The place is a bit run down but with the proper convention you are completely blinded by it. I went here because of a robotics competition and I must say it was an amazing experience. It is quite large and yet isnt that hard to get lost in!
Wow awesome venue! Just randomly drove by and decided to see a Buckcherry concert. We arent even metal fans, but the sound quality was amazing! The music was very lound but the quality felt deep inside and wasnt painful on the ears like you might expect at a loud metal concert.Awesome building and great concert. We just randomly made it a part of our journey sailing Dragons Lair from Florida to Wisconsin!
An older building with a medieval exterior and an early American interior. The feel and the smell is great. My only complaint is only the one section was being heated. So if you left the main area, or went to the bathroom you froze! Of course I guess with the size of the place you cant really blame them! Id hate to get that bill!!
And old facility but it gets the job done. Good atmosphere of people. Would recommend if youre looking for a fun time with friends
Beware when attending summer shows. There is no air conditioning in this place. The acoustics are so-so when sitting up in the balcony. But there is a balcony so thats a plus.Imagine a giant gymnasium with a stage and an upper level balcony. Thats what this place looks like inside.I like it because it never feels crowded. You have the option to stand back and watch or get in the thick of it closer to the stage.Beverage lines are insanely long. A twenty minute wait at least.Would give more stars if the beverage lines moved, there was AC and acoustics on balcony were better.
Fights were fun. Wish there was a large screen to watch the events on. It is hard to see. Also this place is getting run down a bit. Food was fast and good also the drinks were flowing good.
My experience at the Rochester armory was a wonderful one I would have an event there my family was there for family kids fun day. an it was what all events should be like fun.fun.fun
Not friendly for handicapped people. There is no ramps, elevators, or parking. Also no floor seats, only in the balcony area, up 3 flights of stairs which a person who is handicap couldnt get too. The building is pretty for being 105 yrs old.
This is a nice little venue. Doesnt offer much when it comes to seating for a robotics competition. Concessions were good enough. The building has a neat aesthetic and older feel.
Came here to see Circa Survive, Thrice, Chon, and Balance and Composure and I must say, WHAT AN AMAZING SHOW!!! Drinks were great and not too expensive (Long Island Iced Tea was $10). Bathrooms were a bit weird for my liking (the stalls and doors were made of wood that might have been taken from a church and had weird side peepholes). The Armory hosts volleyball tournaments so youll see court markings on the floor but overall its a great space to see bands.
Nice big old space. Restrooms while not dirty could use a little help including hot water not just cold to wash hands.
Went to the Old Dominion concert last fall and going to Lee Brice this October. There are no seats, its a standing venue but if you get there early enough you can get as close as you want to the stage. I just had general admission tickets and was front row! Best $40 bucks Ive spent! If you dont mind standing, highly recommend going to concerts here.
Once upon a time this place was wasted and wasting away. Like a black hole right on Main St. And with the city always trying to draw investors and builders to ramp up what looked for all the world like a dump. Magnificent restoration to very high standards! Which the staff at every event Ive attended there has also exhibited; very high standards, indeed. Great shows brought me here, but what grabbed my attention was the wide variety of activities. The main hall is awesome and actually has pretty damn good acoustics, and there are business meeting rooms, great fun stuff along with things and events I never would have imagined. Creative thinking. Always admired the castle - like appearance of this place. So glad it got cleaned up and put to use. Great stuff!
Seen many shows here. Always go home with a great experience and tons of memories. Owner is super nice and helpful everytime I call with questions about concerts. Downfall... Lines for beverages and food are always way too long and the venue could use better climate control; its always very hot.
Pretty cool place, excision was amazing. took a star off for removing the water bottle tops. Not cool.
Awesome concert venue! Awesome staff, especially Larry and his team In the kitchen and concession area
Terrific venue for concerts. The sound is stellar and its a big place. However....the parking situation here sucks!!! If you dont get there early, you struggle to find places to park
Extremely hot inside during summer months. Ac works in one small area. 4 large fans on site but not working or couldnt reach power. Many people over heated as a result. Never had this problem in the winter months.
Been to the Armory 20 times for concerts. Tonight it was very disorganized. 40 min in Line to get 4 waters. Everybody was mad. I have been there when it was twice as busy and rhe line flew 4 times as fast. Two bar stations. No food. Not your best night guys.
Cool old building. Limited parking. If you visit in the winter, bring a coat. Bathrooms are like a meat locker.
Came here for REXPO and it was a very nice venue. Very spacious and open However I noticed there were no wheelchair accessible entrances at the only entrance to this event which was difficult for anyone in a wheelchair or with strollers.
Whether venue acoustics related or just the rig they bring in every time, it rarely sounds good. Dingy interior with little effort put to making it look nice, especially when they hang advertisement banners all over the place. Trouble with them being the only game in town for bigger shows though.
Oh my Godsmack what a show. The venue is old school..literally. The ceiling is wood providing great acoustics. Down side is ventilation. Hotter than sin in that place. But we had a great time. Needs more fans or something
July 23, 2019 was the first time I had been to The Armory. All of my friends who had been there, with the exception of one, had said The Armory was not a good venue. However, my girlfriend has been wanting to see Five Finger Death Punch, so we went there for the show a few days ago.Ive been to many intimate venues and, with the exception of the Showplace Theater in Buffalo, this was the worst of them. I spoke with two representatives on the phone. The first person I spoke with was quite friendly and helpful. The second one I spoke with was very short with me when I asked about the parking. No one seemed to have any idea about where to park. The web site says there is parking across the street. However, that parking lot opens about 30-60 minutes before the doors open. When I got to the venue, two hours before doors, there were already at least 30-40 people waiting in line. Had I gotten there in time for the parking, we would have had to stand in the back of the venue. There was street parking a good distance away and luckily my car was not broken into. So, yeah, the parking situation is atrocious.Regarding the sound, both the sound system and the acoustics were subpar. For Fire From the Gods, while they were really good, the vocalists mic was up a bit much along with the bassist amp being too high. For In This Moment, you could not hear Maria Brink unless she was screaming or the instruments werent playing. Even Five Finger Death Punch, who always put on a great show and did so this time, didnt have quite the sound quality they typically do.While we did have a decent time, I will never be going back to this venue. Unless a band comes to Buffalo or to The Montage in Rochester, Id rather make the 2-3 hour drive to see a band in Toronto or Cleveland.
Seen excision here couple weeks back... Mad fun.
I mean, it’s okay to attend a concert to or host a competition, however i have a major problem with the venue and especially the bathrooms. The bathroom’s doors have a symbol on it, and the lock mechanism does not lock proper. The symbol makes people able to see through the door which is really embarrassing. The second thing is the venue. I was there for a robotics competition and the venue was not so good as i thought it was. Food was expensive, and the quality was overall a 2.5 out of Five.It could use some renovations (but again, it’s an old castle or something so it would be hard to do.)
Cramped space for 6 volleyball courts, however they work things out the best they can. Most people complain due to lack of heat.
Nice to have the swap meet. Not so good for concerts.
This place was great for god smack concert.
Cool but tiny venue.... Perfect for Rexpo
Well well worth the trip, I was surprised and shocked. Artists did phenomenal job. Will be back this year!
Hot. SO. HOT. Line to get in was also crazy... I attend concerts all the time, all over the east coast...this venue has probably been one of my least favorite. I also had to backtrack when I attempted to show my digital ticket- they have to manually enter them before you can go through...after standing in line for over an hour and missing the opening act that was really irritating.
Always love going to the reptile expo every year! Amazing deals and beautiful animals!
I didnt get to see lil Wes or lil perco today
Go there every year for the All Wheels swapmeet cool venue .
Im not going to say do not go to this venue. However, definitely avoid it if there is other options available.
Very nice but kinda small for the event
Saw the band Five Finger Death Punch at this venue. It looks very cool on the outside, and offers alot of space inside. Parking is not adequate though, and fills up fast.
It was super hot inside and the lines for the bar were really long. Overall it was a good venue to see a band.
Not enough employees for the exicion concert, thank God they were soooo sick
This is a fairly large event space with friendly staff. I enjoyed my time here!
I counted 6 industrial size fans. One was working. It was so hot my daughter had to leave. She was dizzy and sweating like a mule. $4 waters are excessive. The sound quality of this venue always disappoints. The one good thing about this place is that great national acts come here.
It is a cold venue. We go every year for the reptile expo. It would have 5 stars if they had a way to clean up the extension cords. They were just under carpets and it as a bit of a tripping hazard. Other than that it is great.
I was drugged by bartender thereI would never go back to this place, we had a couple drinks after waiting in line for a long while. we went sat in the balcony area, I remember the first 2 songs of five finger and then the next thing I remember is waking up in the emergency room at 4:30 in the morning, they said I got separated from my wife (who has breast cancer and this was suppose to be our last hurrah before treatments) and then when leaving show(which I dont remember any of this) we get separated and I passed out, so now she`s freaking out because she couldnt find me, her phone is in our vehicle and I have the keys, cops where useless, after some test when I woke up they found traces of drugs that I dont take in my system that made me sleep for a long time..the only place where some one could have put something in my drink is the bartenders.. for when ever I get any draft cup drink I always carry it by the top so my hand covers the opening..if it wasnt for my wifes condition I would look into legal action....so to every one that goes there enjoy your self but be cautious if your drinking..i still dont remember a thing from about 10:00pm - 4:30am and i missed a concert that i really wanted to see
Dingy, rough, intimate...a great place to see a show if you arent concerned with glitz and glamour in a venue.
Went here for a robotics competition. Food options at location are somewhat limited, but there are multiple nearby restaurants. The bathrooms are slightly run down, many of the stalls have... subpar locks. But every event Ive been to that was hosted here has been a lot of fun.
I’m not sure how anyone can say this is a premier place for a volleyball tournament. The lightning is terrible, sight lines to see the games are awful. The worst part is there is no heat in the building so you freeze.
We went to the Rexpo at the armory and it was amazing! So many different types and styles of reptiles. This was our first time going and I can definitely say well be back for the April 2020 Rexpo. It is definitely worth going to if youre in the market for a new pet or if you need supplies like feeders. Much cheaper than buying at the big chain stores. I bought enough fuzzies to last until the next Rexpo.
Was great to see Godsmack. Had an awesome time.
A very dated venue. They have a pretty good selection of shows that come into town, but the sound quality is absolutely terrible. Dont waste your money by coming here.
Ive been to several different types of events at the armory over the years. The staff and security are always efficient and attentive. The concessions are very reasonable and the facilities are always clean. Also, traffic and parking in the area is always well managed.
Not a bad venue but some bands can get too loud, and the acoustics dont do the bands any favors. Would love if the place had one of those vending machines that has ear plugs in them in case you leave yours on the kitchen counter after washing them and forget to bring them. Huh.
Great location for the events they host. Parking is lacking especially if the RBTL has an event at the same time.
Really awesome great job guys really scary
Venue is nice and good, but the room itself is horrible sounding for a concert. I pitty the sound engineers that have to mix this room, they have an up hill battle
Sully had a terse review of the room but hey- what do you expect from a building that was an actual World War armory? Its the perfect atmosphere for high energy entertainment....
This place is run terribly there was no toilet paper or paper towels no soap and also charge 4 dollars for water and 3 dollars for a cup of tap water they also take your water bottle caps for some reason and the lines were terrible almost and hour wait in the cold to get in and almost 40 mins just to get a drink or use the bathroom good riddance
Great local venue, great sound, lots of space.
Great time. Bands sounded good. Would definitely like a better beer selection, but not sure if thats a venue or event thing.
In This Moment seemed to steal the show. Five Finger Death Punch always a good time. BUT THE VENUE NEEDS A SMOKING SECTION! WTF? CAN SMOKE EVEN DURING INTERMISSION!!!
Cool building and fantastic people. Fun for volleyball. I lost my phone there, but the bartender held onto it for 2 weeks until I came back for it!!
Saw In This Moment there, awesome place had a great time and work my way up front
Very unique venue, security was a little over the top in some situations but other than that it was nice.
Good for cheaper Concerts. The acoustics are lacking is all. No Coat Check so be aware. Mixed drinks are good if you tip well.
Its a pretty decent venue and often has a lot of good bands come. The floor is just straight cement tho, so definitely wear comfortable shoes if you go. The lines usually go quickly but wrap around the building pretty far if you arent early. Also, pregame before you come, the drinks are expensive.
The sound from the bands sounds great! But need more places to sit
I have only been here twice. Once for a former presidents visit and recently for the reptile expo. Its basally a big room with a concrete floor... didnt notice the bathrooms, but did aplreciate free parking across the street for the event.
GODSMACK rrrROCKED THE HOUSE!!! SO MUCH BETTER VENUE THEN SHEAS IN BUFFALO ( SOUND WISE)WORTH THE TRIP TO ROCHESTER!! WILL GO HERE AGAIN!
Just old great history though
Their haunted house (Castle of Horrors) was amazing. When I walked into the first room, I started to panic a little and one of the actors broke out of character, held my hand, and told me it was going to be okay and that it was all just fake. He let me know what was coming up next and reassured me that I’d be fine. It was pretty long and scary. They do sensory things like blowing air and water or dropping rice from the ceiling. Great experience, will be coming back next year.
The chairs are comfortable, but the roof has leaked in different spots over the years; causing construction. And when they turn the heat down, it gets cold !!!
Interesting venue. We were here for a concert. I feel like this would be a great event space.
Godsmack the best show ever love these guys you rock
They always have awesome beer here. Theres always pleanty of room. Its indoors so you dont have to worry about weather. Most shows in Rochester happen here. Finding parking can sometimes be difficult so if youre here for a concert, it be better to come early if your driving. Other than that this place is great to jam out and vibe to your favorite band.
It was great its needs ventilation or ac to dam hot
Awesome beer!! Food was delicious. Service was super. We were lucky enough to have an outside table and the view was incredible! Would definitely recommend.
Came here for a Tyler the Creator and Vince Staples concert and it was a lot of fun. Music was good, not much else for me to say about the venue as I didn’t get any food/drinks
Was convinced to go for a Haunted House.Out of my comfort zone. Never again. Not an adrenaline junkie !
Bathrooms are gross and all the stalls have holes that see into other stalls
Great venue for anything but experience depends on the event you attend.
Great space for a show but how are going to run out of room for me check my coat in and just blantely refuse to hold on to it, and also not let anyone go out and re enter?
Inside looks like a high school gym, however overall set-up for a music venue is solid. Had a great time on my first visit here for The Front Bottoms show.
Too Hot!! Put fans in there at Least. No air circulation. Poor sound quality.
Expensive cash only bar. Pricey atms.
Very good & exciting the experience was great!
Saw Halestorm+Stone Sour here, they were brilliant. The venue was functional, but their concessions feel like an afterthought. You can get a cheap beer, a Long island iced tea, or a sex on the beach. Thats it. I dont expect craft cocktails, but it feels like a token effort.
The building in itself was cool as I went here to see a concert however I was not pleased with how the venue handled certain things which truly put a damper on many parts of the expierance. Some of the polices were not told to us before entering the venue and the staff and security that was on duty that day were not very friendly. Still managed to have a good time for the most part but certainly would much rather visit a different venue for concerts down the line.
