A Beautiful and Historic CarouselRoguetrippers are huge fans of antique carousels (carrousels). The craftsmanship that goes into making them is definitely a lost art. When we arrived at Seaport Village the first thing we saw was this vintage LOOFT carrousel.Of course we had to take a ride$3.00 per person to ride. They have some amazing animals that you dont often see on many carrousels. The ride was a good length of time. The girl operating was very friendly. This carrousel is very well maintained and in great shape. What a beautiful way to start our day at the Seaport Village.@rogue_trippers on instagram and twitter.
Historically speaking, this carousel is an incredible testament to the novelty of seaside fun. However, the service was severely lacking and about half of the horses were out of order. We had a good time, but were disappointed by the rudeness of the attendant.
If you are in San Diego, you must experience this place. Food, shops, scenery. We always visit here when we come to SD from New York and will continue to visit when we move to the West coast
My wife and I loved the journey this carousel has been on. It was in at least a couple locations in Portland some decades ago. Its in great condition for how many times its been moved. It was a pleasure to ride with my wife.
So awesome to see such a relic still in use and it runs very smooth. There are histories of both the carousel and its maker to read. Fun and educational the best combo.
Classic. seems to spin faster than many large carousels!
We take the granddaughter. She loves it once she picks the animal she wants to get on. The people who run it are very friendly. They just need some lively music.
2019/01/09. Im confirming this Place is still open & in operation & in Seaport Village, San Diego, CA, USA.The linked Website names this carousel, the 1895 Fair Park Looff Carousel. Change name of this Google Place? To match & specifically identify which carousel.Example name - 1895 Fair Park Looff Carousel by Charles I.D. Looff.Built by Charles I.D. Looff, who made several carousels, including another one at Seaport Village, that was replaced by this current one.So there have been 2 Looff carousels at Seaport Village. That is reason why Im asking if this Place name should be changed. To specifically identify which carousel.I highly recommend this to anyone who wonders if you maybe interested. If you havent ridden a carousel, do it if available & you dont have problems with it.Great classic moving/rotating carousel ride. Many figurines to ride, hand carved by an artist, mainly horses. A bear, giraffes, camels, even a fantastic hybrid between what appears to be a seahorse(?) with a dragon(?) head, & others I dont recall right now. Also an open carriage/wagon, with bench seat, like classic horse drawn type (or reindeer in Santas case).Options to ride figures that move up & down, or stationary/level; your preference.Plays the typical classic music of carousels, circuses, fairs.Very ornate, with pictures posted throughout (like scenic paintings).Mirrors cover the wall of the center hub. Creates an assistant effect of more, greater space & seemingly more carousel.Posted signs show the history of the carousel, & the creator, & the rules & safety requirements.Big. Takes a while to slow down when they turn off the ride; sometimes the staff helps stop it.Future? Check news of Seaport Village. The whole place is being remodeled/reconstructed.I dont know if this carousel will survive the reconstruction & remain in operation. Hopefully it will remain in operation. A major asset & special attraction at Seaport Village.
Love this place my kids enjoyed it hope they relocate this San Diego landmark

Very cool carousel. Our daughter enjoyed it very much!
Very friendly staff and decent length to the ride. Only pay $3 / kid - adults can stand next to their kids on horses for free.
A historic piece of art to enjoy for all ages
This is an old turn of the century Carousel. The employees are friendly and accommodating. A huge addition to Seaport Village.
We always have a great time on the carousel!
Definitely a must 3$ ride they dont charge if a adult needs to assist. Rides goes for three minutes.
Cool place for kids and a really interesting history
My granddaughter loved it. She rode it twice.
My baby loved her ride
Dirty, left over food on tables, bird poop on chairs and tables.
Beautiful carousel and kids ride for $3.00
Great ride for only $3. Adults dont have to pay if they just stand next to their child. Lasts a good five minutes, too!
Im local and I bring my daughter to this carousel every few weeks. We enjoy the ride and my daughter loves it. They need to adjust their times accordingly. Recently we got there after 8 and each time they were closed for some reason:- once they were on 30 min break- last time they closed at 8:45 while they advertise that they close at 9- etc
Its a great place for anyone if they are new to San Diego and to see the old culture of this area
Interesting history to this carousel.
It was cool up until the ride ended, the kids operating the ride was too busy on their phones when my kids was stuck on the ride that the operator strapped them onto, my wife had to walk on the opposite side to fine both my kids struggling to get off the ride, need to have a supervisor onsite
Carousel is always fun!
