What can you say about this place...They have it all, no matter what medium you want to use to express your art. If it is Painting they have Oil, Acrylic, & Water colors ready made or mix your own. For Drawing they have pens, pencils, markers, chalk, & crayons. If you want to Air Brush they everything to get you up and running or to keep you going. Along with all of that they have all of the accessories from canvases to sketch pads
Super cool store, many different art supplies and gadgets. Very nice service and top quality supplies. Overall very cool store to go too.
*I am not an artist so this review should be taken with a grain of salt.*From what I saw, the selection of most things in this store was pretty vast. Not only was the selection of materials themselves varied, there was also an area containing easels, art portfolios ets. I will say I expected a better selection of mechanical pencils but they made up for it with their selection of mechanical pencil led types. The prices are pretty high to me but then again, they could be standard for a specialty store.Lastly, it was pretty difficult to catch an employee on the sales floor. There was one guy stocking new product. I had a question but honestly when we happened to make eye contact he just looked away without a smile.Im the type of shopper that wont ask my question to an employee unless they come up and ask if I need anything or whatever.Honestly I think optimum customer service should always include one or 2 employees making sure everyone in the store has been interacted with at least once before checking out.Anyway, I think this place was pretty good overall but I have to say Ill be relying on Amazon for any future art supply purchases.
Great stock of everything you need to feed your creative side and some things you didnt know existed.
As an artist and a teacher, Blick is my one stop shop for all supplies. The staff are always very helpful, often helping me take loads out to my car. The parking lot adjacent to the store is very convenient. The webmatch program that blick offers is a great way to get quality art supplies on a budget!
Great store for artists. Huge selection, good quality brushes, paints and canvas, decent prices. Just about anything a creative person could want is there.
It has a decent selection of art supplies also for a decent price. Its a nice place to drop by and check out if youre going through little italy and when its not busy it has its own parking lot. They have great back to school sales and Christmas sales, but on regular price, you might get better deals at artists and craftsman.
A lot of the stuff they have on their website isnt actually in the store. I went there for oil paint thinner from a specific brand which was on their website but wasnt in the store. They do carry a lot of Bob Ross oil painting supplies which I love.
Love Blick! Great selection of paint and art equipment. Super fun to just be in the store! A must see for any artist.
What a satisfying experience! All I wanted was there...and what I couldnt find on my own staff was happy to help!
Best place for art supplies not only in the city but in the county and possibly the state.. Ill NEVER go to Hobby Lobby again..!!
Cultural appropriation at it’s best. Filled with a stereotyping staff that assumes any minority is stealing. This company prides itself on having “urban” art supplies, yet does not want to allow urabn artist to purchase these products. Horrible art store, with an even worse staff.
The staff were extremely helpful in helping me find the art supplies I needed.
Outstanding selection of art materials and paints at reasonable prices. Free parking right next to store. This is significant in Little Italy.
I like that theyre technically open right now, but the online ordering for curbside pickup could be much better. You should be able to enter your credit card info online. The way it is now you just submit a wish list and they call you and you have to read them your credit card number over the phone to go there for curbside pickup.I think this is because they have to check to see if what you want is in stock. They dont have a computerized inventory monitoring system like Michaels does, who in addition to proper online ordering for curbside pickup, are also fully open even to walk inside right now.
I come here on my lunch break from work, workers are nice and helpful. They always have what I need, from paint and pastels to hobby knives and texture gels.
Great place to get arts and crafting supplies. Prices are very competitive to online prices. Store is open for in-store shopping.
They have their own parking which is great. No driving around looking for parking
Very nice variety of supplies. staff is super helpful.
As awesome as always, good service, great people.
This is one of my favorite stores, pre-covid, but not they have this strange policy where they wont special order anything. I can go online and get the particular item sent to me (guessing 4-6 weeks in the mail). But, when they have what I want, they are the best!
With the money Ive spent here, the owners can retire. I love this place.
The staff are friendly and seven offer dog treats.
Guy at the door helped me with an issue I was working on, very knowledgeable
Amazing selection as always and great friendly staff
My go to art supply store. Its art heaven.
I brought my son here to buy some art supplies. Its a really cool store. The staff is VERY helpful, and they had EVERYTHING my son needed. And even things he didnt need! They have their own little parking lot, which is WONDERFUL! And your parking is validated as long as you purchase something!
Large selection. But some of the staff wasnt very helpful. But the guy at the front and the girls at the register were very nice.
Employees are snobs. Treated me like I was a shoplifter.
Block is a terrific art store in the heart of Little Italy. They carry oodles of art supplies- if theres another art store in San Diego that comparable, I havent been there yet. If you fin yourself in Little Italy, its definitely worth a stop. If you are a San Diego artist, its worth the drive!
Huge art selection far almost any medium type. A little pricey, but great place for beginners to advanced artist to stroll the aisles.
Blicks is my go to for art supplies. The staff is knowledgeable, the supplies plentiful. If you need to create something, this is the best spot in San Diego to start.
Staff was really helpful and everything was organized. Especial the one way aisles is clear to see and navigate through
Cant go wrong with Blick. Their sales ar ed off the chain. You can find anything here just about. Only complaint is stiff can hey pricey. Highlight recommended.
Great art materials store with excellent products and prices. Giving three starts because of a very uncomfortable experience I had at this location. Having worked at the Blick (Polk St) in San Francisco for over a year, I have learned how to handle a special customer as it is in the company videos you have to watch upon being hired. The protocol is to offer excellent customer service. When entering the store I wasnt asked if I needed any assistance, but was instead followed by an employee who waited by the stairs to see what I was doing. I wouldnt have problem with this (because I wasnt dressed the greatest and classism is a real thing in retail) but I was never asked if I needed any assistance. It was very uncomfortable, especially when the employee stared me down until I walked to the cash register and then immediately left his post. This passive aggressive experience isnt something I would advice in the future, and maybe there is a lesson on how to handle special customers in the near future. Working in the San Francisco location, I would deal with these customers on an everyday basis, sometimes hourly and never had an issue with making a customer feel unwelcomed no matter who they were. Friendliness is key to overcoming special customers, especially in an artist envirement where people dress however they want. Didnt want to give a lower rating because I care abut blick as an old employee but also realize there is an issue.Edit:giving 5 stars because the manager handled the situation accordingly with speed and grace. It is very much appreciated!
Its like the happiest place on earth for artist.
Youre truly a life saver.
Blick is an extremely friendly and well stocked store with anything you could want for art supplies. Their mechanical pencils selection and drafting pens is vast with any option you could want. They have hundreds of notebooks, pads and paper options along with colored pencils, pens, paint and any other supply you could possible want. They have tons of staff around to help and everyone is very helpful and upbeat.
Very clean, very organized, taking covid seriously but still maintaing a welcoming and professional environment. Staff were helpful, well informed, and respectful. A model Blicks location and experience.
Line outside but efficient and quick. 15 minutes Im and out.
The staff is always very friendly. They greet you as you enter and get you to the correct area. They will walk with you and help you find what you need if you are new to the store. They are also very knowledgable, so if you arent sure what you need they can assist you. It looks small from the outside, but its a fairly large store with a lot of supplies. Peeling is easy too as there is an Ace lot right off the store and it is free and reserved for Blick customers during the day. Happy art supply shopping.
Great neighborhood supply store in little Italy. They have free parking for shopping in the store. They have fun cards and trinkets when you enter that are always fun, in addition to all of their art supplies. The staff isn’t always knowledgeable on all of the products, but the convenience of the store makes up for it.-
Blocks is such a fun place to go and I love that it is still in Little Italy. Its expensive - yes, but you arent there to bargain shop. It has all the stuff for an artist to drool over. And in a time where we buy so many of these items online, its a neat thing to be able to interact and compare so many items.
Best art supply store ever!
The only place to go in Little Italy neighborhood of downtown San Diego for top quality art supplies, including over thirty brands of watercolor, oil, and acrylic paints from German, French, Japanese, Chinese and American suppliers, canvas and paper to paint or draw on, paint brushes from over ten different brush makers, charcoal, fixatives, modeling clay, spray guns and cans, resin, you name it, they have it. The staff are warm and friendly, knowledgeable about painting, drawing, sculpture, and cheerfully guide you to the correct aisle in the huge, supermarket size store.
I go here all the time, and the brands that you find here are more than what youd be able to find at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. They offer student discounts in certain times and really great discounts during the holidays. I think its worth it if youre dedicated to the arts and you want a place to get higher quality products. The only catch is that its a pretty busy place to navigate through if you are planning on going here by car. Thankfully they have a small parking lot, but if youre taking the trolley it isnt too far from the stop and its convenient.
Great place to buy affordable and high quality art supplies!
Blick is a very nice store, it also has free parking for customers right on the left-hand side. Although, its in little Italy so its very busy almost always unless you get there before it opens and wait. Its also incredibly expensive, but the quality is there. If you dont need to get your spllues right away its probably best if you just order off of Amazon, but there might not be as big of a selection. One plus is that they offer student and teacher discounts, just show them your school ID.
They have everything i need... i feel like kid in candy store... so many great artist supplies to choose from...
They have variety of things but that staff is not friendly at all. I was waiting to go in the bathroom and the lady with short curly hair who works there let the door shut and saw I was waiting and didnt even tell me the code. Second employee, tall with dirty blonde hair as well did the same thing. Looking at thing & they are so close to you constantly watching you if you going to steal something! Never coming back such unfriendly store, this is why I will stick to Michaels!
It has everything an artist of almost any medium could want! And some really neat knick knacks and activites for the whole family to peruse. And the customer service is usually very good! A little pricey, but they have great sales sometimes. Definitely worth the visit!
Nice place to go for art supplies! Large stock, they have almost everything!
Big supply of water color paints.
As an artist I appreciate this place because they are well rounded with their supplies they sell. Blick is awesome! Also they have a great gift section. Super annoying that the lady asked me if I was still doing alright about 19 times in ten minutes. I think they were over doing it with their assets protection and possibly just profiling me because of my tattoos. I dont steal ever, so they made me feel really uncomfortable. I had to tell her to stop and leave me alone,
Great store.
This is a great store to buy art supplies! They have EVERYTHING. Notebooks, papers, watercolors, canvases, oils, acrylics, pencils of many kinds and even copics that arent locked up! Its perfect and I love that its 2 story. Better than michaels or hobby lobby. I like that its in downtown so I can go with my friends and then eat some food and explore. First time we parked though was kinda confusing, but I would definetly recommend
Great place a lot of different stuff
Wonderful customer service and free store parking as long as you get the code and enter it properly. Takes like 3 more minutes not a big deal. They have plenty of supplies for all art.
Good supply stock, but the staff here is really mean and unhelpful.
Ladies at the checkout were not very accommodating. I had to wait unnecessarily to PAY for my items. And this was my FIRST purchase-trip to the store. Maybe I will have a better customer experience the next visit... IF I go back. Sorry, BLICK. I was sorely disappointed.
Friendly, knowledgeable employees & a vast array of art materials.
Simply said ... THE BEST! Extensive art supplies available as well as many unique gift items for all ages.
A truly well stocked art supply store. I could have spent much more time there perusing the incredible selection but I entered shortly before closing time. I did purchase some nice gifts for my artistic children.
Love this store, love the staff, love the selections. I get almost all of my art supplies from here.
Went last week. Great variety, got everything I needed. Rude cashier.
Its like a candy store for artists
A hidden gem this store is. I had never been here and the selection of paper alone is out of this world. I was disappointed with the selection of coloring books.
Nice store with good inventory, carry air brush gun and compressor I needed and they discounted to Internet low price automatically. Cashier and staff courteous and helpful. Traffic is slow, they have free parking available.
Its a good art store but they didnt have exactly everything we were looking for such as a variety of wax seal wax, and stamps to go along. They had a great variety of paints and charcoal types though. The location is great but the parking is not so great. A little walk is fine though since it is in little Italy after all.
Blick Arts is too amazing. I cant go into this store too much because of how much I love it! Excellent variety of stock!
They have everything at this place! Its great!!! But you can spend a fortune easily!
All art supplies Everything you need. Any medium. Fantastic selection.
Large 2 story store, but very busy, hard to get help, but still great selection!
Wonderful art supply store. They had everything I needed. Knowledgeable sales people. Parking is very limited with a time limit. I prefer the Pasadena store where I don’t have to rush to avoid a ticket.
Im loathe to shop at a retail giant, and prefer something local, but here I am at Blick once in a blue moon. They have a good supply of a wide variety of things. Theyre mainstream, and have supplies for beginners through professionals. They have an abundant supply of fairly knowledgeable staff which is very helpful (I go in with a list and let them fill my basket). Their prices are what you might expect from a retail giant who has high overhead (lots of staff, a broad array of supplies, downtown location). They have student discount cards (free) and have periodic sales that make them reasonable (back-to-school yields 20-40% off). I wouldnt shop them any other time than during a sale and shop local whenever I can (Artist & Craftsman Supply, Visual).
I want someone to buy me all my favorite colored pens... Lol
Cool little shop with fun, whimsical items in addition to those practical art supplies
Gaaaaaaaa!! I know these are weird times but.... I just spent an hour trying to place a curbside order through the website. It is extremely hard to navigate.
Its like the home depot of art and crafts
Best art supply store in the area. Staff is super nice and helpful. Very well-stocked. Make sure to sign up to be a preferred customer to save greatly. Also, look online first because a majority of the prices are cheaper there, and, as a preferred customer, they will match the web price.
Prices are $$ in the Middle, but its worth coming here because they have most things Artist or Hobbiest need & If Im right but dont quote me on this Student get a Discount & being a member get you benefits of getting coupons send by mail or email when they are having deals that can Save you money .So if your coming here in a Professinal or as Artist its worth it just know what you need because Price can get Exspensive with lots of things that you can Add mattering on what your getting & your price range, but you can Still save if you know when to come when they have deals on something or if your just checking the clearance area .
AMAZING prices for AMAZING products. The atmosphere is so nice and happy, its so easy to spend a few hours just browsing! The smell is refreshing and the local art featured on the walls bring forth so much inspiration. Everyone should switch from Michaels to Blick if they can, the prices and quality are so much better at Blick.
Great selections to choose from! Staff is attentive and helpful.
Great store! As an artist i like variety and lots of color and this store offers both. They have a small reserved parking lot which is quire nice if you have ever deigned to travel to little italy. Great service and overall great prices
Great inventory. Helpful staff.
Wonderful for buy every thing for art and designs
Staff was very friendly and helpful, not just in finding and talking about their available supplies, but also in suggesting places to go to find classes and gatherings with other artists. As a person still new in town, it was very helpful to receive that information.
The staff were kind and very helpful both with advice and bringing me things I was not able to get myself.
Awesome selection, friendly staff. Prices are a bit higher for common items but they have a great selection of hard to find supplies. A great place to get creative gifts, especially for kids.
Well light, well displayed, easy to find things, and so much variety! Its a great place to get ideas as well as buy the stuff to carry them out!
This is the nirvana of San Diego art supply stores. When you walk in it smells like linseed oil, wood pencils, canvas and paper. For an artist it awakens a hunger to create and they have a lot to create with.I was looking for some thing new to me. I started hunting with the novelty items near the door. I visited the fancy papers, so many pretty rice papers! And I found the paints, and brushes and more paint. I eventually decided to try Dick Blick liquid watercolor paint in turquoise, blue-green, orange and fuchsia. The 8oz bottles on sale for $3.87 which is a great value. At this price I can afford to play around with the paints without worrying about wasting them.
Nice organize store. Very good stock of supplies shelves are always full and very helpful staff.
This is a wonderful place, chock-full of useful artists supplies. A neighborhood landmark, and the stomping grounds of local artists.
I love the overall selection in this place, although they dont have *quite* as good of a crafting selection (I like woodcut printmaking and this isnt really the spot to go to, even though that can be considered more art than crafting). Also, I feel like Im taking a mission just to go to this place and need to prep myself for the traffic, one-way streets, and backing out of my parking spot without hitting pedestrians just to leave. So bad location, I guess Im saying.
