Yes, this is in the Tourist Trappy area of SF, no doubt about it. Yet, at the same time. This has to be one of the coolest touristy event tours I have ever taken, was here with a group I was previously a member of. This place is just a total kick in the pants!!!! Come check it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scary place! but very interactive, fantastic storyline and a great experience.
Very interactive and a great experience! Fantastic storyline and it was pretty entertaining! Its a great deal to buy the dungeon and madam tussauds wax museum. Havent been there for years, but to my surprise, its interactive now where you can use provided props for fun pictures .
Great place to visit whenever you happen to be in San Francisco and tells of its dark history. This is a type of trill attraction that works in stages, this means that at first it doesnt seem that scary but it gradually intensifies. There is a drop ride element to this attraction that is maybe a 10-20 foot drop. There is a height requirement and they do give you the option to skip this part if you so choose to. Parental discretion is advised, this attraction has subject matter that some would say is not suitable for young children.
This is such a unique thing to do! This was my first time in the area and I was alone for a work trip. I decided to give this place a try and Im so glad I did! The staff is very friendly and all the actors are phenomenal! Everything is very well done and I highly recommend visiting.
Really cool and fun place for friends.
Nice and funnily scary! Must visit to explore sf history like never seen before!
Had a great time here. Very well worth the money. Acting was great as well the actors they hired to do the shows were the best part of the show and really did a great job. Highly recommend this as well as the wax museum.
Oh boy! Not for faint-hearted.Forewarning - I do not recommend going with kids/toddlers. It might be a horrifying experience for them.I made the mistake of accompanying my 5-year-old, & trust me it scared her like anything. They wont warn you beforehand so its at your discretion whether to proceed for a super horrifying adventure & history lessons. We started off with a group of 8 people for a 60-minute session. The actors perform excellently & stay in the role no matter what. They wont touch you but dark rooms & scampering will create panic for sure.Be prepared to scream and/or hear screeching, yelping sounds. Finally, the drop ride concludes the session & you feel thankful for coming out alive!#Day2
Very interactive, a bit scary, interesting tour...where you can find out many historical things about San Francisco. We enjoyed it!
Great show! Super fun and entertaining while also a bit spooky! Appropriate for kids but may be a bit scary for younger children. Cast was excellent and the price wasn’t bad when buying a combined wax museum and dungeon ticket.
This was a FUN experience to learn about the city in an interactive setting. Great for Adults and kids 10 and up. Lights go off, there are loud noises, jump scares, and actors yelling at you and singling you out in the crowd to answer the questions. Actors do not break character. They do a very good job. There is a small simulated boat ride, and a simulated 3 story fall. At the very end. The actor will not break character, however know that the fall at the end is OPTIONAL. Once they line you up for the fall ride, they say some of you may be eligible for early parole. If you are epileptic, have heart problems, or are overweight please step forward. At that time, if you wish to not ride the 3 story fall, then just step forward for early parole, and they will send you through to the gift shop. The rest of your party will appear in the gift shop about 5 minutes later.
This is a great interactive experience with amazing actors and really nice historical stories mixed in. It was kind of a bummer that you cant take any pictures at any time during the tour thingy but the experience itself was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who wanted to come to San Francisco
It was amazing. You interact and go through the history of San Francisco. I went like 4 years ago and I still think about it. It was the highlight of the trip besides Alcatraz. We go free tickets from playing this 3D zombie shooting game. I recommend.
I came here after being lured in by the gigantic poster they had on a billboard in SF near fisherman’s wharf. I was so confused what the actual experience would be since they boasted a drop tower and a boat ride and lots of scares, but I decided to go for it anyways. Needless to say, I was actually so entertained during the one hour I had in the dungeon! It was a clever mix of Jumpscares and masterfully weaved in adult jokes but also had a good amount of audience participation! People would be singled out and made to be fake killed or forced to walk by themselves and were made fun of. I was almost singled out when an actor came up right to my face but thank goodness she disappeared when the lights came on. Anyways, the drop wasn’t as scary as I thought but the highlight was definitely the little performances the actors gave and the almost terrifyingly real fear I felt after they delivered their bone chilling performances. Would take my friends here!
The Rat Bar was AWESOME! My husband and I laughed our way through the entire experience. If youre looking to shoo away the doldrums of a typical Saturday night then head over to The San Francisco Dungeon. The charming crew who provided us all with a bit of history about San Franciscos beginnings were respectful, fun and absolutely delightful. Its a great family friendly sort of event that is just enough goofiness to keep you all smiling. From the rat tail drink at the beginning to the live rats at the end of the San Francisco history tour, just a rollicking, G-rated good time! Thanks for having us!
Went here recently with my wife and teenage son and all of us were very impressed with this attraction. The actors did a great job and the special effects were well done. This was far better than the Madame Tussauds attraction which is beside this attraction. Did both because I had a combo ticket which represented good value for money. Would highly recommend it.
This was a fun experience and I have never been to anything like this before. If you are looking to kill an hour while near the Fishermans Wharf then check this out. Only reason why Im giving this 4/5 is because the check in process was a nightmare- no staff in this section to tell you what the deal is. I had to go over to the wax museum which is attached and ask when the tour was going to start after 15 minutes of waiting. Apparently you needed to buy tickets at the wax museum as well, which the employee did not inform me. So when an employee finally showed up to check everyone in, I had to go back to the wax section for them to validate my groupon. I lost my place in line, which wasnt a big deal since we still got in, but the employee from the beginning should have asked if I had a ticket ready. There are no signs that say check in next door. So, a bit annoying to begin with but all the actors do a fun job. This is great for families but beware- they might pick you for one of the scenes, so be ready to participate! This was one of the only times I ever bought a ride photo, its a fun memory to look at.
Good fun and diverting for an hour. If you have done a dungeons in other places, it follows a similar pattern of shows and settings. However, it was great to learn a little bit of local history, all with the classic Dungeons humour and slight scares. The Chinatown bit was very good, as was the Alcatraz scene. If you want to fill an hour in a fun way, this is just what you need.
Super cool. Love the history they show and tell. Good actors
During the tour of the dungeons, in the bar scene the lights go out and suddenly you get picked in the mid back with some kind of pointed object. If you have a bad back like I do it hurts to be jabbed three times in same place I went in a Monday and 6 days later it still hurts. People with disabilities need to be informed about this, and /or need to be able to sit in their own chairs. I had my walker with me.
Fun for adults/teens. Don’t take little kids. Its not that scary for an adult; but their goal is to create suspense, and they do it well. They told me our one year old daughter would be fine, and I wish I had left her out. The lights suddenly go out, people show up out of the dark, creepy noises whisper in your ear, Sears move under you, etc. If that will scare your kids, don’t take them. The drop ride is fine for any age in my opinion. It’s not a big drop at all.
Its so amazing! I dont want to give anything away (its a surprise!) So just take your family and see for yourself! I would definitely recommend it and you can learn a lot from it in a fun way.
It was fun. Educational and scary. The ride at the end wasnt what I thought it would be. It was only like 10 or 12 feet high and it only went up once. But not a bad experience for the price.
Great way to learn some local history while getting a good scare. This place is a hidden gem, really. The combo ticket with the wax attraction next door is a good deal. Nice way to get out of the weather and have some fun!
Hilarious and scary at the same time. Perfect combo!
Actors are good. Mirror maze was cool. Theres a part where you get on a Boat, it moves like 2-4ft forward (maybe less) & thats it -so dont go thinking its a ride. It was cool but for the price paid- Wasnt for me.
It was such a fun experience! The actors were very talented, funny and frightening, the tour was spooky and informational, and the costumes and sets were very realistic. My only wish is that the tour itself was longer! 10/10 would definatly go again!
Do not go. worst experience ever. and if you just want to go for the drop ride DONT. it’s a huge let down. “thriller of the year my butt”
What a surprise this place was!!! I had been planning to go there for a while and finally made it to it! The whole experience is so much fun, they really know how to set the mood before you go in to explore the dungeon. It educates you about the history of San Francisco’s “underground” scenery; how it was back in the days. The actors are awesome, the whole wardrobe and scenery was fantastic. We loved every minute of it. The price puke be friendlier but they do have a quite big staff, it wouldn’t be fair if it were any cheaper. Great location and great time blocks (different show times) to choose from.
Always a blast! Been here three times so far and cant get enough of it! The actors really get into it!
Love this place, great for children, teenagers and adults alike!! Great glimpse into the history of San Francisco shared in a fun and interesting fashion, total immersion!!As an added bonus you can save $10 per person using Groupon!!
Think real D, instead of 3D. Very interactive and great way for a history lesson. I cant describe it without spoiling the experience. But its a must, if you visit San Francisco.
Been there 5 times. A little different between each time. They got different actors. Their acting’s were awesome. Also add a few more attractions since they open this business. The drop down machine at the ending is a bit off because it is too short. And just make sure the environment is scary, dark and there are jump scares. Also let you know you know there will be strangers team up with your group. Worth to try this one.
This was a fun activity to do. A great way to learn about some of the history of this area. The actors played their roles very well. Enjoyable experience.
No photography allowed, but a great experience overall. The tour runs about one hour with great storytelling by the guides.
It was fun, I think the guide gave us the best description when he stated Its Scooby Doo scary. Pretty sure my tween daughters loved it mire than I did, but glad we went. Its a much better price & adventure when combined with the wax museum. The wax museum was the bigger hit of the two with the kids. They loved getting selfies with the celebrities!
Super fun experience! We celebrated our friends 30th birthday and it was a great way to start the evening with a big group of peeps!
I went today with my family this morning to the dungeon. The actress of Miss Piggott was very invested in her role and she was personally my favorite character of all of the characters that I have met throughout the experience. I am personally not a fan of horror or jump-scare walkthroughs, but I can say this is one attraction I loved with the horror aspect in it. Settings are very realistic and impressive as well. I would highly recommend it if you are a history buff and/or love to see skits about history.
Its fun, but the ones in Europe are way better. Not as much interaction and they are not allowed to touch you- I can see the reasoning but its much more fun.
We had a good time here! The actors were intriguing! My son is now a known whiskey & horse thief in the family.
Before you wonder, yes this can be seen as a tourist trap. However if you had one tourist trap to fall for this is it! It is not a theme park, it is not a museum, this is a ghost tour, my hometown has done this for years. Where they walk you from site to site and actors tell the history, however this is one is on steroids, so its greatly amped up with the acting, props sets and interactivity. I have recommended it to everyone when they visit as I just went by myself as i was visiting SF and loved it. I will be going again.
This place was not in our plan and went to this place because it was raining very badly, but it turned out to be very good. It was an amazing experience and the actors were too good and the whole one hour was entertaining. The show tells us the local history of SF in a funny way with a little scary touch. It is must visit place
Wonderful time. I went with my 11year old son and we enjoyed ourselves. Great history played out before you. Very interactive and creepy too!
I had no idea it was even there until me and my grandma walked outside Ripleys and saw the sign. We had no idea what it was about until an actor in a funny costume told us that it was a show that was funny and scary. My grandma couldnt handle scary things, but we decided to do it. The actors were amazing and it wasnt as scary as she thought. We walked away blown away and wanted to do it again.
There was evidently so much effort an time put into the attraction. The scary & fun way to learn San Franciscos history was very creative Nd unique.
A fun (and scary) way to spend an hour and learn a little about San Franciscos history.
This place is so much fun and the actors were awesome!
Different definitely exciting well worth it not what you were expecting but didnt fall short of impressive For the price and the time you cant beat it enjoy it
It was priced a little high and we where going to skip it. Luckily we found a groupon and everyone had a blast. Id recommend it if you have kids (preteen and up) that would enjoy a fun house in your group.
Its quiet okay. But there are better ones.
Horrifyingly awesome from start to finish! No spoiler alerts here but you might want to take someone you can keep REAL close to you. Amazing staff, they put their ALL into their characters and their gift shop has some cool stuff. The only downers were the boat ride was out and you cant take ANY photos or video during the tour but then again you wont have time too. I found combo package deals off of Groupon so for $25(per person) we got tickets for both the San Francisco dungeon and Madame Tussauds museum. Best bang for your buck and we had a great time!
A lot of good fun, really better that expected. Probably needs some work on the story line but all in all a lovely labour of work and educational too
Worth going. It was funny, but not scarry in the slightest. UK ones have the advantage because they are normally in an actual dungeon and also try to scare you.
A fun place to visit in SF area.
A fun way to learn bits of history about San Francisco. Would go again!
Fun place to visit alone or with family and friends. The activities are well planned and interesting. Even solo travelers like me can enjoy it! The actors act really well to help visitors to get into the mood of the stories.
I had so much fun the actors really get into their job..
The actors were so great. Made it a fun night with my husband
Ive been here twice now and Ill keep coming back. The quality of the show has improved since they open. The attractions have also improved. (I wont spoil it) Be prepared to be called on by the actors. Audience members play a crucial role in the performance. There is a very nice gift shop at the end, full of well priced souvenirs. Dont forget to check out your pictures as the end. Usually pretty hilarious.
The show was entertaining, characters were witty and overall everything was well organized. I didnt find it to be too scary, which was fine for me.
This was so much fun! Took my 15 year old daughter and her friend and they loved it! The actors were great, very funny and lots of fun historical info. Totally felt like we got our moneys worth.
It was a great experience. Lasts one hour, very interactive and funny. Get ready to be in pitch black darkness! The actors are funny but also scary. Then there is a drop at the end which was short but fun. Its scary in a good way, so you can bring kids. Just enjoy the show. I recommend getting tickets online to save $5, you can even purchase them on your phone.
I loved it. I took my 5 year son but it may not be advisable for him. I felt the some of the folks were bit disrespectful though. Though they didnt say anything straight but you can know by how you are treated.
A fun time, but very similar to the Amsterdam Dungeon, only not quite as good. The boat ride was barely a boat ride and the drop was maybe 10 feet? The actors were great, however! We had a good time and will recommend it to friends and family who travel here and have some time to spare. We did take our 7 year old, and he was not too scared, just on edge. It is more on the humorous side with audience participation than on the scary side. Thanks for a great time!
My second time and equally entertaining. I Love how quiet they move. Its Creepy and humours.
This was definitely fun. The actors are very entertaining and do a great job of keeping you engaged. It has a scary humor to it. You learn history while going through each room. The drop ride at the end is pretty fun too.
The acting was really good and it was much more than I expected for the price. When we got out, we were really surprised how long we had been inside because it was so much fun.
Surprisingly enjoyable, I did it to pass an hour with low expectations and thoroughly enjoyed it The actors are very good and the stories hugely entertaining. Interactive, expect to end up singled out at some point. Inspired me to read Herbert Asburys book The Barbary Coast which is a terrific book
This attraction is incredible. It was all very educational, but also satisfyingly scary and overall a great, fun experience
Was an awesome experience. Enjoy San Frans history first hand
Im in between four and five stars, so Ill just say this is a SF experience you have to experience for yourself. I wish the tour and ride had a little more history, but what it lacked there it made up in humor and suspense. Really, really fun.Our group of 4 walked through the caves below SF with 5 other strangers and Im sure all of us had an equally great experience. Everyone left smiling and laughing, and thats enough by itself. The actors did really great and the ride at the end is fun too.Definitely something you want to do when its not busy for the full experience, so late afternoon on a Sunday was perfect. Found them on Groupon and so glad I did. Id definitely recommend it to any friends looking for something new in SF to check out.
A great experience! My only issue was that I had a few anxiety attacks that kept building up throughout the lights being turned on and off and the effects that happened during the lights off.
It was good even my 9 year old girl like it
The acting was really good just wish it was cheaper
Had a great time. Actors seemed to enjoy their job. Great for a group since they will single out a few people and it’s great to have a few friends scream. Not a hounded house where you are constantly scared and nervous,. Great time.
Unfortunately these dungeons feel the same, no matter where you visit them, therefore it was a bit boring
It was a fun hour .....u learn about the darker history of San Francisco ...from I gathered the show starts every 30 mins ....they even have a drop ride in the basement...several photos are taken by them able to buy at the end of the tour...personal camera/phones are not welcomed ..they tell u turn it off ....no worries no actor ever touches u tho might get close to your face in the dark scare u when lights come back on
Really cool experience. The actors did really well, and the history was the best part of the whole experience. The cat was nice enough to do the ride twice at the end, not sure if thats standard but was a pretty cool emersive experience.
Sitting by each other wont give u a good picture. The freaking cut me and my wife into two separate pictures and charged us for each 1. They have some good moments funny and scary. Just dont let them pick on you lol they tend to pick on 1 or 2 people throughout the whole tour
4 weeks ago me, my partner and my 3 great NIECES from Sacramento, went to Frisco. They had a ball and I had fun as well. They will be back next Christmas.
Its a fun, scary, and informative attraction, as well as being interactive. We had a wonderful time. It is great for kids and adults.
It was scary but fun. I didn’t go on the ride tho cause I wus scared :((
Wow! What a great performance. Exactly as advertised. Frightening and hilarious.
We had a lot of fun going on this little tour! The actors were superb, and theres just the right level of spookiness to keep you on your toes without being actually scared. My 13 and 11 year old sons loved it. Bonus that you also learn a little about the local history.Great price when combining with Madame Tussauds next door.I would suggest lowering the price of the souvenir photos. If you made them only $5 each I think youd have many more sales.
I love San Francisco, this was a great attraction we did the combo deal and did the wax museum as well for 30 dollars. The actors were very engaging and the storyline was great. The wax museum was great the sculptures are spot on and very real looking. Definitely a must see. Go early to avoid the rush
We had a nice time. Laughed a lot
Went in expecting to be bored to tears. The hour flew by. We had a great group of strangers with us that added to the fun.Definitely recommend. Its history mixed with comedy and improv.
