At five and three years old, my kids loved learning to ice skate with the hockey players. At the end of of their eight week lessons, they were even able to shoot pucks in the goal by themselves (with some assistance). It was so fun. The bathrooms are clean. Thats very much appreciated and a sports venue.
I love skating with my friends and family and this is a great place to go because its near home!
Cheap good quality fun for the whole family
Hockey - If you like to watch hockey, the two rinks are home to both the Springfield Spirit, the Springfield Express, and the Missouri State Ice Bears. If you want to play hockey, there are both adult and youth leagues for all ages and abilities. The youth program is the only Olympic Development Program for hockey in the country. Ice Skating - There are classes and private lessons for ice skating for all ages as well. You can watch competitions and exhibitions at various times throughout the year. They also have open skate times almost every day - rental skates are available.
Missouri State has a couple of great Ice Hockey teams. Tickets are in the $7 range.Reserved seating looks like maybe 150 seats. Surprisingly, some games sell out a week or more in advance.General Admission tickets are about the same cost but offer a much better experience. Tickets go on sale at 5:30 in the pro shop upstairs. Depending on the game you may want to go downstairs & get in line. The doors open at 6:30, the puck drops at 7.General admission tickets (if you get there early) can put you right next to the glass. Even if you are standing in the back the view is great. The Ice Bears have been strong, and it is always fun to root on your team, it is even more fun when you are only a few feet from the goal.
The scoreboard is always broken and the hockey side of the place is poorly ran. I probably won’t be coming back for awhile, or at least until things get fixed here. Also, everything here is outdated and it doesn’t make it look like a very good business. My kids don’t really want to come back either
This place is ok. Last time I was here was about 2004 and it was pretty fun and a nice place but it’s a little rough nowadays. The ice was not shaved after a hockey game so ice was rough. Very hard to skate especially if you’re not an avid skater. The shoes need to be replaced as well. Probably the same skates they had back in 04. I could barely tie my shoes they were so stiff, the shoe also was deteriorating. I guess from all the disinfectant?? I would have asked for a replacement but that was the only one they had in a size 8. The music was from a little boom box and was hard to listen to. No sound system to play music?? And no railing to hold onto for amateur skaters like myself. It was very nerve racking when you had people skating all over the place, speeding past you, nothing really to grab onto, hanging out on the sides and having to skate around them because of course they don’t move. And twisting my ankle because I couldn’t get my laces on tight enough. I want to go back to learn how to skate but I’m a little hesitant to go back. If you’re not a good skater and are going to go to this place, good luck.
Took my daughter and my sister’s kids there not too long ago. I think it’s a great place to get some exercise and chill out. Rink was big enough for them to learn and not be overcrowded by other skaters. I’d say they had a blast!
Wonderful rink with great hockey programs and a friendly hockey community.
Mediacom is a great place for a fun outing with friends during open skate, but they also offer birthday parties, figure skating and hockey lessons, youth and adult hockey leagues, and exciting hockey games with the MSU Ice Bears and the Springfield Express. Rental skates, a pro shop, and concessions are also available.
Went couple weeks ago, early afternoon. Ive never been and decided to take the kids. First of all, the gal that was at the front desk didnt even greet us. And....she didnt tell us where to go, considering weve never been there. We get to the area where we get the skates. Lets just say that the skates need to be updated or provide better skates for kids under 10 years of age. Shoelaces are too long and when you wrap the laces around the skates to tie them, it ends up on the kids ankles. Had to retie their skates several times. Also, it would be helpful to have some kind of railing or provide something for people to hold onto for those who cant skate or have trouble skating. The little railing, if you want to call it that, provides nothing to those who cant skate. Ive been to better skating rinks in the past. Also, $25 for 1 adult and 2 kids (6 and 9) for an hour and a half of skating is a bit expensive...especially when kids are barely holding on to the rink so they dont fall and wearing outdated skates. Well never go back again. For that price, Im sure they can show some improvement.
This is a super great experience.
This place was okay.Pros:•The ice was worn down a bit, but was fun.•it was easy once you get the hang of it•there are resting points you can get in easily•the birthday partys are reasonableCons:•They. Need. To. Get. New. Workers! There so terrible! They were always on their phones. The lady at the front was the only nice one•there are no handles for the beginners•there were alot of people•the young boys are weeeiiiirrrrdddd (if you know what I mean )•the ice is, again, worn down a bit
Brought my kids up to skate after months of anticipation. Kind of a let down. The ice hadnt been resurfaced after the previous 2.5 hour public skate- I have never skated on ice that bad. The rental skates had probably not been sharpened in a long time either. It really made it hard to make any attempt at skating. Just two young guys running the rink who did t seem to care. Kids had fun, but I was very disappointed.
There was a kid named Lucas that works there I believe. He was on his phone talking to his friend about how they are going to be drunk. I didn’t appreciate it. I thought this was family friendly.
The rink is a good size. But it gets cowarded easliy on weekends, and Friday but the other weekdays the rink is normally pretty empty. Recommend bringing your own skates if you any, the rental sizes dont fit well. Good viewing platforms(viewing into the rinks). Birthday rooms are bland, so if youre planning a birthday party there I recommend bringing your own decorations. They offer ice sakating class and theyre taught well. I would say the place itself is chill and casual. Overall I have enjoyed my experiences there.
Love the ice rink great fun. Affordable prices
Worse ice skating experience ever. Rental skates were horrible, staff even worse. Go to Favettville, AR instead
The ice park was very fun. It isnt super cold, only a sweater is needed. Kids cut their hands open on the skates when they fell, and it was pretty dramatic, but I didnt let that stop my fun. The rink is a little small, and looked run down on the inside, but the experience was good.
Great facility but its a shame its managed so poorly. The pro shop is never open during the posted hours they say they are (Ive tried going 5 different times and never open during posted hours for the shop!). Only for a couple hours a few days a week that are never advertised. Typically they are during the middle of the afternoon when no one that works for a living can make..
This place could really be amazing. But its horribly ran, if anyone is doing it at all. Front desk people rarely look up from their phones to greet anyone. The place is absolutely filthy. The parking is a joke. Good luck getting a place with anything else going on downtown. We gave up going to hockey games years ago because of this. I would not recommend this place.
I have been coming here since it was Jordan Valley ice park, and I always love it, it is an amazing place, can get crowded on the more popular sessions, but if you can go on a weekday during a midday sessions your experience will be much different, my wife and I went the other day on a Tuesday and there was only four of us on the ice. It was $18 for my wife and I, which is higher than it used to be but oh well. The staff was friendly and helpful as always.
Fun for all ages. Very clean and great sound system. Most of the rental skates could use new shoe strings though.
Great local ice park, well maintained and great instructors for the kids. Close to food and other things to do as well and with good snacks to top it off. The entire staff is super friendly and helpful, they are awesome love skating here with friends at least once in a while.
Great skating rink! Great price also
After watching Hockey here, we were hooked. Home of Springfield Express and. MSU hockey. There is skating for anyone willing to try. Personally never tried. Dont know the prices for skate rental. There is a pro shop with hockey and skating gear. Good concessions. There is an elevator for those who cant take the stairs. Go Express!!!
This is a good friendly service, my only complaint are the skates. My daughter had 2 blisters halfway through and couldnt skate any longer. She had 2 thick socks on and skates were tied properly. They just need to offer some type of foam boot to put in the scates so its not just hard plastic.
I’ve been here before, and it was fine. But this time was pretty terrible. First of all, their website said the public skating hours for today (Sunday, August 5th) were 1-2:45, and then 2:45-4 I think. But, imagine our surprise when we get there and the front desk clerk tells us there’s a hockey game going on the whole day! This hockey game is nowhere on their website. So we leave with barely a halfhearted “sorry” from the front desk clerk.Overall it’s a okay ice rink, but I don’t think we’ll be back.
Ive started my son at age 7 in the cross Ice program. He loves it and the coaching is great. hes in his second year and has seen great improvements..
Great place for a hockey game. Didnt serve coke so I was a little disappointed and the drinks were too high but it is a really nice place.
Very great service and very clean! Great place to skate and to eat. 10/10 place.
Great place. If you want to skate a lot yearly passes are available. They have great learn to skate programs that are priced well too. They also House a youth in house hockey program as well as adult leagues. All non checking. The Springfield Spirt youth travel hockey team practices and plays here as well as the Missouri State University Ice Bears. They have figure skating programs as well. Any Bears games can be found on the Bears website and are a great cheap night of action packed fun. Only during season of course. The only thing that could use improvement are a place to actually secure items while public skating and a more consistent schedule. Even during the summer when hockey season is non existent accept in house the stick and pucks, drop ins and public skates change all the time. Don’t plan on having a set night to practice unless you are in a program. They also can and should place a guard to stop baseball and Shriners from parking illegally, but seldom do. Making parking an issue. I actually check the baseball schedule to determine if I will have parking before leaving the house. Home games you might have to pay five bucks for the garage. Which is a bummer as it’s all to easy to prevent. Over all being apart of the Spirit travel hockey and seeing many rinks around the state this one is pretty top notch.
Super fun place to hang out with friends! Good prices and nice long sessions!
Im going to start this out by saying Im from Minnesota and have skated since I could walk. The ice wasnt bad to be honest just a little tore up from alot of use. The rental skates were average however the sharpening job was laughable
Great place to go skate or watch the icw bears or springfield express.
Its fun watching the kids learn to ice skate. Lol
Had a great time. Staff was incredibly friendly to our children. Wish lockers werent broken.
I was at a birthday party this past weekend. Horrible customer service. The girls at the front desk were absolutely rude when I asked them where to go(I had never been in the facility before.) Doesnt look like I will be returning there for anything. Sad but the young people doesnt look like they enjoy their job very much. Im very disappointed in myself for not getting any names!
My first time being here in ten years and it brought back such fun memories!
I love hockey and most the employees here, but I’ve never skated at a rink where....1: the pro shop is closed at random hours during men’s league games (ex: I tried to get my skates sharpened at 6:47 pm and the girl working said they were just closing) 6:47, really?2: the men’s league has you sign up individually, not as a team and conducts a pointless draft. Then the director will edit teams throughout the season to make the teams “fair”.When I came here there were 3 leagues with ten teams each and about 10-15 players/team.It’s now down to two leagues, 6 teams and maybe 9 players/ team.Jeeze I wonder why nobody signs up!ALLOW US TO SIGN UP AS TEAMS, like every other f****** Men’s league rinks! Plus that way we can have creative, funny team names with jerseys since the team will carry onto another session.
The people were awesome for (first time) skaters like myself. Lol And it was a blast of fun and excitement!
My grandson loves hockey. His practices are here and they got to participate in activities in St. Louis.
Springfield Mo. Ice Skating Ring fair pricing lots of fun!!
This place is a lot of fun, they have two rinks, different activities all of the time and a great pro shop.
I love this place wish I came here more no problems even the food better is good
My first time every ice skating was there and I had a great experience the workers were very nice and ice skating is surprisingly easy I would definitely recommend going with friends or family heck you could go by yourself and have a blast
Great rink, friendly staff. Only improvement would be locks on the lockers, for rent or for free would be fine either way.
First visit... will definitely go back.
A great family friendly place where you can enjoy watching a game of hockey, play hockey or ice skate yourself.
Our family loves watching Missouri State hockey. Ice skating is available, great place to have a birthday celebration as well.
The rink is nice if you have your own skates. They ran out of rental skates and when I finally got some they were broken.
Great for an inexpensive date night! $6 admission and $2.50 for skates. Concession stand available as well.
A great place for a date night a good hockey game or just skating with the family
Great place to nice skate or catch a Bears game!
Fun place to take the kids and great instructors for young kids and individual lessons.
Neat place but what was advertised was not what took place.
I dont know a lot about ice skating but compared to a few I went to in Michigan I thought it was a great skating rink
Cold but fun!! The girls had a blast Ice Skating!!
I have been today at this park, and faced a hard time when I asked for a refund after 5min from the time of the transaction. The seller claimed that she initially asked me whether I want a copy of receipt or not, which she did not do so. And after waiting 10 min for her supervisor, her supervisor said we cant help you with a refund but we can give you free admission for a future visit which I am not interested with. Since Dec 25th, the problem has not been solved. I have left two voice messages for the director and no reply so far.
A great play to hit the ice or take in some hockey.
Very chilly inside, warm clothes necessary. Cheaper tickets for MSU students, or any other students.
This is a cool amenity for Springfield, especially if you are a hockey fan !
Parking an a issue insides nice two level an clean
Hockey is my favorite sport. I love it at the Mediacom Rink !!!
If I could rate a negative amount of stars I would. They were all extremely rude and we paid without realizing the session would end in 10 minutes (no one told us) so we only got to be on the ice for 8 minutes and they wouldnt allow us to stay for the next session or give us a refund.
Friendly staff. a safe fun place for family
Great price and good ice.
Lots of laughs and plenty of bruises, staff was very helpful to first timers
Size 15 is the biggest they rent! So beware, fellow squatches.
Go Ice Bears!! Great hockey! What the puck?!?
Great place for a date or an outing with kids!
It was small! In the section I was sitting we were smashed together!
My kids loves being here even when its freezing or burning outside.
Fun place everytime
I want to vore Jordan Valley Ice Park
My son is on a travel hockey team and this facility ranks high in quality compared to several rinks in the Midwest we visit.
Great facility for the Springfield community!
Great experience and awesome value
Always clean, helpful employees, and supports the environment
Excellent hockey arena
Its cool
Go Express!
Fun
I go for the park, water and trail
