The Harro East turns dreams into nightmares. They canceled our wedding reception three (3) days before the wedding. They refused to open for 25 people, stating they wouldn’t make any money. They told us we had to pick another date. They then stopped all communication. We requested a refund due to the breach of contract. They have not responded. Here is a direct quote from the email we received three days before the wedding (their typos, not mine).“At this point, you will need to pick a new wedding / party date with us. We can not open for 20 - 25 people. It will cost us way to much and God forbid if anyone gets sick, we will be highly fined, possibly lose our liquor license and also possibly sued. If you have been reading the articles and watching the news, this keeps happening everywhere. Also, my boss has put a lot of time and money into reopening the Harro East Ballroom, and we can mot afford the bad press and fines.”As you can see, this was not a shutdown. They refused to hold our reception. This was after they contacted us and told us we would have to reduce our guest list from 50 to 20. We were engaged for 18 months. If you’re reading this, I’m sure you know how important this day is for the entire family. We will always think of this experience on our wedding anniversary. Who would do this to someone? What kind of business turns dreams into nightmares? Harro East, that’s who.

Excellent venue, loved it in there, so spacious and quite elegant. I went to see a Frank Sinatras show and it was amazing.

Mary Kay is the MVP of all wedding things in Rochester. From our first meeting we knew we were in great hands. She was our go-to resource to recommend our vendors and kept us up to date on all the changing COVID rules. We didn’t have to worry about a single thing the day of. The ballroom was absolutely perfect for a socially distanced party! Everyone felt safe and still had a blast! Choosing Harro East was the best decision we could have made for our wedding!

HOLY COW! Inside of this place Is beautiful with lots of room and an upper section as well. Honestly I had no idea this place existed until my cousin just got married and it was a great venue. DOWNSIDE, very limited in the bathrooms so keep that in mind. oh and parking

After finding the ballroom, I love the architecture and I loved the food, and I loved the hospitality of the staff. Thank you for a lovely time.

The venue itself is absolutely beautiful inside. The restorations were well worth the time and effort for sure in this historic space. My only issue here is sound quality can be very challenging. Because of the hardwood floor and plaster walking there is a good amount of echo which can make it very tough to work with for people to hear clearly. For sound intensive events I would consider having a roll out carpeting for the floor to dampen the echo and clarify the sound a bit more. You could even build that into the stage base itself and have it roll out like a poll cover almost and then storage is a breeze. You could also just have it secured in the fly space and out of the way that way and lower it down to put into place for events that are sound intensive. It should be an automatic feed system though that can also re roll it automatically and be guided by people on the side and end of the covering. Im sure theres got to be something like this that could totally work out very well.

Horrible parking, mediocre food served. Good sized bathrooms but poor staffing and dated interior. Personally, there are better options for event space in the same price point. Stage in front should be removed, gives the appearance of a high school gym.

We had a great experience hosting our wedding at Harro East! A regal, elegant venue, and the food is top notch! The overall quality, from the initial meetings and food tasting to the actual event, never disappointed. The ample natural lighting made guest selfies as well as our own professional photos perfect and picturesque.

Beautiful venue and wonderful atmosphere make this place a wonderful spot to host balls, parties, anniversaries, etc. This ballroom is a spectacular venue to use for all you events

Amazing place for a wedding! The food and sound at this venue are totally perfect, and I can’t tell you how many people loved the look of the building itself. Great central location in downtown Rochester, and most of all Mary Kay is awesome. She will make sure everything goes according to plan and can respond back to you in minutes. This place is a total gem!

The AKOMA luncheon was fabulous! The food was out of this world! Chicken cooked to perfection and flavorful! The pasta and crab salad, absolutely DELICIOUS! Rigitoni, fantastic! Dessert, WOW!!! COFFEE, SMOOTH, just the way I like it. GREAT JOB HARRO EAST!!!

Went to a wedding here a few times as well as prom almost 15 years ago. The place has not changed a day in its lifespan. The weddings were beautiful however the place could use a face lift the walls are standard stark white and the place seems to have no character. There is a balcony overlooking which always seems to be dirty and falling apart. If you choose this place as a venue for activities expect the food to be good but expect to pay extra to spruce up the venue.

The only reason this place is receiving higher than one star is based solely on how gorgeous everything was set up for my sisters wedding. The staff was rude with absolutely no personality. My sister and her groom paid for an open bar 8-1230 and even paid extra for top shelf liquor. We had family members traveling from all over the states, Tennessee, Boston, Massena, Florida and even Australia. The reception started at 5 with cocktail hour at 530. Since many of our guests were out of town, they had limited options for what to do with the 45 minute intermission. Some chose to head over to Harro East. Upon arrival, the doors were unlocked and so they wanted to go in and use the bathroom and find their table. Marykate, the owner mandated that they leave the reception hall immediately as they were not welcomed in there. Family members asked if they could use the bathroom, and Marykate said they could use them and then leave immediately. Further into the night, they had cut my mother off from drinks at the bar (THE MOTHER OF THE BRIDE) whom only had a few drinks and was dancing a relative where the staff decided she had had enough as her behavior was not to be tolerated in their ballroom. They later cut my cousin off, as she was unaware my mother was cut off as was caught giving her a glass of wine. The bar tender also told one of my sisters GUESTS that the bar was closed because they were not making enough money which is funny considering my sister and her husband PAID FOR TOP SHELF LIQUOR OPEN BAR ALL NIGHT, yet guests were being rudely denied and lied to. They began turning on the lights TWENTY MINUTES before the reception was supposed to end, which was very insulting as my sister also paid over 3 grand for a band to come perform. The band was abruptly halted when the lights were being turned on. The staff began cleaning off tables and throwing things out without even asking if people were finished or wanted to keep anything on their table at 1215 when we had the ballroom until 1230. Furthermore, when I went up to speak to the manager( MARYKATE) about the bar closing early, I was rudely spoken to by both her bartender and herself. She laughed at me, reitterated that she was the owner and that i was done and the bar was closed mind you, I was not asking for a drink but clarification for why the bar was closed to early. She told me my family members we inebriated which was false. The ballroom itself was absolutely beautiful but the staff was terrible. I will never go back here again, nor will I EVER recommend this place for anyone looking to have a good time celebration. Marykate is rude, demanding and her staff sucks with absolutely no personality. They basically take your money and they kick you out. Luckily my sister was surrounded by loved ones to keep her distracted from the bullshit marykate and her staff put our guests through.

Gym in the basement of harro eats building, older equipment but never a crowd or a wait for equipment. They have everything, weights, cardio, pool, sauna, steam room, track, boxing, classes, basketball gym

The harro East has many functions. theres an event Hall that has weddings and Proms and concerts, theres office spaces, there is a spa and there maybe Apartments .Its been around for a long time.

The place is excellent so are the people.
