5 stars with some caveats....more of an “Art House” cinema, and it’s definitely an older theater, you don’t get the great comfortable seats, some awkward sight lines, but the sound is good. Beer and wine available, reasonable ticket prices, esp. if you are a member. Lovely part of town, parking might require some luck and timing. I’m just a fan of their overall “concept” or “mission”, so that makes me a happy member!
Its a quirky little theatre in a little arts and crafts area. Perfect for, and wonderful selection of movies.
‘Something cliche about being a safe haven for cinema.’But it’s true. Thanks for helping influence me throughout my high school years, and giving me a place to see interesting films in a sea of comic books.
This movie theatre is horrendous and every single employee is terrible with customer service and rude. The owner should be ashamed and no wonder nobody in Sarasota knows about this theatre. Because it is TERRIBLE. I was absolutely disgusted wi the insults I received from there employees and they do not comply with any COVID-19 Rules. Disgusting
Burns Court has 3 small theaters for films. Run by the Sarasota Film Society, the facility selects art films and films with particular critical or literary merit, including some non English films as well as some also shown at more commercial theaters. Its a nice place with friendly staff, pretty standard movie snacks and less distance to your theater than some multiplexes. Also many fewer previews. Good sound etc.
Great little theater in a funky neighborhood
An Excellent experience! The staff are amazing especially the extremely friendly girl who made me consider becoming a member of the Sarasota Film society! They serve excellent wine and their movies are mostly top notch. I would recommend this theatre to all who want to enjoy something other than regular american cinema. 5/5
Love this little theatre. Great Films. The staff was very friendly and the old style of the theatre was nice. I will definately be back.
We like the low key setting of the area Clean and comfortable
Great chance to see not so mainstream cinema. Seats are old school and screen was smaller than big theaters. Good experience.
This is a very quaint, historical theater. The concession price is much more reasonable than mainstream.
Tucked away in downtown SarasotaNice, unique little theater
Support local arts.. see great films.
Wonderful little theater right in the heart of downtown Sarasota. A little bit of a throwback but good seating and very friendly staff. Loved ità
The best place to see some incredible independent movies.
Small theater showing reasonably priced art house films. Excellent atmosphere, great popcorn. Dont expect big time surround sound and 3d effects here.
Great venue!
Burns Court is one of the premier movie houses in Sarasota. It shows the best variety of films in the area. It often has special shows for their members hosted by Gus Mollasis, who is the top film historian in the area. You must visit it if youre in town and become a member of the Film Society if youre a local.
Burns Court is iconic old Florida. Parking is a nightmare and the city is ticket happy so I suggest taking a Lyft. The movie theater is mostly alternative films. The theatres are small and quaint, charming in its tackiness. Go out to eat in the area before/after the show, great places to eat all just steps away.
Be sure to get their annual membership, best movie deal in town.
A great small theater experience
Excellent small theatre showing first run films you cannot always find in other theatres in Sarasota.
Great movie theater to view independent films
Small, intimate, boutique cinema showing an interesting collection of chic films. We enjoy movies here and dinner at the surrounding restaurants. Always a great evening of entertainment and dining!
Runs those art and independent films you might not be able to catch at the big name theatres. Small and friendly.
This Is a cute little theater, bring a sweater we were very chilly last time. They have an interesting concession stand including wine. Allow time for if you want to find free parking, there is small amount of close by paid parking for $7 for 2 hours
Great seats. Small and quant
Its a little tricky to find but once you do its magical! This is an independent film movie theater in Sarasota and its quaint and beautiful! The location is amazing there always showing interesting movies and I highly recommend this place for anybody local or visiting. Just saw the Mister Rogers movie: Wont you be my neighbor. Amazing!
My FAVORITE art and independent film theater. I drive down from St Pete just to treat myself!
Employees here are wonderful. We arrived early and they were very warm, attentive and helpful. I had a glass of wine with popcorn. Charming theatre and neighborhood. Always a great selection of movies that you wont find anywhere else in town.
The Burns is a wonderful independent movie theater in downtown Sarasota. They get great films and the admission prices are reasonable. Please support them so they are around for a long time.
A great little theater to watch indie movies in a quaint part of town. Probably needed to be a cleaned inside, but not really a bother.
A trip to the Burns to see another exceptional movie. Comfortable, clean, cozy, and friendly staff to complete the picture. Thanks all. We appreciate you!
Attended the chalk festival there. It was amazing. Such talented artists
Sarasota is very fortunate to have a movie theater run by a film society whose focus is delivering great cinema. Burns Court Cinema has been here a long time and I cant imagine Sarasota without it. As a former New Yorker, it adds an element of culture that makes living here worthwhile. Thank you Sarasota Film Society; our city is so much cooler because of you.
We love the drive down from St Pete. Often see films here with limited national release. We like the size of the theatres, seats and concession stand is golden. Great neighborhood jewel.
Everything was great. I only gave it 4 out of 5 because of the chairs. I wish they would update them.
My favorite theatre ️
A cute little theatre in a charming area of Sarasota. The theatre has a very retro (art deco) look and feel so if you are looking for modern big screens go elsewhere. This theatre often has unusual or film festival movies and that is one of the main attractions of it. Ticket prices are a little lower too. Definitely worth checking out especially if you want to see something a little less mainstream.
Good film selections, good service.
Funky, little, old school, indie, art house! A film lovers dream come true!
Nice location, Great prices, Cool theatre
A hidden Gem in an amazing district here in town. First cinema to serve wine, beer, coffees, FRESH popcorn, and baked goods. Not your run of the mill movies either; Consistently eclectic selections to choose from. Make your next movie night at Burns Court! Walk next store to Owens Fish Camp for some delicious food and live music on the weekends to completeyour perfect evening. (you can thank me later)
Old timey theatre luv this place super friendly staff, get yourself a Sam Adams & a popcorn and watch interesting and out & in main stream movies!
Our favorite Cinema to see a great flick!!!!Staff is amazing too:)
We just saw one of the best movies weve ever seen, wont you be my neighbor. The movie theater can be a little tricky to find but once you do its in a little secret Street and its so quiet and so cute. This is independently-run for please do not bring your food and beverages from home. Support them the prices are awesome the seats are comfortable to create environment.
Very cool place to see a movie. Cant wait to go back.
Burns Court always has the very best movies and I have seen some absolutely incredible films their they are never bad
Be sure to buy a tax deductible membership. $5 admissions. Buy their travel mug too. $15 and it gets you LIFETIME hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. Impeccably clean restrooms. Most helpful staff. Easy parking to the East a short walk from theater. Retain your ticket stub for a 15 percent discount at the nice little bistro nextdoor. And finally THE MOVIES! There is ALWAYS something worthwhile on at least one of their three screens. Highly recommended!!
Very cool theater in a wonderful location. Always showing the best films.
AMC theater. No reclining chairs but still a good enough theater.
Best place to watch forgotten masterpieces.
Joe the Manager is so nice to the customers. WE LOVE JOE!!!
I like this theatre, altho not cheap! The do have good and unusual movies.
Small venue offering rare video experiences
Art House to mainstream cinema house with wine and beer
Two stars, heres why. Ive visited often from Venice, FL & appreciate splendido selection o art house fliks present. however, I have issues wit lack o diversity here. predominantly white, overly prosperous. why cant there be a program that helps pay & enable underprivileged kids o color to partake inna progressive movie experience. certainly there are patrons o the arts in Sarasota, this lobby appeared full o them. wont someone come forward?
Judy was a great movie!
Great theater! Love that I can have a glass of wine and a movie.
Its a small theatre ran by the local film society. They routinely show movies that you may not find at your Larger theatres. They serve beer and wine. The screens are smaller. The employees are always friendly.
Wonderful get away. lived in Sarasota for 17 years and Im so happy to have a theater like this close by. Wonderful choices of movies, great staff! Very homey feeling, wouldnt know what to do without a theater like this one that offers not so ordinary films, which is a relief from all the Hollywood chaos.
This is a hard one to rate. It reminds me of the thalia art theater on Broadway in New York City.It has all the pluses, the films worth seeing. There may be a terrible one thrown in every 100 movies The price is reasonable especially for a member, which I am not. The lines outside are a social occasion, where youll meet your complete set of intellectual friends. But the walls remind me of Russia, paper thin and if Im watching some romantic flick I may also be hearing the war movie from next door.
Good movie selections,.some foreign..Some not shown at other theaters. Seats are not the most comfortable, however, it is an older venue, and so, understandable. Takes you back to the 50s.
Great selection in movies. Happy they have beer and wine. It’s a sweet cinema.
Fantastic little theater. I alwa .it s enjoy visiting. So nice to enjoy a glass of wine whilst watching a movie.
The best theatre for the thinking mans kind of movies. Not for the crash and burn, car, chase crowd. Small and intimate venue.
Parking is on the street; sweet area and not crowded during day on weekdays. Firm notice about turning off your cell phones, a bit too firm for me...Lots of elderly and was firmly asked during previews by a rude elderly man if we planned on talking during the movie... Didnt let his ugliness distract from our enjoyment of the movie! Not sure if Ill return unless its the only place showing what I want to see.
This theater has so much potential. It’s sad that both times I’ve gone to a movie I encountered rude customers that I assume were members because they acted like they owned the place. I also was uncomfortable with the fact that they lock the front doors during the final movie showing. I am sure that is a fire hazard and dangerous if people needed to escape quickly.
Charming last century movie venue
Nice clean theater. Get there early to get seat and tickets .
I finally got to see Loving Vincent here. Very cute little theater. Ill definitely be back when Im back in the area!
Great movies. Great vibe
Burns Court Cinema is a great small venue in a charming neighborhood. It’s clearly a popular place, so I’d recommend buying tickets early on the Sarasota Film Society website.
Cute local theater, easy to get in and out. Also well priced.
Very nice theater
Great Art Theater. Enjoy a glass of wine with your popcorn while watching an evocative film. Located the charming historical Burns Court area of Sarasota. Quaint little shops and restaurants close by; Owens Fish Camp (dinner only) being one of my favorite places to dine after theater.
Nice, small cinema (3 screens), recently refurbished, quite reasonable prices. Not the place for big-screen and surround sound though.
I love the movies that you can see at Burns Court. I cant believe the people that complain about the seats or the small screen. Maybe it really a complain about the type of movies that are viewed. Its a great little theater!
The line was long getting the tickets and it was hot waiting in line.
Very nice movie theater.
They show movies that others dont. Saw the Mister Rogers movie and loved it. Friendly staff to. Would go back!
A architectural gem set amongst modern high rises in Sarasota. Great movies shown here that appeal to discriminating viewers.
Local arts cinema with all the latest indie fare. Only deficiency is very small theaters and screen sizes. Nice, very-busy restaurant, Owens Fish Camp, next door.
Great independent films.
Our favorite theater in Sarasota (and Bradenton), interesting foreign and independent films. quaint atmosphere, clean.
Best source for foreign and independent films. Great pour on the wine. Some screens are tiny. No parking.
Quirky small old time theater. Clean and friendly, become a member to get special benefits.
Its a FABULOUS venue! BUT ... either my bums gotten less fat (no way), or their chairs have gotten harder. Either way, sitting through a 90-minute movie is agonizing, even with wine! I urge the board to fundraise for comfy seats. Hubby and I have already decided to give this theatre a pass for future movies...and its not a happy decision. Its a necessity.
Burns Court Cinema is a great independent theater in a lovely nook of Sarasota. They reliably play the great movies that arent showing at local mainstream theaters, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the theaters are small, but comfortable.
I liked the friendly staff and the theater was a little smaller. The movie was good of course and I could have my favorite tea while I watched. The rates are reasonable.
Quaint, nice, be there early to find a parking spot
Cute intimate little theater.
Cute movie theater for more independent fare. Obviously not the stadium style seating everyone has become accustomed to, but they do show better movies. Movie screen had some marks, though.
Great for indy and limited release films. Usually thoughtful and or artistic content.
Mr. Holmes a weird film. McKellens face is wonderful. BUT PLEASE, Mr. PRIME MINISTER, give us subtitles so that we can understand what English actors say.
Awesome! This local theatre is technically a non-profit thats tied to the Sarasota Film Festival. That means you can see some of the best art-house flicks without being in a big time city. The seats are on the newer side, making the environment comfortable. Tickets are $8 for non-members and $5 for members. The staff is mostly theatre geeks who love the cinema. Parking is the only headache because theres nothing right there, but you have plenty of choices on neighboring streets. #Sarasota #Movies
