I’ve played here a handful of times. The course is great, greens are fast. BUT on Saturday when i played at 10AM the round took 5 1/2 HOURS. The pace of play is unimaginative. The people behind us were pressing and angry, until they saw there were 3 groups ahead of us all congested on 2 holes. I got to watch the group in front of me TEE OFF ON EVERY HOLE (all 4 players). I saw one marshall on Hole 1, never saw him again he sat there all day.
The course is great but incredibly poorly managed. I stopped playing golf a few years ago because I was tired of slow players and the round taking up my whole day. I shoot in the low 80s so you’d think for $200 for 2 people they’d manage it properly. They book too many people and I never saw a Marshall the entire time. No one manages pace of play and it turns a normal round into a 6 hour ordeal. We were waiting 20 minutes to hit at each of the many par 3’s. It’s not like it was two of us. We were a foursome and so was everyone else. They cram too many people onto the course and don’t manage the pace of play except at the starting tee. I don’t have time to be spending my entire morning and afternoon playing so I will not be back. Very disappointed since I’ve heard such great things about the traditions course
Great service, great prices, great layouts, what more can a fella ask for? They always took great care of me when I reached out on Facebook to see about prices and rentals they replied super quick! They are awesome! Love this course a lot and I would highly recommend it if you are in the area or live nearby!!!
Terrible customer service. Course is beautiful but you get tired of it after being there for 6 hours!!! Why over book a golf course and risk getting ripped on reviews? One negative review will affect 200 people who will miss playing your course. I do not recommend this course on weekends unless it’s before 5AM! Terrible.
Really nice golf course, but they book their tee times 8 minutes apart. We gave up after 15 holes because we had spent over 5 hours on the course. If you are going to charge $80+ for a round then you shouldnt pack the course and make it a 6 hour round. You can find equivalent course without the time investment. Will not be returning
Tradition Course is secluded in the woods tucked off even more than the Cypresswood course. You will forget you are minutes from the busy city. The beverage cart passed serval times. The greens were rolling well, the fairways were cut well and the pace of play was very comfortable on a Sunday. The starter was informative and hospitable. Its a bit of a ride from the Medical Center area but a very good round of golf.
Im definitely coming back!Last time I was here was 10 yrs ago when I was practicing for my HS golf team. Its nice to be back and see that it looks almost the same (the building that was in the entrance is gone) but the courses looks amazing after that many year.
Played the Tradition course, which was challenging and long. Best fairways and greens Ive played during this time of the season (September 2020). You wont be disappointed. My only gripe is, the carts Plexiglas glass are not being clean down from the dirt to have a clear view in front.
I have taken golf classes here with Mr. Tirrel Baymon. Mr. Baymon does an excellent job breaking down the mechanics of the swing for any beginner to understand. From beginner to your avid golfer this is a great place to golf.
Played this course many times and it is great. Were holding one of our monthly tournaments at this course soon and working with the team has been excellent. Cant wait for the Cinderella Story Tournament coming up as well, looks like its going to be a blast.
Played both The Tradition and Cypress courses in the span of a week. Loved them both! Courses were in excellent shape. Staff was very welcoming. Will play Cypresswood next time I am in the area. Thanks for a great experience!
Loved the traditions course. Very tough and the greens are in good shape.
Awesome course, love the layout, and it’s well-kept. But they desperately need a couple of Marshalls on tradition course. Took my friend and I five hours to play last Saturday!!
The introduction to golf lessons are very informative. The instructors are great and helpful. Im going to get a membership once I finish the lessons. I would highly recommend the introduction to golf lessons.
Great golf course, plush fairways, excellent greens., somewhat challenging.will definitely play more often.
Pace of Play is terrible.! Customer Service is poor. Needs better management.
5 hour round yesterday on Tradition. Called on 3 to ask for a marshal and was told “Saturday is busy”, I should expect slow play and no marshal on duty due to short staff. Don’t use 7 minute intervals if you won’t marshal. Slow play is the result of golfers who can’t keep pace and courses that allow it. And, 2nd Saturday where range ball machine was empty. Never again!
Course in great shape, enjoyed playing with our guest from Virginia and my brother, Ruben
Great bang for your buck value. Great golf pros on staff to help you improve your game. Family orientated course that is constantly working to improve the conditions and golfer experience.
Nicely kept course, open enough to be forgiving but hazards can at some fun challenge. Would recommend for a fun afternoon.
Greens are running great. Always maintained well... courteous staff.
I played the Cypress course. Nice course and great value. I took a star off because they dont have a proper clubhouse. I like to have the option to get some food or drinks after playing.
I played The Tradition a couple of weeks ago, and it was in decent shape and think its good value for what you pay. Would play again!
Cypresswood Golf Course in Houston is endangering its clients by forcing them to ride two to a cart when playing golf. According to the staff, this is mandatory. There are no other options. I am 68 and in the high-risk group. This seems extremely irresponsible when you consider the fact that Corona infections are currently surging in Houston. All other area courses with which I am familiar actually require clients to ride one to a cart to maintain social distancing.
Played the traditions and loved the fairway and tee box conditions and the course layout. Greens recently punched, so it will be a couple weeks before they are back to great.
My home course. The difficulty is just right for average golfer. And I actually like the one-cart per person policy right now. Easier, faster.
Played 18 on Cypress and Tradition, the last time i played this course was back in 2011. This course has come so far since the last time I played a round. For winter conditions this course was very nice. The fairways were in great shape, all 18 greens were firm and rolled nice. I normally play the high end private courses around the Houston area, I must say that this course is just as good as the high end private courses. Other then the slow pace of play, these courses are great.
I love playing this course. Staff are friendly and the course is in great shape despite the greens recently getting aerated.
Played Tradition on 5/6/2020. It was in the best condition I have seen since Hurricane Harvey came through. Only thing that needs work are the bunkers... My group started @ 4:20 and still finished. $40 for that course is an absolute steal.Ill be back soon.
Played both courses, they were both excellent and a great value!
After the pandemic, Cypresswood was one of the safest golf courses in the area. They removed all the rakes, did the check in through a window without requiring people to go inside, had inserts in the cups, had everyone wearing masks, enabled touch less payment, etc. Unfortunately, they have done away with all of these safety measures, despite the current increase in new cases and new hospitalizations. This makes no sense.
Awful service- rude to customers in the pro shop, least accommodating golf course in the area.Pushed my tee time back without notice and paired us with another group even though the website confirmed it would be a tee time for two. I left on the spot after hearing this.
They had just aerated the greens. Was not informed of this before booking our tee time, or offered a discount because of it. I think that breaks the gentlemen code of golf if you will. This is not a cheap course to play. When I pay that much, I expect quality.
Highly recommend! Excellent service golf course in good condition senior discount over age 60 no hassles or problems went off as scheduled great time but note we played on a Friday morning so weekends could be more problematic!
The Cypress course is in good shape and great value for the money. Highly recommend for anyone living in Spring area.
Course in excellent shape. What is plan for a new clubhouse?
Played at 3pm on a Tuesday. Very light crowd. Course was in good shape.
COVID Heads Up: after playing 3 previous rounds and allowed my own cart during COVID, I was told today that I needed to share a cart. After sharing that I had an immunocompromised family member, they begrudgingly let me pay an extra $15 for my own cart. Like they were doing my a favor.
Played Traditions for the first time since the flooding over two years ago. Heard that something happened to their greens recently but as good as they were when I played them I couldn’t tell. The greens rolled great. Fairways looked very good as well. Overall I think Cypresswood has been back for awhile now, good for them, Traditions is a great course.
Great course and of couse the main attraction, the alligator in the pond, lots of green and love the tree with all of its birds singing.
I got rained out on my last 9 and instead of the pro shop telling me I can come tommorow to get my rain check. They decided to tell me I had to walk in the pouring rain to get my rain check. Course is beautiful but they dont have golf ethic at all!!!!
Utilized the driving range - it was pretty good and not overly costly. Good experience!! I will be back!!
Came with my family and an out of town guest for a round of golf. Never had played here before but the starter on number one was extremely friendly and gave us some pretty solid tips. Aside from that, the course was in great shape. Having rained really hard the two prior days we were surprised at how well it drained and how dry the course was. Would recommend to a friend and will definitely come back when I am on the north side again.
I played the Cypress course on Saturday and it was in great condition. The fairways were nice and the greens rolled true. The staff was polite and helpful. And it the cart girl made around to us 3 times during the round. It was a very muggy morning. Im so glad to see this course come back from Harvey. What a value for the Cypress course! I cant wait to play the Traditions. Its definitely the tougher of the two tracks.
Beautiful course, fast greens.
Tried using the 22 and under discount on Labor Day. I was told this deal was unavailable during holidays. I went back and checked the website and it clearly states that the deal is still in affect on holidays. Tried contacting the front desk and was hung up on multiple times.
Amazing course. What a deal!
It was a wonderful place, I had a great time
It was a wonderful place, I had a great time
Great golf course, even on a windy day the course was straight forward and fair. Beautiful scenery, the greens were smooth and fast, but fair.
Both courses are typically in good shape.Courses don’t drain well after rain.Expect slow play and 4.5 hour round even on non-busy days (golfers that play here take excessively long).
Excellent scenery and service. Very laid-back. Unfortunately Harvey in 2017 virtually wiped out the place, destroying all the buildings and ruining the course. However, since then they’ve maid an *almost* full recovery. Easily competes even with River Plantation.
Well cared for and wonderful course. costs are very reasonable and the staff are friendly and helpful throughout
Played Cypress course. Unfortunately it was like a swamp. I was surprised on the amount of water on the course after two days of no rain. The track looks like it could be a good one but really did not get a chance to enjoy it due to dancing around water all day.
Golf course is in great shape
I initially came to Cypresswood to learn how to play golf. Cypresswood offers golf lessons. I had zero understanding and Tirrel Baymon has been an amazing instructor. The staff is nice and helpful. I will continue to visit Cypresswood Golf Club.
My first golf lesson was fun! Friendly atmosphere and staff. Clean golf course. Recommend trying them if you havent.
Top notch layout.
Great value for the money. No club house and old facilities, but carts were good and Tradition Course was awesome! Pre-qualifier for Shell Open was going on while I played.
Both courses are amazing! Must play! Now that it is summer they have cold ice towels on the course and on driving range. Highly recommend.
Poor shape needs work
This is best golf course (that public can play) in Houston! Course is in fantastic shape. Finished my round in 3:55 despite playing behind a fivesome. Staff always friendly and helpful. Free hotdog and chips was nice touch, too!
Great place to play... the staff is really great, friendly and helpful.. the you get what you pay for, well at cypresswood you get more than what you pay for...
Fantastic place to play. Nice staff, well-maintained (played the Cypress course) and quick, steady pace. Highly recommended.
Great courses they have two, greens are as good as it gets.
Best public golf course in Houston.Staff members are very friendly and professional.I have made this my 2nd home 15 years ago.Keep up the great work Guys and Gals!
Played Cypresswood 10/27/19 (Tradition) and the course is in great shape- Green Fee under $70 and the greens and fairways are in excellent condiotion!!
Great Pro-shop people & Marshall. After the storm (my Kingwood Club is a river) this club was open for play & was nearby. The greens were - surprisingly - in great shape & the fairways - with only some soggy patches - so the round was pretty good (42 for 9).The bunkers were a washout which probably explains the dead perch in the picture below, as well as all the slippery, clay-like, mud covering the cart paths & near some of the greens.9 holes took 2 hours, 20+minutes due to a stubborn & poor-playing 5-some that wouldn’t wave me through AND - remarkably - slowed things more by splitting into a 3-some & 2-some on the 1st Pär 3. (That’s a new one on me!)The Pro-shop’s Manager - Chip - credited me half & was as surprised as was I.I’ll go back when things dry (I’ve played this club many times).
Great place to go
Very nice and so green àbsolutely beautiful place
Very nice course to play. Friendly staff . Greens were in very good condition.
Both courses are fun and well kept... Enjoy, price is ok too
For the weekend green fee price I was a little disappointed in the greens.l today. Hopefully they will fix them soon. First time we have been unhappy about this here because normally the greens are really nice. Pace of play waa good.
Not worth the price paid. The greens are in horrible condition, the starter told us that the greens got infected with a fungus after reopening in 2018, there were several greens with very large portions with no grass. The tee boxes were also in bad shape, although the layout of the course is good and challenging. It’s clear that it was once a good course, but the price should be adjusted to the current condition.
Nice club. Makeshift clubhouse is better than some permanent clubhouses (they lost their clubhouse in Harvey I believe). Very nice course. Friendly staff.
Good golf course that has done a lot of work to come back from the damage caused by Harvey. Still needs some work, but they will get there. Price is fair with good senior discount.
Best conditioned course in Houston right now. Will be back to play again soon.
Really love this track. Unfortunately couldnt finish the round for heavy rain. The staff and services were great. Good people and very Texas friendly. 5 stars
Place needs some serious work.First off I called early in the week and specifically asked about playing all 36 holes. I showed up 4 days later to be told only the front 9 of Traditions was available since they punched the greens. The clubhouse is 4 trailers put together with no bar and only beer and premade food. The front 9 of Traditions was in decent shape but the greens were clearly in bad shape with poor sod jobs that were completely uneven. Layout was challenging and wished it was better shape.I then played the other 18 and couldnt believe how bad the greens were! Seriously, some greens were completely dead. Course was unkempt and tee boxes had crab grass patches that were a foot tall. Bunkers were a mess and hadnt been raked in days.
Great course, challenging. Must try.
A good option in north Houston. Definitely worth a visit if you can get on for around $50 or so.
Traditions is a nice course and if you are looking for lessons this is the place to go.
Beautiful course. Serene place to get enraged at your game.
Its ridiculous that they charge based on what the course was in years past. It needs to be shut down and re done. Or maybe closed for good because it does not drain at all and the greens a very much disease ridden.
This place made you feel like part of the family! Great horses and not boring at all. There were challenges along the way and everyone loved it. Will be coming back
A great place to play a round of golf with your choice of two different golf courses. The Cypress course which is the lesser quality course and cheaper course provides a good variety of holes but may require a watchful eye due to the tight layout. The Tradition course while nicer has suffered a little from Hurricane Harvey but still presents itself nicely considering.
Greens need some attention.
My home course. Service is usually great. Tradition is in great shape. I will revisit this review in a couple months. There are some matters that need taking care of but I realize they just reopened and need some time to get things smoothed out. Come out and play a round. One if the best golf values around.
Cypresswood Golf Club is home to two 18-hole championship layouts: the generally higher-rated Tradition course and the also enjoyable Cypress course. The Tradition course is a well-rated and pleasantly testing layout. This tree-lined parkland course should not disappoint, with many attractive features and several excellent holes to enjoy. One to include on your play list if you are in the area.
Traditions back in great shape! Well worth the money. 2nd course greens are great but the boxes not so much. Hence the $20 difference. Pay the extra you will be glad you did.
