Great walking trail around the lake - shady and flat. There are side trails to go up the side hills too. There are nice play areas and swings for kids. BBQ and tables are everywhere. Kids under 15 can fish and even borrow equipment and have someone teach them about fishing. The only negative is- they redid the play structures and workout equipment, but added NO BATHROOMS at the top where the people are. You have to walk over 1/4 mile to get to a bathroom.
Chollas Lake is always fun. There are ducks, geese and California Quail, along with many other critters. There are walking trails and play areas. A fishing pier and picnic table areas make it suitable for many types of outings. It seems like some gazebo areas would even be suitable for parties. I gave only 4 stars because the way the swings are not at the main playground, even though the main playground is amazing (its my sons preference that they be closer). And the other reason is because it closes earlier than Id prefer. Lots of times we like to visit during the week on the way home and we wont have much time before the gates are locked. I know there was some situation with a man being found dead in the lake. Spooky. Im not sure what the deal with that was but I guess it adds character to this San Diego charm. Buses are located nearby at the college Grove shopping center up the road.
Really enjoy this park, I have no issues with social distancing once on the trail.. We even grilled today at this park and everything turned out great!! I had no issues with city noises like some reviews say. Also less traffic if you visit on a weekday instead of weekend. But even then, if you have enough patience to find parking the breeze, the calm vibes will be worthwhile...
Beautiful location. Quiet. Great place to walk, run, exercise or just chill and feed the ducks. Lots of shade and plenty of tables to enjoy.
Very pleasant and relaxing. Theres usually ample parking. A great place to watch the waterfowl cruise around ...
In the Bay Area of California there are very few lakes. Chollas Lake Park is a lake that is in the middle of San Diego. This lake is the first national historic landmark in the United States. This lake is also massive with a surface area of 140 acres. Chollas Lake Park is surrounded by a ton of buildings.
Great park. Lots of shady trees and forest paths next to a clear and clean lake. Plenty of picnic areas and BBQs. Bring the family!
Nice Trails lovely lake, but I dont like walking in the dirt...
I like the park but when you go walking around the trail i saw there is no bathroom along the trail . They should put more portable bathrooms around the trail.
This park is great for enjoying time with Family and going for a walk. Dogs are allowed as well.
This place is awesome I really enjoy coming here either to exercise or relax
I always pass the signs for this place when I go to Sams Club and I finally planned a day to check it out. The pics on the review page dont even really do this park justice and I will certainly plan to spend more time here next time! I walked the trails and circled the pond (not pictured here), enjoying the sights of so many active families! There were children fishing, dogs being walked, and people running. It was a beautiful day and the park was excellently maintained. Managed to snap a pic of my son looking infinitely cooler than me as he perched in one of the many fields of wildflowers.
It calm, its beautiful! And nice to go and walk, run or do exercice
Went jogging here, its a cute little Loop. I will be back.
Great park to do laps and enjoy the scenery
Great for a run enjoying the great weather beautiful its a hidden treasure.
Amazing place to de estress walk w dog and family
Very nice place to take a stroll and see some various types of ducks while enjoying a peaceful sight of the lake.Nice extra...near the parking lot is a small area for reading, where you can either take a book or leave a book for others.
Beautiful little lake, with a few floating docks. People were wearing masks and social distancing nicely.
Great for runs, walks, light hiking along wide trails, and exercising. It has a basketball and court picnic area, pull up bars as well as hills you can challenge yourself by running up or walking. Great for kids who wants to learn how to fish (age requirement’s) or feed some of the wildlife there.
Great location to walk early in the morning
Such an AMAZING lakeI taped a few segments of The Mystery of the Dead Cat Fish at Chollas lake with my children!Over the last couple of years, they have revamped the playgrounds and have added workout equipment! Fishing is still available, and the ducks are always around. There is SO much to do there!
Beautiful lake to bird watch, have a picnic, relax, walk around and simply relax. When I went there the sign posted that it closes at 5pm which is plenty late enough in the Winter and Im guessing the hours get extended in the Summer. There are tons of different species of birds and it is located in the heart of San Diegos suburbs so it isnt going to be too quiet because of the nearby road noise but the convenience to nature is a blessing for us urban dwellers.
Went a couple time. Place is really beautiful full of life and also a good place to take the family. On my visit I was able to see some friendly squirrels, I was able to feed one, they arent afraid of people. Saw some baby turtles, was only able to take the single picture. Lets not forget the ducks, cute little creatures, sorry I didnt get that much pictures of the ducks, most where in the middle of the pond. Would recommend this place if walking the dog or just spending time with the family.
Thank you for opening your doors so that we may enjoy this beautiful place The wildlife are sweet. Trails, parking and bathrooms, = A+. !!
Love taking walks there.
Lovely place to go out for a run or walk.Took my fiance for a walk and she loved it. Had some sandwiches and juice in the picnic area. Some wildlife in the area also like ducks, goose and pelicans.
We had a very pleasant walk with our dog. Plenty of trash bags, out houses and poop bags. Thanks.
Excellent place to stretch your legs and get a jog in. Very community-oriented and very clean. I love Chollas Lake
Its the best kept secret in lemon Grove!
Beautiful place to run, jog or walk. There is lots of shade for those hot days, picnic areas, play grounds and fishing available for kids. Paths are mostly dirt.
This park is pretty, but youll never find it open. Theyll use any excuse to close it. Last time I was there, they wanted to go home early so light rain was enough to get them driving around in their truck telling everyone to get out.
This place is a little gem of nature in the midst of this bustling city. The man made lake offers peace and tranquility, along with ducks, geese, and other water fowl. The lake is surrounded by lots of big eucalyptus trees. It is a great place to go for a run, leisurely stroll, walk your dog, go fishing, or even pick up a book in the free library. Even in the heat of the summer, there is plenty of shade around the path. When you step inside this place, you feel like you have left the city and have entered another world, quite nice, I do say.
Great place to chill or hike or feed the ducks breeze feels great off the lake
Wonderful little lake in the east County of San Diego Ca.Great for family outings or a picnic.Kids fish for free, unique opportunity to teach kids how to fish.
Love it!
Great place to relax n go for a walk
Great little place to visit fishing, we like to feed the ducks and geese and take a walk around the pond. Every once in a while you can catch the turtles sun bathing on the rocks out in the pond.
The kids and I love Chollas lake! When we are in town we enjoy the nature trails, playing on equipment, and feeding the ducks and the squirrels. It was sad the last time we were there however, because it looks like either the squirrels are being poisoned or they are contracting rabies. There were a few dead squirrels and a few very noticeably sick ones. My heart ached for them.
For more than 10 years, I have been enjoying the atmosphere and the walks. There is a Girl Scout trail and the squirrels will come and get the peanuts right from your hands. There are ducks, geese, free fishing for 16 and under, how can you beat it. My family and I love it. Dont take my word for it. Check it out for yourself. Im sure you will enjoy. Bring some bread and the children, big and small.....
Great place to relax, work out or bring the family for some fun.
What a great place for walking running or just to sit enjoy the scenery and maybe feed a goose or squirrel.
Very relaxing views and a great workout!
This is a jewel of San Diego I absolutely love going for runs, walking my dog or just having a picnic
Great place for all who love to walk, run or even bicycle around this beautiful small lake you can have a picnic come watch to ducks theres even a summer camp for kids ages 5 to 15 can fish on this lake or just come a enjoy
Great place for walking baking or just enjoy a nice day with family or solo.
Beautiful oasis in the middle of a busy city come here collect your thoughts.
My kids love this lake
Great place for the family and your dogs
I love this park for biking or walking
Love this lake perfect to take my little babies to go feed the ducks you can only feed them bread tho but all the ducks a friendly beautiful day at the lake!
A hidden treasure! Take some laps around the lake, bring a picnic, play in the play area. Tons of mature trees, water fowl, and peaceful views in the midst of the city.
Beautiful lake. Ducks, geese and squirrels. Basketball court and playsets fir kids. Walk ir jog around the lake.
This is a Great Place for Families to get TOGETHER FOR FAMILY TIME ENJOY NATURE HAVE A PICNIC EXPERIENCE AS YOU EMBRACE THE MOMENTS UN YOUR LIFE
Love this place. The dirt path around the lake is .8th of a mile and its well shaded except for the lake overpass but is very short. If youre feeling adventurous you can check out the back side. I used to be scared of that side because its too deserted, very few ppl venture out that way. I used to come for runs here years ago, now a days I just bring my little ones for nature walks. There area few small hiking trails that brake off from the main path and kids love exploring them. There are 3 different play areas and 2 are actually being remodeled or redone right now which they desperately needed but the main attraction here is the wild life, big hit with the kids. Oh yeah you can also fish here I see ppl doing it all the time, Ive never seen anyone catch anything tho and I dont know much about the rules and regulations on it.AHLELUJA THE PLAY GROUNDS ARE FINALLY DONE AND THEY ARE AWESOME!!!! The upper play area is excellent so much for the kids to do and they also included exercise equipment for the adults:)
Good place to walk, read or just relax.
Cool place lots of ducks
My kids love the park. Awesome little lake for a walk and play time for kids.
I really love this location. Although it is popular, you can find parking. The trail around the lake isnt wheelchair friendly, but there are plenty of spots that are and one may enjoy the lake regardless. Please adhere to the posted signs about not feeding wildlife there. There is a helpful posting that tells you how many miles you have walked based on the number of loops around the lake you complete.
Great place to get in exercise or just sit around relaxing and people watching. Usually not too crowded and even if its hot, theres plenty of shade. I try to go at least twice a week.
Its a beautiful place to picnic, barbeque, walk, bring your dog, fish (for children), exercise or just relax by the lake. It has a walking-jogging trail that goes around the lake and plenty of shade provided by beautiful trees. There are plenty of picnic tables and areas to grill! Its a nice area for all ages!
Wonderful walk!
I usually come here to run.... good place to walk or run. The staff here keep the place clean. One lap around is about .75 miles.
Great place for a nature walk. This is also good for beginners for hiking. No wheel chair access. Plentiful parking is available
We attended the Water Lantern Festival 2019. It was an awesome experience. It is a nice park to take your kids fishing, go for a run.
Its a dog-friendly park. Very clean. You can trail run or just jog on the dirt road. The view is amazing.
Very nicely maintained park. Good amount of foot traffic, and nicely planned landscaping. Natural shade almost the entire day with a nice balance of purely sunny spots for those so inclined. Some interesting wildlife in the way of water foul and tree creatures. Not the most Instagram worthy of places, but theres a benefit to that as well!Certainly a calming place to be most any time you need a park to go.They have incorporated many ways to make it a one stop shop for all your exercise needs!A few small picknick tables that get taken up very early in the day, as well as a few spots you can reserve for those slightly larger parties.Parking isnt usually too bad off peak hours, but the weekends get full very early and ANY community event will fill up the parking in seconds. So do plan / look for street parking accordingly for those seasonalmovie nights and candle nights. If youre looking for a spot to jog or enjoy a nice long walk with your dog or friends you cant ask for much more in San Diego!Enjoy!
Beautiful peaceful area to walk, run or relax
Wonderful walk with my fur baby Dexter
Fun walking place and cool for little kids! Free fishing for kids on Sundays
So nice to walk around.
Love taking my walks here
Very nice park to go to, I always bring my son here.
Walk under Shades of eucalyptus trees, nature. And lots more
Nice place to walk/run, except the gates close at 5 p.m.
Safe clean place for a walk
Love waking
So much fun mostly when there is duck
Great & easy walking/jogging trail. Nice view over the lake. Can get a good work out going up and down the hills.
Nice place to take a family fun day
Very peaceful place, cool wildlife, me and my kid play basketball here
Its a great place to get some exercise and take pics or just enjoy nature at its finest
Great place to exercise.
Great running spot. Family friendly. Mostly shaded. Probably worth a google--Joker
Very relaxing and good surrounding
Great place to walk your dog, have a family outing, go fishing, or just walk. What I like is that the path goes completely around the lake, unlike other local lakes where the path goes partially around the water and you have to walk back. At Chollas you can do as many laps as you have the stamina for. Than slowly increase the number as you get stronger. The beauty of the surroundings makes it all so easy
Ive been coming here for 35 years.. love it here.
Perfect weather for a walk thru the trails at Chollas
