Touring the Jackson Ballard Gallery in Taos, NM, was a delightful experience. The gallery is located on the quaint Ledoux Street near the Plaza. A beautiful banner hangs on the outside adobe wall to welcome visitors. As you step through the door, you are transported to a pleasant experience of viewing Native American art and traditional Hispanic style works. Filled with bright colors, Jackson Ballard’s art represents the wonderful history, culture, and faith of this unique community.
I visited the Jackson Ballard Gallery this past Sunday, March 8, 2020, and found it be a delightful place! Jackson Ballard is a very talented artist who produces traditional Pueblo and Hispanic folk art. If you are looking for something different and an intimate gallery where you may just meet the artist himself, I highly recommend Jackson Ballard Gallery!
So thrilled I was able to visit Jackson’s gallery on a recent day trip to Taos. I had been an admirer of his work for years and was curious about his story and his artistic process. The space itself—in the historic Blumenschein home—is lovely. Jackson’s work in displayed among carefully curated antique textiles and New Mexican furniture. We spent time with the artist and his wife, and hope to add one of his paintings to our collection! Don’t miss this gallery on your visit to Taos.
In March, my mother and I took a road trip to Taos. After roaming around for a few days in town visiting many galleries, we discovered Jackson Ballard gallery after visiting a badly run museum next door.JB space is serene and well curated. To our big surprise the artist was present in the room and he personally welcomed us to his new “home”. I related to his work very much. I definitely recommend visiting this gallery. I am still thinking about the small portrait on the wall of the Indian man with braids.Don’t forget to visit Harwood Museum a few doors down afterwards.
