Not sure why I would rate penguin Island without ratng the entire San Francisco Zoo. But since its a category, five stars penguin Island and a bonus star (if I could) for being right next to the cutest otters in San Francisco
What a gem. The kids love watching the adorable penguins go about their day to day.
Im visiting Oakland/San Francisco from out of town, and while here, my sister-in-law and I decided to visit the San Francisco zoo. We really enjoyed seeing Penguin Island, and would definitely recommend the entire zoo to anyone. You can sit and watch the penguins swim and play, both in the water and on their island. One of my favorite parts was watching the penguin keeper feed all the penguins. They do feedings at 10:30am and 3:30pm, and the penguins are all so cute. According to the zoos website, they maintain the largest and most successful breeding colony of Magellanic penguins in captivity, and they continue to have successful breeding seasons each year. Would definitely visit again.
Love good ️ thx
This is a not so hidden gem in Griffith Park. Its a free historical site of the Penguin Island at The San Francisco Zoo. The cages are still there. Its a perfect picnic spot. Its an interesting place to explore. I love urban exploration so this is a great spot without too much of a hike to get there. Be aware there is wildlife in the area. Last time I was there I saw wild dogs/coyotes.
It was great love how it was built
Parking is limited. Got there early and lots of the animals where on sleep mode. Closes a bit early. But not too bad worth the $23 admission.
I love penguins so when I saw this I was impressed. They seem more fun and having fun then the ones in Utah but the zoo all together was amazing
3:30 PM is usually the penguin feeding. An expert comes out and talks about their behaviors and diet, they will even tell you some unique traits.During February they had a local school make Valentines cards for the penguins to use to make their nests, it was the sweetest touch.
Wonderful place always changing, big playgrounds for kids.

They were being fed so it made for great entertainment. So cute!!!!
Theyre so cute! I could watch the penguins all day
It feels new and energetic to watch them swim and play. Would 100% recommend watching
Really cool to see the penguins and learn that penguins dont always need to be in areas that are frigid cold.
I went there last week to take some shots of the baby penguins and naming ceremonies. It was a confused day. There were many groups, crowds. I forgot to load my SD card. My second time ever. It was drainingly cloudy. Try to plan your day better with better goals.
Soooo cool. Great atmosphere
They seem like they are having a lot of fun!
The presenter during feeding time was excellent with the penguins.
Best exhibit by far. Theyre like cute footballs.
The warm water penguins swam almost like a school of fish or flock of birds in unison and that was quite graceful like a spontaneous ballet of motion. The young children were mesmerized by them as were their adult parents.
Awesome place to go with the fam .. I have 3 boys and they enjoyed our day at the zoo
Penguins adorable. Swim non-stop and look around for visitors
So much fun.
Fun experience for the kiddos, open air penguin exhibit was new for us.
Good vibes all around
Daughter got to touch on she was so happy
Amazing. Nice place
Beautiful zoo so many interesting animals.
The little devils really like to preen for the audience.
Good place for family visit
Lots of entertaining birds! Zoo keeper feedings are fascinating to watch,as the penguins are patient and no squabbling!
The whole zoo is so much fun! Well worth the membership for locals.
SF zoo is always fun with the kids and penguin island is a great place to start.
Because theyre cute
Watching the zoo staff feed the penguins is very entertaining. The penguins can swallow whole fish and are insatiable. It does kind of smells between the fish for food and the penguins but it is well worth it.
Theres something relaxing about sitting on a bench watching the penguins play and swim.
Penguins are my favorite animal and it is great that they have benches for you to sit on and enjoy watching them!
Beautiful area with penguins at full display. Watch them play on land and water!
Eh not the best. Cool but not the best
The penguins are very close up. Very cool to check out
Super cute and quite nice area
Fun little guys swimming around.
Its an island full of penguins...so...pretty much the best

Wonderful place to see lot penguins.
Excellent zoo.
Honestly, a rather disappointing zoo. On the plus side, the whole thing can be traversed in half a day.
S. F. Zoo. Good place for kids 10 and under
I had a really good time.
Its an island...with penguins. Its in the middle of the zoo so I dont know why theres a separate review for this when you still have to pay zoo entrance to see it
Very nice to visit and relax
I saw a chubby one that couldnt hop up the steps he happily swam away. Would watch again 10/10
Great place to explore
One of my favorite birds. Although captive they seem to enjoy themselves.
I love the. Zoo is asun I love the pegwen
Love the place!!
Cute animals
Its a very sad depressing looking area as if they dont do anything, the only places that have more than one animal is the giraffes and Penguins everybody else is 2 / area
This zoo is incredible!
Very kid friendly place
Lots of penguins make nice entertainment
I love the Penguin Island. I take my kids there every Sunday.

Coolest place in the zoo.
The nature is beautiful
Pretty fun to see the penguins swimming and eating. Smells like fish.
Live penguin feeding is fun to watch if you can stand the awful stink around this place.
Always missed the feeding...the aroma here...smells like fried fish
Great family outing
So so.
Grandson was amused. Should really have snow or shaved ice for them to emulate their environment
Pleasant environment
Watch your step dude!
So beautiful
