Great late season condition. Fairways & tee boxes are in excellent shape. Greens were just aerated, but not bad overall.

This golf course is challenging but very enjoyable to play. The prices are very reasonable for a round of golf and for balls at the range.

I used the driving range. Well managed and reasonably priced. All grass in great shape with enough targets to vary your aim points. Reasonably spacious tee boxes rotated to keep grass playable. Faces west so late evening can be challenging.

One of my favorite RTJ Sr. layouts - its aged better than most of his work. The hole corridors are pretty wide and playable and the greens are excellent. Its only drawback is that its not overly long from the back tees.

The course is pretty nice. They have the best burger I have ever had at a golf course. Huge and juicy for $5. Full bar is nice too.

In excellent shape. Except for a few bunkers. Greens, fairways and tees are outstanding.

Been going to The Rail with a group for 19yrs now. Always loved the layout of the course. Not too tough and not easy either, with some great risk reward holes. Course is not in the same condition as it was when the State Farm Classic was there, but the important parts are still in good shape, fairways greens and tee boxes. Staff in the pro shop are always nice and receptive to our group. Looking forward to many more years of playing up in Springfield.

Pleasant workers. Interesting course. Divots in the fairways arent repaired by golfers or maintenance crews. The tee boxes are heavily damaged and there is no sand box at the tee or on the cart to do any maintenance. The golfers who play this course dont do any repair of dimples in the greens. But then the greens are very hard and balls landing dont react as you would expect. They roll forever. These greens need aeration and infusion of sand badly.

If I could choose one golf course for our retirement group to play all the time, It would be this golf course. The course is challenging but fair. Good mix of holes with water and appropriate amount of sand traps.

Very poor condition. Breaks your heart to see the decline in this course. The bunkers have been ignored and are horrendous. No shape anymore, very little sand and contain a lot of standing water. Ponds are full of algae and smell bad. Tees and fairways were fine and greens were ok also, albeit extremely slow. Loud gas carts complete the picture of a sad state of affairs.

I absolutely love this course, it is somewhat scenic, and difficult. It is a longer course so have your irons/hybrids ready. Even witnessed a hole-in-one on of the par-3 holes. The course was in magnificent shape, and the staff was real friendly. We visited at the beginning of the year, we do our season kick-off there. Our moms best friend, and our best friend loved the course and has volunteered during the LPGAs tenure there, so its an in memorium for us.

Nice, well kept golf course. The course is fairly flat, though, so if you like a lot of elevation changes, it may not be for you.

I spent over a thousand dollars for a season pass. It wasnt worth it, It is not a well drained course, if it rains you will be playing constantly out of little ponds.I was told when I bought the pass, the course would open at 5.30 in the morning. This was important to me, I play early because of my problems with the heat and sun. It was never opened on time, it always opened late.I always want to play 18 holes but I always ended up playing a rushed 9 holes because of league play or an outing. I wasnt told all this when I bought the pass,I figure it will cost me about 80 dollars for each round. The course isnt that great. Ive played all the courses in Decatur, I would recommend them over the Rail.
