Saw the nutcracker here a Christmas ago and it was phenomenal. I highly recommend it and once this pandemic is over I will definitely come for a show!
Went to see Nutcracker with my daughters school. Spreckels is very old but still is one of the most beautiful venues in San Diego. It is well keep for being so old and the staff is very nice and helpful. I can’t wait to go back and enjoy another event there. Great idea to have an event for the students. They learn to appreciate it.
Amazing little theater. The organ really blows!
Went here to watch a movie during the SDIFF. The actual theaters are nice and spacious. Very clean and organized place. Their menu is lavish and runners bring the items to you but if you like sweets then you will probably love it. I do have a sweet tooth but I tend to stay away from overly sweet items. I did not buy anything and really enjoyed my movie experience.
A piece of nostalgia. Saul Conan OBrien for Comic-Con in the theater was great for a live show but I would not want to see much more there. The theater is in a large building with many small businesses and offices. This can make it difficult to navigate around. Bathrooms are on the other side of the theater.
Wonderful old theater. As such, seats are small and close together but still mostly comfortable. Be sure to park at the theater if possible, we made the mistake of parking at the Horton plaza which cost me $26 for about 3 hours! There are light refreshments in the lobby but best to hit one of the many restaurants and bars in the area before the show. There are three directly adjacent to the theater. There is no flash photography allowed during the ballet performance, so probably similar rules for other events. As for the city ballet performance, it ranged from contrived to inspiring as the night went on. It was clear what everyone had put the most work into: requiem. The symphony and chorus stole the show at times, and several of the dancers were outstanding.A night at Spreckels is well worth your time and money, whatever the occasion. Looking forward to returning in winter for the Nutcracker.
The performance we went for was great (Astana Ballet). Small detail - I usually expect an orchestra accompanying the ballet, but this time it was recorded music. Ladies helping to find our seats were very nice. All in all great experience.
What a beautiful theatre! This historic theatre, opened in 1912, was lovingly restored and provides a comfortable venue for theatrical and musical productions, including the ballet. Theres not a bad seat in the house.
What a beautiful venue. Could not have asked to view more exquisite decor! The only issue I have is the isles are small but it is manageable if strangers help let you by! Would come again.
We went for Dinner at Tapas & Beer in the Spreckels Building. Tapas & Beer is a nice casual restaurant with a great menu, great service and great beer and wine menu. We go there prior to going to plays at the San Diego Rep. Theatre. Its a short covered walk between the.two.
It was absolutley gorgeous inside! I would love to someday come back and see The Nutcracker there at Christmas time. My Great Great Grandfather John D. Spreckels built The Spreckels Theatre. My first time ever seeing it, and I love it!
This is my second time going their to see a ballet performance. The atmosphere is excellent and the workers are so accommodating. They are all so friendly and nice. I love it their, hope to be back soon, to see The Nutcracker!
Cool architecture and venue but honestly the seats are sized for a 9 year old. My knees felt like they we hitting the person in front of me and my shoulders were hitting the people next to me. Plus, who thought putting (1) bar right at the entrance was a good idea? Its a cluster of mayhem just to try and get past the mile long line of people trying to get a drink. Dont even bother actually trying to get a drink before your show.
A bit run down but charming. If possible use their parking for a quick exit from the venue
The theatre is a lovely landmark with a great history that extends close to the turn of the century and is an historical treasure. What the theatre shines from in remodeled tip of the hat to original styling, it is woefully inadequate from a behind the leg POV.Performers are often notoriously thought of as divas. I would be just fine if the green room didnt reek of mold and the operating management and select stagehand werent so curmudgeonly. A great thing happens in the art world where performers are paid little or nothing--treat them in an appreciative manner and respectfully and theyll be happy to perform when asked.San Diego-where the Padres cant hold onto good talent and the fixtures of the artistic world run it off through antipathy and active aggression.
The Spreckels Theater is a landmark in San Diego. However it is not Ada Compliant. If you are in the mezzanine area or upstairs you must climb many, many stairs to reach your destination. Are people that are challenged to do this it is extremely uncomfortable. There are no elevators and no accommodations for people that need it. If you go be sure to find out what level you are on when you buy your tickets and that you can actually get to your seat comfortably.
Awesome venue to see a show. Great bartenders and will definitely be going to see future show at this beautiful and historic place.
Nice peaceful ambiance; until you see the transients and drug addicts. People who walk their dogs here dont clean-up after them. The combination of human and dog waste totally ruins this park and its setting.
This place is 1 / San Diegos landmarks great spacious theater old school setup great acoustics
Seat was too close to the seat in front, you pretty much have to empty half the row if someone in the middle needs to use the restroom
Over 100 years of building history; amazing architecture from days of old.
Absolutely Beautiful inside!
Beautiful old building. The seats are tight and the view is alright from the balcony.
Nice place. The show was with a mantra.Learned a lotabout people, places and things.
My son Jaroslav Richters is a dancer with the City Ballet of San Diego, and the perform at Spreckels Theater throughout the season. This classic, early-20th-century theatrical venue also host musicals, comedians & symphonies.
I love their food. Service is great as always.
Saw Conan here for Comic-Con and it was amazing!
Beautiful architecture and lots of awesome history.
Great theater hosts events and shows worth visiting, all that on top of an eye catching structure and a truly royal feeling while there. The staff is super friendly as well.
Beautiful building interior and convenient parking below.
My wife and her friends went to a show here and less than halfway through a manager came over and asked them to leave for talking. No warning, just leave. When my wife requested a refund, he pushed her in the face with his hand! My wife was totally shocked and felt humiliated by this man! This guy should be fired as soon as possible before this place gets sued, you cant assault your patrons! Never going here again, and I wouldnt recommend letting unaccompanied women go to a show here.
City Ballet! Very professionally and artistically sound as always.
Saw the 85 South show! Was great but the sound sucked!!
Looks bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside.
Supper sound and good for all type of venues.
Had a awesome time here seeing Brendan Schaub flim his comedy special.
A great place to hear a concert, as I did. But I know the period styled theater has many different performances. The sound is excellent. The theater only seats a bit over 1400. It is located on Broadway amidst many restaurants. Parking is a bit expensive, a walk of a few blocks will save you money and provide more parking lots to choose from. The area seems safe, with plenty of others walking around and a police presence. Plenty of rentable electric scooters all over. Enjoy the Spreckels theater.
Beautiful theater in the heart of SD, historic and awesome. Limited drink service, plan ahead. Also, if youre afraid of heights stay out of the balcony. Its steep! Sound quality is not great in the balcony, at least for a comedy show. Echoes make it very difficult to understand
Go see shows here, whatever they are. This is a great venue for any performance.
Wish I was able to take pictures of the interior
Beautiful old theater, well kept and easy viewing of the stage
Had a great time at the 85 south show
Adorable theater with lots of character. I visited for a fringe show and it was the perfect location. The theater is a bit small however for larger productions. There are concessions in the lobby and also places to find snacks nearby. Parking can be quite a challenge in this part of town. There are a few lots where you can pay for the evening or you might luck out and find street parking.
Rude employees one especially rude named Amada ruined my time and my families time will not be returning
Love the architecture of this historic theater, I first met David Bowie here in concert back stage, while in high school.
Cool historical. Small and quaint.
The show I came to watch was dance show by Culture Shock. Everything was wonderful! The older lady that helped me was super kind and informing. I also loved the seats and how everything was organized. I definitely enjoyed my show and will be coming back for more in the future!
Beautiful theater. I saw Robin Williams here a long time ago.
Show was excellent! Theatre was beautiful!
Great theater. Sundays ballet performance was superb. The theater temperature was not. Too cold.
Had a big old grin on my face as the the Holiday spirit grew with each piece of The Nutcracker Suite. I enjoyed the large cast of ballet dancers, orchestra, and choir.
First time visiting this theatre to see Ghost B.C.... theatre had an amazingly cozy and welcoming feel!!! I LOVED IT!
Spreckles theater was beautiful. I went here for a ghost concert and the staff was friendly. The place was also clean, which is surprisingly considering the venue was hosting a metal concert at the time. Theyre a little more strict than most venues for concerts, one rule being that confetti is forbidden. I assume its because they feel its the bigger version of glitter and hard to clean. They also did not let any drinks into the theater that were not covered so it was a pretty unfortunate way to force most people into buying overpriced plastic containers to hold glorified piss water that was cheaper than the actual housing it came in. While the bar service was kind, their offerings were extremely limited, there basically only being mixed drinks made exclusively with soda, and trash beer like **bud light**
Love seeing Conan here each year at SDCC
Very nice venue.
Very rude and terrible staff. I missed nearly half the show because another guest was highly intoxicated and threw up all over the ground and seats next to me and several other people. I waited 20 minutes to see if anyone would come clean it up and nobody did. I then went to speak to a manager about the issue Incase they weren’t aware, he immediately told me I was not going to receive a refund without even letting me finish my sentence. I was told all staff was busy including the manager who I spoke to and he claimed he was also busy and he would go clean it up once he was free. The stench of the throw up was unbearable several people moved from their seats and the manager Sean Davis did nothing to accommodate. His only solution was for me and my group of over 14 people move. The only seats available where further back and we specifically bought out the row that was 4 rows from the stage. Aside from this before the show began I went to buy a snack and a water bottle from their own con-session stand for the show, as I re-entered the venue one of the employees stopped me and stated “make sure you don’t leave your trash behind”. It’s unbelievable how rude they were, the staff here has never heard of customer service I guess. I am never coming back here, very poor management. There’s several other venues in San Diego that provide for better experience and service. You’d think they’d invest more into their management considering the historic building is over 100 years old.
A beautiful historic theater. Keeping it this way has its challenges - narrow rows, steep steps and uneven air conditioning. It would take much money to remedy the situation.
Wonderful, intimate venue.
BEAUTIFUL THEATRE! Absolutely stunning building. Great layout, great decorations. Clean and amazing staff.
Beautiful small historic venue.
Had great time at the 85 South Show here
Big seating area and stage not proportional to the stage. Especially in the upper stands. Other than that, decent venue. Gives you what you expect.
3 bartenders for 1500 guests at a comedy show. Doors opened 30 minutes before show. Line for a glass of wine was over an hour. Half of the audience missed first act and part of main act. Video screen kept overheating and interrupted comedians act. Very amateur event planning. We wont visit this venue again.
Wow! Such history! I had met a man whom told me on how he was a bell hop across the street at the US Grant hotel and shared a few awesome stories on Speckles history. Love the architecture! ️
One of the best theatre in SD
Cool theatre in central San Diego!
Amazing venue very cozy
No wheelchair seating at all. I sat behind the last row turned sideways. All they would have to do is take out a couple of seats on the ends of rows like other old buildings have done. The ballet was great though.
Classic design. This is a theater designed in the 1930s. Seats are small and close together with zero leg room for a tall or large person like me. Show was great but seating was uncomfortable. You have been warned.
Classic venue and I always enjoy going here.
Such a beautiful theatre! And I appreciate how much they give back to the community, like donating venues for the San Diego International Fringe Festival.
Famous Spreckels Theater! Photo of the famous side doors to the stage, one on each side. This allowed easy access to the stage for set up! It allowed horse drawn chariots to be driven accross the stage to wow the audience!
The a.c. was non existent people left in the middle of the show. Screaming kids because of the heat is not a great experience. Please fix your a.c..
Love the farmers market on the side of spreckles on fridays
So this is an older downtown theatre in San Diego and has not been up dated for a while. Do not let that detract from the value of the performances the company puts on. Well worth the effort. It is a bonus there is cheap(10$) underground valet parking which you can gain direct access to the lobby safely if you are a single woman not wanting to walk to outside parking lots, so over look the peeling paint. They do have a bar, lines can be long but take cc and cash. Sippy cups so take into the performance
It was a beautiful old theater. It was clean. Easy to find our seats. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Didnt see anything. Just used the parking
Lovely place to attend a theatrical production.
Really great venue lots of history. And the staff was very good. Good times
Great to see Rob Bell and a good venue!
My favorite place on Earth!!
We saw a sold-out comedy show and had a great time, but the theater is way too small to accommodate a full capacity audience. It took almost an hour just to move from the entrance to our seats because we were moving an inch at a time in a crowd, like cattle, and it was far too busy to be able to get a drink at the bar before the show started.
Great Venue for concerts and events
Iconic and Central to downtown.
Very nice place
Lovely old building
