I am a new resident of Springfield. And while attending a fitness event hosted by the Black Chamber of Commerce. I walked through Bicentennial Park. The plaza is absolutely beautiful!!!! And most importantly showcases the history regarding housing and other inequality issues that Springfield has played a significant role. I had no idea that Civil rights activists Frederick Douglass actually gave a speech at the old Capitol in Springfield in 1866. I hope more and more people take advantage of this important space.
Beautiful view of downtown Springfield, including the Capitol Building, the Governors Mansion, and green space across the street. Also has reminders of Springfield history to guide around the plaza.
