We have hiked many of the east bay regional parks and this has to be one of my favorites. There are a lot of trails to choose from and it is easy to get too but you still feel isolated. The views from the rocky ridge trail are amazing. Planning to go back and explore some more. Definitely a gem of this park system.
A moderate yet one of the most memorable hikes. views are spectacular particularly the views from the peak. If you are lucky enough, you can see some wildlife too. Saw coyote at the top.
Las Trampas Wilderness Park has many hiking trails. The Sycamore-Devils Hole loop is almost 7mile hike and it is moderate to difficult. The view is beautiful and we were lucky to see many wildflowers. Hiking through the wilderness with wind in the hair is very refreshing. I recommend this for people who want to hike around the San Ramon area.
There are a lot of trails there so Im definitely going to make multiple trips out. The trails are really nice and you get a great view of everything once you hit the top of the ridge. The parking lot was small but I was there when it wasnt busy so I cant say how it will be on a busy day. Bring plenty of water!
Great place, hikes are uphill, beautiful oak trees on the way, amazing view of Danville and the valley from the top.
We went hiking in Danville to one of our favorite old stomping grounds! Eagles peak! And it was so muddy! We took a game trail when we were almost out of the woods It turned out to be pretty scary! With no gps although the trial map read on the road called no point of return. I didnt think anything of it! It was really muddy and we kept sliding down, down, down and realized we must be going the wrong way we decided to turned back, even though it wasnt the exact way we came bc it was too muddy to climb up the hill. I wasnt giving it much thought....but I kept thinking if we kept going further into the abyss we may have been stuck there bc it was like quick sand..but quick mud. No joke...I was laughing not thinking much!
My favorite go to place for weekly hikes ... its close by to the city yet cut off from the noise and hustle bustle. you can have good stress busting hikes ranging from 1 hr to the 4 hours - pick any as per your time restraints :-).
Very nice area for recreational activities like mountain biking and hiking with great vista views of many local valleys. Most trails are fire trails, rarely plowed, with loose over hard pack dirt mostly, some rocky sections, and some severely torn up by dry mud cow footprints soon after rainy season. Most trails are steep that traverse up the canyons, some very hard up to 40% grade for over 1 mile. Pack water and some more water and food for extended activities. Watch out for the prevalent poison oak, and there are also ticks and snakes. Animals you may find could be cows, turkeys, vultures, wild cats, maybe some deer. Sunscreen any time other than winter but lots of areas are covered with shady trees, but some long sun exposed trails as well. Ridge trail is long and nice bike ride up to about 1800 elevation, makes for some long steep gnarly downhills. Many friendly trails users around so keep an eye out. Pics from 3 different trips, and reason for -1 star is steepness and rough trails.
Excellent trail. Good place for a couple of hrs walk or hiking. Get a good view of major part of San Ramon.
Like walking on top of the world. Breathtaking views in all directions. Beautiful flowers oh, lots of Raptors and some spectacular picnic spots.
A beautiful park that offers INCREDIBLE scenery when you get to the top.
Beautiful trail with nice views. There are some steeps uphills
Amazing spot to look over the East Bay, but a pretty challenging uphill.
Lots of trails with excellent views both to the east and to the west. The ridges are absolutely wonderful to hike on and have a diversity of flora and fauna. In the late spring there are tons of hummingbirds and butterflies. Gates close at 8pm, but if you park in the lot before the gate it only adds on a short walk to get to most of the trail heads. There are ticks out in good numbers come spring, so always make sure to do a tick check when your done.
Decent trails with good views, not crowded even on weekends.
Wonderful nature View and hiking trails.
Great place to hike. Lots of variety, and a number of challenging climbs and descents. There are lots of uncovered areas so make sure and being plenty of water.
Love this spot for great hikes and great views. Very dog friendly, but theres wild cattle so make sure your dog is good under voice control or have them on a leash. Especially great during the winter months when its cooler out.
Wonderful Vistas and more of a backwoods feel to it. Almost like being in the Sierra foothills than in and EBRP. I took the Hickory trail.
Amazing hike. Great for the family. Felt hard initially, but got into the groove in a few mins. Takes about 2hrd to 3hrs depending on your pace. Fantastic views of the entire Bay Area. Definitely going back ...
Las Trampas has lots of great hiking trails. Most of them are bike friendly and all are pretty well maintained. The only reason I gave this four stars was because on one of the main trails (its actually a fire/maintenance road) it took multiple years to repair a small landslide. Despite small maintenance problems, I would definitely recommend giving Las Trampas a visit.
Nice local park. Seems to have many miles of foothill trails with grassy areas. Its a 20 minute hike to the top of the main peak with a nice paved road. From there seems like they want everyone to have some kind of wilderness permit, dont know what thats for but they dont seem to have anyone there to buy it from.
Very nice scale!! I love this place so much
A beautiful and less crowded place.
Paths are a little harder for older people. Was pretty dry.
Lovely place for afternoon walk. However day was cooled by a little fog. Great place for a winter walk. Too sunny & hot for a summer stroll.
One of a very nice hiking trail close proximity to city of San Ramon .
Beautiful parks! Nice wildflowers and green hills in spring. We saw five snakes on the trail.
A hidden gen in the valley of San Ramon. We love to go here. Its an Absolutely beautiful place to hike especially in winters. The trails can get a bit muddy when it rains and sometimes theres no water available. But nonetheless, we love to hike here. I am an avid bird watcher and I have seen Cooper’s Hawk, Golden eagles and Quails frequently. Its a great place for picnicking or biking. I took this shot from my fav trail which starts at the Bollinger staging area. Cheers.
Nice views. Good fire roads. Steep climb to top then rolling. Cows, coyotes, turkeys and sometimes pig sightings. Look for Virgil Williams single track-very pretty
Really nice mountain, city and bay view. Also saw some deers.Park is open from 8:30am to 5:30pm. Dog friendly. Trail heads and ends are well labeled.Sycromore trail was overgrown and a little chalenging to stay on the trail.
Good for beginner hikers. Though some areas are pretty steep but it is not difficult.Part of the park are covered with trees that will keep you cool on hot days. On wet days, you can hike up the cement path if you choose to. Dogs are allowed to walk off leash. Please note that cows are in the park and you may share the path with them sometimes.
Great place to get out and explore.
Great hike. Very pretty there. Long 3 1/2 hour hike. Very peaceful also.
Really great park. Surprisingly rugged! Some fairly steep trails especially if you cross both ridges of the park. Great views of mt. Diablo at the eastern edge of the park.
Love this place! There are easy parts and difficult parts but you can choose which way youd like! You can follow the creek, head up to the ridge and take the loop or keep on hiking up in the trees! There is even a very steep trail that takes you out to San Ramon!!
I usually go up here for a run for training and let me tell you, nothing will get you in better shape than doing some hill sprints up this beast. The payoff after a grueling run or rigorous hike is an amazing view of Mount Diablo. Just beware of some cows that like the graze the areas.
I love this park. Very convenient way to get away. My dog loves it too
First time there today, and loved the experience! Once you get to the summit, there are nearly 360° breathtaking views of the whole Bay Area.
This is great nearby hiking area that connects to a much larger East Bay MUD open space. There is one paved road that starts at the Bollinger Canyon parking lot. Use that (steep) path when it is wet. The remaining trails are well used, but muddy clay when it has rained recently. Great views all over the Bay Area from the top of the ridges. Kids will enjoy finding fossil shell fish in outcrops of marine sandstone along several ridge crests.
Not far from freeway, on the top of the hill you can see ocean.
Nice hike, great views of my Diablo and the Tri valley area.
Nice place to hike. 2 hours. Medium
Started hiking here over forty years ago and still love this place. Park in the parking lot at the very end of Bollinger Canyon and youll notice the paved trail (closed service road) that leads to the top. This road is about a mile long and rises in elevation approximately 1000. The road leads to a an antenna site that sits on the top of the ridge. About a 100 yards to the west, across open fields, is a second ridge from which you can see San Francisco Bay and the skyscrapers in downtown San Francisco. Tremendous views all around. If youre still up for a bit more hiking head south from the antenna site, going parallel to the ridge to the west. As you hike south, along a dirt road through open meadows, youll notice that the ridge to the west drops off sharply and then rises rapidly again. On this second section of ridge, which has lots of trees, there are also many exposed rock formations. In one of these rocky sections is a small sandstone cave that is open to the east but also has a window to the west.
Very pretty, lots of good views when you get up higher
Lovely, challenging trails.
Awesome first time - definitely not the last. Did an easy beautiful loop with the kids. Very enjoyable.

This is a very remote place to hike, despite what GPS might tell you. other published reviews that describe the trails as difficult do not exaggerate too much. the hills are steep and winding, but the views are spectacular (when Bay Area air quality cooperates). you could easily hike half the day without seeing anyone else. posted signs prohibit cyclists in many areas but watch out for them anyway, and definitely bring liquids to stay hydrated. its a workout.
What an amazing trail! I hiked up near the top--about two miles. Its all uphill. Its not an easy hike. The trail is mostly loose gravel and dirt. Its tricky coming down. I could have benefited from poles. Its a workout for sure, but it is beautiful all the way.
Perfect for a few hours of Trek. You can see the bay from the top. Parking space is limited, try to reach early else can park on the other side of trail.
Lots of trail, views are great. Plenty parking spot. Love this park.
This place is real California wilderness. There is a nearby ranch and cows roam the area. There is a creek around the center of the trail and it is very hilly.
Lots of trails, good views. Not much shade.
Very nice cutaway of green space in the Pleasanton hills. Give yourself enough time to make it back down before the gate is locked. Ring plenty of water.
Great trails & not crowded at all. Good place to take your dogs but be careful with the cows & dogs interactions. Saw a very slim coyote crossing the road today on the way back & a dead fox a few weeks ago..
Great for a weekend hike. Lots of steep hills for the avid trekker.
Awesome trails.
Always so many options of trails to chose from. Safe and beautiful.
Got a chance to travel and experience the beauty and so relaxing place in CA. This place was so nice and has a wide and long walking spots which I like the most. The walking area was a lot of amazing and so nice over looking. That was an unforgettable visit.
Watch out for the cows! My family and I got chased by the cows and if it wasn’t for the enclosed picnic area we probably would have gotten hurt by them! This is over by steelhead.
The Bollinger Creek Trail Loop is mostly shaded. It meets the Las Trampas Trail and that is shaded too. Overall a good 3 mile loop hike from the staging area.
Trails well defined. Can bring your dog. Saw a few deers and my kids climbed a few fallen trees. We had a short picnic and it was quiet.
A great local park when I want a more challenging hike. Rugged yet beautiful terrain
Winter is an amazing time to enjoy the green hills. Chamise Trail is 0.8 mile straight up to the ridge.
Great East Bay Regional Park with mostly moderate to strenuous trails Also great views of the east bay and lots of wildflowers and domestic wildlife
Surprisingly wild hike so close to town.
Lots of trails with different elevations. Good for beginners to moderate hikers. Nice views so tri valley, San Francisco and Mt Diablo.
One of the best hiking trail near San Ramon.
One of my favorite hiking location
Nice trails with a good view from the ridge. Some trails can be steep so you will want to bring some nice shoes and go slow. If there is fog in the valley and you take an early morning hike to the ridge you will be rewarded with an amazing sunrise over the clouds.
Love the isolation & all the steep climbs up to the peaks! Very, very muddy this time of year though.
Decent trails and hikes can easily take more than an hour. Nice views award those who visit. Hiking shoes with good treads, hiking sticks and plenty of water are recommended, as well as some snacks. Be ready for some steep, slippery parts, just watch your footing.
Great trails. Variety. Free parking. Restrooms. Animals.
Cool trials
Awesome views, great hike.
My home away from home. Great trails and vistas. You go far enough I can see the golden gate bridge
Very good for a nice hike and when you get to the top of the large hill, there is a magnificent view! It can be a slightly tough hike, but if you pack enough water, then you are okay.
Beautiful hiking trails. I went in the spring, so the hills were covered in grass and wildflowers. The trails were quite steep, but it paid off with great views of the east bay and mount Diablo.
Great hiking trails with a fair amount of shade and lots of beautiful scenery and views.
Good moderate solo hiking spot. Okay amount of scenery.
Spectacular place to hike on a Spring day. Wildflowers in bloom. Gushing streams. Green hills. Simply divine.
Still majestic and unspoiled after all these years. Went there and was happily surprised by the absense of thoughtless littering. Probably ok for the kids to run barefoot in the meadows.
This barn is under new management, and the improvements they have made in such a short time are unbelievable! Management and the boarders we met were lovely and helpful! My friend are looking for a barn to board our horses at, and had looked at this barn before. Were very impressed with the direction the barn is headed. Its a very down-to-earth atmosphere and you can tell that the caretakers really care about the animals and people. And I was told they plan to host trail rides and camps, soon, if you are looking for that!
Is good location no to far the bay area.. but the park dont have to much sings, and look to old everything..
Love the OUTDOORS. GREAT PLACE FOR A HIKE, PERSONALLY I GO TO TAKE PICTURES OF NATURE. GREAT PLACE
A great place to go out and hike!
Quiet, beautiful, and peaceful.
Nice place to hike.
So GORGEOUS...like your a million miles from the Bay Area!!
I came here with a friend on a really hot day, and we did the following trail: Ringtail Cat to Madrone to Las Trampas Ridge to Corduroy Hills to Madrone to Ringtail Cat, in total about 7 miles. It was a typical East Bay hike in that the hills were bare and the view was of the city below, but it was a pretty good hike in terms of difficulty. There were signs at every intersection too which was much appreciated, and there were paper maps at the trailhead. The views we got were pretty decent at some parts! Theres no water on the trail though, so bring some extra just in case!
Great trail with lot of shade, hike even in afternoon. Just go on left side instead of right on the main route.
Great place for a trail run. Gates open at 8:00 am. But there are trailheads you can use if you arrive early. The hill next to the parking lot is a tough one but a good workout for your legs. The views are great once you get to the ridge line. Bring your dog they’ll love it.
