This place is great! They have recently renovated and are continuing to update the place. You can have a beer and watch some great improv. The place is cozy, maybe 100 seats which means every seat is close to the stage and the show (which usually utilizes audience participation) is up close and personal. The players rotate so all shows are different. It is one of the best entertainment values in RVA! (If thats not enough, they also have a nonprofit arm of the business that has sensory friendly shows and they join forces with myriad local nonprofits to help those in need.)

After finding this place online, I decided it would be a fun thing to do on the last day of our trip as a family. We arrived early, thinking it was going to be super busy, and then quickly discovered that the building was not a large, busy theatre. Its a small building in a strip mall. There were less than 40 people at the show, but it was a great time for everyone. The show was an improv competition between two teams. They played improv games based on audience member suggestions. The show was filled with lots of variety in humor, so its great for all ages. I would recommend eating dinner beforehand, as they only sell small snacks and beverages like chips and candy bars. Its an inexpensive way to get a good laugh. Would recommend!

This was our first visit, and were already planning to go back next weekend! Im so grateful our friends invited us to this PERFECT evening of family fun. We all laughed until our cheeks hurt. Theres nothing else like it in Richmond, a must-do! A few snacks and drinks (including wine and beer) are available, but do like we did and grab dinner beforehand and make an evening of it!

A hidden gem in the Richmond area, Comedy Sportz delivers up improv comedy for everyone on Fridays and Saturdays. There is a loose theme of two sports teams of 4 comedians per team, monitored by a ref to keep things clean and without groaner jokes, and you serve as a Loyal Fan. If you come with creativity and adventure, you can even yell out suggestions for the comedians to use within skits. If you bring kids, be sure to consider getting them Lights of Justice, so they can vote extra points for the team they think is funniest. With a recent update to the theater, they now serve beer, wine, and cider, and they continue to have a variety of candy and snacks for sale. The theater even has a later Saturday night show for adults where suggestions of ANY kind could be pulled out of the Solo Cup. CSZ is a great and affordable entertainment option for a group, and something everyone should try out at least once. It is good to laugh!

Excellent for a date night. For the price, you absolutely will not find the entertainment value anywhere else in Richmond. If youve ever watched Whose Line is it Anyway, youve got the basic idea. Audience participation is a must (you likely WILL be involved, whether you planned on it or not) as votes are taken for the teams after each round. If you havent been, correct this deficiency immediately.

Wonderful theater and improv! The cast and hosts were beyond friendly, felt like being welcomed into a friends home rather then a comedy venue. If you like improv, akin to Second City, or Whos Line, you will not be disappointed! Guest Andy from the Quad Cities CSz was amazing!

Had a wonderful time at an intro to Improv free session on last night. Dave was a great instructor and quickly introduced us newbies to the benefits and underlying concepts of improv. I quickly signed up for the Improv 101 course and am very excited to get out of my comfort zone and have permission to have fun and support those around me.

ComedySportz allows the performers to embrace the essence of having fun in the moment. No two performances are the same because of changes in the performers, the games played, and so much more. That being said, its unreasonable to critique the specific content of each performance. Overall, the structure of the performances provide a clear understanding of the barrage of games played and just enough time for you to catch your breath from laughs in-between games.

My wife and I went on a date on 10/3/14. The theater has a very casual atmosphere. There is no kitchen, and nothing served except for a small snack bar with soda, water, chips, candy, etc. The staff were genuinely friendly. The seating far outstripped attendance that evening- but a staff member did report that their events sell out as well. The actual comedy was very reminiscent of Whose line is it anyway? The comedians were on two competing teams, however the winning seemed secondary to the entertainment. My wife and I laughed quite a bit, especially during a sketch when one comedian guessed correctly from clues that he was kayaking on a zebra in a body of water that was actually blood. His reaction was hysterical! The referee was in charge of keeping time for the sketches, getting audience input for concepts to incorporate in the sketch, and calling fouls. I was apprehensive at first that the theater had a policy of avoiding crude, obscene, or foul comedy- I was worried that it might be wholesome in a way that ends up boring. Fortunately it was not at all saccharine. The lack of adult humor was not missed in the frenetic energy and hilarious acting. I would suggest very young children might not enjoy it was much as adults. My wife and I easily concluded that we would return. The staff there strongly supported audience engagement, so much so that in addition to the team scores they awarded me a point for the suggestion of a luchador in one sketch. The announcer then dutifully called the team scores, followed by mine for the remainder of the evening. The night concluded with one team winning, and then as we walked out the door all the nights players gave us high fives. Very positive experience.

I laughed so much that I developed a headache! The players were funny and talented. Their gift and skill of improvisation was remarkable. I was amazed by the timing and the wittiness of the comedians! My wife and I were really impressed by the bubbly high energy youthfulness of Sarah Murphy, the commanding captivating improvisation skill of Micah Edwards, and the obvious passion of Scott Ingwersen. The referee Susan Scovill did a great job keeping the audience attentive and involved. Two thumbs up for Comedy Sportz! I am really feeling the “Loyal Fan” title we were given at the show last night. We will even give a pass to the comedian who had to ask for clarification on who Harriet Tubman was in history, and only charge it to her head and not her heart because I am so impressed with what all the comedians are capable of doing without preparation of the audience’s suggestions. It was honestly one of the best nights I had. Clean genuine fun!!

We went there during our Richmond, VA vacation. Wife found them on the internet and thought it would be a great place for the whole family. The show was halloween themed. The performances were great, and definitely family friendly. Dont let that fool you, though as the entire performance was fantastic and funny. There must be something about participating in the show that just elevates the fun factor. My wife even volunteered to help with one of the improv games and did AWESOME! She was so good that the owner, and all the players from both teams wanted her to join the adult workshop and be a player there! Too bad we live in Columbus, OH -- she would have been great there! We need to find some backers and start a ComedySportz here!Ticket prices were reasonable and the food good.

I found the comedy childish (not in a good way). The performers did a skit where they spat water all over each other and the floor which was not funny at all. The moderator was gushingly enthusiastic but not at all engaging. Sorry, I really wanted to like this, but I left at intermission.
