trip to the north shore.
Love this place
Its a smaller museum but the quantity and quality of items they have in there is astounding! I went their for my grandpa and left way more fascinated in WW2 than I ever have been.
Very helpful! Free maps
Lots of great information about this WW2 hero in house, along with photos, artifacts, and a beautiful replica of the P38 Lightening he flew. Recommend for all WW2 and aerial combat buffs.
