An amazing museum filled with so much history. Airplanes, motorcycles, cars and off road fighting vehicles. Everything is in pristine condition. I was amazed with some of the German cars and off road vehicles. They also have some awesome racing cars for you to admire. The Indian motorcycle was one of my favorites. This is perfect for the entire family. I totally recommend this beautiful museum to everyone.
This is a great place to live a little bit of the world wars history and part of it’s real equipment used, specially the aircraft’s and the vehicles! We had an amazing time with my family! Beautiful place with beautiful and very well maintained war aircraft’s used in different combat missions and World War II. Absolutely recommend it and definitely going back! If you want nice military aircrafts photo shoots, this is a great place! Thank you all that served not just for this country but for the whole world!
This sculpture is so pretty when lit at night. When taking pictures there at night go on the inside where its bright. I tried getting pics of myself on the outer edges and its pitch black. I couldnt even see my face. Even with the flash on it sucked. It was so much better once I got to the inside part.
This was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Customer service was fantastic throughout the museum and the exhibits were pristine and displayed perfectly.
Hidden gem in OC. Amazing piece of history. Definitely worth checking out.
Brought my 2 year old son to the Museum and had a great experience. Make sure to chat with Michael as he is friendly and knowledgeable. The passion he has is palpable. Will certainly return in the future.
It’s a decent sized museum, but I didn’t feel that it was worth $12 for an adult. Kids from 5 to 17 of age is $6 and kids 5 years old and under is free. The parking is also free. The museum is located right next to the John Wayne Airport so you also get to frequently see airplanes take off and land. Kids love watching this! The whole collection and the history was well organized. You’re not allowed to touch most of the cars or airplanes. But they do have a section where you can sit on the jeeps and sit inside the pilot area. My kid loves to try new things and test things out. So she literally just stayed in this area most of the time there.
What a great find! This air museum is great! Many planes to look at, and not just small ones but large planes including an American Airlines historical plane. There are also cars and motorcycles as well.
This is a great museum including mostly World War II aircraft, all in flyable condition. The docents, most of whom are pilots, are fascinating people who have a wealth of information to share; please engage them if you visit the museum. The restoration/maintenance work performed on the aircraft in cars is simply some of the best I have ever seen.
Nice historic aircraft exhibit. Great way to spend a little time with the kids. Can be pretty warm in the summer, a limited space is air conditioned. We happened to see a terrific Ferrari exhibit when we visited.
Amaizing place. It’s incredible that all the pieces of equipment actually are in working conditions!!! All the equipment there have a story to tell. A must see place.
Very nice museum with a super-friendly staff! As the airport is right next to this place, we could see the planes take-off and land from the museum. Our 4 yr old loved it! Overall a great experience.Checking groupon is a good idea before planning a visit. Generally they have good discounts.
It was ok and we had some fun.
Temporarily closed...be awarechange your status of biz.into closedstill shows open for biz.
Excellent overall experience, informative and friendly staff... and thanks to the ww2 vets there talking to guests... if it werent for yall, wed be speaking German or Japanese here now... thank you so much for kicking axis butt and really keeping America great, and free from the tyranny of dictatorships :)Forever grateful!!
It is smaller than I imagined, but still worth the trip down here. I am a history buff and it is neat to see all the aircraft and read the descriptions on the displays. The displayed aircraft look beautiful and you can see the care it took to put them all together.
Very well preserved and care B17, the small cinema shows a movie with original videos of WWII is small but very beautiful plane, in addition to some cars of collection and a German jeep
A must for aviation enthusiasts! A great 3 hour stop.
Small museum but they have a great collection of planes, cars and motorcycles from the WWII era. Most of the planes are maintained and flown regularly. You can even go inside a few of the bombers, and you can fly in a few of them, but it will cost you some big chedda cheese to make that happen.
Great venue, amazing collection of planes and vehicles!
Great place to visit. Can go into the planes.Kids love it.
The Lyon Air Museum houses an outstanding collection of WWII aircraft in mint condition. All aircraft are said to be operational and are housed in a beautiful hangar location facing the John Wayne Airport. Aircraft are not accessible for climbing inside, but there are docents who accompany the visitors around and answer any questions that might be of interest. Visitors can peer into bomb bays, hatches and doors. There is a ten-minute (looped) movie on the B-17 bomber at the far wall of the museum. There is also a collection of military vehicles from the period.
Lot more than I expected, get a one volunteers to take you through it makes it so much better
Attended as part of an aircraft display (I’m a pilot considering the purchase of a plane) and had a chance to walk the floor of the museum. Wish I had known it was here long ago.....what a treat! They have a B-17, C-47, A-26 and DC-3 on display and have done an incredible job of refurbishing them. They also have a Daimler German staff car and several other interesting pieces from the war years. Worth the price of admission, and if you have any connection to those planes (my friend dad flew in the ‘17, and was a nav in ‘47 as a candy bomber), you’ll be lost for an afternoon, maybe more!
Great little airplane museum!
The venue is a bit on the small side. The audio quality in the movie theater is poor.
Pricey, but interesting. Its a good place to go in August, when you want to let the kids see things but not be out in the middle of the day heat. There are three huge cargo and war planes that the kids can poke around. (Not go in...it isnt that type of museum.) The planes and vehicles are all flown and driven, so check their website to see when they parade them out. Its in a hangar along the John Wayne airports runway, so you get to watch the jets take off and land. (That alone made my kids day. Security tends to make it hard to watch the large airports runways.)

Wow, I have been living in OC for over 25 years and never knew we had such a beautiful and informative museum. This place if you want to go alone, bring a date, friends, family or even clients. You get a great view of the airport and you see more than just plains as Lyon also collected rare bikes, cars, and other rare military piecesThis place gets five stars from me!
Its interesting. But $12 admission seems pretty steep considering there arent very many exhibits to look at.It is an interesting place to check out, but you probably wouldnt get more than an hours worth of enjoyment out of it.
This is a jewel! Take a docent guided tour and learn as much as you want about the planes (on display) used in WWII. What a great history lesson. Our docents Dave and Dan were extremely well informed and made the visit so valuable! We plan on doing it again.
This is an awesome Museum! Most of the planes are from the World War II era and are in very very nice condition this museum is extremely clean and comfortable to walk around. The museum is completely indoors and although its not a large Museum as opposed to some of the other air museums that are around you could still spend plenty of time here. They also have vehicles and motorcycles some from the US Army and others from the Germans and Japanese. This place is a little hard to find but it is definitely worth it right next to the John Wayne Airport. The staff is extremely friendly helpful and knowledgeable.
This is a great hidden treasure in the heart of Orange County! Located on the John Wayne airport premises, this museum has several large, rare, vintage aircraft and many vehicles. There is a kids area where kids can climb in period Jeeps, a cockpit and an old military transport. This place is great!
My 3 year old had a blast! Aside from all of the planes, cars, and motorcycles there are to look at, they have a few you can play around in. There is also a small movie theater playing related films and the side of the hanger facing the runway is glass so you can see the planes outside. The volunteer docents were friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back!
Have known about Lyon Air Museum for years from many flights out of John Wayne and seeing them from the terminal. I finally made the decision to visit them and scored a Groupon discount as well. The museum is primarily a single hangar stuffed full of airplanes and some vehicles. All are in pristine condition and all of the airplanes are in flyable condition. Will definitely spend some more time here.
Great place for private events!
If your even slightly interested in planes, this is a must see.
Cool museum with great view of the runway. The collection is small bit impressive especially if you like military history. Everything is well maintained and cared for here.
Beautiful museum with very knowledgeable docents. What a hidden gem! Very interesting, great history displayed, and an amazing collection of history under one roof.
Worst museum ever! I thing to really see. In fact one of the staff members yelled At me for touching the back of a plane in their interactive section! Biggest waste of money ever!!! Would definitely NOT recommend this place!
I had an amazing experience going here. It was interesting learning about the planes, and history. The event was going on as well. I signed up to fly on one of the B-24 planes, AKA Witchcraft. If you have the money to do it. You definitely need to experience it. It may seem like a lot. However if you think about fuel, maintenance of the planes, the pilots, etc. Its pretty cheap. I cant even imagine what our troops went through during those times. I have a higher respect for our troops, and military. I highly recommend checking this place out. Its a absolute must to go fly in the planes. Its a life time experience. Im definitely going again next year when the event is back in town. It was beyond amazing seeing the area. It was nothing short but breathtaking. I want to thank the pilots of the B-24 Witchcraft. You guys are awesome.
Impressive private collection, do miss when the Wings of Freedom tour comes to town.
Very nice people. You can see the air plane take off from John Wayne airport.
A great museum of wwii airplanes and they are all capable of flying this place is worth a visit for sure.
This place has some if the best WWII vintage pieces youll see in the Southland. I spoke with one of the docents who told me that the inventory is always changing. In addition to American artifacts, there are some great German, Russian and Japanese pieces as well; stuff that you wont see anywhere else.
A real hidden gem! A small museum packed full of interesting planes and cars. Take a look if you are passing nearby.
Excellent museum with well labeled displays. If you have time, get a docent led tour. The tour is informative and enjoyable.
Authentic smell from the hangar because all the aircraft still work in the hangar. Its from the oil for the aircraft. Good for history and steam/stem people.
Awesome for the kids to go around and look at the planes. There are also old jeeps and a cockpit they can climb in and put their hands on. Kids under 3 are free, 15 dollars for everyone else. Good for an hour and a half of entertainment with young ones.
A wonderful place to take the entire family to see antique aircraft and vehicles thst are wonderfully restored. They are very knowledgeable Of their restored the vehicles and aircraft. They have a wonderful selection in a beautiful museum. We cant wait to go back and see it it again.
Wow!! I was so impressed by this huge museum! If you want to see WWII items, you will find it there. They even house the infamous car Hitler was driven in during that period... Very strange feeling standing in front of that car! They have planes, cars, motorcycles, clothing items, newspapers of that time. A must visit.
World War 2 and later military/commercial aircraft and engines and other memorabilia on display inside a museum hangar. Right near John Wayne Airport. There were also automobiles on temporary display the day I visited; so special exhibits come and go over time. Well worth a day trip to check out if you are a military aviation buff.
Great small air museum! School groups get in free! The volunteers provide knowledge that seems not to trickle down through schools!!
Take the kids and enjoy these great displays both inside the museum building and outside. The kids will love the interesting exhibits as well as the opportunity to get outside and checkout the many planes on display. Learn about WWII planes and autos. Informative and friendly museum staff. Very open inside and easy to navigate the exhibits.
One of the best air museums in the country. The hangar is run by a 94-year old general. The WWII planes and cars are in perfect condition. My guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. In the back, there is an unobstructed view of the SNA runway, which makes this an amazing place to plane spot.
Planes are in top-notch condition and there are a few very knowledgeable gentlemen that will guide you through. We had a great time with Mr. Mo as our guide today. They have a classic Mercedes Benz exhibition until August 22 (2016). Very impressive cars.
The Lyon Air Museum is a hidden gem, well worth a visit and its ticket price. Every piece of it topped all my expectations. The collection was amazing. Each plane looks like it just came of the production line, all the details preserved. You can get right up next to them and really look at every angle. The staff were really knowledgeable and just love talking to you.One of the most unexpectedly cool parts are the massive glass hangar doors that let you look out at John Waynes runway. I could watch planes takeoff and land for hours.
So so cool! Recommended for any war/history buff. Also great for a short trip, no longer than 2 hours
Incredible collection and very knowledgeable tour guides
World War II memorabilia at its best. Worth the trip.
The museums layout and displays are well thought out! I ended up actually being engaged and not just wandering around aimlessly
Some people think that history is something that can get boring when reading from a textbook. The Lyon Air Museum changes all of that. Here you can view and wonderful collection of planes and other vehicles. You can see bombers and fighter planes, but they also have motorcycles and cars. One of the cars they have on display is a limousine that actually drove Hitler at one point. That is the kind of stuff you cannot experience in a textbook. When you see what the Greatest Generation used to combat Nazis, makes you appreciate everything you have. This museum houses not only vehicles but history and memories for not only this generation but many more generations will be able to appreciate.Note: If you call ahead, you have a docent give you a guided tour of the museum, which in my opinion is amazing.
I loved this place! It is a small museum, but it is packed with amazing and cool pecices of history.
Loved this WWII air museum. Has cool cars too. Right on the airport and in a hangar. Clean, neat, no garbage lying around. Thumbs up.
A hidden gem in Orange County. On the historic grounds of Orange County airport, the former Santa Ana Army Airbase, youll find a rare glimpse into the past. Housing an ultra-rare B-17 Flying Fortress and an A-26 Invader, among classic cars and motorcycles of a bygone era. The fact that all the planes are airworthy, and the museum is immaculate, lends to the nostalgic feel of the place. A must see!
Amazing history! Spotless
Very nice place and people. I cant believe that all these planes are flyable. So much history and no one was here. Highly recommend you do if you are deciding. Well worth the money.
The experience was not was I expected because there wasn’t so much to do and why can’t we go outside.
Love the planes and events.
Horrible experience, if you were a old person I bet you would enjoy this.
Lots of WWII planes and cars. It was interactive and had a video of a POW and WWII vet and he was a total hero! Really interesting to see history first hand.
Great time will return! :)
Wonderful museum with planes, vintage cars and motorcycles and an interactive section for kids.
Great museum! Very glad to have stumbled across it while waiting for a flight!
If you like historically significant military aircraft you should enjoy this museum.
Being close enough to touch flight-ready WW2 aircraft and other vehicles in a hangar? Im in. Nice place with very pleasant Docents as well.
Free in the OC! Super informative eager docents. Great little collection of aircraft tucked away at SNA.
Really cool displays, just needs more of them and maybe something hands on. The Mercedes collection was really cool.
Came here to shoot some photos for MCN, entirely because they have one of only 10 airworthy B-17 Flying Fortress planes from WWII era. They also have several other interesting planes, cars and motorcycles, well worth it for vehicle buffs.
What a great collection of working aircraft from history. Worth your time.
Great place to find rare, unique aircraft, automobiles, Motorcycles, Military Items from WW II. Nice Tour.
Very nice facility, just limited the wow factor I went threw the whole museum in 40 mins. The works dont get very much visitors so theyre constantly following and asking if you have any questions.. overall its a good place to kill some time or to check out some ww2 history
This place is excellent, very clean, I love to visit it
Small museum. But worth checking out.
Awesome old war planes. Worth the fee if youre into history.
Great WW2 collection.
