Saw lots of waterbirds, did a 4 mile loop on the Haller’s Haven trail. Trail was easy and well maintained and had wild flowers and butterflies We were able to walk along the shore of the Lake Texoma. There is an auto tour which is the nicely laid out so you can see a lot of birds from the car. Not sure why the southern part of a National wildlife Refuge is full of oil pumps.

Awesome place to visit with the family! Free entry, plus lots of neat places to explore. The trails are on the more rustic side so be more prepared for that. Our kids loved the bug life(and snake!)at the butterfly garden. Some of the less main roads are dirt but everything was passable in our minivan. Will definitely be coming back!

We had an awesome time driving around and walking around listening and looking at the birds, butterflies, flowers & the rest of the nature. This is a great way to get outdoors, sit, walk, fish etc. Oh right before you drive into the park is a trail on the right & up the hill was the most amazing hidden field of flowers youll see them in the pictures attached. The butterfly garden was also great by the visitor center. This is definitely a place to check out!

We had a great time here! The visitor center was closed due to COVID, but the butterfly garden was beautiful. We hiked one of the trails and it was nicely shaded so not too hot even on a 95 degree day. We took the driving tour; some of it was closed due to flooding, but we did see a lot different birds and scenery. Definitely worth the visit!

Been here several times over the past two years. Stunning lake Texoma scenery and great variety of wildlife. Unfortunately invasive feral hogs also call this place home. Though I have not seen any in broad daylight, I have heard several warning grunts and have seen one running in the distance while on the meadow pond trail. Though they aren’t outright aggressive, they’re not an animal I want to encounter. They aren’t pretty, they can charge (though uncommon), and they greatly damage the ecosystem. I would still highly recommend the meadow pond trail, just be aware of the hogs and stay on the trail. With a variety of habitats, several hikes, and lake Texoma coast, this place offers not only scenery, but also boasts a variety of wildlife. I have seen deer, roadrunners, snow geese, pelicans, snowy egrets, blue herons, white-tailed kite, diamond back water snake, killdeer, snapping turtle, gar, bold eagle, kestral, northern shoveler, night heron, and so much more.

Nice, well maintained hiking trails and bird watching are great things to do here. They also have free tram rides on the weekends and some presentations. Picnic areas and fishing. Visitor center is nice and clean with a nice gift shop. Snow geese are here now so lots of them to see along with many other birds; pelicans, herons, ducks and more. Short of a hidden gem. Not crowded.

Hagerman is a great place, even with having to kind of screen out the sight of pumpjacks at times. On the Central Flyway, it has plenty of waterbirds and others during migratory times. Eagles and other raptors are also drawn here. Easy walking and hiking trails take people near smaller ponds and into woods where many songbirds can be found. This is a spot for bluebirds, the vibrant prothonotary warbler and others.

Wonderfully maintained refuge near the Texas-Oklahoma border. Plenty of birding spots, including observation decks and photo blinds. Several hiking trails of different lengths/difficulties; some are partly paved. There’s fishing, kayaking, and picnic areas, too. Stop by the visitors center for maps, interactive displays, butterfly garden, or to borrow some binoculars; the also have a guided tour on weekends if you don’t want to do the self-guided auto tour.

Im concern of why you have jetta operating comAny doing drilling on a wildlife preserve. Now they split oil and it effected more then they said. Remember the oil spill in the gulf. It rained and I live done from your all it will effect us to. ThanksFor not telling people sooner . Or wildlife and livestock and our water is now effecting. And again how is drilling a part of natural wildlife... ? A woodpecker can drill safer

One of the best wildlife refuges in the US. Lots of birds (geese, Hawks, other shore birds) on their seasonal migration through north Texas. Museum is high quality and offers the story of how the refuge was originally started with lots of pictures. Well run with excellent volunteers. Be sure to ride the train around the refuge driven by a knowledgeable driver/guide. Only two trips a day, so need reservations.

I live near the Refuge and hike/explore it often. My two retrievers love it.The waters edge at Lake Texoma is easy access at several points. The historical Red River forms the lake behind the Dennison Dam.The Refuge management has maintained several walking paths of varying lengths up two 3 miles and more.Occasional flooding occurs when heavy rains blanket the huge watershed. The flood levels and water backups are amazing. The power of water never ceases to amaze me.To see any wildlife other than migratory bird flocks, you have to walk the trails at sunset when the fauna become active. There is just enough car traffic during the day to keep the animals bashful.Learn your animal poop and paw prints. By these you will know them.
