Roanoke Mountain Overlook

Proposed to my girl here, she said yes even though I dropped the ring, so I figure it’s a pretty good spot. The first overlook has a great sunset view and the second view is by the parking lot which has an excellent sunrise view. You can hike up the road even though it has been closed for some time. You can park by the nearby overlook or right by where the road starts.

Quiet this season with the road closed for vehicles

Roanoke Mountain is fantastic. Its a little sketchy heading up and down the road, but the views from the top are worth it. There are a couple trails that I saw, unfortunately the weather kept me at Bay. It is very cool to see the Mill Mountain Star, and the entire region from the overlook. Dont miss a chance to get up there, you wont regret it.

Nice trip to get there if you take the Blueridge Parkway to get to it. Has a place to picnic. Zoo near by

Awesome views of the valley. Road closed to traffic in the winter months. Great place to run.

The road was closed 7/24/19. It might have been from the wicked storms the previous 2 days, but the sign said the road was closed.

Very crowded at peak times, arrive early for sunset viewing. Best view in the city. On clear days, one can see as many as seven or eight rows of mountain ridges in the distance. Full bathrooms. Police patrols, cameras located in the trees around the parking lot make for a safe and family-friendly space, even after the sun goes down.BRING MOSQUITO REPELLENT!

I thought Id see Meek but it was a great visit regardless.
