The unlockables is a memorable experience, went in and they were enthusiastic and their setup is great. Played 2 rooms, no spoilers but great introduction to the rooms, challenging puzzles but definitely not impossible, attention to details was amazing and I definitely need to go back to try their other room.

My group had the escape overall worth every penny. My group had a blast and we needed all 8 to solve the room! Riddles were creative and room design was amazing! It felt pretty realistic and we also dressed up for it...the staff loved it! Great experience overall. If you never done an escape room before this is a place to try!

Located above a boba place and near some Japanese restaurants, Unlockables would be easy to miss but dont let the small footprint fool you as this is an amazing Escape Room company (and you have easy access to food and parking too XD). When you walk into Unlockables theres a Mad Scientist vibe the lobby carries as they are committed to making sure you are engaged and to warm your brain up for the upcoming trials ahead. This includes a wide range of board games on display, a mini escape room that works as a free trial and a mini-puzzle you can solve to unlock the wifi code.My fiance and I have done over 50 rooms in NorCal and Socal where we played Sister Secret which was quiet the challenging room. Outside of the really good puzzles inside, what really stuck out were the strong lighting and ambiance cues that did an amazing job in conveying story progress giving us a real sense of progress. This paired with a thrilling climax that had us rushing out of the door once is a prime example of how an Escape Room can introduce great pacing and a narrative arc within the span of an hour.

Did The Escape room with a group of 4 and it was a BLAST. From the start of the game (thrilling) to the various incredible and challenging puzzles - I highly recommend it.I will say, without giving it away, there was a sketchy part at the very end that bothered my group but we kindly told the game master we wouldnt participate in it and he respected it.Just a heads up- It has a scary element so Id proceed with caution with younger ones in this particular room.Definitely check it out if youre into Escape Rooms! Ive done 20+ and its in my Top 3. I wish I could do it all over again!

This was our first experience with an escape room and it was perfect. I think we got quite a few more hints since they knew it was our first time. The group that left before us with over 8 people were extremely disappointed that they didnt make it out in time. We were a group of 6 and everyone broke off into smaller groups as we figured out the puzzles with one person in charge of writing everything down. We did the Informant Room and within the 60 minutes we completed our mission and the 2 bonus missions all in the nick of time! We felt so accomplished after it was all over and took some really cool photos. Thanks to all the staff there that got our feet wet, were addicted now and well be hitting up every Escape room on Groupon first, then make our way back to our favorites. There are a ton of these in San Diego, feel free to leave a message with your favorites, with 2 under our belts we are ready for some challenging and scary ones.

Did the escape room Sisters Secret with a group of 8 [the max]. We enjoyed testing our brains on the practice puzzles in the main entry area to get primed for the escape room. The room was well put together, detailed and the setting was nice and spooky. There were some traditional lock and key puzzles, but the obtaining of the keys required plenty of thinking to solve. The hidden surprises kept us engaged the entire time, but since we had a group of 8 were able to finish with time to spare. Helpful staff that gave hints without giving away the entire solution was appreciated. I would do another escape room here for sure

My first ever escape room I had done was here at Unlockables, and two years later, I came back to try for my tenth, this time with Sisters Secret. First, walking into the waiting room was a surprise. The last time I was there, it was very plain and uneventful. This time there were two mini escape room, which the owner told me he had previously used as conventions and outside activities. The lobby was further decorated with artwork, games, pop-culture memorabilia, and more. Once inside the separate prep room, we were shown a short video and informed on the guidelines. From there we entered the room. Without giving away any spoilers, the room is fantastic. From the decorations to the theming, you are fully immersed in this Paranormal adventure from the moment you walk up to the room. Once inside everything goes up to another level. Our group was mixed experience wise (two players had never tried a room before, and myself and two friends have an average of nine rooms attempted and escaped) and all puzzles were easily understandable and accomplished. The one clue we used was to double check the an answer on a puzzle toward the beginning. The host was extremely helpful and pushed us toward the right direction. We had a blast and will be sure to come back to finish the other rooms they have opened up. Highly recommended!

Ive done about ten escape rooms at different locations before and this one is my favorite so far. Me and 3 friends completed the two sisters puzzle. It had a really good mix of puzzles to solve, special effects and was very challenging. They give you unlimited clues so you dont get stuck on one thing for too long and you can decide how much help you want or dont want. We maybe asked for 3 clues and barely completed with just 2 minutes remaining on the clock. Very fun and highly recommended!

We had a great time here. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They wont give you too much help, you have to ask for it, which is nice. They will help you if you look stuck with a non-descript pointer. We did the informant and its great for beginners. We will be back for the other rooms.

I went here today for my 18th birthday with my coworkers and the room we choose was the escape. I never been to an escape room before and I didnt know what to expect. When we did begin, there was a lot of puzzles you had to solve and most of them involved teamwork. The vibe there was creepy to I was a little scared to go into one of the rooms. I did power through it in the end :D. Unfortunately we failed but the experience I got from it was like no other. I would recommend that you to go to this place if you like a bit of a thrill and want to do something collaborative.

Loved this place! Such a trilling escape!Sisters Secret- This is their horror themed room and it showed! From the moment we entered the room until the final seconds when we opened the door we were kept on our toes. There is so much stuff to do in this room. We had 4 people: Two of us had done 40+ rooms, and the others were on their 3rd and 6th rooms. I would definitely recommend 4 or more people for this room just based on how many puzzles there were. The puzzles in this room were super cool and there were even a few that we had never seen before. As far as scare factor- even though there was no live actor in the room, we sure had some jumpy moments where we felt like there was a presence with us.The Escape- Our second room that we tried at this location was The Escape. This room also was full of puzzles and kept us busy the entire time! This room was easier than the Sisters Secret Room but we found it just as fun. The beginning was something new that we had never experienced before and we hd so much fun! Some of the puzzles in this room made us think differentlyOur GMs were amazing and made the games super entertaining. There are also 2 mini rooms in the lobby area so be sure to get there early so you can try those out!I highly recommend this place for both beginners and experienced escapers!

I played The Escape and had a great time! We were with an 11 year old boy, and were a bit concerned that the website warns that it is suited for kids 16+, but he loved it! It would of course depend on the kid though, call them if you have any questions. Excellent room with a lot of good puzzles! We kept thinking we were done, but it kept going. Only five minutes left when we got out, with a team of four. Mostly key and combo locks, but it worked well!

Our friends and us have over 20+ games under our belt, and weve done many of the escape rooms in San Diego. In fact, it was a surprise that we hadnt played The Unlockables: A Puzzle Escape Experience one before. That said, we will definitely be back to play their other rooms Sisters Secret another mystery themed game, and The Informant a spy themed game. We opted to play their most popular game The Escape a mystery/thriller game after reading many rave reviews about this particular game. Without giving anything away, all players will be handcuffed, the game is played at times in dimly lit lighting, some light crawling may be experienced (by some of the players), and some of the areas youll encounter is a little cramped. That said, this is one of our favorite escape games in San Diego! The game is non-linear and extremely immersive. You get to tell your game host if you want to experience as much of the game as possible, or want as little help as possible thereby closely replicating a true escape room experience. We told our host Dan we wanted as little help as possible since this wasnt our first rodeo so to speak. There is a pleasant customized surprise youll discover when youre trying to get out. Theres also enough challenges to keep veteran escape gamers busy without hints, but its well designed enough so novice players can experience a great time, even if they need to get help from their host to continue solving the game. This game is not another escape room where all you have to do is solve 20 locks and you get out. Youll feel euphoric every time you you solve another part of the game! If theres one complaint, there should be more lighting at the very start as its very difficult to see the very things you need to see to proceed. We heard other players have expressed similar concerns. If the owner solved that issue, they definitely have one of the Top 3 Escape Games in town!!!

Amazing, ive done a lot of escape rooms, this place easily fits in my top 5. Theirs lots of mystery in the beginning to scare you, but the main focus is the experience. On the outside it seems like any other cheap escape rooms, until your actually in the room. Its decorated well and designed to be challenging, but challenging enough that the average human can complete it.

The people working there are friendly, funny, and helpful. They even let us start a half hour early when we got there too soon. They could just as easily be bored of doing the same spiel over and over again, but instead they do their best to make the experience very enjoyable. The room itself was very fun, and my family was kept busy and engaged the entire time. Their hints are well-timed and nonintrusive. Overall, I definitely recommend this.

I did their two harder (one medium one hard?) escape rooms with some friends, and we managed (thanks to hints honestly) to get through both. Neither of the rooms felt perfect to me, which Ill go ahead and blame my own inadequacies for instead of spoiling any of the puzzles. The people who work there are so nice that Ill be coming back if they roll anything new out for SURE.I really like their philosophies for these escape rooms, making them non-linear, and adding in some extra unnecessary tasks if you want some easter eggs or something.

Edwin Tactay, the owner/manager: arrogant, childish and a bad business owner!Reason: I purchase a Groupon for 8 players to a specific room. The room was not identified in the Groupon Ad as a beginners room. I purchased the Groupon not knowing this. I emailed the owner, after looking at the website, asking if I could instead have 5-6 players in a more advanced room (the max number allowed for the advanced room). After many arrogant and cocky emails from him, he refused to let me use the Groupon for 5 people in an advanced room instead of 8 people in a basic room! The price per person was the same no matter what the room! After many emails between us he the said I was asking for pity for my mistake in not reading the Groupon completely. Then, proceeded to correct my ONE misspelling in an email I sent to him.Hes childish, arrogant and should not be given any further business. Find a better owner elsewhere and give them your money.
