I was visiting and stopped in for confession. Maybe its just how California rolls, but the priest was relaxed and friendly. Not what I expected for confession.
This place is beautiful, Its been through a lot The place is always peaceful and graciousIts a Place to go and appreciate the goodness of being yourself. Its open during the week, and mass is beautiful during the week as well as weekends.
This was an absolutely beautiful church. Its in my neighborhood and while walking my dog I thought I would stop and ask if I could pray. They kindly welcomed me and my dog in and allowed us our time with the Lord. Wonderful wonderful church absolutely gorgeous! They treated us with Kindly and without judgment. Isnt that what church is all about or should be all about. These are people who were walking in their truth. May God-bless them each and everyone. Thank you for allowing us to spend some time there with the Lord.Miss Kari D
They are listed as American Catholic---NOT Roman Catholic. A screen on me altar is most distracting. The decore is absolutely gorgeous. Very liberal.
Fr. Franklin, the pastor, is very intelligent and welcoming. This is a Franciscan parish with a priory attached. The parishioners here have been coming a long time, and many are daily Mass goers. Volunteers for the Gubio Project show enormous compassion in the Franciscan spirit: giving access to restrooms for the needy and also giving snacks to the hungry. The Christmas Mass is splendid and indeed diverse; this is a church full of love and awareness of everyday struggles and political issues.
Welcoming place of worship. Choir is diverse and really invigorating. People are so warm.
I work there Monday thru Friday as a Supervisor for The Gubbio Project. Its a Homeless Sanctuary that provides a Sacred Sleep Program.
This is a great place. It is exasperating because it is like a communist Budhist temple and there is never any coffee or food. They dont believe in xmas or presents or marriage. They only want money. It is a place that has a building next door that has been sending illegal aliens back and forth from China,Viet Nam and the Phollipines. They havent given anything away in 40 years.
Its a very good church at the heart of the tenderloin district. Very serene, no crowds, you can pray solemnly, w/o distraction !
Its a great church to pray. Well organized mass schedule convenient for all kind of persons
Amazing grace of St. Boniface for those less than the privilege.
I have posted a review of the Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist at 15th and Valencia in the citys Mission district neighborhood that I think applies here, too. Both churches are partners in the Gubbio Project, to serve the homeless by allowing them to sleep inside on the pews on weekdays. At this church there is a wonderful weekday Mass at 12:15. I try to come as often as I can, being that I live nearby but again because I have heard many powerful sermons at this quick half-hour service. The congregation is super diverse, reflecting the neighborhood. St. Boniface is a revered saint in Germany and I believe the original congregation so many years ago was German, but as the city and neighborhood have changed over the century, so too has the congregation to reflect that change. There are many Filipino, Vietnamese, Hispanic, and African American congregants. There is a Sunday Mass set up for each of these communities (by language and style of worship, same Catholic Liturgy across the board though).I feel a great sense of welcome and community here, and God is at work with the Franciscans serving the local poor. I highly recommend this church for newcomers, and particularly the short but sweet midday weekday Mass at 12:15. Come experience Christ at this church!
First time I been there. Beautiful mass. Congregation was very welcoming. The priests homily was inspiring and truthful. Beautiful church.
The information table has great community resources that appeal to the local inhabitants who seek a deeper spiritual conquest. I adore the art and architecture from the early 1900s.
Saint Boniface Catholic Church is one of the oldest churches in the United States and I had stayed up most respect for it
Be cause the people who run the gubio project sleeping inside o. N the. Wood.pews during. The morning celebration mass
Attended the Easter Virgil, received a warm welcome from the Clergy and congregation, service was in several languages with a projection of the mass translated so you can follow it,
Its a gorgeous church! It is very inclusive in Mass because they read, and sing in three different languages!
One of the most beautiful churches Ive been in as of yet
This church is in the tenderloin. Ive never had a gig in this area before until the Archbishop needed an event photographed at this church. Its definitely a church in the trenches. There were a half a dozen homeless people in the church during the event. Its cool and I think more churches need to be more open to charity like that but it was different. Aside from that the church is beautiful. I recommend visiting this one if youre looking at visiting more traditional churches.
Great ministry opening their doors for the homeless to sleep there. Good bless you.
Gives me a place to use the lavratory and catch some sleep.
To eedig the masses. Be wonderful.
Historical catholic church with a beautiful pipe organ. Bless the friars.
Beautiful church... Check out the Gubbio Project!
I was able to sit and pray for half of an hour one afternoon. It is serene and the people are friendly. I read the sign that is posted on the gates last night; they also have confession on Saturday for 30 minutes. I have yet to receive services.
I love this church. Very dear to my heart.
They have a place to rest and fresh pair of socks.warm food.
Very beautiful place
Agree to do all possible for homeless but why in seatrows and why no exposed Blessed Sacrament for adoration. The sick need the Lord to heal but also to worship him. A church is the tempel of God; please keep it clean.
Sanctuary for the Homeless. Serving our at-risk Communities
This is a church who cares. M-F from 6am to 3pm they let the homeless come in and take refuge in the pews. They give them clothing, toiletries, etc. They are compassionate and caring and non judgemental. Everything a church SHOULD be. So many in SF ignore the homeless population and demonize them but St. Boniface embraces the more unfortunate in SF. Kuddos.
I mostly come here for 12:15PM First Friday Mass, as it is only a block away from my office. I have been coming on-and-off to St. Boniface since 2003. Its a very beautiful church. They have this project called Gubio, with one of their programs is to let homeless sleep on the pews at the back section (after the break) during the hours the church is open. So if you are okay with sporadic music to my ears (read: snores, loud ones), its a nice place to stop by and have a quiet time, or to say some prayers. The neighborhood is much improving now. As in other places, always practice caution when walking there.
