What a great place to unwind and relax whilst in Santa Fe! The private rooms are ideal to take a bottle of bubbly and relax with your partner in the hot and cold tubs on your own. Then having a couples massage is a great way to finish off the experience there. It’s not inexpensive, but it’s worth every dollar.

Ok this place was nice... but maybe a little too crowded to have a legitimate relaxing spa atmosphere. It was a Sunday morning, and very difficult to get booked in. I think we called about 4 or 5 days before so make sure you book early. It is a nice place the welcome receptionist was nice, but the check out receptionist was making us feel very judged... it was awkward. Both of me and my husband’s massage therapists were amazing. I am a licensed massage therapist so I feel like I am a little more difficult when people give me a massage but overall it is a nice place for relaxation, but the common areas feel a little over crowded. I don’t think I would come back again, it was a nice time the first time but it wasn’t my favorite place and we spent about $600 for two people 3 treatments each, which is about average for a high level spa experience. I do like that they have signs where everything is so you don’t feel lost... and that they have signs for no photography In the spa area I think it’s important when you are trying to relax and not worry about the outside world. I give 5 stars because for a first time spa experience this is very nice.

I wish I could give more stars. The staff were incredible. We were graced by Avis (the cat) presence during our private hot tub time. He is worth his weight in gold (refer to sundays night staff for details). The food and ambience were more than we expected. I cant wait to come back, even though I only live an hour away. Im a frugal person and every penny was well spent. I cant wait to visit again. Thank you for this experience!

The baths and saunas are always relaxing. Theyre only doing private tubs right now due to the covid restrictions and are doing thorough sanitizing in between reservations to keep everyone safe. Theres one tub where they can lower the temp if requested for special circumstances. Extra precautions for massages as well like masks for the duration. Shiatsu massage is a special experience. Really appreciate the staff working so hard in this time to keep people safe while getting a sense of normalcy back in their lives.

Very relaxing and a great day trip if you’re visiting, I prefer to go in the cooler months or evenings. Can be busy on weekends so be sure to make your massage appointments in advance. This place is awesome. It’s my second trip and the first time actually staying in one of the rooms. The rooms are nice but if you stay in the “Luna” room be aware that they have two small sun roof windows directly above the bed with no way to close them. At 5:45 the light is directed straight down on to where you rest your head. The rest of the room is dark but it’s like a magnifying glass focusing the sun straight down onto where you rest your head. The bed is super comfortable and has plenty of pillows to cover your head and block out the light. Also, the air conditioner was so loud we had to download an app and put on white noise to cover up the squeaky oscillations of the AC. We will come back again but will probably avoid this room. Everything else including the staff are friendly and helpful. We are hoping to make this a yearly vacation.

We stayed here for my birthday last week and, overall, the experience left something to be desired. The spa services themselves were wonderful, as were the baths, and the food at Izanami. But each time we interacted with staff we were left feeling less than, and that lack of customer service really made the price tag feel like a stinger. We stayed 2 nights in two different rooms. Both rooms had old lumpy mattress. For $300+ a night (not including spa, food, fees etc) we expect to sleep in quality bed. The second room we stayed in had a weird strip of lights under the cabinet that we could not turn off. By the time we realized that this was going to be a problem, it was after ‘’office hours’’ (8:30) and only had an ‘’emergency’’ phone number to call. This didn’t feel like an emergency we wanted to deal with so had to toss and turn all night with this bright glow next to our heads. As for the spa; we both got a series of spa services that were presented as packages, the services themselves were great but each time one finished they would just drop us off in the spa lobby and no one would tell you if you had another service coming up unless you walked up to the host stand each time. It wasn’t until after myServices that i realizes they completely forgot about one of them, and when i asked the front desk about it i was told “oh yeah you did, we talked to the spa and they said you did”. To which i responded, “no i think i would remember a salt scrub but it’s fine bc i really enjoyed my services.” They called back and made some excuse about them switching my service around but did not offer any discount or attempt to make up for it.Honestly the setting is beautiful and very peaceful, but for how much you spend it’s so important to make your customers feel cared for. All in all just come for the spa services and get ready to deal with some sassy staff in trade for a beautiful soak.

I treated myself to a massage and an overnight stay at Ten Thousand Waves (Spring Moon) to celebrate my 70th birthday in October 2020. I lost my husband in May 2020 and this was the perfect pick-me-up to relieve my sadness. The weather was gorgeous and the staff very helpful especially Javi at the front desk. I’d never been to TTW before so I needed someone to show me around and answer my questions and Javi was kind enough to be my guide. My wife and I first visited 10,000 waves a few years ago and had an enjoyable experience. In February, just before the Covidpocalypse, I booked a return trip for the middle of August, coinciding with Indian Market. As they have had to close the spa, and the Market has been cancelled, we cancelled our reservation. At the time we made our reservation, their website stated that we should receive a full refund of our deposit. My reservation confirmation states the same. See my photos attached to this review. In acknowledging my cancellation, they sent an email stating that Presently, all deposit refunds are being processed via gift certificates. The property has been unresponsive to subsequent emails and phone calls attempting to discuss the situation. Theyve since changed their cancellation policy on their website; I had to use web.archive.org to pull up the version that existed when I made my reservation. If they become willing to resolve this situation and honor our agreement, I will update this review.

Immersive, unique, fantastic staff, amazing location—a great resort, highly recommended. Ten Thousand Waves is a jewel of a resort set in the beautiful mountainous area just above Santa Fe. The theme of the resort revolves around Japanese culture split between the lodging, spa, and dining. First and foremost, the staff in the office, housekeeping, spa, and restaurant were all consistently fabulous and key to the relaxing experience of the resort. We stayed in the Blue Moon suite, a lovely, three-room accommodation highlighting Japanese styling. The suite included: an expansive, comfy bed in the Japanese styling of firm and low; kimonos and sandals; plenty of bedding and blankets; private patio; fireplace/wood; microwave/fridge; fruit, milk, and granola; two sinks with plenty of vanity space; a nice shower; an electric toilet (heated seat!); a private parking spot; and more. The hilly property is beautifully landscaped and bisected with paths and dirt roads/parking. We enjoyed three trips to the spa for the Ofuro (spa suite), (Shoji) private tub, and massage. Hint: pair a trip to the Ofuro private spa suite with dining at Izanami for a fantastic, romantic experience with your sweetie. The spa is incredible, well run, and well-appointed in Japanese styling featuring soaking tubs, massage, and skin care. The restaurant, Izanami (covered in a separate review), is a great upscale izakaya dining focused on small plates of delectable goodness and a wide variety of sakes, teas, and beers. We ate at Izanami four times and loved it. The resort location is a quick drive to a wide variety of mountain/forest parks with hiking trails, the Santa Fe plaza, and Ski Santa Fe; there are also other northern New Mexico attractions just an hour or two drive away, such as the awesome Bandelier National Monument. You can visit Ten Thousand Waves for any mix of lodging, spa, and dining experiences; consider all three for an immersive experience and combine with some visits to local attractions. The costs at the resort are moderate to high but priced very reasonably to the quality of service. Overall, I rate Ten Thousand Waves as a great value for amazing staff, excellent services, immersive relaxation, outstanding location, and on-target pricing. Highly recommended—one of the great resorts of the U.S.

I felt very taken care of by all the staff at Ten Thousand Waves. From Lodging, to the Spa, to Izanami, my experience was memorable and comfortable. The rooms were gorgeously decorated and luxuriously outfitted. Their Houses of the Moon are some of the best rooms Ive ever stayed in anywhere! They keep them nice and clean and they always leave little Buddha chocolates for you on your bed. I highly recommend the Sailor Moon room for its unique design and its giant shower that can fit six people in it! The spa facilities were well maintained and taken care of, and the treatments were relaxing, refreshing, and revitalizing. The food at Izanami, though a bit on the pricey for the amount they gave you (at least for some of their dishes), was delicious and beautifully displayed! And no matter where I went they always tried to make me feel welcome and at home. I would definitely come back to Ten Thousand Waves, and plan to in the future!

The common locker/restrooms were clean and provided everything for a good experience. After your services you have to try the onsite restaurant. Waitstaff is great. Menu is limited, but food is good. Top pick are the ribs. They are expensive, around $14 for three... but so worth it. The meat was falling of the bones and the flavor is beyond words. The bath facility was great with two tubs and a sauna as well as showers, ice water, etc. We booked 90 min but an hour would have been enough. Because we booked over 3 hours, we got $36 vouchers to the restaurant and got to enjoy a nice dinner (izakaya style). The room we stayed in was the Sailor Moon room. It was super cute! Its small, but cozy with a huge two head shower, a day bed with twinkling starlights, outside hibachi grill/courtyard (which we didnt use since it was cold), TV, coffee, tea, fridge with a few drink choices, and a microwave. All in all, we definitely visit again!

This was my 2nd visit to Ten Thousand Waves. Since my first visit a lot of changes have been made on the property. The overall experience was great again. The property which is modeled after Japanese hot springs and spas in Japan is very scenic and relaxing. The hot springs are located on the same road that leads out to the ski resort. Tucked away in the trees on the mountainside, its a very quiet, scenic location, with great views of the night sky.The pools which are filled with spring water are artificially heated, and are sulfur free. The pools have a flat bottom, so that soakers can sit anywhere in the pool without it being too deep. The pools are surrounded by wooden Japanese style fencing with translucent frosted glass. At night time the area is very dark, with only walkways lit by little lantern shaped lights.Community pools are topless, while private pools and mens and womens only pools are also available behind the community pools. The Spa offers a wide selection of treatments, the lobby store has many oils, shampoos and other Japanese themed items. The Spa and Hot Springs were very busy this trip, but it was a Friday evening. Even so, I had no problem getting checked in promptly and out to the pools. I even got to enjoy a nice sit in the Spa area, drinking some lemon grass tea next to the crackling fireplace.I also tried the foot soaking area, which has a view of a small man made waterfall. This was something I didnt try on my first visit.Since my first visit several changes had been made. A glassed in room had been added with reading lamps, and noise canceling headphones. This room was filled with people almost constantly while I was there, so I didnt get a chance to try it.I spoke with staff about the recent changes, including the movement of the mens locker rooms. The locker rooms were smaller, and somewhat confusing, split into two halves. They informed me it was done to double the size of the womens locker room, and that more were being built. They told me the womens rooms will become the mens again. The property is definitely growing. There was a price increase as well since my first visit. As of this visit the hot springs admission is $40, which is still in the range of being affordable as a stop for vacationers, but if the price were to increase anymore, I would be reluctant to stop here for a quick soak. You should expect to spend at least 2-3 hours here. What makes this hot spring worth the $40 is that they dont charge for lockers, sandals, or towels, and include hot tea, cucumber water, lemon water, and have saunas. Hot springs in Colorado and Arkansas charge for many of these items. The admission here is more all inclusive, which I think gives a better experience over all.

Im from Santa Fe and have visited 10k waves many times. Im grateful for a place to soak and relax, close to home. The craftsmanship of this space is impeccable, and its clear that the staff take good care of it. I love taking the long way up the stairs on the mountainside, knowing that an evening of relaxation awaits. But for the past few years, Ive been increasingly unable to ignore some concerns, and I see them echoed in the reviews here. The first time I visited, and all subsequent visits, I have never been asked to shower before using the communal pools. Ive never heard another guest receive this instruction, either. Onsen etiquette requires that visitors are clean before they enter shared water. From what Ive observed at The Waves, Americans arent necessarily aware of this. Yuck. There is no supervision in the communal or womens tubs. Ive had some wonderful soaks where everyone whispered their conversations, but more often than not, folks are just loud and inconsiderate. Boisterous groups, couples getting touchy-feely, kids in goggles splashing around, parents slathering sunscreen all over their kids before they get into the water... not relaxing. Id think it would be in the businesss best interest to discourage conversation among guests, and send them off to Izanami for their socialization -- a f t e r their time at the spa!I cant forget to mention the visitor who comes out of the sauna, drenched in sweat, and RINSES OFF in the cold plunge. It happens every single time I visit. So, whenever I take a cold plunge I know I am coating myself in the sweat of others. There is a shower located conveniently outside the sauna, but its apparently easy for people to miss. So, Waves, why is the etiquette for bathing not made clear to visitors? Why is there no supervision to enforce the basic courtesies that make soaking such a special experience? I would gladly edit my review if things got a little better. For the price we pay, you can do this!

Kind, friendly and attentive service; knowledgeable, professional and caring masseuses; serenely beautiful, secluded, forested mountain setting; ecologically mindful; clean and well maintained. The baths are relaxing and open to their natural surroundings while still maintaining privacy. The lodging invokes the same peaceful tranquility with a variety of themed rooms that are like small cottages hidden in a magic forest. I love climbing up the lanterned paths through the trees, in just my kimono and sandals to the hot baths. The izakaya style restaurant, Izanami, is a brilliant and top-notch addition to the grounds. Ive been coming here for 20 years and with each visit, theyve made it more enjoyable, more wondrous and harder to say goodbye to. A gorgeous spa, in a lovely forest, in an enchanted land.

Positives- Karen in booking was phenomenal. Helping me book 5 different packages and she efficiently took care of everything with grace and aplomb. The treatments were lovely and everyone enjoyed their choices. I had Ari who introduced me to shiatsu massage and was well trained, calming and perfectly communicative. The negatives- the spa is over crowded. We were there on a Monday and it still seemed body to body, with not enough space in common soaking spots like the foot soak. The locker rooms are WAY under sized! Youre just on top of one another. It is the opposite of a soothing intro to your services. There are no facial cleansing products available, the robe ties are not attached, constantly go missing or drop and you have to return your robe and shiatsu clothes to the front desk- no robe drop in the locker room. Their system of getting from soak to treatment feels a quite like a cattle call. The relaxation room is small, bare bones and too exposed or close to/mixed in to the entry fray. The prices are fair for the lovely services but high for the rest of the experience. Considering the number of resort spas in Santa Fe, Ten Thousand Waves has some improvements to make. Be prepared to adjust your expectations or accept a lesser all around experience, though again, the treatments and therapists are well trained and great. The restaurant was so+so. Decent food and we had a nice waiter. But we arrived with a reservation and they treated us like walk ins. There were tons of empty tables and we had to wait quite a while to be seated. It didnt match Karens amazing booking experience for the reservation. All in all, I understand why the experience is sought after- Japanese theme, treatment rooms are lovely and amongst nature with good treatments. But Ten Thousand Waves needs to improve the ratio of bodies to facilities and make the experience fit its theme and spa setting. As a prior spa professional and just a customer, I was disappointed with much of the experience and think there is plenty of room for improvement.

Great soaks, hot saunas, very relaxing atmosphere. Always leave refreshed and excited to return. I wish they offered a combo season pass discount with ski santa fe

Such a great experience. Seldom do my wife and I have time for a half day at one location but I wish we had more time. A private couples bath, treatments and then sashimi at the partner restaurant next door. We will be back

When I lived in New Mexico, this was one of my favorite places to go! Loved soaking in the womens pool anytime of year and hanging out in the lodge when it was cold. Lovely place to spend a relaxing time. If youre in the Santa Fe area, I highly recommend taking a few hours to go and partake of the waters...and their great energy!

The spa was wonderful. We got the private hot tub and it had an ambient temperature pool and a dry sauna as well. We got it for 90 minutes and the time went by fast. Well worth the trip.

Went on Christmas Day and it was a bit busy (wait was about an hour or so), but staff was generally pretty helpful and we had a good experience. There were some loud visitors in the spa area and so would have appreciated some employees enforcing whispering but otherwise great.
