Is was so wonderful to be back in the theatre! They were super safe during this time of COVID-19. We sat very far from anyone. We stayed in our seated area during intermission. And they dismissed us by rows to keep distanced. Ballet West is always a treat to watch. We love this theatre. The seats are beautiful. The bathrooms are clean. Great facility.
I was the DJ on the Rooftop Lounge of the Capitol Theatre. Really nice wedding venue! Impressive view to be immersed among the big city. Really nice staff. Was kinda hard to follow instructions to get up top. You have to park on the east side parking, to the right of the building, walk to the other side of the building, and there youll find a long ramp with a special door, that leads to an elevator, that takes you right to the Rooftop. Bring a good cart so that you only have to make one trip.
Ballet last night was incredible, performed 3 pieces, all extremely beautiful. So nice to be back at Capitol Theater for the ballet. Adam Skulte was great to listen to and educated the audience about each piece. Covid protocols were over the top perfect.
The remodel is very nice. Its nice to have some leg space finally at the opera. The opera itself was a different story. Minimalistic opera just doesnt seem to work.
A grand and recently renovated theater for the performing arts. We recently saw Ballet West here and have seen USUO operas as well.
Went there for a college graduation.Seating was comfy. Very beautiful inside. Sound was so clear when ppl spoke.FABULOUS BUILDING.
Awesome place. Terrible parking. If your going to an event here plan at least an extra 15 minutes for parking.
Beautiful traditional.proscenim theatre. The Utah Opera Company often presents here.
My family and I had an wonderful time at the Nutcracker by the ballet here. It was a beautiful ballet down to the costumes and stage and it was accompanied by a well rehearsed orchestra that made the performance much more lively. I would recommend this show and this show house to all ages. It accommodates for young and old well. It also smelt nice inside, sort of like scones, which I though was interesting (nothing overwhelming). We loved attending the ballet this Christmas Eve!
Its interesting how an absolutely stunning building can come to be taken for granted by so many of the locals especially in the Salt Lake Valley. Yet visitors from all over the globe are immediately taken by it design and beauty. Then it should be mentioned that it does have very good acoustics and is very easy on the eyes as to the ears. A wonderful venue over-all!!
The Capitol Theatre is so very beautiful. It reminds me of some of the nicer theatres in NYC. It is full of rich history. My husband and I loved The Nutcracker Ballet. It was magnificent! The costuming, scenery, choreography were magical. The dancing was superb.
We were able to attend the dress rehearsal for jewels tonight with my daughters ballet class. What an incredible art form. It blows my mind how much core strength they have and balance. Beautifully done. My 6 year old hyper son actually sat still for the most part and my 9 yr old daughter loved it. What a gorgeous building also. The chandeliers were stunningly. Beautiful
Beautiful building, great performances, horrible seating. The seating is worse than the worst bargain airline seating. There is no room. Often you can be in a seat that should have a good view, but if a person in front of you sits forward just a little, even several rows in front of you, your view may get blocked. They have great performances though, and the building really is beautiful. They should have fixed the seating when they remodeled, though. Its also to narrow of seating. Its especially bad if you are sitting next to one of todays all to common larger persons. That may not be a politically correct thing to say, but reality is, you could be in hell in your seats. Choose an aisle seat.
Wonderful productions here by Ballet West. Talented dancers, beautiful scenery, and moving performances. Capitol Theatre is a nice building with pretty chandeliers, comfortable seating, and restrooms on each floor. Concessions available. Staff friendly and efficient. Some street parking available or public parking garages on both sides of the street. (The parking garage right next to the theatre was $7 for evening performance, but very slow to leave, 30 mins+. Next time I will look for parking elsewhere).
Great place to come for any performance! From Miss Utah, to the ballet or even a concert, weve seen it all! The only down side is that the seats are quite narrow with little leg room. If youre a tall person, get the front row or an end.
Very nice theater. If you sit in the front two rows on the balcony they view is excellent, however if you have long legs you will be cramped in those two rows. I was warned about this by the ticket office but purchased them anyway just for the view. Despite being a little tight for my legs, I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
An absolutely gorgeous edifice to Salt Lake City history and the arts!Comfortable seats with ideal acoustics make it easier to find yourself entirety immersed into the show!Stunningly beautiful architecture provides a 5star backdrop! If you go to a show, do make sure you allow yourself plenty of extra time to find parking, but if you dont mind a brief walk there is usually plenty of spaces distributed among several lots all within 1-3 blocks.Incredible atmosphere and history make The Capitol Theatre a must-see for your next show!
I have always really enjoyed my experience seeing a good film at Capital Theatre. They play the quality films that I can’t find playing at the big theaters in Salt Lake City.. If you are into the more indie, or foreign films, this is the place to go.. When I hear about a good film that probably won’t make it to the main stream theaters.. I can count on Capital Theatre to be showing it.. I highly recommend this theatre.!
Its a beautiful theater. Great place for the ballet or opera. They redone the seating giving a little more legroom. Which is good because I am 6 7 and need all the legroom I can get.
Perfect place to shop for a camper! Fast friendly service
Very impressed with the TheatreIt’s in impecable condition for its age!Comfortable and convenientThe performance of Pagliacci was extraordinaryOur Seats T 121 & 123 had a great View and Affordable only $34 + ExtrasAll in all Superb experienceVerraco Glad we had the Chance to GoAlways wanted to se this Opera
If this were just about the experience behind the scenes, I would give it five stars. I am sentimental about this elegant venue, having grown up performing our annual masterpiece of a concert each year at Capitol Theatre - as a member of the Childrens Dance Theatre. My 10th grader continues this tradition, and my recent high school graduate has also performed here a few times with her choir. Needless to say, I have been an audience member many times, sitting -- or taking photographs for most of the events involving my children -- in nearly every part of the theater. I love the view of the stage from the mezzanine level, which is where I choose to sit when I am there to just enjoy the show.My only complaint is that the seats in the upper-most section, farthest from the stage, really limited my ability to see and enjoy the one show I did not get to choose where to sit at that theater -- the traveling broadway production of the musical Wicked -- years ago. I do not know if they have plans to restore the theater to accommodate better views of the stage, as well as sound quality. However, overall, I have had a lovely experience at this theater, and the staff have been very understanding of me when in my photographer role. They have also been helpful when I have accompanied preschool children to a matinee, or have been late due to parking issues!
Rachel Portman’s, and Nicholas Wright’s The Little Prince was my first opera experience, and the Utah Opera has set the bar very high! The director Tara Faircloth did an amazing job bringing the whole production together! The children’s choir did fantastic and added a cool element to the show. The set, costumes and storyline was beautiful! And perfectly executed!
Beautiful Theatre! I love historical theatres. There is something incredible, the ambiance of such an elegant place. Ballet West always puts on an incredible show and this venue is a perfect place to showcase the talent of these dancers.
LOVED The Nutcracker, the only frustration was being surrounded by kids jumping around on their seats and kicking my chair the whole time. Wish theyd do adults only sessions. Lovely theater and Ballet West is absolutely stunning.
Went to see the final dress rehearsal of The Little Prince and loved it! Clean and BEAUTIFUL theatre. I was in the upper balcony and the seats are a bit close together and the leg room is minimal. This wasn’t as much of an issue for me as it was for my grandfather whom I brought with me. Just something to note.
Great classical old theater. Scenery was amazing. Orchestra was good and the dancers were talented. I enjoyed the evening there.
This theater never fails to amaze me. They house some of the best plays and musicals in the valley. The theater itself is gorgeous and one of the things to marvel at in downtown Salt Lake City. The lighting and technical side is modern and the actresses and actors can be heard and seen all around the theater. The chairs are comfy and serve their purpose. Therefore, one of my favorite theaters, and Ive been to numerous Broadway theaters.
Capitol Theater is a great venue for plays and similar entertainment. It has stood the test of time in a lot of ways. The location is both an asset to the theater experience and a frustration to the theater goer. There is parking but it just never seems adequate enough. For the most part, good experiences are to be had here. The attendants are competent. Audiences are well behaved. Seats are comfortable. Prices vary with events. Egress is basically just completely dependent on where and if you parked or if you were dropped off.
Its a beautiful theater but the lower level seats arent staggered and you cant take drinks into the theater. Otherwise the acoustics are great and the balcony seats are pretty good. Very close together.
Love the venue and the performances there but being a very old theatre, the seating on the upper levels were obviously made for smaller people, however in my opinion sitting upstairs is the best place to view the performances. I understand that the renovation on the main floor is wonderful.
Beautiful building, lovely staff. My family and I go there regularly for Ballet Wests amazing performances.
Great place to watch a ballet. Still too few bathrooms, but its much better than it used to be....
An absolutely beautiful theater with amazing history, high quality shows and very helpful and friendly staff. A must see.
We went to the 75th anniversary Nutcracker performance. It was amazing. Loved it.
Went and saw the Nutcracker here. Beautiful auditorium and great cast putting on the show
Beautiful theater and a very enjoyable experience. Would give 4.5 stars if possible.
What a wonderful balet. We saw Giselle. Outstanding performance. Highly recommend.
Remodeling worked out well. Saw Silent Night which was well done. Parking was convient. It was a very enjoyable evening.
Nice place, loved it!!!
Amazing! My studio had the opportunity to go here for a first look at Balanchines russes in the last dress rehearsal. It was a very nice place, although a bit hot. And its also so beautiful!
This is the beautiful home of the Ballet West and the Utah Opera. Its an older venue with historic significance. Definitely worth it to see an event here!
Giselle was exquisite. The dancing was indescribable, the costumes, stage setting, orchestra were all outstanding.
Beautiful setting. Small enough that even the nosebleed seats are pretty good. But sit down front of you can afford it !
Love the quality of the shoes. Just dont like the lack of leg room or personal space
Went to the ballet. Amazing performance and great show.
Capitol has been restored and beautifully. They have created more seats and a deeper level decline. It’s classic and I’ve been going there all my life to the opera.
The Nutcracker was one of the cutest, most magical things Ive ever seen! I took my teenage daughter, and it was one of the most memorable events of my life. We are going to try and go every year for the rest of our lives. The place has such a rich history. The inside is beautiful and elegant. All of the attendants were courteous, warm, and inviting. I cant wait to go again.
Such an amazing theatre. From the outside it might look small but its very spacious and yet you feel very close to the performances. All seats provide great views of the stage.
Beautiful historic theatre. Giselle was amazing. Ballet West outdid itself.
Have always enjoyed the Capital Theater and have attended events often. However, the seating is just terrible and has not improved with the recent renovation. They are simply too close together. At the last performance, several people next to me left during intermission and said they were simply too uncomfortable to stay.
The production of Snow White was so wonderful for the kids to see! They were so interested! Thank you, Ballet West!
I love Ballet West! I’ve been seeing their productions here for the past few years since I’ve moved here and I always love the Capitol Theatre. I cannot wait to see what they do with the renovations-the seats were a little small and super close together before!
The performance of Ballet West was great! We were able to get tickets the day of on Valentines day which was a bonus. The seats were very tiny though (fine for me but not my husband who is about 290 lbs). The good news though is that they announced closing this spring to have new bigger seats installed!! That will bring it up to 5 stars!
We saw the Nutcracker. It was awesome! Would definitely see again!
The first show I saw in the Capitol theater was Ballet Wests Cinderella.I almost didnt get to see it, because my mom made me pay for my ticket, and I resented having to do yard and shop work to earn the $35.But then I saw the show and I was blown away.I was a beginning ballet student at the time, and I really had no idea how ballet worked. I remember being super impressed that one dancer stayed on her toes for a full minute or something. I thought she must be in such incredible pain, because I had just started wearing pointe shoes myself.I remember the bright red curtains And all the gold leaf. I had only ever done and seen shows in my high schools auditorium. An actual theater was a revelation. I am glad this was my first.Ive seen ballets and musicals there over the years. I even got to perform with the Utah Opera as a dancer one year.I always think back to my first Cinderella. What a pleasure for a young small town kid. They are currently re doing the house (summer 2019) but there really are no bad seats, just far away ones. Pricing is really good and Ballet West will be doing Cinderella again soon.
Had an amazing time during the Opera days! The Capitol Theatre is classy and beautiful.
Went to see Snow White the ballet with my grandchildren. They loved it. Absolutely beautiful inside.
I enjoyed the ambiance. Very comfortable seats. Beautiful foyer, and great stage!
Newly renovated main floor is great!
We were there to see La Traviata the other day and we loved it. The performance was masterful and the venue was superb. Thank you to Utah Symphony and Utah Opera!
I love Capitol Theatre! Gorgeous historical building! Treat yourself with beautiful performances at Capitol Theater ones a while, and you wont regret it!!!
This theater has a lot of charm. It is such a great place to take the family and watch The Nutcracker or other ballet is being performed here. There really isnt a bad seat in the house. There arent any poles or supports obstructing anyones View. The lobby is very quaint with chandeliers and beautiful staircases.
Beautiful theater. Saw the ppera Silent Night, wonderful!
My daughter and I had a wonderful time as usual. Parking is plentiful yet can be somewhat tricky if youre not used to it. There is a paid parking garage at the theatre but be careful here because after the show it may take a while to get out. Especially if you end up parking at the top. There is metered parking on the street as well. It was Sunday so we parked at the post office for free and had to walk a couple blocks.
Seeing The Nutcracker this evening was fantastic, my sister and I had a great time for the most part. The one problem we had run into was the 3rd seating attendant that we spoke with. When we initially walked in the doors I spoke with a gentleman to find our seats, he was very helpful and gave us directions to where to find the lower section of the theatre. On our way there another attendant wanted to help us, but she wasnt familiar with our seats, she asked us to follow her to an attendant that had been around a whole longer. After asking the more experienced attendant she helped us into the theatre where we spoke to this 3rd person. We had row n tickets with one of them being a wheelchair access ticket, this 3rd person looked at our tickets and suggested that we just sit down in the back row, because it would be easiest, even though the tickets showed the correct wheelchair access seats. I told her we were just going to go find our seats, considering the tickets were the pricier, correctly purchased tickets, AND THE THEATRE EXPECTED HER SPECIAL NEEDS. When we were walking away she hollared at me that we cant sit her in the aisle, to which I replied dont worry we wont the next attendant was great and sat us down right where she was waiting for us. (The 2nd attendant apologized over and over for taking us to the upper area, but I let her know she was perfectly fine and it wasnt a problem, very kind young lady). The show was a wonderful performance, but the first half of the show my sister stressed out about why shed be sat in the back and trying to be as perfect as possible, so she would fit in... again amazing experience, but I hope the 3 attendants that didnt cause my sister to stress out know how amazingly helpful they each were and we were very grateful.
This place I would highly recommend to people that really enjoy theatrics plays and music. I would say for really anyone that just can sit threw it and really enjoy what it has to offer with friends and or loved ones.
It was my first time at the Opera, and the Theatre helped make the experience so wonderful. Such a beautiful, intricate, and classy place. The architecture is phenomenal. The staff was very helpful, and the opera itself (we saw Aida) was a beautiful performance. Definitely felt like I was transported back to the 1800s.
Never seen an opera before. Saw La Traviata and it was an incredible experience. Would recommend to others.
Its a gorgeous theater, but there is NO leg room. If you are more than 56, you will not fit.
La Traviata was beautiful but, unfortunately, I was unable to enjoy the Opera fully due to zero leg room in my mezzanine seat. My knees were painfully pressed into the seat infront of me the whole performance. There was no room to move at all and I felt trapped and claustrophobic. Not sure what was improved in the recent renovation seems they sacrificed comfort to add more seating. I have been attending shows at the Capitol Theater since I was 12 years old and this is the first time I have been uncomfortable in my seat. I will be hesitant to come back as seats with any sort of leg room are pretty expensive.
Beautiful theatre! Definitely recommend going to see an opera there and no seat is a bad seat. Parking on West Temple is the cheapest. Make sure to allow time for parking and be a little early for seating. They offer the purchase of snacks during intermission and have opportunities before/after the show to learn more about the story or meeting the crew.
This is a place I come to make memories with my family. The building is beautiful and steeped in tradition and history. A magical place to see an opera or ballet. Allow yourself be transported to another world for a few hours, you will not be disappointed.
The charming atmosphere of this theater dramatically improves any production that comes to preform here!
Nice Theater. Saw the Nutcracker and enjoyed every minute of it.
Great staff, lots of food booths, alright seats. Nutcracker by ballet west was great.
Very beautiful venue. We saw The Nutcracker and it was fantastic!
I saw The Magic Flute, Onegin, and Swan Lake recently and adored the productions. Such a charming place. The seats are really narrow, though, so the fit is tight and can be a little uncomfortable. I can’t wait to see how the revamp it once the renovations are done.
Lovely evening at Nutcracker. Nice staff.
I love productions here. It was justa little disappointing we got there just when it started and they wouldnt seat is. We had to sit in the back even though it was just beginning, and it was all orchestra. We had second row tickets. But we were able to move up during intermission. Other than that, the show was great! Its recommended to go early and check the show times. (I thought we were a half hour early but it was starting!)
I love this theater. Great staff and its beautiful.
Swan lake was incredible from the box seats. The principal ballerina was outstanding!!!! The staff is always kind. The will call staff greeted us with smiles and were friendly, helpful. The quality of performances are never less than perfection here.
Snacks are incredibly overpriced but the venue was beautiful and the performance (the nutcracker) was amazing.
We saw The Nutcracker. The theater has new remodeling since I was here last. Its beautiful. I love the nostalgia and history they preserved. The new sets and costumes are GORGEOUS. But... its very warm inside the theater. Even uncomfortable. Many people around us were fanning with programs. And eager to get out of there. Which is disappointing.
Capitol Theatre is a Utah tradition. The building has a rich history and since the most recent remodel, it is even more accessible for everyone.
Beautiful venue and loaded with history
This is my first time to the ballet and it was truly magical! The entire performance was truly superb! All the dancing looked effortless and graceful! The theater was so beautiful and all the props and backdrops truly colorful and amazing. FANTASTIC!
