Very nice remodeling but the garbage outside next to the red bikes is always full and the homeless tear it apart throwing it around!I watched as maintenance came by in their cart, never touching or emptying the garbage can!See pictures as I followed him drive around doing nothing! He drove up to the garbage looked at it and drove off!! Thats the way to earn your retirement but I have found all these state employees are in it for the money only! No pride in their jobs!Only wish people would look at how hard your grandparents worked! NO ELECTRONICS WERE NEEDED!
This is one of my kids favorite place to go. It is a historic house that turn into a kids museum. It has 3 houses and it’s pretty cool because there were different things that your kids can do like pretend bakery shop, hardware store, fruit store, they can be a animals vet, a doctor and so much more to see. They have big playground with big slides. I highly recommend this place because your kids will love it and it will benefits for a parents too. If your kids have so much energy that place will tired them up.
This place is awesome for any age! My 2 yr old and 11 yr old had a great time exploring and playing outside. Its also right next to the waterfront park so its nice to go do an activity with the kids and then go for a walk. The staff is very friendly and helpful with any questions. I also found out you can have birthday parties here!
Pleasant childrens museum located in the beautiful old homes. The indoor displays are simpler than the ones in other newer childrens museums, making them interesting for about second grade and younger (my preschool niece lived there whole thing!). My middle school aged daughters really enjoyed the motion sensing dance room (see pic).We were there on a rainy day, so we couldnt enjoy the outside playground. All the of our kids would have enjoyed this! There are also nice picnic areas outside. You can bring your own picnic food with you (no restaurant or snack bar on site).
It is difficult to find one place which is good for indoor kids and outdoor kids but this is the one. There is tons of indoor and outdoor activities, wide range of ages children will love this. But it could be dangerous since many kids are really exited to play around, they would never care about the tiny kids around them. Since my was approx 2years old, i was not happy with that sometimes. That is only my complain about this location, I can understand that point and parents had to look their children otherwise something dangerous could happen. All of Staffs were great, helpful. There is one parking right in front of this place and another large one parking spot were there seems it is free during weekend. Total 60s car capacity which is many enough for this park. What I really like is that they are trying to keep toys to clean. There is box right next to the playing area and you can throw toys if you think that is dirty. There is party room offered only 2 hours and that looks nice too
Our girls ages 12, 9, and 6, love the outdoor climbing maze with its slides. Indoors we love the silhouette room and doctor and vet rooms where we can view x-ray pictures. Our three year old loves the farm room milking the cow and guiding the submarine. We took our friends there and had an outdoor lunch under the covered area. All their boys and all our girls had a blast!
My kids absolutely love this place and didnt want to leave for lunch. It was large enough space so I could go with them in the giant play structure and slides too.
Not a bad theater, however beware that your regal card deals have changed, the free movie comes with a 1.50 charge, and free drink points only give you a 0.50 cents off. Times are changing but its still a good place
It was closed but looked really cute.
We love this place. Both houses have a variety of options. I love the new STEM activities in the studio. So many possibilities! Outside is a childs dream. From large play structures, to slides, to a sand area to dig for dinosaur bones. So much to explore inside and out. Great for any weather.
Awesome kids museum full of educational exhibits and play areas inside and out. Plan a full day or at least a couple of hours to take it all in.
We have been coming here for 7 years and they constantly keep on working on things getting them cleaned up, coming up with new displays. Our kids really enjoy this place and it is wheelchair accessible in case you have a grandparent that wants to come watch your child play outside. We highly recommend the family membership it also works for other places around oregon as well
Fun place to visit! Here are a few photos without kids.
Cool enough buildings. Fun Yard! The young man who did our Tour did beyond poorly, room names... neat!life and its living. Enjoy yours!
My boys had a blast. We even enjoyed a lot of the exhibits.
My kids had a blast here, so glad we decided to make the trip into Salem. Will be going back soon.
Took our boys (4 and 8) here for a visit and they had a great time. There was a lot of variety in the types of activities and hands on experiences the boys could do. The park outside was amazing and we should have gone out sooner to play on the playground.
The Gilbert House Museum is beautiful and very well maintained. Each room has a different theme with extensive activities and creative props. Large wooden outdoor play structure with slides and eating areas are available between buildings. Entrance fee for kids is reasonable, but know that you will be paying an entrance fee for all supervising adults too. Family and yearly passes are easily worth the investment. Ive brought my kids here for several years and it seems that it is most engaging up to about age 10.
Awesome learning experience; fun activities, and a great place to take your kids/grandkids!!!!
Amazing. Not much for parents to do, but if you like old architecture, you will love looking at the amazing historical houses here. There is a ton for kids to do and enough big kid things for parents and older siblings to participate in. You can build using g large clocks, pretend play various occupations, and the outdoor playground is spectacular. Way more worth the time and money than the one in Portland.
While personally Ive never been here, my husband, mother, and kids have all gone and said its amazing! Ive gotten to hear the stories, see the pictures and get the experience that they all did while they went!
My kiddos received a ton of stimulation with the different activities. There is outdoor and indoor play. Very educational and fun!
Good museum overall for kids up to 8 year old and a blast if your kid is good at pretend play. I wonder why it looks some of the play structures have been taken down and replaced with nothing. Id love to see more slides or interactive structures. I liked the big long slide. Nice layout. Price is right for the amenities.
This is a great childrens museum! The rooms dont change a lot, but theyre a lot of fun! The playground outside is fantastic and big enough for adults to play too! The bummer with a museum on an old estate is that you really feel it if its busy since theres only one way in and out of rooms into narrow hallways. Still, a great childrens museum for exploring little minds!
First time going with my 2 kids. $8 a person including adults without membership. It was fun my kids liked it and they are 10 and 3. The sand pit was my youngest sons favorite part. My oldest loved the big slides and maze like structure.
Great place to take your little kids to play. Lots of rooms to explore and plenty to do to keep your kiddos busy! Fun to meet a friend for a play date here. My daughter loves the kitchen, atm/money, and tools area the best! Using your library pass for a visit is an added bonus!
Great family fun.
My 4 and 2 year olds love the Gilbert house! Whether you live in Salem or are visiting from Portland this is a must see. We have an annual membership and the kids never get tired of the new exhibits! The outdoor play area is also outstanding for summer picnics!
This was our first time visiting Salem and our four and six-year-old boys loved this museum. Great place for kids to explore, play, and learn. There are 3 separate houses with different themed rooms. We liked the outdoor play area the most.
Magical place. Toddler loved playing in each room. Could have stayed for hours and hours. Outdoor area is so much fun.
We always love our visits here. I let my daughter lead the way, spending as much time as she likes in each exhibit. It is so nice to be able to play outside or inside. She loves the tunnels and climbing available on the outdoor playground.
Great place for kiddos. Lots of stairs, activities for kids, imagination expansion, fun. Had a couple places to make arts and crafts. Fun outside area. Wish they had a restaurant or small cafe included on property.
Theres not much I can say that probably hasnt already been said a million times. Just bring your kids here, as often as you can. Also, buy the $100 yearly membership and it gives you free access to other places like OMSI and Gilbert House all over the US. Love this place.
The Gilbert House is a wonderful place! They do a nice job of changing the rooms to keep things fresh and interesting. I enjoy it as much as my children do! Great for all ages. Even my teenagers enjoy messing around in the exhibits when we bring their smaller cousins to explore.
This is a great place for the kindergarten and under set. Its enormous with tons of play areas. My 6 and 9 year olds were not so interested - they enjoyed the outdoor area, engineering workshop (ESPECIALLY the workshop), and dancing area. The others they kind of just walked through without stopping. Helpful employees.
The Gilbert house is amazing. My kids always have a blast. The staff are incredible. And they always come out with new activities. The membership is definitely worth the up front cost.
This place is so great for the kids. There are many different exhibits for them to get hands on experience with. The outside play area is great for them to run around and get their energy out! Plan on spending a few hours there, the kids wont want to leave!Update: we went again yesterday and of course the kids had a blast. I like that they change up some of the exhibits. They now have a green screen for kids to try their hand at being on TV. We also discovered the engineer studio and the kids made hands on projects. The recycled art was a huge hit! Thank you!!
This was a great thing to do with kids.
My niece, her 5 year old and I all had fun on the outdoor play area (evening thought it was a bit wet) and all of the many fun and educational rooms in the houses. We especially liked the screen that continually changed and made all movements change. We visited for a short time because it was closing soon. Walking among the toy displays was entertaining and interesting. The children enjoyed the play areas and visiting the toy areas as well. -
Nice place for children. In the same parking general area as the waterfront park. Easily accessible and friendly people. You do have to pay to park in the lot next to them however if you want to avoid this simply park in the main parks lot and walk over. It isnt very far. The Gilbert house is always doing upkeep on their structures and it is kept clean and virtually debris free. Safe place to take kids and it always has activities to keep the attention span of young children
Outside is good but indoor not that much clean
This place is amazing, as a kid I loved to go here, and now I take my daughter, and have a membership, even though we live in Portland Oregon now, and not as close as we used to.
Thanks for inviting me gilbert
Tons of fun and activities for our 18 month old! The out door play structure was big enough that I could chase her around on it!
Pay for parking! Its easy to miss the sign that tells you that parking is not free. One, because you have a bunch of excited kids with you and your busy making sure they dont run out into the parking lot. Two, because its they only parking lot for the place so you would assume they wouldnt charge you to park there. Tickets, that youll find on your windshield when you come out, are $25. There were many cars with tickets which leads me to believe its easy to miss the sign. --- Otherwise the place was awesome and they kids had a wonderful time. So many fun activities.
Awesome place but the pricing needs to be modified during bad weather and for little kids under 2 years old.Half of the facility is an awesome outdoor play area that isnt any fun when it is raining or when your kid is too small to use it. I think prices should be reduced for kids under two and on rainy days.
Great place for kids too chill. We got free entry because we had membership at kids quest. The outside areas is very cool where my kids had enough running around to tire them out. Inside place is pretty cozy work an activity area. Overall - quite well done
Very kid and grandma friendly! Lots to do, we spent hours there
This is a great place to take your kids or grandchildren, or even just kids you know. The yearly membership may seem costly but well worth it. Not only do you have unlimited admission there but also access to many other childrens museums not only in Oregon but across the country.
Good place to take your kids to let them explore and mess up some house other than your own. Favorite rooms include the air current room and the green screen room. Outdoor playground is a true bonus, giving kids a place to run around and wear out. I wouldnt cal this a destination attraction, like OMSI. But if you live in the area, it is definitely worth the price.
Wow! Lots and lots of stuff to do and see. Toddler to tots to ten, things in side and outside for every age.Impressive work on the elaborate outside wooden and metal play structures. Large enough for adults to follow your child around in, or just let them run in and get lost.Clean and well maintained themed descovery rooms, AND science workshops just waiting for kids (and parents) to enter and build together. If you have a youngster, plan on spending at least 4 to 5 hours here. Lots of fun and learning to be had.
Great place to take the kiddos to have some fun and expand their creativity. The outdoor play area is definately a highlight.
Lots of interesting things to do and our kids really enjoyed it. Highly recommend!
I really love this place as a kid there is a lot of interesting things that you can do as a kid theres even a 8-foot giant rocking chair in the front of theand theres a giant erector set that has a slide that you can slide from the erector set I take all my friends from outside the state to this museum that have kids
This place is amazing and so much fun for kids if all ages!
The Gilbert House is definitely a favorite destination for our family. Our kids could play there all day. Inside there are many unique rooms, each with a theme that encourages play and imagination. Outside there is a big sand area and play structure with many places to explore.
I really enjoyed bringing my kids here. I hadnt been since I was a child myself, and it was a lot of fun to see the changes and additions, as well as what remained the same. The outdoor area was especially enjoyable, and I appreciated the shady areas with ample seating for parents. The kids loved the wooden tower, slides, climbing rocks, and digging in the sand pit.
We really enjoyed it. It was our first time and next time we will have more fun. You want to bring your own snacks there ia so much to do your tiny will need a break
Very fun place for younger kids to go. Typically best for kids under 10. Though it can be a little pricey if youre on a budget. There are also plenty of areas that children under 5 would enjoy.
This is another one of our go-to spots for family fun in Salem. There are a lot of different activities for the children, a really great sandbox, and a fantastic wood structure with different levels, lots of stairs, and slides. Fun for everyone, and a lot of opportunities for learning.
Love taking my kids here. They could play all day long! Just wish the houses had A/C they get unbearably hot. The play structure is just as fun as I remember growing up!
The best outdoor play structure I’ve ever seen! Maze like structure with big slides. Indoor children’s attractions are very fun and imaginative too. This place is one of Salem’s gems for any parents or grandparents.
There are four main buildings, each with its own interactive media. There is also an awesomely large playground here with sandpits and slides. Kids are going to love it here.
I Love so many things here. My 5yr old Daughter Loves to go all the time. Its a fantastic place to take your kids to learn & explore
Fun and secure place to take smaller children. It is well located next to the Waterfront Park. The Museum offers a range of activities but on sunny days the play structure is a blast for kids! There are also fun indoor activities. The place would benefit from offering a small cafe or coffee shop for parents to enjoy a beverage while their kids play.
The Gilbert house is a great place to take your kids, rain or shine. There are so many fun rooms to explore and activities to do. The outdoor playground is absolutely amazing, too.
Its the best place to take your kids to have fun and learn
Outdoor area is great. Indoor area is difficult to navigate around and keep track of ones child. Not worth the money overall.
The most amazing place in Salem for kids! Our daughter also attended preschool here and it was the best experience for her that we could have asked for. We LOVE the Gilbert House!
Visited with the children of my cousin. They seemed to enjoy it. It had a lot of interesting activities for kids.
As you walk into the door the fun and learning begin, I have been taking my grandkids here for some time now. The best learning and fun envorment for kids in Salem. Learn how things work, were discovered and have fun doing it. Kids had fun, enjoyed the playground the best. Not really suited for 12+ but the younger kiddos in my group enjoyed the exhibits especially the hoop/ video psychedelic room. My son was really disappointed the big train room was gone. Really hope they bring back the bubble room.
Family friendly. Inclusive playground.Attended a community event, free admission... very crowded. But volunteers were everywhere. Attentive and helpful.
With a stop with children! This broke up our long road trip. Fun exhibits for kids and adults. Awesome outdoor Erector set playground. We ran around and slid down the crazy slides.Afterwards, walk over and ride the antique carousel by riverfront Park. Beautiful
3 to 4 different experiences were broken without notices of them being out of order. Had to speak to staff 2 to 3 times to see if they could get an experience working and the response was less than enthusiastic or encouraging that they would be fixed anytime soon.
Took granddaughter here. Very fun for her. Lots of things to do for little ones. Great and caring customer service!
An interactive childrens museum for all ages. Best feature for getting your little kiddos energy well spent is the outdoor playground. Yes there is sand. Yes, there are climbing poles. Yes there is a super tall slide that takes mini flights of walking but produces many squeals of delight. Pack your kids favorite snacks and plan to spend at least a couple of hours exploring the different rooms which showcase a variety of themes (agriculture, airplanes, trains, veterinary care, etc.) with tactile objects for young ones to explore.
Took our 3 little ones today, ages 1, 4 & 9 and they all had a blast. So much fun and a great family experience. We loved it and will definitely be back!
Great place for kids. Lots to do. Annual pass is really affordable. Indoor and outdoor options.
We are huge fans of the Gilbert House!! It is a wonderful, magical place to take your kids that lets them play and imagine and learn and be a kid. The staff are always so friendly and kind. Plus they are always doing different events and changing things up to keep things interesting. If you are thinking about visiting - just do it!
Its such a great place to take my son to he is only 2 years old and ive been taking him there since he was 6 months old and he has been enjoying it since then. There is enough to do for all ages and he loves it!!
Great place to take the kids.My daughters and son love this place
My kids had a great time, and there was a lot to do. Their favorite by far was the outdoor playground.
This place is so fun! They incorporate a lot of learning through play too which is great. My kids love it and now we are looking at being regulars.
I had my kids birthday party here. Its a great place for them to play and burn off some energy. They had tons of fun and were exhausted at the end of the day.
A great place to visit any time of year. There are plenty of activities to keep kids entertained, including pre-teens. The place os also well-maintained with plenty of parking close by.
Very cool, engaging and educational childrens museum. There is an outdoor play structure as well. Many things to look and and experience hands on.
Love this place. We get the annual pass. Sometimes we run through the whole house and other times we just hang out in the play area outside. I have a 4, 7, and 11 year old. All love it for different reasons.
This place is great for kids of all ages. Many different types of fun, interactive and educational activities indoors and outside. Every time you go there is something different to do. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
It was interesting enough once. Im not sure I will be taking our kids again. The exhibits were small, and several rooms were pretty much empty. We only spent maybe 2 hours here and all 3 of our kids had been there long enough. They did love the giant play structure. However for the entry price to get in I can take my kids to a nice park and have pretty much the same experience for free. For me, it wont be worth the drive down from Portland to go again. We actually spent more time at the carousel in the park next to the Gilbert house than we spent at that house.
Fun place for families to take the little ones to explore and have fun
Awesome place for kids and adults alike. Comprised of multiple historic houses with every room turned into a fun activity/themed place to play and learn. Outside theres one of the best jungle gyms I think Ive ever seen outside of a major theme park. Feels like a small fantasy neighborhood, ala seasame street, come to life.Something for everyone!
Great place to take the kids. Relatively cheap to get in and has lots of stuff to do and a really nice Play Place.
Great place to hang out with the kiddos. Lots of activities and the fun never stopped!
We got tickets for Christmas and finally got to use them. My son is 2.5 and had a blast taking in all the exhibits. There is a good variety of activities that challenge a little one. The vertical wind tunnel was a big highlight, as well as the Lego ship building. We will definitely return.
I suppose it is fun for children to run around and play in the few rooms that they have available, but it seems like it would be difficult to keep everything disinfected with all of the children touching everything, especially the stuffed toys. Not taking my grand children there AND its spendy!!
This place is awesome for kids! Science and innovation museum.
Over priced for a kids learning center/playhouse. They charge 8$ for every head where as even Portland childrens museum doesnt charge parents. I guess Im dumbfounded on why a parent would have to pay when obviously there is no way for a child to go on their own... Other then that has fun activities and a large play structure that my kids enjoy.
