Friendly, knowledgeable & attentive staff. Great selection of fish and plants, all of which appeared very healthy. They don’t store their Bettas in small cups, they place one Berta in nearly every tank, a much more humane way of keeping those beautiful creatures. Beautiful display tanks and display of everything in the store. All tanks have their separate filtration systems and they have separate quarantine tanks they use before selling them. They have rescued fish in there and all (not for sale I don’t think). A wonderful fish place, we’ll definitely be returning there.

I have struggled with my 10gallon tank for nearly 2 years. My fish do OK, but I really, really wanted a planted tank. Ive watched at least a hundred youtube videos and spent double that on plants and supplements, but my plants always died. I needed a live consult with a person and was SO happy to find RBA. Yesterday Nicole spent time talking through my setup, provided a clear action plan. I took careful notes and spent yesterday afternoon doing a major overhaul including all of her suggestions. I love the way it looks and am optimistic that with RBA as a local resource I can make this work! So glad I found you guys!

Could not have asked for a better experience! We went to Rock Beach Aquatics after deciding to start our new hobby. We’ve been wanting to do this for a while and from the moment we walked into the door we were treated with excellent service. You can’t ask for better than Nicole and Tim. We started with nothing and left with everything we needed, carefully explained, and so much vital information! Having been to at least five stores, I can honestly say the hour drive out to Rochester to visit this store is worth it. Youll be greeted with numerous options, from community fish to angel fish, cichlids, and even a display tank with alligator gar. They also carry a decent amount of plants if youre looking to start a planted aquarium. The tanks are cleaned and maintained very well and the owner keeps up with modern technology to perform automatic water changes. Sometimes its worth paying a couple cents or dollars more for the care and quality of fish that is being sold. Weve bought a oranda goldfish and a couple dozen shrimps from RBA and havent had any loss.I cant recommend this store enough and if youre not looking to buy anything, you can still check out the beautiful display tanks and wont feel pressured to buy anything. Will definitely be coming back more often :)

This is an amazing fish store. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The fish are beautifully cared for and he has a wide selection of great plants as well. We live about an hour and a half away but Rock Beach Aquatics is well worth the drive!

The owner takes great pride in his store. High quality fish, snails, shrimp, turtles, ect. They also have supplies, tanks, ect. Best of all, Tim quarantines and treats fish for common diseases before introducing them to the sale tanks. It wont catch every disease but is so much better and above other stores. So clean inside too! Also, extremely knowledgeable.

Been going to Roc Beach for a year or two and they always have great stuff in stock, there’s always something to look at. All the fish are always super healthy and Tim the owner really knows what he’s doing. The whole staff is always is kind and helpful, it’s my favorite aquarium shop in the area!

I would have to say one of the best fish stores I’ve ever been to I’ve never seen tanks in a store so clean has a great variety of fish the show room is set up very nicely and has some amazing display tanks that make me jealous LOL the store owner is a very knowledgeable and is very happy to answer any questions you may have I talk to him for a little while while I was there and he told me about the amazing process he does at quarantining his fish that he gets from shipment is a quarantine room downstairs where he does not bring any fish from shipment upstairs until after a very rigorous quarantine downstairs where he treats them even if they are not showing signs of sickness if only all pet stores did this instead of just throwing the new shipment into the tanks as soon as they get them we would not have so many problems in this hobby I think other pet stores should take note and learn how to do it correctly thanks rock beach aquatics for such a great shopping experience

This place is amazing. Me and my boyfriend have been going here for some time now and are always so pleased. Tim is the best! If your into keeping fish this is definitely one of the best places to go! They have so much variety and ALL the fish from goldfish to cichlids to catfish and plecos are ALWAYS top quality, I always know if I need great quality fish to go here. Came here for the first time recently and I dont think Ill be going anywhere else for my aquariums, this store is unbeatable. Owner and staff are super helpful and passionate about the hobby. Hey my family and I came in Sunday and were very impressed at the overall look of the establishment. It was clean and the tanks looked great and Tim and his staff were sooo helpful. As I was speaking to Tim I told him I was from Syracuse and worked at the MOST. He informed me that we got our sting rays from him. The rays are so healthy and just a delight to watch. WOW!!! Made my first visit here today and, seriously folks, this is, hands down, the best LFS in the Rochester area. All fish are quarantined before being put out, the selection of aquatic plants as well as fish is HUGE, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the display tanks are breathtaking and numerous, and they carry high quality supplies- including a great selection of rocks and driftwood. Been there a couple times. The place is spotless tanks are prestine fish look so happy its great to see. The best part is the owner is living his dream he is super friendly. I have gotten a whole bunch of fish and they are all doing really well never seen fish get comfortable in a new tank so fast. Excited to visit again and see their new 700 gallon!

I only found out about RBA a few months ago. My first time in the store was eye opening to say the least. It is more than just a store, this place is really a destination. From the massive 700 gallon display tank in the middle of the showroom to the individual sales tanks, it is beautiful. I have been to several local fish stores all over Rochester since getting back in to the hobby about a year ago and RBA is now far and away my favorite place to visit. Tim and his staff are knowledgeable and very kind. The quality of fish is apparent when you start looking around. It is easy to see that Tim and his staff put in a lot of work behind the scenes before the customer even gets to see the fish. This is evident by the lack of dead fish in the tanks. Look around at some of the other stores in the area and you are bound to see a dead fish in a couple tanks. It happens, through no fault of the store or staff. In the handful of times that I have been into RBA, I have yet to see a dead fish. In just a few visits, Tim and his staff have earned a customer for life.

Simply the best fish store in Rochester, regardless of salt or fresh. Ive been a hardcore saltwater reef keeper for about two years, and in that time Ive had a nice, but casual 29 gallon freshwater tank. After discovering RBA, I have become just as passionate about freshwater as I am salt.Purchased a super nice 90 gallon Seapora tank back in December, and it is now heavily planted, with, Id say, 90% of the fish coming from RBA, which includes quite a wide variety of plecos.Lastly, RBA is just nice a place to go hang out for a while. Staff will check in on you every once in a while to see if you need anything, but will never be overbearing.Cant recommend RBA enough.

Went in for the first time today. It was even better than I thought itd be and I had high expectations. I mentioned that we have an educational tank for homeschooling and Tim gave the kids a little lesson about goldfish. We went in just to look but came out with 5 beautiful, healthy fish. Prices for live sales were slightly higher than chain stores but the fish quality and health is WAY better. The prices on all the supplies were very reasonable. Fantastic selection of high-quality foods. So excited to finally have a local freshwater fish store in the area.

RBA Is the best aquarium store that I have been to. The staff is all friendly, Tim, the owner, is very knowledgeable and helpful with any and all questions. Even during the pandemic when Tim is alone working, he is very apologetic about being alone, being that it takes him more time. I would 100% recommend RBA to anyone and everyone!

So let me you that I drove four hours, across the state to go to this aquarium shop, stopped and grabbed some friends along the way and we made our way out to Rochester. COMPLETELY WORTH IT. Rock Beach Aquatics is by far the best freshwater aquarium shop I have ever seen in NY state. 25+ different fish shops between me and Rock Beach and not one could compare to this place. This is the cleanest, healthiest, friendliest shop I have ever had the pleasure of stepping into. Tanks were immaculate, fish were extremely healthy and happy looking, couldnt find one thing wrong. Huge variety fish, shrimp, snails and plants, that not only looked healthy but appeared to be of the highest quality. The Owner and staff were fantastic- knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic about everything. Not condescending or bothered by our questions, they were willing to talk with us extensively. This place also had the single best selection of driftwood and aquarium rock Ive seen anywhere, including online sites. You could definitely spend some money here, but prices were fair and comparable to other stores and sites Ive been in, but with 10xs the quality. This seems like the perfect place for any hobbyist from beginner up through expert level fish keepers, and though its a haul from where Im located in eastern NY, I will gladly give Rock Beach Aquatics my business again.

Let me first state that I was trying to buy fish during the global pandemic, I am in no way an expert when it comes to fish, I wanted to buy my first (semi) exotic fish for a 10 gallon tank, I really wanted pea puffers, I live in the Syracuse area and nobody and I mean NOBODY had pea puffers, I had called everybody until I got to rock beach aquatics, excellent over-the-phone customer service, all other places that I called and said they would call back did not call back, RBA however called almost the minute they opened on Tuesday, when I came to pick them up, most people treat me, a 13 year old a little differently thinking I do not know much about fish but Tim did not care if I was 27, 18, 13, or 4, he spoke to me like an equal, he also helped me out when Tim told me I can put Otocinclus Catfish with them, me knowing not much information about them except the fact they existed said I wanted them, he helped me get all the supplies I needed for them, he was very respectful. And the price, amazing if you think about the extensive quarantine process they put their fish through to make sure I don’t bring home a dying fish, I ended up paying $30 for 3 pea puffers, 2 otocinclus catfish, and one sizable piece of wood with anubas, and I have the ease of mind that my fish won’t die in a day because they were sick, overall, one of the most put together and advanced establishment I’ve ever been too I wish I could give this place 10 stars and I’m glad that I got to experience this. I purchased a couple German blue rams and black neons which are beautifully colored, healthy. Big difference looking at the box store fish. Lots of options for fish. Price reflects the care he puts into them by quarantining fish before putting in display tanks to rid of any potential parasites and illnesses. Definitely coming back once my betta tank is set up for the vibrantly beautiful betta he carries as well.

RBA is a wonderful store. The products have always been of a high quality and the staff, including the owner, have aleays been very helpful and courteous. The quality and accessibility of products are the reason why I drive a little over 2 hours to see them. I have been to almost every fish store from Albany to Rochester, as far south as Binghamton, up into the Old Forge and the Oswego area over the years and I consider RBA to be the best.

I love going here!! Tim is knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions you may have. The store is always clean and the tanks are too. I often ask Tim how he keeps all the tanks so clean when I struggle with one! My son goes here too and has purchased some very unique fish. Some people may complain about higher prices but the safety of your tank is worth it. After I had a well established tank, I decided I wanted to get a couple cheaper fish. My son even warned me not to do it but I did. I eneded up with Ich!!! What a nightmare. All my fish prior to this had been purchased from RBA and I had zero problems. One bad decision cost me all my fish but one and my pleco survived. NEVER AGAIN!!! My tank had been up for close to 2 months so I know it was the pet store puchase that caused it. I live in Fairport but will keep going to Irondequoit to ensure good service, safe fish and safe plants.

Best fish store in the area hands down! Very clean and a massive quarantine room which makes for a happy healthy the owner and his staff are very friendly and very. Highly recommend!

Rock Beach had some of the cleanest tanks in the area. They have a wide variety of fish that have all been quarantined in store, so you know you are getting a healthy fish. Their staff is knowledgeable and willingly help find the right mix for your tanks.

Wow! This store is legit! Clean and the fish....oh the fish just outstanding! I came from Ithaca just to see this store and omg! Was it worth the drive! I had to call cuz I didn’t remember the directions for the root tabs I was given for a plant I bought and the owner and I had a great chat! He was so friendly and was a wealth of info on betta fish. I have been here multiple times and each time I have had great experience. I was in a few times wanting a specific fish that wasn’t for sale but I went in on my birthday and of course had to ask if he would sell him and the owner was nice enough to sell me the fish I had been wanting I won’t spend my money anywhere else awesome owner and staff!!

Simply put this is the greatest aquatic store that I have ever been in.You get used to the chain stores, same stuff all the time. When you walk into Rock Beach you will truly be amazed. Great selection and very knowledgeable staff. Cant wait to go back !!!!!!!

Exceptional water quality leads to healthy fish. Tims mastered that perfectly. His selection of South American/Central American fish is pretty good, very vibrant colors and extremely active which speaks to his knowledge of keeping water levels perfect. However, I am basing my experience based on African Cichlids. So here goes. I have frequented the store over the course of the past 4-5 months and in that time, there hasnt been much of a selection. I have been deep in the African Cichlid (Mbuna, Peacock, Hap) game for well over 7 years and Ive always come to know LFS to carry more of an exotic line of high-quality bred African Cichlids. Here, at RBA, there are none. Im not sure why. Several times I have called and there were orders that were going to be sent out and each time I came back to the store, there were 1-2 tanks stocked with generic, dull-colored peacocks. He did have a tank of Sulphur Heads a few months back that were incredible. He also has (had) a tank of OB Peacocks which can be found anywhere. In my opinion, most of his stock can be found and bought at commercial fish stores. It is to my disappointment being that RBA is one of the only exclusive fish stores around, that the selection of such a beautiful fish is drab at best. Most recently, I believe I walked in and there were some new Mbuna: Red Top Hongi and Jalo Reef. Beautiful Fish. Ive had and bred Hongi to exceptional color. $20-plus PER mbuna even for F1 are ridiculous. We stopped in to check out this highly recommended aquatic shop to hopefully select fish for my wifes aquarium.We were immediately impressed when we walked in.Awesome set up of aquariums,lighting in the store is perfect for show casing what are the cleanest most vibrant tanks and fish weve ever seen in a retail environment!We met Tim the owner who was obviously passionate about what he is providing for the aquatic community.Seeing his quarantine tanks and the work Tim puts into providing healthy fish was really appreciated.We travelled from Orleans County and it was 100% worth the trip!And yes we left with very happy healthy fish:-)

If youre ever wondered what fish heaven looks like... this is it. Just being in this store makes my heart happy. All of the fish are healthy and well cared for, and the owner and staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable! Its also the only place Ive found in Rochester with quality Ranchu Goldfish, as well as a number of other rarer varieties! My new fish is very happy at home.

Been in the hobby for many many years. Finally, Rochester has a top-notch freshwater aquarium store! Talked briefly with the owner, and overheard a couple of things. A good sign you are at good aquarium store is just hearing how important it is to have quality food and plants grown in house. Also, they have blue velvet shrimp and amazing driftwood!Gotta start the new tank up and Ill be back. Great to have a local business to support that clearly takes pride in the hobby. Selection is rather amazing.

This place is next level, the owner is so experienced that he developed his own food and fertilizers.

The first thing I have to say about this store is wow! The owner came right up to us and asked if he could help us with anything. Helpful staff and the tanks here are amazing! I will 10/10 definantly be back for my future tank setups!

Fantastic store! Best place to get freshwater fish in New York!! The tanks were very very clean and the store its self was very neat. The owner Tim was very easy to talk to and answered every question I had. He even went to the extent of explaining his own Quarantine process. I will definitely be making the trip up here from Buffalo alot more often.

Phenomenal service! They were extremely helpful. My tank went from being a mismatched mess, to a balanced, beautiful healthy tank in one visit. They were extremely knowledgeable and did a wonderful job of bouncing from customer to customer answering questions.

Every time my girlfriend and I go in Tim is eager to help and always has great advice. You can see his love and passion for fish in the quality of his fish and tanks largely because he has a quarantine room. Im always excited to go there. Tim was answering heater questions for me through messenger after 9pm last night, that is amazing customer service.

This is the best aquarium store in Western New York. Tim was incredibly nice, helpful, and you could tell he definitely knows what hes talking about. Its like an artisinal aquarium store. The selection and quality are larger and better than other places in Rochester. I cannot stress the quality of his product tho. Go here over amazon. It was cheaper. Support local businesses like this one

I am a newbie to freshwater and have been visiting a lot of fish and aquarium stores in the area. Rock Beach is by far the best! Tim is super helpful and everything looks beautiful and healthy! I have bought several plants and a school of cardinal tetras and they are thriving and happy-thank you, Tim!

The best for anything freshwater. Set up a few tanks with Tims help, everything he sells is top quality. Friendly + knowledgeable staff, I wouldnt go anywhere else.

I may never shop at another place for fish again

In the fishkeeping hobby, its imperative to have a great source of livestock and supplies and this business is one of the best Ive seen in a long time. I rest assured that all fish and plants are in the best of health from the get go, every time I buy a new addition for my tanks. In fact, its because of this business that I feel I can indulge in this hobby as much as I do. The tanks, stands, lighting and other equipment are all some of the best brands in the business and I have been able to build the best tank set ups Ive ever owned in pretty short order, thanks to Rock Beach.

I would highly recommend this shop to anyone, especially anyone just getting started. The reason being that the owner truly cares about what your putting in your tank and has the knowledge to answer any questions. Too many stores are just trying to sell you the product, not here. The shop is well stocked and looks great. The plants I purchased were healthier than any Id seen in the past at other shops and much healthier than the half dead plants Ive bought online in the past. I will be returning in the future.

I had a wonderful time looking at the huge selection of fish today! My mom and I were blown away at how clean and healthy all of the fish looked, employees were very friendly and informative too. Great experience! Definitely going back once I commit to starting a fish tank of my own! Oh and the large fish at the front of the store are happy to greet you, cutest fish ever!

I live a bit aways and finally got the chance to visit this store and boy was I not disappointed. Very clean, modern store, it was immediately evident that the owner takes pride and joy in what he does. I was immediately greeted; if there was a question that I had, there was an answer!After walking around looking at the selections, you can tell that the owner loves what he does and cares for the quality of fish that he is selling. The tanks are very clean, the fish are from a variety of quality breeders (basing this on the very healthy/colorful fish, and being told that he gets them from breeders). While looking around, if you seemed to have particular interest in a fish, the owner would have a backstory on it, whether its from a local breeder, or harder to get... it was evident he wanted fish that was more interesting for people and clearly had passion about what he does.I did not feel like I was being pressured into buying fish, or in a chain store where there are just as many fish as you can jam into a tank with a sole basis of selling them. Obviously a fish store is going to want to sell, but this was different. Very clean, no sickly fish... the selection was just fantastic.I found the quality far superior than the average store Ive been to in the local area and I will be back for any fish needs, that is a fact! If you have not made a trip to this store, make it... its worth it.
