Nice hidden trail near Sunnyvale pollution control plant. The marshes here are home to diverse wildlife including Nene, Mallard, Canvasback, and Great Egrets. We visited this trail during duck hunting season in December. Catch is plentiful around this time according to local hunters. Landfill hills create a scenery towards the west mountains. The extension into bay allows for great views of the east bay mountains such Mission Peak. Overall, the walk is serene and peaceful away from the city noise.
One of the more underrated outdoor spaces in the Bay Area. Great for an easy run, especially around sunset
Great trail for hiking and biking. Views 9f the bay and many birds.
No crowd, quiet, windy, barren sun, smelly, flying buggers, anything that the nature will bring to a good 8 mi coastal trail is all there nested near the massive Tech buildings in Mountain View/Sunnyvale.A must visit for anyone in need of what nature offers to get away from tech bubble both physically and mentally.
Nice place to run, 5K loop that is around the pools . Lots of animals like birds butterflies and other wondering around . Great escape from the city rush super close by.
Really good area for hiking, biking as well as just relaxing. Lovely sunset views!
The views from the bay trail are definitely beautiful, especially during the sunset. Though my first visit was pretty great, we walked around the trail. But on my second visit, saw a lot of insects hovering. So, I think it depends you might get to spend a beautiful evening at the trail or might be interrupted by the buzzing sounds of hovering insects.
Good place to ride bicycle, and watch birds, by the hundreds, ducks, pelicans, and more. I also so a big rabbit(huge)
Beautiful place! Not crowded, parking was easy even on a Saturday afternoon
People are Rude and disrespectful the trail is nice though
Its one of the trails at the edge of the bays back waters. Surrounded by the Sunnyvale dump, Yahoo and Lockheed buildings, the trail is almost hidden from the Caribbean Expressway. You would find miles of nice trails along the water front, suitable for biking or running. Sunsets are very beautiful, and thats what you see here.
Beautiful place for a leasurely stroll. Surrounded by water and well maintained.
My commute to work. Way better than any road, even though it is longer. A long detour out into the bay around the North end of Moffett field adds unnecessary length. The main gates closed means bike and pedestrian traffic must all squeeze through small gates off to the side. I would prefer pavement to the dusty deconstructed granite (like coarse sand), but this is supposed to be more eco friendly. Passing by the Orwellian named Water pollution control plant and other sections can be smelly. Clouds of gnats at times. Thats why only 4 stars. Great for a peaceful mindful ride to start or end the day. Plenty of wildlife: shorebirds, rabbits, birds, squirrels. Beware of the occasional skunk when traveling at night! Passed within 12 feet of a Golden Eagle perched on a fence post once. What a huge bird. locked gaze with me. It had no fear. Wish I had my phone out to get a picture, but was in the moment. Bonus is plane spotting. The trail has a great view of Moffett field air traffic- often a C130 Herc will fly circuits. Also get to watch SFO traffic turning base and final; and SJC traffic climbing out.
Great walk. Lots of waterfowl and dragon flies
This place is good to relax and enjoy and view of nature.
Great to come here in the weekend.
Spacious trail for biking and hiking, no public restrooms on the route unfortunately
The Bay Trail is great. This segment has really nice gravel that is great for running, walking and biking.
Great place for hiking
Good spot for a walk or run after work if close. It is not exactly pristine... But it is quiet and pleasant with a breeze, and the trail winds around the bay.
Has smelly points due to the treatment plants but otherwise one of the best trails in the city.
Awesome place! Great trails, great wildlife. I saw tons of different birds.
It has a lot of bugs you cannot walk there its anoying
Love this place. Always so peaceful walking or cycling round. Makes me feel closer to the bay. In 3 years the smell was bad only once and in a small area.
Very nice and easy trail
Love the place...good for walking minus some parts that smells but overall its great...
Great ride on a mountain bike, maybe a little rough for a road bike to the south of the Sunnyvale water treatment plant. North of there, this trail is great for any kind of bike.
Great trail for running
I like this place for an evening/sunset run, but its a little odd. You park at a water treatment plant and the trail (northbound) follows the backside of Lockheed Martin, a golf course, nasa, and Google campuses. The bay itself can also get VERY stinky (think rotting algae & dead fish), but when the wind is going the right direction its not bad. If youre cool with those things, the sunset light on the bay and the cool selection of birds that hang out in the area (I frequently see egrets, herons, turkey vultures, some variety of sand pipers, swallows, ducks, geese, and gangs of pelicans) make it a nice place to walk or run or bike. Ive never found the trail very busy and I like the relative solitude. If wind is low there are big ol swarms of gnats in the evening, so if youre biking you might want some face/mouth coverage.
We like walking here as its close to home. This place is both beautiful and a bit gross. It can be stinky from the water treatment plant, but the views are great!
Very good place for jogging and walking
Great running trail. Other runners there as well. Bicyclists as well!
Beautiful place to walk but beware. I foolishly stuck my purse under passenger seat and my window was smashed in and my purse and wallet were gone. I knew better but got complacent. Wake up call. Do Not Leave anything of value in your car!
If you have limited time, and want to be around tons of nature, because we keep shrinking space for wildlife down to nothing while telling the rest of the planet how to live, this is the place to show up! Has great views of ugly, boasting companies and sports teams that will surely go to dust. Ozymandias anyone?
Excellent trails for running, very well maintained.
Go with bicycle.. you will love the ride..
Parking limited and can smell so walk West towards Mountain View. Its is very peaceful and beautiful around sunrise.
Next to the water. Even, packed dirt trail.
Went to get some fresh air and do some running in the evening time and see a lot of mosquitoes.. couldnt stay for long there
Good views when not foggy. Nice running, walking, and bike trails near work.
Smelly and getting quite overgrown, but still a nice walk since there is always a breeze from the water.
Good view.Needs more maintenanceNo sign posts
Nice place to walk
Beautiful at sunrise while the moon its setting.
Beautiful view of the bay, and usually not too crowded
Great place for a walk. Even better place for a bike ride. Most of the trails is dirt so skinny road bike tires might have a hard time
Amazing!
Well-maintained, peaceful and scenic oasis
Bring a hat, no shade but good walk.
Scenic trail
Nice place for a walk
Always seeing amazing herons, egrets and other birds there, great for walking and biking
Lots of wildlife viewing along the levees surrounding the ponds. Also, great for running of cycling.
Its at the dump so not the greatest place. Its neat seeing the goats when they are there to cut the grass.
Amazing views
Place for walk around.
Lovely trails, calm and quiet, great place to walk and relax at the end of a long work day.
Great trail for walking, running and biking, with some stunning views of Moffett Field. Make sure to choose clothing based on wind forecast.
Not a good place for jogging, bad odour and flies are on the whole trail as it is ona treatment plant.
Nice view from the top
Wonderful flat trails. Lots of birds.
