Challenging but nice hiking trails. Prepare to go up and down. 100 ft elevation per mile is a norm. Most of the trails have more than that. Mountain lions, coyotes and bobcats are seen pretty much often so keep your dog on leash all the time
Superb. A bit of shade on the some of the paths. If on foot, opt for the trails that ban mountain bikes for a safer and less dusty experience.
The views are beautiful and trail is well maintained. Suggesting to visit this place specially on early spring period. If you takes a side on picks and wait a little maybe youll have opportunity to watch eagles very closed to you. We were lucky to have one just above our heads and the eagle was so royal. Great expiariance for kids. By the way the loop is very suitable for families and Id say its less than moderate. Part of it is closed due new parallel road build recently that takes you far from the lake (probably there is a reason for that) and last part of the trail is also closes. So... see my recorded trail, its accurate.
Great park for mountain biking. Some relatively easy terrain as well as challenging climbs like the wall as well as short and long trails where one can spend from 30 mins to 3 hours. Plenty of wildlife such as turkeys, deer, snakes, bobcats and mountain lions. Bring plenty of water with you.
The wild flowers are abundant... some of the trials are muddy... be prepared....
We did that 5 and a 1/2 mile trail on and 89゚ day and that was pretty long
Not a lot of amenities. There are portajohns, a water fountain, picnic tables and steps for climbing on your horse in the large parking lot. Most of the trails are wide, but steep. Be ready for a strenuous workout, particularly during the heat of the day. Great views!
Very nice trail for mtb. It has a lot of shade
Beautiful park with lake and surrounding hills. Has fishing, boating and hiking trails.
Nice trails and loops for kids and adults. Nice views. Plenty of sunshine, not a lot of shade. Views of the surrounding hills. Best in spring time.
Really nice wide trail to hike on with lots of views around every corner.
This place is absolutely incredible! It is a wonderful place for hiking and mountain biking. The views are amazing including the reservoir. You can hike from Calero into other parks as well through the trail system.
Love this place. A bit hot in the summer but still awesome!
Rode my horse here, trails were well maintained, you the views were magnificent.
This is an awesome hike! The parking is incredibly easy and the trail head is right next to the lot. WIN. Its great for year round hiking because of the openness. Not so great in the heat of summer, unless you enjoy a death march. Theres not much tree cover. If you go in the summer, go early. We like to head out to the Bat House and back. Its about 4.5 miles and under 2 hours if youre going at a good pace. Beautiful views of Coyote Creek golf course and the reservoir. There are plenty of neat trails to choose from as well.
Found this spot on a course through town. Very peaceful...numerous trails to choose from. Parking avalible.
There is plenty of parking and the place does not get too crowded. The views are beautiful especially with all the rain, everything is green. Be prepared to get muddy !
Great trails, but some areas are closed, and others seem to be lacking maintenance.
Good hike for a cloudy day. It may be hot in the summer. Not too many people which is nice. Too many ticks.
Nice views, can get busy, go early.
Good hiking trails, though all are open to equestrian so you need to dodge the occasional mound o horse dung. Good mix of both open and tree-shaded trails, though the latter require hiking up the hill a bit from the main entrance. There is a back entrance that looks interesting but I havent checked it out yet.
Park with a lot of trails, most of which well maintained, some slightly rutted. Some trails have little shade, which makes hiking in the summer challenging.
Awesome place to hike. It was a bit muddy and slippery when we went, but I would come back. It was very peaceful and quiet which I really liked. I would come back to hike again.
Wonderful place to go for a walk with kids! Parking is free and this is one of place that you can see spring super bloom
A place to get in a REAL hike! Alot of hill work at this park and a must to get through before the heat because it can get pretty hot. The views are beautiful and you can spot wild life everywhere if you happen on the path at the right time!
Very beautiful and peaceful park, hike around the oat cove trail, it’s very scenic!
I never get tired of Calero! Now with Rancho San Vicente added, you can hike, ride horses, or bike from Rancho Canada del Oro to Almaden Quicksilver!
Great for mountain bike riding!
Great place for outdoor activities.
Beautiful view to Loma Prieta, Mount Umunhum.
The trails were lovely! Lots of hills to tire your legs out.Unfortunately hikers with horses do not follow the rules and leave horse dung ALL over the trails.
One of my favorite local gems for hikes. I rarely come across other hikers which is the way I prefer it.
Can hkke over the hill to Ranch canada del oro open space.
The Figueroa Trail up to Fish Camp is a lovely and realtively easy ride, and well shaded for part of it which is a lovely break on hot days. The stop at Fish Camp has a tie-rail for horses, a picnic bench overlooking a cute lake, and a trough of water to refresh the animals. Keep it relaxed by retracing your steps home, or cover new ground on the steeper alternative trails.
Great place for hiking while so close to San Jose.
Volunteered to help build a new trail coming soon to Calero.
Great hikes.
This is a beautiful park. Nice trails. We look forward to walking more trails here.
Easy trails, not too many people, and overall a great spot to hike.
Fav park in Almaden
SAR Team night navigation drill was cool. Nice flats with gradual inclines/declines.
Great park with well laid out hiking paths
Nice place to take a walk or hike. There’s a reservoir for boating. Parking is easy. There may be rattlesnakes on the trail.
Fun for everyone
Natures best for stress and this was a very nice stress reliever walking through this park. I recommend coming here to get away from the day to day
Good place to go walking, kinda hilly though, can get Hot also bring water.
Great, had fun and caught a decent size large mouth Bass!
Nice trails
A fairly long, challenging hike to the lake from the parking lot. Great views of valley oaks etc.
Its great scenery but lacks more portable potties along trail.
I love taking this scenic drive. If you go far enough there are tiny farms you can stop and pet the horses.. they come right up to the gate. Mainly I enjoy the drive and sunset.
My name is Julie Miller - Sat. Nov 7, 2014. I let my husband & son out at the gate by the dam as I usually do. So my husband doesnt have to walk as far in pain. I then went & parked closest to the dam,in the lot then walked to where they were fishing. About 4:45 we heard the siren of the ranger truck & couldnt make out what she was saying. Thought since it was still 15 minutes to sunset, she was calling out to the boaters to get off water. 5 minutes later, she did it again. So, I headed to my car so it wouldnt get locked in. Besides me, there were 2 other vehicles in lot. I got to my car & this ranger had parked directly behind me, for some reason. I loaded my things into my car. As I started to go round to get in, she gets out of her truck. As I had done nothing wrong I kept going til she asks if I was fishing. Yes. Did I know park closes as sunset. Ya, wasnt sunset yet that was at 5:01 & it was about 4:55. with who? well, thats basically none of her business. But I answered, she ask me if I had a fish license. Why? I wasnt on the water, was trying to leave. I said yes, She asked to see it, asked why? Whats with the attitude? she asks, well, Im trying to get out of your lot & you get out of truck with an attitude, all your doing is harassing me for no reason. I told her maybe if she doesnt want an attitude dont give one or have one yourself, especially when I had done nothing wrong. then she asks for my driver license.seriously? There were 2 other cars there, I asked if she was going to play games with them too. My feeling is, I was at my car not sunset yet, not last one in lot, all she should have done was wait up by the gate & lock it when we all out. All the rest, blocking me from leaving, asking dumb questions, asking to see fish license when not by water, ask for driver license- when no moving violation had happened. What she did was ridiculous & Im definitely going to report her. As visitors of that park, that we help fund by paying fees, help pay her salary, overstepping and ruining a good day, she needs to realize she cant just to what she wants we have rights. If it was after sunset, if I had done something wrong sure, then ask whatever - otherwise, I didnt have to show you anything I didnt have to answer her stupid questions and we dont have to put with unnecessary harassment.
Gr8 place to relax and enjoy the outdoors..
Very nice to get a hike with your dog or your horse. The place is not very crowded and offers very good view over the hills around. It is also a quiet and inspiring place.
Take a quick hiking through Serpentine Trail. Very nice. Lots of horse dropping, though.
Great trails
One of the few places that was open for boating during the drought. Took some Scouts canoeing here. Great facility - picnic tables, grills, porta potties. I was surprised that it was not very crowded at all. Definitely coming back here.
Hiked from the new trailhead off Mckean. Lots of parking and the trails are well maintained. Be sure to take water because one of the trails is a 7 mile loop and there is no short cut back.
Orienteering was great!
Its a good place to ride horses unless you go during a shooting session
Beautiful park. Great for hiking and horseback riding. Not too crowded, many wildlife!
Beautiful vistas. Miles and miles of trails. Have never seen it get crowded.
Lots of smooth lonely trails with nice views
Beautiful park. Lovely hiking trails
In late March this place is so green it looks like a screensaver.
Always nice to see land be dedicated to something other than homes or a shopping mall, great place to hike
Nice trails and views. Quite a bit of elevation changes which give some interesting perspectives.
Beautiful Place to hike, run, jog and to relax. Some areas shaded and some are exposed. Multiple Hiking trails range upto 18+miles
Wonderful place for a weekend walk or trekking! Relaxing serene lake to meditate!
A fantastic place to hike. Lots of wildlife.
Good mix of different hiking trails and some nice views of the surrounding area. A bit out of the way but can you really complain?
A great park for hikes; with a little of everything. One of the gems of the Coyote area.
Nice vistas and good connection to other neighboring parks
Calero has an extensive trail system, and shares some of those with the neighboring Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Preserve. Despite the miles of trails, this is far from my favorite park given the nature of the trails, lack of interesting views (for most part), and constant and steep climbs and descents. If youre visiting, try to get to the higher elevations, where things are better and youll have a nice view of the reservoir.
Very nice
Nice park. I like bike trip on this place!
The Ranger staff is awesome. I have never found staff as welcoming as them.
Great sight seeing
Good for hiking, but trails are not shaded.
Its ok. Good for sport fishing
I like this park!
Many interesting trails
Typical California hills
Excellent
Ok when spring to hike, but disappointed no wildflowers just stickers!
Great trails for day hiking and picnicking
Nice workout ...
Great trails and horses!
Nice park hiking trails
Nice scenery.
