I am from out of town and Im not crazy about Sherman. Im not crazy about this area at all. But I love Herman Baker Park. The scenery is beautiful, with a lake, a creek, and a variety of different types of trees, including the bois d arc, distinguishable by its large, twisted roots. There are public restrooms and several picnic tables, as well as a large green grassy hill resembling a dam that is perfect for rolling down and, I imagine, sledding down when it snows. I have bot had a chance to walk to see where it leads. The trail through the woods is awesome. It leads to a bridge over the creek, which is really pretty. There are many ways to go and explore. Some lead to anyone cliffs overlooking the creek and lake. One leads to a peninsula that would be a perfect place for a picnic. The woods are shady and lovely, and the tree roots on the trails form steps. I havent had a chance to explore as much as I would like but what I have seen is one of the best hiking trails Ive been on in north or east Texas.
Great talking trail loop. Beautiful lake to look at. The north shore is hard to fish from but a good spot to launch a canoe. The south shore has some cliffs and clear eater but the fish are wise to the bait and will look but generally not bite.
Gorgeous park. Beautiful lake and lots of ducks and geese. Wonderful bike route and walking trails. Big hills that the chilren( and adults) Love taking cardboard and sliding down the hill. The laughter heard from the kids make me smile!
Its always so beautiful. Picnic tables. Hiking trails. Has a bathroom that is maintained. Ducks, fishing, crawdads, beautiful spot for pictures, wonderful dog walking trail, everyone is very friendly. Parking is limited but usually enough.
Love this park! Brought some bread for some ducks and there were several ducks there to feed that were eager to accept! Really well landscaped park with several park tables and benches. Took my kids here to feed the ducks which is such a joy to feed animals and even more joy that I didnt waste the bread that we had too much of and couldnt eat before going bad. So we were happy to pay it forward to the beautiful ducks. Only one lone white duck besides the other flock of other ducks that all looked alike. My daughter named the white duck, Freddie She was naming them, Carl, Nellie was one I picked and one other one Bob lol Anyways, a great time and fun to share a space with a living animal without having to wear a mask! Enjoy!
The hiking trail is very authentic, watch for snakes! Gorgeous tree canopy. At minimum, wear real shoes and long pants. Bike trail and mounds look fun if thats your thing.
Not too busy during the week, which is nice. Theres a trail that wraps around the pond. Some ppl fish a lil here... it gets packed during the weekend and when they have kids playing some sports down in front field. Its fine enough to get in a quick hours walk around.
Great park. Well maintained greenways, good for kites, drones, and frisbee. They have walking and bike trails with accessible testrooms. The walking trails are not wheelchair accessible.
Tbis park is so pretty! Really a hidden gem if you dont know about it. I just recently learned about it having done a family photo shoot today. It has a pretty lake view. Its great to have a nice little family picnic or if you want to leave the kids at home and it just be you and your significant other.
September 2020- Beautiful wild flowers along the trail, weather was cool, and paths well maintained. Would highly recommend for a trail run.
This park is beautiful!Sunday afternoon, Sept. 2020 Beautiful, but today, very crowded by non-masked people, so I never got out of my vehicle.
Picnic in the park. Great view lots of birds. Shady picnic tables. Lots to love about this park.
Great trails and a place to feel like you went on a trip away from Sherman.
Enjoyed kayaking here! No rentals so you have to bring your own and theres no parking convenient to the water for putting in. A lot of undergrowth in the water but on this day the water was like glass!
Beautiful park that I will definitely be back to! I was looking for a place near DFW that had a decent hiking trail, and decided to check out Herman Baker Park. Navigating to the park is pretty easy, and there is parking available. There are a couple picnic tables right by the lake, and most are shaded by trees. The trail was easy-moderate, not particularly challenging if you dont have any mobility problems. There are benches located along the trail, so you can take breaks if needed. Even though the park is less than an hour away from DFW, you can still enjoy the feeling of getting away from the hustle and bustle because the trail was so serene and peaceful.
Though it was my first time visiting this park I very much enjoyed my experience there. Benches are scattered around the trail, so taking a break is really easy. I also noticed a lot of flowers along the way, very beautiful. They smell nice as well. As you can tell from my pictures there a plenty of places to take pictures of the scenery or with your companions.I would highly recommend this park for a quick walk or a workout.
Love this park! So peaceful and relaxing. Always have a great adventure with the boys when I come.
October/November perfect time for park weather!
Great place to bring the fur babies. Lovely trails with a peaceful atmosphere. Definitely easier trails than most places I hike. I like to go here for enjoyment rather than a “hiking” experience.
We took photos and the trees are just great right now
Lots of fun to roll down the hill. Cardboard makes it a better trip down.
Pretty little park/pond tucked away in Sherman. Beautiful hills, and pond, havent gotten to the trails yet but I hear they are good also! Still havent caught anything fishing wise though.
The trails here are super nice and well maintained. The fishing is really good too.
Awesome trail around the lake.
Nice quite place to hang with the family.
Its a great place to walk the dogs. They get plenty of exercise, and with the benches throughout the trail we can take frequent brakes. Most of the trail is shaded as well so you are not in full sun burning up; Plus there are multiple water access points to let them cool off or hydrate.
Beautiful recreation park for hiking, jogging, biking, fishing and picnics. Scenic lake and 1.7 mile loop trail (80% shaded).
My doggo love this park. He takes a while to get acclimated but that’s just because of his personality. He loves both the small and large parks. There are walking trails as well. Wonderful place.
Cool place for a hike and picnic
Great place to walk the trails.
Nice small place to walk
Its a nice park, had a great walking trail that you can walk your dogs and stuff. Along the trail there are fact boards about the trees and life in the park. A good place to go
Nice park. Ducks. Track. Picnic areas.
Decent trail with picnic tables and benches. Very beautiful. Not young child friendly
Good hiking trails, nice natural spring feed lake to fish in, picnic tables, clean indoor restrooms ...
Lots of trails to explore
Beautiful place to relax and take a walk.Always some trashy people who litter at all Parks.
Easy trail, pretty views and family friendly. Usually pretty clean with access to fishing.
Gotta love it
Lovely place I go to for walks and picnics.
Awesome place to get away. There is a 1.5 mile loop trail around Pikens Lake with plenty of scenic spots to enjoy. Perfect place for a picnic or just some quiet relaxation. There are tons of activities to explore including fishing, hiking, biking, running, and feeding the local ducks.
Love it I go out there to walk with my family
Love walking around and picking up trash its soooo soothing
Nice place to relax

I love walking their trails and the flowers were just an added bonus to a great walk that day!
Great place to bring the dog and walk the trails!
Nice trail. Couple steeper inclines. Easy to moderate.
I love that place! But be careful you can get turned around on the trails!
Always Great to just experience what Nature has to offer.
I love taking my kids here to fish, everything about this place is great, hiking, fishing or just a beautiful veiw! This place has it.
Nice. The grass tastes pretty good.
My dogs love it. I have dogs that arent exactly dog friendly and most people dont take their dog there so its nice. Much easier than a dog park.
This lake is amazing! I fish with friend regularly and love to just unwind and let the fish bite. The trails are great, but be very careful in remembering your turns as it is very easy to get lost. Dont fret as its not a huge lake so you will find your way around. There are two small bridges that will work great as a background (Instagram, facebook). Lots to explore and let your little ones get to know nature. There are plenty of ducks and different critters to teach your kids as well. I will be adding pictures during my next visit DISCLAIMER!! there are water snakes and snapping turtles. . . So keep an eye on your KIDS!!!
Great place to walk take your dog or just sit quietly. You can fish as well. No playground. There are ducks and currently goslings. There are also bike trails but they are dirt and more rough terrain than sidewalk type.
Nice park
Who can beat nature? Good trails.
I love that Park
Great nature walking trail!
Wonderful nature area. Perfect for hiking, picnic, maybe even kayaking.
I dont go there a lot so thats why its 3 stars
This place is a hidden gem. It appears out of nowhere. Its a huge pond with plentiful fields, picnic tables, shade trees, a public bathroom for males and females, and lots of hiking trails. A great place to bring kids and dogs.
Didnt see anyone lurking in the bushes
Ok
Outstanding small local city park. There is a tail through the trees round the whole lake (see my photos). The earth dam does provides kids and parents a place to slide down the back side using cardboard boxes - but Please take your used boxes and trash with you. Good for canoes, small boats (no mechanical power) and limited fishing. Has picnic tables and permanent restrooms.
Beautiful scenery, awesome hike, tons of animals. The lakes full of turtles, the beaches full of ducks and geese, and theres a trail leading to an islet thats in the middle of the lake. Not to mention the cliff with a bench on the opposite side of the lake from the entrance. Theres no reason not to go here. Well, unless you hate all things good about the world.
Fun to enjoy pic nice fishing and during winter when snow hits the hills, fun to sled down for the kids to get out of house with family
Me and my four dogs LOVE Herman Baker!! Such a beautiful park! Thank you to Austin College for the new additions and for helping us take care of our beautiful park!!
Nice park a little muddy today to hike. Will be back when it dries up.
The park is good
I just love this place! Its close to my house & is an excellent place to have a picnic or get exercise. Feeding the ducks & geese that inhabit Baker park is also festive.
Great place to walk the dogs and a fabulous place to mountain bike ride which connects to Binkley Park.
Was a good place to enjoy nature
Such a peaceful place to relax.
My favorite place to walk and relax for a while. Ive been visiting the park and feeding the ducks since I was a little girl
Clean part with running/walking trails. Has benches along the shoreline for watching nature.
Awesome trails, kayaking, fishing, hiking and biking! One of Shermans most serene and secluded parks. Try visiting on a snow day, and dont forget to bring your sleigh!
Beautiful place
We had a great time on the walk around the Lake.
This is a nice and quiet park. We have only been a few times, but we have caught some fish. There is quite a bit of dog feces everywhere, but that is part of the social gathering places nowadays.
Very beautiful and peaceful.
Quiet. Nice trail. Pretty lake.
Relaxation
Because,Billy fishes here,he comes to my house afterwards.
Nice place to relax, have caught Largemouth bass and Bream here clean walking trails and bathrooms..
Honestly, rain, shine, sleet, or snow, we come here to walk and unwind from the day two or three times a week. Always clean and always a blast.
