We have always wanted to visit the Seeley Stable. This entire are is beautiful and the museum is amazing. As we walked toward the lamps, we ran into nnivision journalist and immigrant activist Ramos. He was gracious enough to take a picture with us and to have a quick chat. I recommend the visit as you as never know who youll meet.
I keep seeing you cant beat the price on these free museums but please donate if you can, to help keep them open, and running. That being said, this is a great little Museum, with a lot of info on cowboys that we dont get from movies. First floor is wheelchair-accessible, not sure about the second floor. Theres no restroom but there is a public one across the walkway.
Very educational look into the early days of American
Seeley Stable is a museum in Old Town San Diego that consists of a reconstructed stable and barns that house a collection of horse-drawn buggies, wagons, carriages and other western memorabilia. It’s a “well built and sturdy” two-story, square-sided, shingle-roofed barn used to stable horses and house stagecoaches. It probably was the first structure that Albert Seeley, who operated a stage line between Old Town and Los Angeles, constructed after buying the Bandini property in 1869. Seeley enlarged the barn with a single-story rear addition, erected new sheds and fencing, and put up a windmill for pumping water. This is one of the better museums in Old Town. It is also one of the larger ones. They have a great collection of wagons, coaches and a lot of western artifacts. It is spread over two floors. I did not watch it, but they also have a movie presentation. This is definitely a must see if you are in Old Town playing tourist.
Good place to visit if you are interested in history of ground transportation and would love to see what people used many years ago to travel between places like carriages horse driven carts. Place is not very big and free to visit. Parking might be a problem since it is located in San Diego old town and a lot of people visit it every day.
I spent about an hour and a half poking around in here looking at the old stage coaches. Probably could have spent another hour or more. I guess I will have to visit again :)
