My wife and I love indie movies and very much enjoy having this small theater showing independent films in the area. It may be small and an older facility but its big on entertainment. The movies are always great quality and their concessions are reasonably priced, $4 for a large popcorn is unheard of nowadays, and its the good stuff, not what most theaters serve.

They always show interesting films and the food is cheap!

Independent, no-frills but plenty of character 3-screen theater. Shows smaller release indie and foreign films. Very reasonable prices for tickets and snacks. Classic movie theater popcorn is freshly made and doused with butter on request.

Was looking forward to seeing an indie film here tonight. They sold to capacity which is fine, however there were no 2 seats together. If only someone would have told us 30 minutes prior when we had bought our tickets about this problem that would have been great. Solution would be to sell assigned seats. It will be hard to want to come back

I felt like I was part of a live studio audience. And $1.00 popcorn keeps my wallet fat.

They play very interesting movies here at an affordable price. The concessions stand is also reasonably priced - especially compared to other larger movie theaters. I would recommend finding a unique movie to see here (the one we saw was very... different, although at no fault to the theater and the value you get here). I would go again and see another movie they previewed.

This theater is excellent for viewing movies, has a wonderful, helpful, and friendly staff, and offers a touch of nostalgia in its appearance. The 5-star is because this theater has an excellent selection of smaller, independent, and foreign films that many corporate, larger movie companies dont offer. And with award seadon around the corner, you should get in here soon to find out what movies everyone will be talkong about next year!!

Date night tonight included an intense Palm movie, which meets expectations again...Yummu $1 popcorn was good too!

Love the Palm! Inexpensive tickets, small, more intimate theaters. Food a little less expensive. No fancy reclining seats. Movies more of the independent, art variety. We just saw Mary, Queen if Scots.

A great local theater that shows mostly independent films. They have been making strides recently in getting rid of almost everything I had complaints about. They now take cards and have added a 9:15 show on Friday and Saturday. Also, their concession stand is very reasonable and the popcorn is always fresh! Keep on being awesome palm!

I love these people. Solar panels powering your healthy oil fried popcorn with real butter. They also have screening during the SLO film festival. The coolest hipsters in the WORLD go here. I always sit in the front row!

Cute little theater downtown.

The theatre is older, small, not like your typical metro-plex movie place. I came to a special hour movie about Womens health. They have a small popcorn/ candy counter but I didnt buy anything so I cant offer pricing. The seats were your everyday movie theatre seats, not bad, not great.It was clean and a throwback kind of place.

This funky art movie theater is the best kept secret in San Luis Obispo. See all the movies they dont show in the blockbuster megaplexes. I saw Vice and Cold War recently. Most of the movies that win Oscars play in this little theater. Popcorn prices are excellent. You dont end up paying more for popcorn and cokes than for the tickets.

Good indie movie theater and the only one of its kind in the area. Usually they only play good stuff as well. Cheap popcorn and they accept credit cards now. The first screen is the main one. Its the largest. The other two are small. Screen three is the worst. Its very high up and the seats are kind of in the way of each other. Getting an early seat definitely is a must for this one. Overall its a good local indie theater, not near the quality of a mainstream larger theater, but its the only one in the area and has a great vibe going on.

Fantastic cozy 3 screen movie theater. Know for showing the non main stream movies in the past, that seam to hit the big box movie theaters now a days. Wonderful experience.

Great staff, legendary popcorn, wonderful flicks that you wont see anywhere else, very reasonable pricing for both the movies and the goodies (which are ridiculously low priced compared to the regular theaters). Cozy theatre for alternate, independent shows. Often a filled with aging hipsters (liberal types), their popcorn is a small bag and their buyer is literally a melted stick of the real stuff. Very affordable, small portion snacks and drinks. 100% solar powered. Im not an aging booster and always have enjoyed my experiences here.

Everybody knows the Palm Theatre has the freshest pop corn in town. What they dont know is they also have exceptional ice. Never will your frigid beverage be tainted with low quality ice at the Palm theatre. I practically go to the Palm just for those perfectly angular cubes. What a treat. Wow.

The Palm is simply wonderful. Yes, the screens arent the big crazy ones you see nowadays, but you dont need that to enjoy a good movie. And the movies are really good. On any given week if you comoare reviews of Palm movies vs. The big downtown theater, Palm has undeniably MUCH better rated films. Add that tickets are half as much and concessions are more than reasonable, and you have enough reasons to go.

This is my favorite theater for many reasons. First and most importantly, the movies they show are not mainstream. They are either foreign, indie, documentaries, or animation of a different variety. Also, it is solar powered and there is just this really cool feel about the place. To top it off, the popcorn, candy and sodas are very cheap. Just dont forget to bring cash because they dont take credit cards. Somehow, that just adds to the cool and unique vibe of this place.

Such a quaint little theater in SLO. If you are a fan of independent, foreign, or non mainstream films, this theater is for you. The prices are great. They offer everything a big theater offers at a fraction of the cost. Also, their walls are covered with murals of old and new actors of Hollywood. My favorites happen to be Clark Gable and Marlon Brando. The chairs are a bit small but thats my only con. Im so glad I have had the pleasure to come to this theater. I have a long history with the Palm Theater. When I lived closer I used to buy the passes. I was there almost every weekend. A wonderful place, with great people, great atmosphere and great movies.

I love this theater!

I came here to see the new Suspiria film after almost losing hope that it wasn’t going to show in any theaters around the SLO area. Thankfully I came across the Palm theater which apparently shows tons of great independent films! I was a little worried about the quality at first seeing this is a bit smaller of a theater in the online reviews. From pictures it was hard to tell how small the screens were but in person, even though they’re a bit smaller than a normal theater screen, they are actually just about the perfect size. Apparently they upgraded their sound systems to Dolby 5.1 a few years ago and I’m happy to say the sound was also pretty good, especially since they dim all the lights when the movie starts and close the door to block outside noise which are two things that can really make or break an experience for me. Seats were comfortable and from what I could tell were in good shape. Can’t wait to come back for another indie flick to check off my watch list!

Decidedly low tech...which is one of its charms...a real asset to SLO for folks who are tired of standard 50-plex experience...

How many theaters can you walk into and get pop corn and soda for under $5? They feature indie movies and its off the main street so you dont to fight a crowd to get there. Parking garage right across the street!

Its a funky, solar powered theater. Has the best selection of movies that dont aim to be big box office hits. Try it, youll like it.

The Palm Theater is the GO TO place for Indie films in San Luis Obispo. A little old, and a bit worn in places, but still a great place for the films one might not have access to otherwise. Consider that the place is solar powered - wow - and a big supporter of the Annual film Festival - a big plus - I feel our town is lucky to have such a fine theatre. with the parking structure across the street, this is such an easy choice.

Only art theater in SLO County. Great movies, reasonable prices, nice, comfortsblec atmosphere.

This is the only art house movie theatre in the county, offering more challenging US and foreign films with more substance than the general release comic book hero and animated offerings. It is small but offers multiple screens, less expensive ticekts and movie food fare and senior discounts. It also periodically hosts movie festivals and special showings. Well worth a visit.

Simple cinema.

The seats are narrow and the screens are small but the heart there is huge. One of the most sentimental theaters in my long drawn out life.

Independent movie theater. Old but classic. Snacks are inexpensive compared to the other movie theaters in town. Cash only.

There is never a bad film at the Palm. They have the widest variety of foreign and avant guard movies. Im never disappointed.
