The garden is beautiful. We went to the Tea & Tour presentation. Our host was very informative, polite, funny & engaging. She was very knowledgeable & had some funny personal stories about herself & the architect. I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent here. It was a peaceful & informative afternoon.
Beautiful place, I went with a few friends for the Tea Ceremony, which I have never seen before and it was very interesting and the tea was delicious. The house is beautiful, so simple. You can walk around the mini garden and its a nice experience too. Bring cash for the entrance and for a souvenir, they dont accept cards.
Excellent. I dont have words for how wonderful and authentic this is.
Its a little slice of Japan in the city of Saginaw. The place feels incredibly secluded for its location and it is well worth a stop to see the garden and the tea ceremonies. Very well kept and gorgeous to boot. A highly recommended place to see for locals and tourists alike.
My wife and I enjoyed visiting this place. They have a garden with a decent sized walkway through it. Very well taken care of. And for just 5 dollars you get to have tea snacks and a bit of a history lesson. Check back on their website for future events
My husband & I visited the center & attended the Tea Ceremony. It was very calming & pleasant. The tea ceremony was interesting & informative. I was disappointed that the garden path was not more handicap accessible. It was difficult to move a wheelchair over in the cracks and potholes. The gardens were beautiful but I missed seeing or hearing running water with bamboo that made a pleasant knocking sound like when I visited Japan. It was for the most part a delightful peek into the Japanese culture.
Wasn’t open?? It’s 1:48 on a Wednesday?? Weird. Looked cool from the outside
Beautiful place. Good experience. Be sure to make reservations for the tea ceremony.
Educational, pleasant, clean, organized, friendly.
My partner and I are very into Japanese culture, and decided this would be a nice stop for something to do on our way through Saginaw. We did almost miss it! Google Maps marks the location as where the walking entrance in - the driveway is actually on S. Washington Ave, before you turn onto Ezra Rust Rd! There is a tiny sign that says Japanese Gardens Parking so dont miss it!The gardens themselves were a little underwhelming. You must keep to the path, but unfortunately there is very little path to walk on. I wish we could have gone closer to the lake or around more scenery but we didnt want to break the rules. The $5 tea house tour is absolutely adorable and worth it. We were greeted by the sweetest and funniest Japanese woman who was more than willing to tell us the history of the tea house, the importance of the way it was build, and a general knowledge on traditional tea ceremonies, (since we were not there on a designated tea ceremony day) She was worth the trip 100%, I loved her. She made us the best cup of green tea Ive ever had, and two traditional Japanese sweets - an adzuki bean agar jelly and a soft, sweet cookie. After your tour, youre given complimentary postcards and origami. Very cute!
Absolutely beautiful place. Was here for a wedding and I think it turned out really nice. Plenty of great views near the river and Ojibway island and inside the center itself.
The Japanese ladies had already left for the day due to prior commitments, but Scott did really well in explaining about the Center and the different tea ceremonies. Was nice to talk with a kindred spirit with certain topics. The garden itself is a short walk but is very nice. There are a few things that could be spruced up (the first sign you see looks a bit worse for wear), but a nice stop if you want to find out a bit about the Japanese culture. While you can stop in for a treat and the explanation of the tea ceremonies any day, they only hold the full tea ceremony the 2nd Saturday of the month, unless you RSVP with a group of 10 or more. Then theyll work with scheduling anytime theyre normally open.
There is nothing here but a few cherry blossom trees and some fake looking statues... this place is supposed to be a sister facility to another Cultural Center thats in Japan. For something thats got history and importance like that its a pretty sad location... I guess the thing that attracts most people to this area is there is a Teahouse located on the property I dont know if its still in operation when we were there it was not
They are making big improvements inside the Teahouse and in the garden. Nice to see.
They do an amazing job demonstrating. Theyre very friendly and have a lot of knowledge about Japanese culture and how theyve made a beneficial impact in Saginaw. We went to the tea ceremony, it was really good.
They had a festival and I came too late for the tea ceremony so Ill definitely come back to try that out.
Beautiful, peaceful, and a must to experience. A unique treasure hidden away in the heart of Saginaw. From the Blooming Cherry Blossoms to the artisan architecture every aspect is beautifully and thoughtfully done.
All new experience for me. Loved the chance to learn about Japanese culture. Thank you for sharing.
The tea garden is naturally beautiful oasis. Perfect for a few hours to get away and clear your mind.
Ive always dreamed of visiting Japan, but due to finances and fear of flying- it will never be-- but the Japanese Culture Festival was very close !Taiko/Kodo Drums, Martial arts, Traditional dance and music troupes, even traditional tea ceremony.... and stalls with Ikebana, Calligraphy, and other activities. Definitely going again next year!
The gardens are beautiful in the springtime, and the Japanese that go there regularly and fun to chat with. They also hold weddings and festivals often with food, dance, and toys.
Went to the tea ceremony with my family. It was amazing finding out the history of the location & their many traditions!
Peaceful. Beautiful. Love the tea ceremony. I come every year for Japan Day.
Cute place! Gardens, authentic tea house, and occasional cultural events make for a unique and special place in Saginaw. Be sure to attend a tea ceremony if you can, theyre fantastic and the decor inside the house changes monthly so itll always be a fresh experience if you return.
Excellent chance to experience the Japanese culture. The tea ceremony is very interesting and educational. Definitely worth a visit!
Excellent place to visit. Small enough to take smaller children to, but large enough to feel separate from the surroundings. A must visit during the spring season, as well as in the fall. Free admission, but unusual hours, so just be sure to check before you go to visit.
Beautiful gardens. Informative and delicious tea service.
My daughter and I loved it. It is so beautiful here.
I went here as a child while i was in school and loved it. The tea ceremony was superb and they were very welcoming. I look forward to returning.
Very beautiful place to visit during the cherry blossom bloom
So beautiful, would love to have plant identifying plaques. But overall it was a great barrier free.
I like the store cause they are cool people
Beautiful, unique building and wonderful place to learn something about Japanese culture with a traditional tea ceremony by a beautiful lady, Yoko Mossner, the founder.
Such a well kept facility peaceful surrounding

I went there 6 years ago and there is a lot that can be done to make this garden great.i did enjoy my visit but i hope that they expand it.
A lovely spot to visit.
Great hospitality.
Authentic Japanese exprience. Beautiful and peaceful
There wasnt that much to do it was just a pull up walk for five minutes and leave
Nice place
Badly decayed, some new construction, but older things are ignored or not maintained. Its a nice garden, but not up to Japanese standards.
Beautiful place to visit
