Awesome information to learn about coal mines in general. Very cool and perfect for a really hot day.They have a little gift shop that actually has many The Office items in it.They do tours every 30 minutes, but leave early if they are all booked. You should get there a half hour early for your tour because they might book up and youll have to wait even longer.The whole tour was great and it was very intriguing to learn some of these facts and lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes. :)

This is a fun little museum to tour. Its charming and quite but surprisingly large. The lady at the front desk was shocked to find two canadians drove to see this museum which was funny. A good stopping point between the Toronto GTA and New York City

While staying in Scranton for the weekend, myself and a few friends wanted to do the mine tour and to kill some time we stopped at the anthracite museum beforehand. Im very glad that we did so. The museum was very impressive, the interpretive displays and artifacts they had on hand were extremely informative and did a great job of portraying this crucial piece of history of this region. The best part however was the tour guide which was extremely helpful and willing to answer any questions that we had. We only had a short amount of time to tour the exhibits, and the guide was extremely accommodating and gave us a brief walk-through of some of the more notable pieces in the collection. She was also very knowledgeable and really knew the history well. Its not often that an area has such a great museum detailing their history in such a careful and meticulous way; the Anthracite Museum is certainly a great place to visit if you want to learn more about what powered the social and economic development in the region.

Honestly its ok. But very small. Our visit was slightly ruined by a young lad vacuuming so you could barely hear any audio on the video and displays. Plus it was just very annoying. They do have a discount if you have an ebt card which is great.

Great museum that details the history of Northeast Pennsylvania! It covers immigrant culture in addition to the nitty gritty of the anthracite coal mining industry. (Just an FYI looking at some other reviews, this is NOT the coal mine tour! It’s a much more in-depth historical museum! Go further up the hill and visit!!)

Excellent tour that details the history of the Anthracite coal miners and what they went through. This is a part of history that should never be forgotten. I go here at least 3 to 4 times a year. Also the coal mine tour is great.

We took our grandchildren here and everyone loved it.....the tour of the mine was very interesting, especially since my father was a miner before he joined the military..awesome experience!

My favorite part of the museum was the miniature model of the colliery cut open. Three stories high, all in wood. I can hardly imagine working in that environment. Would never be possible today under OSHA. But we never would have progressed as a nation like we did without it.It helped me better understand two generations of ancestors listed in the census as colliers.Very moving. You can feel the presence of the workers, proud of their efforts and contributions to that history.

Im an internet using 20 something and I really enjoyed this museum. Theres a lot of local history and cool things to be seen in here. Gift shop is a little too aimed at little kids and old ladies for my taste, but the information, my memories and photos are my souvenirs. Check out the coal sculptures. So cool.

Museum on it own is ok, tracks the history of coal mining and other industries in the area. but the power went out while I was there so I was unable to complete my visit. also the gift shop items were not really related to the theme of the museum.

My second time. A must for everyone to visit at least once. Every student should go and be taught about labor history. Our guide was a nice young man, very knowledgeable.

The staff couldnt have been nicer. The facility was bright, open, and inviting. Room after room brought the early days of Scranton and its environs to life. For those who forgot, or never understood why unions exist, the Anthracite Museum is a great reminder. I remain so proud that I come from such people. Each display is informative and moving. One of the better moments visiting my home town with my family. On leaving, we spied a sharp-shinned hawk perched in a tree just down the road, adding to this wonderful experience.

Fun for all ages and very educational. A true adventure worthy of a trip specificly planned to take advantage all the facility has to offer; rather than a I was just passing thru glance.

For a small museum focused on one not very popular topic, this place was very impressive.

There are nice displays and pictures in this museum detailing the history of this area and coal mining. My daughter really likes the fake saloon and church. They have a nice gift shop with a lot of coal mining and ethnic souvenirs.

A nice niche museum with very friendly staff and an old style charm. Start the tour by watching a history video on the coal industry (which is actually a VHS tape) and then tour three themed exhibits to learn about the coal mining industry. A nice way to spend an hour instead of hoping to get a spot on the coal mine tour.

Lots of interesting things to look at. Nice people working there. Spent a couple hours.

Great local museum. includes history of industrial revolution, immigration, the role of woman in WWII, awesome vintage machines and recreated rooms. definitely worth the visit!

I went in this museum with lower expectations and was positively surprised. Coal-mining was live and bread for the population in Scranton and surrounding areas. Here you learn about the history of immigrants coming there in hopes of a better live. Also of their struggles and how industrial revolution changed their lives. This museum is not to big nor to small and has a few of hands on exhibits. A nice flow through the open sections and you need no map to navigate. We learned something new and got great insides of people working around coal mining.

Outdated myseum, had a good bit to look at but many of the items were totally irrelevant and had no explanation.

I took my wife and kids here to learn about anthracite mining since my wife descends from anthracite miners. The museum has a lot of artifacts but it lacks a sense of continuity. Everything feels compartmentalized and displays are not connected to one another, so you basically learn about an aspect of coal mining or living in the coal region but not how it all fit together. We think they should reprogram the museum to follow events in peoples lives, but that might be difficult due to the artifacts that they have on hand. Either way, it wasnt as captivating as we hoped and we are history buffs. Plus, the cost to get in was high for what it was.
