Horrible experience. Stickers everywhere couldnt camp out. Some staff people were friendly others changed once you couldnt get a refund. If they get my full refund great if not thats horrible customer service. My kids were devastated when we couldnt stay. Then accused me of lying. I wouldnt recommend. Please fix this so people can enjoy themselves.
Large pecan trees, had the park to ourselves, nice quite stay
Sadly, we ended up going on one of the coldest days. The trails are not marked very well after the trail start and I found it extremely difficult to navigate. The entrance staff was not super friendly or helpful (had to ask for a trail map/ asked where a specific trail was/ and where the best place to park is)- he actually appeared to be annoyed. I’m giving him an 80% pass because it was very unusually chilly. We did the rattlesnake trail 3.1 mile trail (I think?) or perhaps we were just roaming around lost for 3.1 miles. We saw some deer and there were lots of Buffalo from afar. There is almost no protection from the wind due to the desert scenery. I’ve heard tale when the weather is nice that you will see lots of 3 toed lizards. Kids and I plan on trying again and hoping for a different experience.
Clean and quiet just how we likeit
As usual, the staff is super friendly and helpful. We snuck in a quick hike between rain showers and had a nice experience. All the game trails can really make you question where you are, but its a nice place close to town to get away.
Very nice state park, great for hiking and biking
Lots of bike trails but not very pretty.
Really nice park with easy pull-thrus. Only spent one night but walked some trails and went down to the water. It was a nice stop over.
This state park is beautiful. The people manning the front office is friendly. We didnt get to see the animals while we were visiting but there was plenty of wildflowers on the trail and camping areas. The book nook is a nice addition to the park. I hope they keep it there and it gets updated as people pass by.
Very beautiful, for west texas... very helpful staff! Excellent camping for horses .
Stayed in campground one night in transit. Pleasant staff. Big sites. Lakes water level looked low. Scenery is typical Panhandle, but currently some lovely wildflowers and the prickly pear is about to bloom. Playground for kids. Boat launch.
Very nice, quiet park. Perfect for family bonding.
Family loved this place
Not a bad state park, cool things to do
Beautiful. Would liked to have seen some buffalo...maybe next time.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!! I get there, check in, I have to ask for a hiking map, the Ranger gives me one and Im on my way. After 40 min of driving cannot find my trailhead. I go all the way back to the entrance and the Ranger tells me shes sorry she have me the wrong map. Your kidding me......I didnt 40 min driving around for nothing. People who can give the correct map out should be in these jobs....... Its not brain surgery!!!
Very nice park!
Fishing on the lake this morning. Good access to the boat ramp not crowded the water is calm.
Great friendly staff, helped us obtain site in Red Arroyo after we had reservation in bald eagle. Noce clean park.
Absolutely terrible place, we left 15 minutes after checking in!
Great hiking, biking and horse trails, with water supply.
This is a very nice park we stay when coming to san angelo
Beautiful park with lots of different wildlife to see! The RV parking has great views and the park staff is exceptional!!
Nice spot, very informative Ranger
Poor shower and restroom facilities. One had no hot water, all three need good cleaning top to bottom. Dont look at the ceilings.
Love this place ever since I was a kid great fishing.
Very pretty park with great camping and fishing at very reasonable rates
The park has great trails to run! Some bike, hike, and ride horses.
Great scenic and peaceful park! Nice trails, great staff and nice sites. Adding a laundry room would be a big plus!
Great place to see wildlife and get out into nature for a while.
Nice helpful staff.
Love the Park 50 plus miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails. Lots of wildlife, the park is clean, and the lake provides swimming and fishing.
Uh.... this place was deadEverything was brown.... dried up. The views were horrible. The lady at the gate was as nice as peach pie.... we asked for a scenic view to have a nice picnic lunch... she gave us directions to the most crappiest part of the park. A total was of money and time. Im not being overly critical here... just giving our honest opinion. It was beyond sad. They should close this place up....
I copied this from my review of the main map location. I had a great time RVing here. The spaces are spread out so you can have privacy. But it would be nice to have neighbors a bit closer. Sometimes it is fun to mingle with all the neighbors and be social. Their staff is incredibly friendly and do a great job maintaining the park. The only problem is that they have a very bad wasp/hornet problem around the restrooms and the dump station. Other than that... It was all good!
Large park, pretty desert landscape. Minimal shade and poorly marked trails made an August visit pretty uncomfortable. Would be easier to enjoy in spring or fall.
Nlce wildlife...must see buffalo.
Not my kind of park. I wont go back there. If you have a trailer maybe it would be fine but for rent camping its a no go.
One of our fav state parks.
So far so good!! The lake is low presently, the bunk house sleeps 6 comfortably. We needed to do a little cleaning, rule of thumb, you should always leave the place you stay cleaner than you found it, unless it is a hotel room, hehe!!
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Nice place, plenty to do
First time hiking the trails. The markers could be a little better but overall the trails we did were enjoyable.
Love to see the water coming back up in the lake.
Im a disabled Veteran and am supposed to be allowed in State Parks for free. My family and I went here, it was right at closing time, I had all my paperwork to show the person working so we could get in. The lady pretty much told me that since i wasnt in the system we couldnt go in. She said, rather rudely that we could pay the money or leave. I guess that taught me to try to actually get any benifit of being a disabled Combat Veteran.
A true gem in our area. Great camping, very clean facilities & sites, & wonderful staff--both paid, AND the volunteers.
Lots of trails. Love it.
Lovely afternoon drive on the way home from Caverns of Sonora!
Wildflowers are amazing this year!
