Wonderful place. Camp hostess was super nice. Only negative aspect is that the bathroom lights were not on during the night making it a bit creepy to go. I spoke with a maintenance person this morning and he said half of the time the lights dont work. The entire building inside and out was dark. Will be going back soon. Hope the lights are on next time.
Beautiful park, old battle site between Estanislao/ Native Americans against U.S. Army.Park is filled with Oak trees, seems like there are also invasive plants that completely cover trees.Park needs some much needed maintenance.I walked through every trail, there was branches that fell on sitting benches. All the signs along the trail have been vandalized. Some info glass signs are filthy and hard to see through.
Had an enjoyable time when i camped at caswell memorial state park. though it was hot, my campground (#35) had plenty of trees which provided shade throughout the campground. for the adventurous types campground #35 also provides direct access to the river, though getting there is steeper than the normal access point to the river. the river itself is awesome! the water is really clean, flows at a nice slow pace which makes it ideal for tubing, and just the right temperature. would recommend bringing water shoes.would definitely camp here again
Awesome place to go and hike. Trails are confusing you can get lost easily. The river view looks nice.
Crazy amount of mosquitoes and bugs but nice river access. Lots of day use because temperatures reach over 100 so it gets pretty packed. The camp sites vary but most are nice and spread apart from one another. Smack dab in the middle of nowhere in farmland. It offers nice walking paths but nothing to extensive.
This park has some really aggressive mosquitoes that leave super-itchy bites. They need to find a way to eliminate them or reduce their numbers. I went out around noon and got completely bit up. I would recommended wearing long sleeves. Other than that, I think it’s a nice park.
The only Riparian oak forest in this area. Has a beach along the Stanislaus River. Camping grounds, nice bathrooms, and nice trails in the oak forest. Watch out for mosquitoes and poison oak...
I liked this campsite.. very private and shaded. Close by river for water activities..
Went and drove our sons remote control car, lots of parking and benches spaced out . Beautiful water view with 3 benches by it . A big climbable tree . Bathrooms are open and looked pretty clean . Great place to spend time w nature
I loved the camping site even though it was not as secluded as I thought It might be. We were in site 13 with less than a 5 min walk to the beach or the restrooms. Beautiful place, nice rangers on site. Park staff were very pleasant, knowledgeable, and ready to help.
What I consider my backyard, this state park is intimate with plenty of river beaches trails and camping sites. The camp host will help you if people are loud late at night and its fun to bring rafts from salmon bend beach to willow beach. Careful not to use pool floaties, get the river rafts as theres plenty of sticks and trees in the water. Dog friendly park but many no dog signs. The hidden beach was dog friendly except for the resident ducks. They were mean kind of. I caught a fish but it was small. The water is swift but shallow so not many deep holes but they responded well to nightcrawlers.
I found it to be comfortable, nice shady spots to camp. Good places to swim n cool down for young n old. Plus the camp host was pleasant n helpful. Its worth day use also.
Great place to take the family. Especially for little ones cause there are a lot of shallow areas. Its a nice to just float down the river with the current. Right next to the campsite there is a beach separate from the day use beach. If you decide to float you get out at the day use beach and walk back to the campgrounds. Day use beach was really nice too there are quite a few logs in the river you can sit on. Not alot of shade so bring your own. :)The kids had alot of fun and there werent a ton of people, so social distancing was fairly easy. Of course we went during the week to avoid any crowds the weekend may be a different story. There was no fire wood when we went but there were some homes before you arrived that said they sold fire wood. You may want to check those out if you want to make a fire. Also there are always mosquitos, so be prepered. We stayed at #17, had good shade and bushes to block out lights at night.
Not great for hiking, but if you love fishing and playing with water, this is the place. A great place for kids.
Great place to camp clean environment and great beach access
$12 to park, dogs not allowed on the trails, no trail markers or maps, spiders covering everything, only 5 picnic tables and did I mention $12 TO PARK??! The only upside were the wild grapes growing along the trail. They were yummy.
We had a REALLY good time. We came from out of town to swim but then we found out we couldnt take our dog swimming. It would be good to take your dog to the beach, even if on a leash. Would have given 5 stars if we could have taken our dog.
This location was hot during the day but the river was cool. The campsites are fairly private due to the tree coverage and our sites had full shade. Not firewood sold on site but there is a place about a half mile out that sold bundles.
This park looks more like a wild vineyard than a riparian forest.
Worst experience ever at a state park. I’ve been to 38 states And countless parks. This makes #1 of never wanting to go again. Scenery is amazing. But staff was harassing us every half hour. Counting heads, cars, dogs, walking to bathroom. Ruined my friend’s daughter birthday.
Fun for entire family specially during quarantine. Nice to be outdoors go for a walk or play in the water
I enjoy hiking the trails in this park in the winter, when many of the leaves on the trees have fallen, and the the shapes of the branches can be seen against the sky and the individuality of each tree is revealed, and especially at dusk, when an ancient mystical feeling decends upon all natural areas. I enjoy the odors of the decaying leaves while exploring the trails, and the cold breezes blowing over the river, and bumping into the occasional streams caused by the river overflow. This park can be like a cathedral when you need time to yourself or to just enjoy nature at its simple best.
Gorgeous scenery and not too far to drive from home..total win!
I love this place because there is a river and its cool and entertaining. There is also a camping site where you can park your car infront of your tent! But sometimes there is not enough grills...
We have been coming here for about 5 years now. Its a lot of fun to float down the river and chill at the nice campsites!
Beautiful place for family and friends campinggrounds.
We had so much fun! Water was nice, shallow areas for the kids. I love the outdoors!
Do not come without bug spray. The amount of mosquitoes was unreal, but beautiful scenery.
Best time ever. Just go early for a great spot!
This was a very nice place to cool off for everyone. I would highly recommend this place to any family
It was really fun lots of trees and shade and the river was so refreshing! It was just way too hot!
Relaxing place for camping, fishing, and river fun. Beautiful nature, listen for the tree crickets at night.
So peaceful during the week. Bring bug spray if walking on Trails and umbrella if sitting by water. Perfect place for the family
Use to go here when I was a kid. Now I take my son here. Still a decent place to go camping and chill for few days or day. Water moves swift so be careful!
It was a good hike but bring bug spray and water.
Beautiful place to visit. However I’m giving it 3 stars because of the red ants and mosquitoes. My family got eaten alive and we had mosquito repellent. There were soo many red ants that if you stood still you’d have them running all over your feet.
Bathrooms sucked but otherwise the vibes were great the river was fun and the camping was unbelievable
It was nice and some shady areas. But too shallow cant really swim.but water was clear and cool
This was my first time going and had 3 little kids with me. The river was really low that it was a great experience and the kids could walk across to the other side.
The park was nice but the bathrooms and showers were disgusting, even after cleaned. Not ONE of the state employees were wearing masks....which is a STATE WIDE MANDATEWe are in a pandemic and this is completely unacceptable.
Definitely a place to camp. Bring bug spray as you will need it for a few spots hiking. Other then that we will be coming back
I went there a couple times I love it there in waters nice and cool shallow but there is marrying a whole lot of mosquitoes
Used to love camping here. Went to the day use area last week. Mosquitoes attacked us as soon as we exited the car. It wasnt late either...about 1:00pm.
Very nice hiking trail. Bring bug spray and long sleeve shirt and pants. There are many mosquitos.
A rare nature preserve, to remind us what we have lost.
The campsites were not really clean, picnic tables were stained and the restrooms lacked hand soap. Also, the coin-operated showers stole our coins, so we had to add more money to turn them on.
Lovely place for a weekend. Very quiet. The park aids are very friendly
Nice park... river is very shallow good for young kids
Just what we needed. 108 degrees today
Love this place. Walking the trails is magical and gives a good feel of what the valley used to be like.
Neighbors were super loud and at midnight would constantly start their car and drive around whilst their dogs were barking. Their kids were screaming even after the 10:00 quiet time.
This is my favorite place for camping. Its super conveniently located just an hour drive away. The camp sites are big, clean, and surrounded with trees or grass. Each site is unique from the next, which makes it feel special. There is a beautiful little river that is just magical to float down on a nice hot summer day. The bathrooms are relatively clean for a camp ground. I love this place. Its really perfect for the whole family.
Great Peaceful Place To Enjoy The Nature With Friends And Family! Go For A Walk, Go Swim, Bbq Up And Relax
Its nice love the outdoors & its quite
This park is sooo pretty and relaxing. It has a swimming area which is nice and sunny or a more shady side to it. I am pretty sure that you can technically get into the water from wherever.
Very nice to go hang out at.
It was great, just bring bug spray.
Nice place very relaxingCan take a hike on the trail around the lake
Its a nice place to go swimming and to have a picnic.
Alota fun but bring squito repellent
Great place to swim and tan
This was listed as dog friendly. it is not. dogs at campsites only
Beautiful place. Great stay.
A nice walk, watch out for itchy plants and bring bug spray for mosquitos. Quiet and relaxing.
When camping it is very important to check in with the camp host or kiosk staff even if you have a reservation. People sometimes occupy sites already reserved and then have to move. No one knew who the camper was that occupied his site without checking in and then left it unattended to visit family. The park is required to keep a log of each campsite: occupant name, all vehicle license plate numbers, and in and out dates. Each vehicle is required to display a yellow camping tag issued by the staff. All this is to help keep the campers safe and happy during their stay and to help the staff manage the campground that often has hundreds of campers each weekend during the summer.
A great place to visit! For walk, picnic parties, swimming, camping and other things.
Very very beautifulA lot of tables to prepare your foodVery clean
Always a great trail walk, just avoid poison oak. Was disappointed this time to see the no fishing until further notice sign at entry. Kids had been looking forward to throwing out a line, and there was no notice on the website, FB, or anywhere else I could see. There are always homeless campers in the campground, but theyre usually respectful and clean up after themselves.
Nice little place to hike and nice shallow river with no high current execellent for the kids.
Great place to visit and so close. The gates are open all the time and you can just pay at the gate either with cash or check and drop off at the Campground host. Some of the campsites are so close to the river you can literally camp with the river out of your tent window.
A beautiful gem of the Central Valley. Surprised at how few campers there were late into this WARM October. Also, NO kayakers! Shame because the water is mellow and MOVING!
Great place my kid loved it
This park is a beautiful unexpected surprise in the Central Valley. Lots of trees and a beautiful sandy beach at the river that invites to swimming and floating down. The park seems not on top of the list from the State in terms of maintenance. Some of the sites are just a bit in need of debris cleanup and weed control. Bathroom on our visit also needed some cleaning.Overall our stay was very pleasant with a quiet night and a beautiful swim in the river.
Its a great shaded park. They allow you to make your own private event as you wish . Bring your mosquito repellent!
We went in 2014 and 2019...it has declined! We went back because we really had a good time in 2014, I regret going back July 2019. Its affordable camping, an ok trail to walk and you can get some nice nature pics
Nice park lots of tables and bbq grills but watch out for the mosquitoes got bit all over.
Beautiful park. Awesomely clean restrooms.
Awesome they are open for camping as well!!!
Beware! The reservation number you call when booking is not the state park system. The information they give you is in accurate and fast.6 nights after arriving at the park I was told that I was not allowed to have three vehicles ( a car, trailer and tow vehicle) at my campsite. Despite clearly asking about this before booking. State park office or Roberts and informed us that we are not allowed three vehicles on our spot despite what the website says. Also despite us paying the campground host us an additional $60 for our third vehicle. We were issued a $71 fine for having the vehicles On our site we told them we would have when we booked. He then informed me that I can illegally parked my vehicle off of my campsite where the campground hostess told me I could not to avoid a ticket the next day!?!?!! Is anyone else confused!?!?! Maybe they will take the $71 and hire someone to Emptied the overflowing trash cans on every beach. I fix the three broken showers in our area. We will not be coming here again.
Beach, river, beautiful historical place, with trails, lots of old trees n growth
Great dry camping only. Bring big spray
This place is beautiful....nice and clean
Better than I thought
Came here for the first time with my girlfriend Kayla and had a great time
1.5 hours waiting and no parking...no staff to let you know anything...mwe went back home.
The labor day weekend crowd of people were heavy party people so it hard to be with small children when the crowd is smoking and drinking and playing very very r rated music had to leave
Our favorite get away when we need that get away!
GOOD EXPERIENCE
Winding river to float down, no poison oak to be seen, some beautiful, shaded campsites. Staff were super helpful and nice. Many friendly Spanish speaking campers.
Park was extremely crowded yesterday with lots of mariachi music blasting and people drinking beer. Besides that it was pretty and the water was nice. We saw cows come down to the river to drink. My 8yo whos a good swimmer was able to fight the current. Dont bother coming on the weekend or holidays.
The only bummer is that you cant bring your dog on the beach or in the river
Me and my lady was going camping for the weekend! was very bad up keeping weeds.. were as high as 3 and 1/2 to 4 feet high! which of course brought tons of bugs and insects.. so we left and went somewhere else! and the past we had a great time there.. but the up keeping due to budget cost ..Im assuming! it is awful hope they get it together can be a beautiful place was in the past!
Love this place. Beautiful
Nice people. Rude maintenance team tho.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE . I ended up with at least 30 mosquito bites and I wasn’t even there for ten mins !! Huge bug issues
First here & it was beautiful & relaxing!
Beautiful park...but.... There are tons of cows right across the river that mooo all day and night. It sounds like they are in the next campsite! Bring lots of bug spray too.. the cows attract alot of biting flies and mosquitoes. We got bit really bad! And the smell of cow manure wafts through the campsites. If they moved those cows somewhere else this place would be perfect.Clean bathrooms. Nice campsites, too. Just choose wisely who you camp next to. Some tweekers were in the site next to us and worked on their motorhome all night. But aside from all that, we enjoyed our stay.
There is a lake and hiking spots. You can BBQ. There is a lot of mosquitoes.
Perfect Place to be tech free. The water is not deep for kids the only thing parents have to worry about is the current. 10 bucks for a full day. Nice trails to walk around, seeing cows, feral cats, hearing the birds, etc. You can even cook food and bring your pets.
