This is a great place for hiking and mountain biking. Extensive trails with lots of elevation not too much traffic. Beautiful scenery, reservoir and a creek. Some historic buildings.

Quicksilver is a great place to hike whether you want a short hike or you like to go for miles. There are multiple entrances so make sure you do your homework before you set out. Plenty of wildlife to see; bobcats, coyotes, rattlesnakes, turkeys, deer etc. Get out there and get some fresh air.

One the best places to hike in the bay. Trail had very nice views. It is best to bring the map provided at the trailhead or you might get kind of lost on the trails and miss out on seeing old mines. It has a decent amount of shade but also exposed areas. Check for ticks on the dog. I found a tick on my dog even though he was leashed and walking on the trail. The trails have a couple of old mines and abandoned barns from the 19th century.

Had an amazing hike here recently. Trails feel like walking through forest at times, well marked with directions and map. Kid friendly, saw many families hiking together. Will be returning and highly recommend for others.

So many trails to choose from! Lots of wide open trails for social distancing as well! There is plenty of shade if you want it, and lots of elevation and incline too! I come here often and always enjoy it

There are a lot of trails here with short to long hikes. There was plenty of parking and great bathrooms. I also liked that there were historical information signs about the mining that took place here in the past. It was pretty and quiet. Id recommend it.

This park has awesome trails with gorgeous views. The animals are roaming more freely now that humans arent intruding as much. We spotted a couple of mountain lions. So please be on the look out and retreat if you spot one.

Beautiful view. Only issue is there is poison oak everywhere! Narrow trails vary in width, watch out for trees roots in trail and unsteady trail edges. Long way down if you fall, plus aforementioned poison oak.

A bite sized adventure close to the Bay, New Almaden feels like a taste of the last wild days of the wild west. A six-ish mile hike, round trip, from the Mockingbird Hill entrance takes you to three abandoned mine sites dating from between the 1860s and 1900: the April Tressel, the San Cristobal tunnel, and the Buena Vista Shaft. Shorter (or much longer!) hikes are possible, depending on what you want to see. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen, as there is little shade on some trails, and many are steeply up or down hill. Depending on the season, the creeks here can be lovely, though they were completely dry on our last visit. You likely wont see any cinnabar, the red mercury ore that was mined here, but all the same it is fun to keep an eye out for the green serpentine throughout the park, polished here and there by the boots of hikers over the last 50 years.

Super wide trails.Trail signs could be more detailed so make sure to pull up a digital version of park maps. Very spotty cell phone connections too.

Easy to get to, 3 widely separated entrances, free parking, challenging trails, and historical interest. You can hike 4 miles to more than 12. Except for summer heat, you could easily make this your weekly hiking spot.

This is our go to hiking trail on the weekends. Lots of history and beautiful scenery.

Great hiking spot! There are trails with shade and without. A lot of uphill and Im out of shape currently, so other than feeling like I was going to collapse, it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the old buildings in English Town and also seeing some old mine shafts now covered by rocks. So you think youre looking at a pile of rocks, but once you get what youre looking at, its interesting to think there are miles of cinnabar tunnels below you!

Great variety of trails. Some are wide and good biked too, others can only be enjoyed on feet.

I love this park. There are many options for trails. It is very nice for easy and long walk.

One of my favorite places to hike in California, if not in the world! You could go to this place a dozen times and go on a new trail each time. Each entrance has its own distinct trails with varying scenery and difficulty level.A great place to get some fresh air and enjoy the diverse flowers and wildlife.

It’s a beautiful park with great hiking. People also bike, hog, ride their horses and walk their dogs. Views are gorgeous and there’s great variety of terrain - sunny hills, shady forest, lakeside etc. Hills are not too steep.I parked on the street (McAbbee Rd) which was free and easy. You can do QuickSilver 5mile loop from there. (See pictures). Entrance has restrooms (Porto potty).Overall fantastic place for hiking.

No so big inclines but still has some beautiful views. Can be hot sometimes and some of trails dont have much cover so bring sun protection and lots of water.

Open spaces, some shaded paths, wide vistas and good public restrooms make a trip here a delight.

Beautiful views and aroma of flowers stunning.We also visit ranger station- lady was very knowledgeable. Give us a map and suggest us what we can see and knew Park very well.Love it.

Great park for hiking!

I took my kids to two loop trails here in the last 3 weeks. They got the necessary exercise and I got a chance to fantasize riding my dust covered Santa Cruz all mountain bike on these trails. Some rock gardens and narrow single tracks at lower elevations, wide gravel fire roads on top. Not too many people during the lockdown. A good place to get away from things.

Started at Guadalupe Reservoir, went to Almaden Quicksilver and back.Very pleasant hike.I recommend going left as almost everyone else starts going right, constantly having to deal with others that are either going faster or slower and you dont get that quiet privacy most of us like to enjoy solo, or with your hiking mate. Definitely will do it again, or explore the other trails.

Wood Road hike=easy! Easy, good terrain and great views. Perfect for a quick hike with your dog. Be sure to pack a few poop bags.

Great place to hike near San Jose. Alot of trails and choices to take. They all connect in a loop. Very scenic place.

Typical Bay Area foothill hiking, but as the name suggests, this is the sight of a former quicksilver mining operation. As such, there are a lot of sights to see scattered along the trails. One of the best stops is English Camp. Take a picture of the posted maps & learn about our history as you hike.

Nice hiking trails, lots of history about the old money in the area. Benches and tables can be found around while hiking

Great place to hike. Many trail options. Especially like the old English trail (named may be incorrect).

Nice elevation, trees and little bodies of water. Definitely hotter climate, so bring lots of water and a hat!

Beautiful trails, you can choose the length of your hike. The Mine Hill trail is half shaded, half open, a good amount of uphill hiking provides for a nice workout and great views of San Jose.

Easy trail with 40% shades. Nice view and historic.

Love that this place is in my backyard. Great trails that connect right to Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. So nice!

Nice network of trails set in the hills near San Jose. Well maintained trails. Free parking. Large parking lot. Many of the trails were multi-use -- available for hiking, biking, and horse back riding. A few small streams for water sources. Horse troughs and picnic tables scattered throughout the trail systems. And several old historical mining sites to hike to. Will definitely go back to try more trails. Lovely place for a hike. So many trails to choose from. There are 3 park entrances. Parking is free. It’s never too busy. Make sure to take a map and view the topography as some of the trails and quit steep and are not for all fitness levels. Some trails allow horses and mountain bikes. There are lots of wildlife to observe such as deer, birds of prey, and gophers. Good place to see spring wildflowers.

There are nice loops for hiking here. It is already dry. Sunday is busy. Some hiking trails are not COVID friendly, meaning is was hard to pass people on narrow trails. Some people not wearing masks.

Great trails that are well maintained and marked. Parking was a breeze. Less than half of the hikers are wearing face masks, so be sure to bring one.

Been here twice this month. Nice easy walks up the hill. The trails are well marked. Great views at the top. Plenty of people but plenty of space as well. Its family friendly for sure. Love it!

Hidden away for some quick quiet hikes.

Back in the early 80s, when I was a kid, my friends and I would spend most of our time in New Almaden and the mountains. We used to get chased out by authorities but it is open to everyone now. Go figure...Be careful...There is still some deliverance type people up there.Warning given..

Numerous good hikes. Quiet on the weekdays but can get busy on the weekends. However last weekend with the virus going on it was crazy busy. I will not go there again on the weekend.

Really nice place to hike which is not crowded. Plenty of parking and the scenic view is awesome.

After a very worthwhile stop by the museum, we headed out to the park for a good hike. Lots of great places to learn some history, stop for a bite to eat, or grab a picture of some fantastic views. Lots of locals are out for exercise, but a fair amount of people doing the loop to take in some history as well; something for everyone! We werent sure if it wasnt more crowded because it was the week before Christmas or if it was because maybe not so many people know about this place.

Lots of Nature & remnants of the mines from the 1800s. Awesome views of the Silicon Valley and the countryside of the Ancient Almaden Valley. Perfect for hiking & mountain biking even for equestrians.

Nice trail. Not too intense. Nice mixture of sun and shade.

We entered through Mcabee entrance and passed through Senador Mine. Went through Guadalupe trail and looped back through Mine hill trail and exited through same entrance. It was moderate level trek with some elevation and you get a look of Guadalupe Reservoir too in this loop! Have fun.

Seemed well-maintained. I enjoyed the hike. Some sections of the trail or very steep for short distances, but all groomed. Some trails are clearly maintenance vehicle access roads, so theyre easy to follow.

I’ve been going here since a kid, great wide open grass fields for playing ball or flying a kite. The lake is full of bass, some very large because it has mercury and can’t be eaten, if your kid can’t catch a fish here he’s not trying bathrooms are very clean

What an awesome place to get some trail running training! Im training for a ultra trail run and this was perfect. Theres so many trails and such a vast majority of elivation shifts that your options are endless! If youre going to run or hike I recommend the trails that are designed for just that. The trails that are open to all types of activities was OK, but I loved having my solitude and when I took one of the all traffic trails I had people walking dogs, alot of bikers and big trucks working on the trails. So just and FYI, on the others it was just me for the and I loved it!!! I saw about ten dear in a three hour time span and so many other animals. Thankfully no big cats!

McAbee entrance, is popular and in a neighborhood so parking can be hard. May get crowded on weekend mornings. Good place for a hike or run, with a mix of shade & sun, elevation gain is around 700-800 feet. No mountain biking at this end of Almaden Quicksilver park, you need to go the New Almaden Hacienda entry. Outhouses provided a quarter mile up the trail from the entrance.

I love this hike. The initial climb up to the top can be somewhat challenging but once you get up there, the view is amazing. Lots of trails and places to explore. Bring food and plenty of water. This park offers free parking which is always a bonus.

If you visit this park, watch out for mountain lions and rude people.Also, be mindful of the environment, dont throw garbage anyware in the park. Yes, babana, orange peals, plastic battles, powerbar wrappers & eggshells are considered garbage. Also, dont polute the airways with loud music (lets face it, nobody wants to hear your lousy music)

Great trails for early morning hiking/biking. Start early to beat the heat/sun and bring plenty of water!

Multiple trails, we took one that was about 5 miles. Great for kids!

I started at the Mockingbird Hill entrance and took the Hacienda Trail which is a great uphill downhill trail. Perfect cardio!Dog are allowed but make sure you check yours for ticks. I picked them out from time to time and counted 15+Watch your steps! I saw a 1 foot long rattle snake in the middle of the walkway sunbathing.

The parking lot is an amazing place to take photos of the clouds or the raptors.

This entrance is unique and it shows the history of this place using placards. This was the first mine in California and you can get a feel of how it must be during its mining days, the trams used to transport mercury, light house, some old equipment etc.You can use this trail for hiking or bike riding. Its a steep trail though.

Love this place, great to reflect especially the not so frequently used trails.

Simply beautiful. Nice walking and hiking trails, beautiful and lush green grass and nature. Families come here with their dogs and children. Great for single hikers as well. I love to come here and decompress and destress.

My favorite place to go hiking. Its relatively close to our house and big enough to get lost. One of the not well known gems of nature in the South Bay. There is even a museum near the South entrance dedicated to the history of the park and the mining that happened there during the Gold Rush.

This is a great place to hike because it’s good exercise but doesn’t take much time. We like to do this hike on Saturday mornings or weekday evenings after work. It’s dog friendly and my golden doodle loves it too! There’s a loop that’s about 3 miles and another one about 5 miles. You can choose which one depending on how much time you have or the amount of exercise you want to do.

One of our new favorites in the Bay Area! There are over 35 miles of trails suitable for all skill levels with views of San Jose and the Santa Cruz Mountains. An eagle scout troop labeled all the many historical sites throughout the park, so make sure you grab a brochure before you embark upon your adventure. Dog friendly with lots of great lunch spots.

Had a nice hike here. Started around 10am so it wasnt too hot. A lot of the trails are tree covered so its easier to stay cool than some other places, like Pinnacles National Park. Be aware that most of the trails are narrow so cant really walk side by side. What is cool about the trail we did was that it felt like we walked through various unique areas, forest, meadow, mountain, etc...

Great trails for all levels of hikers.

Grew up in New Almaden roaming those hills. Remember that mercury ore was being dug here by local Indians before the Spaniards arrived, before San Jose existed, before the Gold Rush. These hills were once a bustling metropolis with thousands of people. All grown over by trees and grass.As you walk, think of the miles upon miles of tunnels and shafts, many still open though inaccessible, not far below your feet.

We hiked the mine hill trail to the abandoned mine you can see near the top. Its a little tricky to find, and a steep uphill climb, but its a good workout and very neat to see. We took the English camp trail back to the parking lot and got to see where English camp used to be. Very interesting; I didnt know that about the area. The hike on English camp trail is steeper and not as shaded as mine hill trail. I cant wait to come back and explore.

The park is good for a quick stroll. The hikes are not bad either since the slopes are quite gentle. There is plenty of parking available since not a lot of people visit it. I wouldnt recommend it for the views though, there are other parks in the area with much better views.
