Whenever I am in CA I made a trip down to San Jose specifically to see the quilt museum. I dont quilt, but I do collect fabric art and own quilts from the 1880s to now. Each show is worthwhile. I admire the creativity of the various artists and what they make. Not all are quilts. They normally display some of the historic quilts along with the contemporary fabric art. Its a small museum, so go down the block to the other galleries. Then see the San Jose Art museum and enjoy the restaurants in the area too. Christmas in downtown SJ is an annual event.

Tiny and VERY compelling. I dont really know how to deconvolve the particular exhibits that were there from the museum at large, as its my first time, but their choices of exhibits were absolutely phenomenal. The pictures simply dont do them justice, but they all had a presence of their own, saying and whispering and singing and showing you lifetimes of stories.

This is a hidden gem of San Jose. You would have to come here and appreciate the artwork of these artists. The quilt technique and the fabrication that they used are incredibly intricate.

Small museum. 4 galleries. Really terrific exhibits. I quilt but not like these textile artists! Highly recommended if youre into textile art, sewing, quilting, or just cool stuff.

Such a great museum! Nice and small, do- able in an hour or so...

Smaller than I expected, however the work was more powerful than I imagined. I will go again. There were more embroidery projects than quilts and nothing traditional.

Fantastic exhibits right now! So creative! Not expensive, and teachers are free.

Walked in on first Friday and and I was originally enticed into the venue by a stone art sign they had outside. Thinking it was sculpted art and missing the signs that read the museum of quilts and textiles I was taken back when I saw that the stone art was quilted, but then I became enamored and lost into the stitching and detail that was in each piece throughout the room and then further on throughout the water pieces. It was amazing and will come back again.

This place is truly a gem. The exhibits are always fascinating. We visit the museum and its store frequently.

Great little museum. Current exhibits are meme quilts and a very talented quilter who has absolutely nailed the textures of hair in her series of glimpses into village life in Africa.

Beautiful quilts, lovely staff. We got a tour and some demos on folding cloth into bags. Very cool place!

Just remarkable exhibits of artwork involving fabrics and materials. You will be shocked (pleasantly) by the mastery on display! A real discovery--and just the right size for 1 or 2 hour art-venture!

Very nice place to visit. The name says it all for the exhibits displayed.

Beautiful musem just wish the hours were more accommodating on weekends than on weekdays but I assume its for the school. Either way I had a great experience and I didnt even finish because they close at 3 but just beautiful need to take more than 45 minutes to view everything.

Visiting this place ws a spiritual experience. Firstly was excited to know that such a museum exists. Got to see that quilting has been taken at a different level.

Very special museum for lovers of textile art.Originally a quilt museum it now includes all types of fabric art from all over the world.I always enjoy the carefully curated exhibits and some have been extraordinary meriting return visits.

The San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles is a.small.passive display of the works and collections of locals.. Although the space is circumscribed, with a little imagination it could be used in a far more interactive and interesting way. What they have on display is interesting, but it is a small and umimmaginative exhibition with limited appeal.

Great for a weekend excursion. Focused rotating exhibits. A unique museum. Sometimes offers neat events for kids.

Hosts international exhibitions of fiber art and maintains research collection of historical quilts. Excellent gift shop featuring local artists. Live classical guitar music at First Fridays.

Great place for the whole family

While it isnt a huge museum, its an excellent place to check out if youre nearby. They also arent afraid to take more political stances, and they proudly display a stunning textile featuring Trayvon Martin. If you can come here during First Friday, dont expect to find alcohol. However, you will find an excellent DJ set, a welcoming crowd, and artwork that will delight and surprise you.

A small, but charming museum in downtown San Jose. It has a very nice gift shop as well.

Regular changing exhibits never fail to delight and educate. We return every few months to see the works of amazing artists in this small but well curated museum. A delightful, little known San Jose treasure!

Lovely quilts that show immaculate sewing and artistic sense. These are wonderful and, I feel, are often ignored by people in this rush world. Tech is great, but this is old tech and is lovely!

Fascinating integration of technology to create fabric art

I really enjoyed my visit (back in october 2015)!The handquilted exhibition was awesome, the one about art in prison really made me think so many things, like freedom through creativity... Staff was super nice, the store was cool, the only thing I didnt like that much was the price.Overall, would recommend if you are into textiles.

Staff was super friendly, and eager to answer questions.

They always have interesting shows, and with only four rooms, you can enjoy all of it in a reasonable amount of time.

Interesting fabric art. Definitely worth a visit

Awesome visit! A must visit if youre a quilter.

Although the facility has lots of square footage and wall space, the exhibit was limited to an anti-gun political statement. Quilts have been used as a political tool before, e.g. the under ground railroad, however there was nothing else to see. A disappointing experience for a facility with such potential!

I am a quilter and admire quilts and eagerly went to the Kaffe Fassett show, but was quite disappointed with my visit. The museum is quite small, so even if the show is interesting, theres not a lot to see. Also the place is hard to find from on-line directions, and we spent almost as long trying to get there once we were in SanJose as we spent at the exhibit. The final nail was that we had planned to go for First Friday Free but were told (rather rudely) that the first Friday in July was not included as a free Friday, and they made us pay the $6.50 Senior fee. On the whole I would recommend that you skip this and go to a local guilds show instead.

Not a very exciting place, though there are a few beautiful quilts. Maybe this place just isnt for me.
