Santa Clara Recreation Center is a great place for locals and visitors alike. It is the San Diego City sponsored rec center for the Mission Beach Community and others. Located at Santa Clara point in the heart or something the center has basketball courts tennis courts a softball field and is surrounded by beautiful Mission day. In addition inside of the rec center there are activities and a weight room as well as meeting room. The view is of course outstanding there is also a parking lot but especially on the weekends or in the summer you better get here early. The sandy beaches of Mission Bay and the separate little coves make for a great place for stand up paddle boarding and other water activities. Santa Clara Rec is a huge asset to Mission Beach.

Nice place, this time around the lagoon had more water. We stayed under a palm tree, near the restroom area, so it was cooler than the 90° Heat. Had a few beers, hide your sh$#t. Cool spot with grassy area.

Beautiful nook, parking can get pretty crowded during the holidays I assume since thats when I went. Very beautiful sunset view with the homes. Hope to go paddle boarding there in the near future.

The sports center is awesome. My school went boating there for our orientation trip, its a lot of fun and great place to go with a crowd

My only complaint about the rec center is the parking. Its difficult to find any available spots most of the time.The San Diego Bay is fun for sailing, SUP, tubing, and riding jet skis. There are many shops to rent bikes and paddle board nearby but Mission Bay Sports Center is the closest and most convenient.

Kinda cool, Id never been sailling before, was a lot of fun, an experience i definitely recommend to any one given the opportunity, i went on a day that was not very windy and it was a perfect day for trying to learn the ropes (pun intended) not enough wind to get frightened but enough to keep the vessel moving (no wind = no go, anywhere, stuck) and enough to go fast enough for a real thrill and appreciation for the power of mother nature. Best advice, go with someone with experience, go in the middle of the week, ask the dock people where the people being trained are located and avoid them, stay in the boat, watch the swinging sail bar thing and duck the moment youre told to do so, and stay in the boat. Oh, and if youre doing the sailling and the ropes and sail start making a bunch of noise change direction cause youre not getting the wind properly. Quiet is good and no you cant go under any of the bridges so you cant get lost at Sea out anything like that, bonus

This place is so amazing the view is beautiful it is very quiet and clean people are very friendly it is a good place to have a family gathering BBQ wedding birthday party

My dad paid for my kids to do a different activity every day. My kids loved it, it turned into a must do every summer. You can tell the people who work here love thier job !! Thanks for an awesome week !!

Love the nostalgia its exactly as I remember from 40 years ago! Could use an upgrade, still I got married here on the beach many moons past, then used the rec for the reception, good fun, good deal, parking is horrific.

I had a great time here. Rented some paddle boards and a kayak and went right into the bay to have some fun. Pretty good prices and friendly staff. I would definitely come here again as I had a great time!

Great place for people of all ages. Right on Mission Bay and a nice restaurant in the back corner. SDSUs Aquatic Center is there also. Restrooms available, weight room, I think there might be tennis courts, but not sure. Grass, play ground for youngsters and more. Very difficult for parking during summer and school holidays ...

Loved the water trampoline. It was a great day for my daughters 13th bday!

Super helpful at Mission Bay Aquatic Centre. Great kit too, new SUP boards and kayaks. Great launching point and Rapid help if required. Highly recommend, but parking is scarce so come early or prepare to walk.

A great place to spend a day with your family! Clean bathrooms with showers, rent kayaks, sail boats, etc... Classes and Summer camps available. Within Sail Bay.

Easy bay access and a great launch spot for canoes or paddle boards. Im hesitant to post this, but there is ALWAYS parking by the Mission Bay Sports Center, which is especially useful if someone in your group needs to rent gear. Also, they have a hot tub pontoon boat that has caught my eye.

A beautiful location for a recreation center, and now that it has been redone inside it is much nicer than before. My only regret is that their hours are not more inviting to early risers or night owls.

I was shocked! The water was warm, clear, and not crowded. Everything I havent yet experienced in CA! The rental staff was super friendly and helpful. Thanks for an amazing day!

This is one of the most awesome Recreation places on the bay. I love to go to the place where they rent sailboats and go sailing for a few hours. The only drawback of this place is there is not enough parking, at least on special days like the 4th of July which is when I went. Had to drive around the lot for 15 minutes before somebody finally pulled out and I got a space.

This place holds a youth camp every summer. A lot of water activities for kids, such as sailing, kayaking, snorkeling. Great place for kids yo spend time and learn.

Nice area to hang out... Clean bathrooms in the building, great selection of rentals... Can get a quick bite at the food stand... Parking can be very difficult at times...

It was a little bit boring for the kids. The best part was the excellent climbing trees. If the hobos were not all hanging out and smoking it would have probably been more fun.

Always the first place I have in mind when I think of San Diego.

Rely on this parking lot when Im at my second job. They have good summer camps for kids and host events like Hawaiian paddle tournaments and watersport competitions.
