I am a student at VCU and the store posted a specific expensive access code that I was required to buy for one of my classes. When I learned from my professor that I did not need the $85 access code, the store refused to refund me or give me any store credit. So I wasted $85 and now have to spend another $40 to get the correct book because the store posted the wrong information.
Excellent selection of books. Never left empty handed.
The students working at this B&N are always helpful, knowledgeable, & friendly. The only thing keeping this from a 5-star rating are the high prices for VCU-themed merchandise. Students (& their parents) already struggle to afford the costs of college, so it would be nice if the official bookstore of their school made it more affordable for students to show their school pride. Other than that, this is a nice, inviting store, study space, & good place to grab a coffee & catch up w/friends or read a book.
This place is so nice to buy a book and drink a coffee.
Great customer service, the prices for the VCU apparel are outrageous.
Very good Starbucks with additional drinks & munchies. Quiet place to read or study. Great magazine selection!
Pleasant people and the store was very clean. If you are a VCU fan, there is a lot of cool stuff their. I personally was looking for some yellow polos, and they had a bunch. This is a great place to stop on your trip to the city. Go Rams! Go Barnes & Noble!
Its clean easily found and the Starbucks is nice
Wonderful store. Staff is friendly, managers are amazing, cafe good is good. All-around great store. The general manager is especially nice and works hard.
Clean, quiet, friendly, but not enough charging outlets. I would recommend BARNES AND NOBLE to anyone
Wanted to rent, rented a book after the two week period (so after add drop already happened) decided that I would rather have an Ebook due to convenience and to also buy the other material with it as a bundle.... I was told that because I rented the book after the two week add drop period I was stuck with it. I have only had it two days. Not to mention was gouged price wise for it. Overall i go to vcu, never used this place. Now I see why people tell you to avoid it. I would recommend the same to anyone. Just a lousy store looking to take your money with no customer service. I recommend going with VBC just down the street, at least they can work with you and are much more personal and polite.
Solid but all the text books are overpriced. Go to VBC or Bookholders.
Hay guys! Harrison here. Just a heads up that yo boi be getting mad roblox points all night. It’s epic! Anyway. Gave a good one. Also books or dumb I don’t read them. Also I don’t like college it’s stupid, and my shoe keeps coming untied whenever I walk out of roads.
This location is known to have books the regular stores do not carry. To elaborate, it has a lot of university press publications by Duke, NYU, and others.
Kind staff but they tried to sell this textbook to me for a ton of money, but when I went to price match the book I found it on a B&N Website for $30 less! Were broke college kids! What are they trying to do to us?? Also, one time I returned apparel and got 70 dollars on a gift card and a receipt for the gift card. When I tried to use it for an online order to ship it as a gift I entered the gift card no. as well as my debit card info to pay the difference which would have been $5.00 out of roughly $55.00 as I had already used roughly $20 dollars at another time. When I placed my order it told me that it was confirmed, so I tossed the gift card, but days later, I looked at my account and realized the whole order was charged to my debit card, but B&N never notified me, so when I called the store, they told me that even with a receipt for the gift card, there was nothing they could do. So $50 down the drain....
All the textbooks at Barnes and Noble are overpriced (Bookholder and Virginia Book Company are better bets) and when you order a used textbook for say, $60, if they dont actually have one, theyll just send you a new copy and charge you 100+ depending on the book. They do seem to have a decent selection of books, some art supplies, and VCU merch, but all of these can be found cheaper at a different store within walking distance.
I went in to buy a crappy $14 mouse . When I checked out, cashier woman student didnt know difference between$4 to $1 in change!!! And they couldnt even open the register without another sale. AND the manager wasnt even in the building to override the system !!! So I had to buy cheapest object which was around $2 or wait 30+ mins for manager ! So I spent entire $20 with tax for a mouse a tic taxs . Hate this store. They gave me the wrong amount of change and didnt even try to fix the problem. Never shopping here again. They should be ashamed in customer service and reliability. They represent VCU which reflects campus overall
Text book clerk was pretty arrogant. I had a question about a book I bought and a previously clerk said it was eligible for return. I was pretty much shooed away without him even looking into it.
Its not your typical BN, but its more cater towards the university. However, very nice staff. They are always professional.
Always very clean and smells pretty good because of the Starbucks that resides in its heart. Employees are very kind souls who usually look you in the eye and are very good at pretending to care about the stupid thing you are asking for.
I was happy to get what I wanted from this location and even a lanyard for my upcoming year at vcu. However, I paid for it and when i checked the bag at home i guess the cashier didn’t put the lanyard in. I was pretty disappointed ://
Clean, well lit, and staffed by friendly people. The study area/coffee shop has plenty of places to sit and work, and there is a good selection of snacks, candies, and chocolates to munch on.
Pricey, but clean and organized. Customer service is adequate. Lots of apparel to choose from.
The building is very nice and air conditioned. There is also a coffee shop inside. However, the books are overpriced.
This Barnes & Noble has a great feel to it, but the selection is slightly lacking. Barring some best sellers, the store mostly only has books published 3+ years ago, and each section is limited to mostly just greatest hits and best sellers of the genre. It also is mostly devoted to overpriced VCU merchandise as well as textbooks. The staff are amazingly helpful however, and make up for almost all of the flaws for a student, but for anyone who is not a student of VCU, this B&N is definitely lacking compared to others in the chain.
Obviously textbooks are insanely expensive(dont buy them here), but for everything else you would need from a barnes and noble, its great. There is a starbucks in here, but for VCU students, this starbucks does not accept dining dollars/ram bucks.
It is recommended as VCUs bookstore but I have had problems with getting books for three out of four classes. Im not impressed.
Good place to chill out for a few minutes. Overall, though, pretty overpriced.
Has cafe and good place to study or hang out with friends
Good selection of history books (for a campus store)
Great customer service and very helpful staff.
Like every other Barnes and Nobles out there. Nothing special
Harry, Assistant GM is AWESOME and his staff.
Do not try an order your VCU basketball gear from their site. I have tried to order 3 different shirts only to receive an email saying We might get it again but were not sure and if it were to come in it might be 6 weeks. Make it not available on the site? Pitiful service.
In addition to the expected textbooks and supplies, this location carries a good selection of general reading material (fiction and non) and surprisingly good selection of childrens books
Great store. Good parking
Great customer service, with a friendly atmosphere!
About a fifth the size of a normal B&N - half the building is VCUs bookstore, which is more sweatshirts and paraphernalia than books. You cant use a B&N gift card because its not technically a Barnes and Noble.
Textbooks are expensive and so are VCU gear. But the cafe and study area is nice
Cool bookstore
Sometimes it just be like that, and be like that it do.
Do the textbooks really need to be that pricey!? The idea of college is to grow up and not depend on parents as much. Many students lack parental assistance and have to decide to buy books rather than groceries. This company should renegotiate with the vendors.
Great service!
Super helpful staff
Everyone was very pleasant!
Great
A complete rip-off for textbooks
Wide variety of items but severely over priced.
So many things to learn
Books and much more!!!
My go to for books
Usually have everything I need. Often pretty quiet except during the start of school rush.
Busy store catering to the VCU crowd, free WI FI.
Good VCU gear
Cant even pay textbooks using financial aid before the fall season class starts.
Selection
Good
Cant use your Starbucks card at the Starbucks Cafe.. whats up with that?
Easy to see...apart of Barnes and Noble
Wonderful staff very clean and professional
Polite and clean
