Their summer circus was really neat. I was surprised how quickly it sold out. Youd want to buy tickets in advance/call ahead for tickets. The acts are all very professional. The clowns are super funny. The show as a whole felt a little short, but its worth the price for sure. Kids and adults will enjoy the summer circus show
My mom and I called the box office and got discounted day-of tickets for Sound of Music for $20 each. The seats were front row balcony, and our view of the stage was very good! The performance was spectacular. My favorite actors were Maria and Baroness Schrader. Their voices and acting talent were amazing. The creative liberty the director took with the transition to the the familys festival performance was so well done (no spoilers). I cant wait to see another show here!!
Beautiful beautiful theater! One of the most interesting and exquisite theaters I have personally ever been in. It’s quite extraordinary. The staff is super friendly and very kind. The young people working in the box office was also very helpful and friendly. The food as well as snack selection and drink selection was First class. If you have not been to this theater and you are in the Sarasota area I urge you to make a special trip here. You will not regret it!
It was fun and exciting. All of the actors were right on. The sets were fantastic, costuming, and timing, right on the .money.A most enjoyable evening. Thank you.
Murder on the orient Express was truly amazing. Theatre is comfortable and cozy. Any seat is a good seat there. Cant wait for next show
I have seen about 8 performances there over the past several years. All but one were EXCELLENT. Seats are comfortable but a bit cramped. Beautiful architecture.
The actors and actresses who performed in the Murder on the Orient Express play at the theater were incredible and so were the men and women working behind the scenes. Schools from across Manatee and Sarasota counties were at the edge of their seats from how immersive it was and at the end we all gave a standing ovation.
Gorgeous theater. We went for a school field trip and the performance was so wonderful. The director spoke and seemed so knowledgeable and kind. It was a great theater and I would really love to go see more shows
I gave this four stars because the seats were uncomfortable ( few surrounding people made remarks at intermission) and the lines were too long ~ so I didnt bother with the restroom nor counter. However, the theater is just gorgeous! Inside and out. Went for The Sound of Music performance and truly enjoyed the show!
Amazing. The theatre was much larger than I expected. The sets were comparable to Broadway with ample parking. I could see everything from my seat in the last row.
2nd visit, Broadway quality at 1/2 the price. Lifespan of a fact was impeccable. Cant remember what I saw last year, and while I thought it was only very good, the point is that the Asolo is worth the effort/ expense.
Cozy, intimate theater with a world class stage and sound. Saw Sound of Music there in 2019 - exceptional spot for a show.
Very entertaining and interesting play. excellent acting and directing. house accommodations very efficient and friendly.
This is a first class theatre for Sarasota. I belonged to the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and for a small City the Asolo is a good comparison.
The facilities are great. Just a couple things, for us to be there for the first time. We think the bar people should be better on comunicación. For example, on the beginning of the show, we went in with our drink. Then on the intermission of the show we went for another drink and the lady at the door said to us that the drink should be covered or have a lid? So how come she never said anything about it before? It was our first time in the theater. And we are a Sarasota residents well come back but we think they should improve the comunicación.
Beautiful building and grounds. Doesnt feel crowded even when full. Comfy seats and a good view all round.
We have been coming to tho Asolo for over 20 years and have always enjoyed the shows and the staff. However today the sugar was rude and uninformed. We attended the 2:00 show of Sound of Music. At 1:25 we went up to the Mezzanine level to wait for the doors to open. The usher promptly told me in no uncertain terms that they weren’t open yet, which I knew but I was just queuing up. She then, in a rude manner said they wouldn’t open up until 5 minutes until 2 and I couldn’t stand there. Rather than argue with her my wife and I walked back down to the first level. No sooner did we get down the steps than the doors opened, promptly at 1:30 as we knew they would. The attitude of this usher was not a nice way to start a day at the theater.
Had a wonderful time!! Saw the sound of music. Will b back
Lovely theater with elegant stadium style seating, so all seats have a great view, perhaps better than orchestra seating. We sat in the last row mezzanine, and it was perfect. Beautiful lobby seating on both levels. Takes stairs or elevator.
Wonderful performances in a turn of the century posh decor. Love it.
Show and sets very impressive, just like NY, with better prices and . Exllent acting!!!
The play DEAD MANS CELL PHONE was phenomenal.
Saw Murder on the Orient Express. Excellent production.
Absolutely wonderful theater. I enjoyed the show very much.
The Sound of Music was spectacular. I worked as a volunteer usher at the performance.
Each production is outstanding..beautiful theater and very friendly and helpful staff
Love this strong regional rep theater company. Excellent choices for material and actors that really involve you in their characters. Recently saw Dolls House Part 2 and enjoyed that- but was really blown away by their recent production of The Crucible.
Wonderful theater. Good acoustics and comfortable seating.
Outstanding quaint theatre. Its history is quite special. It was originally constructed in Scotland in 1901. It was later brought to Sarasota Florida by the Mertz family. It has all the charm and decor of European theaters. We are so fortunate to have many Broadway calibre shows offered here.
Fabulous production of The Music Man - as good or better than the many Broadway shows Ive seen! Exceptional cast, wonderful scenic design and lighting/sound design - and the CHOREOGRAPHY - Branch Woodman said it right, Why havent we ALWAYS had tap dancing in this show? So glad we had the chance to see this show in Sarasota!
Enjoyed a fantastic performance of Sweeney Todd. Beautiful venue, great performances, and not a bad seat in the house. What a great way to spend a rainy day in Sarasota!
Great theatre facility - but the artistic directors choice of plays isnt great. I and many others stopped subscribing because of this. There are so many wonderful plays out there - so why the old and staid? How about plays by Harald Pinter, Neil Simon etc?
Lifespan of a Fact is an excellent and well acted production.
Beautiful old theatre. Drinks and snacks are great prices. Dont forget to get a sippy cup if you want to bring your drink inside the theatre.
Been to a few productions here. Excellent plays with talented actors! Highly recommend.
They always have wonderful theater as well as performances that make you think and their after the performance discussion is excellent.
We have seen Evita and enjoyed very much. The songs and dances are the jewel of the performance. Clever minimalistic scene. I dislike, however, the convenience fee when buying ticket through Internet. This should be discounted, the theater saving money on box office. The environment is saved too when people do not need to take the car to buy tickets. In 2018 we were enchanted by the Music Man. Everything in this musical was top notch, cant emphasize anything because everything was super. Maybe the thunderstorm afterwords was not necessary :-)
Music Man a great show. Enjoyed it even from the next to last row in the upper balcony. The theater is not that huge so it wasnt too bad. Only negative was that heat rises so it becomes warmer up so high
This is a great theater. The productions are fabulous with great acting and set design. The theater is not huge so you are close to the action.
Shows are always of the highest quality and the venue is excellent.
Four out of five times you’d think you were at one of Broadway’s best
We saw Noises Off. Great performance. Wed seen it originally in London. Helen Mirren was in that cast. Enjoyed the play here equally as much.
I am so impressed with the set, the performers and the whole experience. Cant wait to go back.
Really enjoyed The Sound of music
Great theater. They do some amazing things.
I mean, it’s a beautiful theater and all, but the graduating class of 2016–now THEY’RE worth all the stars in the world!
Top notch theater. Not a bad seat in the house. If you like live theater this is the best.
Best theater anywhere. Just go!
What a fantastic place to see a show!
This theater group is excellent! The show selection is incredible and the showmanship is as well. Would definitely recommend giving any show a chance!
Wonderful theater with great acoustics.
Went to Sweeny Todd at Asolo and wasnt disappointed. Beautiful venue and awesome show.
Went to the theater for the first time to see sweeney Todd. Amazing performance and awesome theater! Seats need updated
Certainly on a scale close to the best of Off Broadway and Broadway. They experiment, they try out new theater approaches. They have a student group that gives their heart to every show and they are of a professional quality. They will feature a redoing of Shakespeare while the Main theater will do classical Broadway hits and even improves some of them as it appeals to a general audience. They are also brave enough to put on late spring and summer and early fall theater so that Sarasota doesnt become a tourist attraction but a place to live year round.
We saw Sweeny Todd, which I was originally skeptical about given its rather macabre theme. It was presented superbly with perfect excecution. The diction of the thespians was crystal clear even with the heavy affected British accents, the singing and the punch-lines very much on key. The production kept the audience on their toes without a single dull moment. This plebian often years for the sweet relief of intermission. Such emotions were never even contemplated!
Beautiful building, friendly staff, amazing creative acting cast and support crew, and lots of extra fun on Family Day
Perfect seating, very kind service as well.
Always great theater productions. This weekend we saw 2 at the Asolo. Sat night was Dolls House, Part 2.....generated a lot of class discussion- neither Nora nor Torvald have improved! Today we saw Sweat by Lynn Nottage - excellent, thought-provoking, sociological study.....go see it! 2 of the actors joined our class afterwards - great discussion!
Wonderfully quaint theater on the grounds of the Ringling Estate. They serve coffee, wine, small bites at great prices. Not a bad seat in the house.
Not a bad seat in the house.
Enjoyed the production of Rhinoceros. The Building and theater are both beautiful and historic. They offer shows year round. Prices are reasonable. Located right next to the Ringling Museum of Art.
Best Music Man that I have had the pleasure of seeing. So much talent. ...
Consistently glorious theater productions. Stage production, lighting production on par with the great theaters of the world. Casts are first rate. One of the great treasures of Sarasota.
Fabulous Shakespearian style theater with terrific plays and musicals.. outstanding stage sets and broadway quality actors and actresses. A must if you’re in Sarasota Florida
Roe was an awesome performance. Many performers played several parts. Jade Turner is an actor to watch for future greatness!
A crown jewel of the arts not just in Sarasota. I have enjoyed the productions more than Broadway on many levels.
In a small town that already has the Van Wezel, the Asolo is a shockingly good theater. Every production I saw at the Asolo Repertory Theatre was well-made -- sometimes the production value was pretty sparse, but the acting was always top-notch.
Movies and television do not amuse me because I always end up falling asleep. Theater interests me, as live interplay stands right before my eyes. In this beautiful medium-sized theater, shows on shows on shows have been held and continue to do so, with never-ending entertainment. Believe it or not, Asolo, is one of the best regional theater companies, in the United States, as several productions have been sent to Broadway.Ticket prices for goods like this are moderately fair for what you are placing your money towards as productions put on display are incredible. Purchase yourself and your date a ticket and just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Pledging to you, you will not be disappointed.
The updated production of Evita was totally amazing, from the opening to the curtain call. The voices were the best, the leads were flawless, sets, lighting, and choreograpy incredible. Should be on a world tour. Thank you all for an unforgettable experience. BRAVO!!!
We went to see Shakespeare In Love and it was five stars! The acting, the stage set all was good; however we had seats in the balcony and could only see the play if we leaned over. So we sat at the edge of our seats and leaned over for the whole production. Not good. The stage was not visible unless we did that so I am not sure those seats should even be available. So hurrah to the cast two thumbs down on the orchestra seats.
Interior is absoutley charming. Excellent views from almost every seat.
The Music Man was the best production I have seen. Fabulous cast!
What a great place to work and see theatre!
Love the work thats done here, and love the support for student patrons with their student rush policy.
We saw Music Man and it was amazing! Beautiful theater too.
Stunning performance! The singing was FABULOUS.
Got to experience the 2018 10-minute play finalists. Top prize was a $1000 scholarship, and runner up received $500. Actors, directors, and writers were all present in the smaller auditorium. Great scripts and production. Glad to know they’re encouraging youth as both actors and playwrights, and appreciated the breadth of experience present in the actors’ bios.
These are not amateur actors. Have seen 2 plays so far this year and am very impressed. Cannot wait for the next one. I am definitely a fan!
We loved Around the World in 80 Days
Saw Sweeny Todd. The acting, scenery was exquisite
When in High School, my dream and aspiration was to be accepted into the Asolo Theater Apprentice Program, my Drama Teacher spearheaded my campaign. Low and behold, The Great Jon Spelman accepted me. This the Premier Theater not on Broadway in the entire USA. The Acting, Productions, Sets, Direction are The Best Theater has to offer.
They may be a fine repetoire theater company, but their claim that seats come available off the standby list is close to specious. Twice Ive been number one on the list and twice Ive been turned away after an hour wait. Recommend that you not believe them.
Great shows from all over play here
Top notch theater space and facilities. Every production Ive seen there since 2006 has been phenomenal. From musicals to classic plays or even avant-garde shows, they get the best production companies available and its always a great experience.
Went to the Cook Theatre tonight to see Oedipus. The new cast did an excellent job learning so very many lines and presenting their interpretation of this age old story. Nice job!
Loved The Sound of Music
