We are so glad we stopped in. Truly a very nice museum with informative artifacts and collections from the various wars. The location is off the beaten path but its absolutely worth it. Our 3 kids were engaged and asked interesting questions about each exhibit. The museum is continuing to expand and add new items. Excited to support this museum and our veterans who take the time to engage with students in educational workshops and tours.
Very informative museum! Only takes small donations!
This is an excellent museum, with many unique and one of a kind artifacts on display, right now they have a fantastic exhibit on WW I. A must see when youre in the area .
Very cool chronology of war with uniforms, weapons, maps and more on display. Outside, there are some planes, helicopters, howitzers.
I enjoyed this museum. It begins from the 1700 to the 2000s. Its a nice look back of the Illinois NG and where and what they did It takes any where from 15 minutes to over an hour to go through. Just depends on what youre interested in reading about
Great museum and awesome hosts for the 29th anniversary of the end of Operation Desert Storm.
Good place to visit. It puts everything in perspective as to what our history of our military had sacrificed
The Illinois Military Museum is very intriguing with its many displays. The arrangements range from several different time periods of American Military action, including: WW-1, WW-2, Vietnam, Korean Conflict, etc.. The exhibits are nicely designed, and the smaller objects have a number guide to Help you identify them if you are unfamiliar with any objects. There is a wide selection of hand guns in the displays with different years of uniforms. I would highly suggest taking the time to browse the exhibits.
It was a very interested museum. More interesting if you go with someone who has knowledge about military guns and vehicles. Went specifically to see Santa Annas artificial leg, but they had moved it into storage. Was very disappointed about this. Still an interesting museum.
If you love history this is a place to see. Very good time.
Small museum with interesting stuff. Santa Annas leg is put away.
Smaller museum of Illinois military history, however it is really worth stopping to see.
This place keeps the sacrifice our vets pay for our freedom alive and pays homage to what they pay for our freedoms of life liberty and what we believe in even if they dont agree with with what we say.
Great hidden museum. Nicely put together but you wont find it without directions
Nice place.
Great people they run a fantastic great war encampment
Great museum. A excellent place to see some military history.
Amazing, great experience and many things to learn, wax/facts/guns upstairs i love it
Was a great little exhibit! Easy to walk around and everything is marked to tell the story of each era!
Free!!! Small, but good displays. Sadly Santa Anas leg is in storage right now to preserve it, but we were told it should be out in a couple of years.
This was cool great place for illinois history
Lovely, detailed museum! History well-preserved!
Great selection of historical and modern military equipment weapons and uniforms
Great little museum full of amazing artifacts and even better stories.
Had a grand time at the WWI event as usual, thanks for your services to all who was there to assist us the reactors.
Nice museum. Free.
Very nice. Lots of useful information.
Small but very well organized, dont miss Santa Anas false leg. Mannequins were not creepy which is often hard
Great place to go! Donations accepted.
This is a small but very well layed out museum. Worth the trip, really enjoyed it.
Kinda cool, but I didnt get to see Santa Anas leg!!!!
Simon friendly staff good history and great layout I support our troops just saying people need to see this stuff then maybe they would respect our troops and veterans a little more.
Hidden gem of the museums in Springfield. I toured with a school group and got the deluxe tour with living historians, but any visitor can appreciate the unbelievable artifacts from decades and campaigns. I would recommend this to anyone interested in Illinois involvement in war.
Very interesting. I had never seen a colt rifle with a cylinder. Informative, friendly volunteers as guides.
This was my first time there so Im not sure what the experience would be like under normal circumstances but The world war I encampment was very interesting especially given such a small space to do it. They fired small arms blanks in whats essentially a residential neighborhood lol. The multitude of different army uniforms and equipment was very fascinating. There were many very knowledgeable participants. The museum itself is small but had great displays inside and a handfull of very neat military vehicle displays. Great experience! Check it out its free!
Love to see military vehicles.
It is something to see if your in the area but only when they have Santa Annas leg out for show. Last time I went it was sadly in storage.
Very informative.
The Leg was so thicccc
Great military history museum. It is small but free. Lots of exhibits to see and they are laid out by conflict. We spent about a hour here.
Perhaps one of Springfields best kept secrets. This museum displays a unique piece of Illinois history.
Small but very interesting and the gentleman there was very nice and informative.
Volunteers will answer any questions and give fun facts. They have the complete dress uniform of Audie Murphy which includes a Medal of Honor.
Real nice collection. Staff was really nice and had lots of friendly information. My son got a dog tag made on an original 50s machine. Displays from many wars.
Wonderful historic place to visit.
A hidden gem. The museum tells the story of the Army and Air Guard in Illinois. Many exhibits are physical recreations where the Guard deployed to help the community or be a part of a battle.
Really enjoyed going here. Very nice staff.
Great info provided to school aged kids. Stations and uniforms added to experience.
Very cool history from the wars from the civil war to the war on terror.
Children LOVE the museum. If you either love history of weapons and wars, or your children have an odd fascination with weaponry, this is a good place for you.
Small museum, sweet people, neat items. Could use extra stuff to keep retention time longer.
Lots to see and do. My boys love it, lots of hands on stuff, and its not so big you have to worry about someone getting lost. We love it.
In a city of museums this gem often goes overlooked. Well worth the time to immerse yourself in the miltary history of Illinois
Outstanding
Nice place to go. But the alarms are a little touchy.
Great museum. They have reenactments a few times a year also
This is a small museum but full of great things.
Well done displays. Nice people there.
Small but comfortable child friendly museum.
Pleasantly surprised at the amount of information available in exhibits covering all major wars and Illinois military involvements.
